I'd need some advice. I'm planning to buy a 40'' or 42'' TV. My budget is max RM 5000.
I went today in 2 different Sen shopd in Sunway but they didn't seem to really know what they were talking about. They were just advising the TVs that were closer to my max budget without giving me any good reason to choose this one over a cheaper one. My main use would be watching Astro and DVDs (might get a Blue-Ray player later). So now I'm quite confused. 1 of the shop told me Astro looks better on a Plasma TV (which was 1024x768) rather than LCD TV (which was 1366x768) (and they were playing Astro on both, and it seemed to be true. The plasma TV was actually better at hiding the bad quality of Astro ... the image looked smoother So what would be the best ? I would think that I should take the better resolution given by LCDs, but if ithe image looks worse when watching Astro, I'd rather get a Plasma ... I've read the last few pages of this thread and it seems people tend to like the Panasonic PV80H, is it a good buy ? Would it be better to watch Astro/DVDs compared to the Samsung 40'' LCD TV LA40A450 ? What about for Blue-ray movies ? thanks for your advises This post has been edited by r4st4m4n: Jun 8 2008, 10:35 PM |

QUOTE(wcyly @ Jun 6 2008, 02:40 PM) For those who noticed judder on moving pictures on the Panasonic PV80, here's a repeat of a post I made on another forum a short while back: alert, pionner promoter wearing harvey uniform spotted again in disguise.... lol".... Just came back from Harvey Norman @ the Curve. The chap who helped me test extensively was named Ronnie. Quite a knowledgeable chap. Spent a good deal of time comparing the Samsung vs Panasonic Pv70 vs the Pioneer Kuro for displaying moving pictures, using pirated dvd as source. I have to say that the worst of the lot is the Panasonic. The Samsung and Pioneer is pretty much equal. Apparently the Pioneer and Samsung motion processing algorithm is as good as the one used by high end philips, grundig, B&O (which I tested some 6 months ago). Unfortunately Panasonic PV70 & the new PV80 do not have this technology. I was quite certain of buying the new Panasonic PV80 until I did this comparison. Now, have to strike Panasonic off my list. If you are not sure what i mean, just go there and ask to test a few dvds for motion, the one easiest to see is Toy Story 2, chapter 9 I think where the camera pans right to left on a particular image. The Panasonic judders, whilst the Samsung and Pioneer (in smooth Cinema mode) will render the movement a lot smoother." End of quote. As an update, samsung has just released the successor to the PS42Q91H. The new plasma is called PS42A450P1. PS42A450P1 is supposed to be an improvement over the outgoing model and is the first in the world to support 3D playback! Imagine 3D pictures and 3D gaming. Going to check it out soon and I may just go buy one..... BTW did ronnie test the same toy story 2 for u on the pv80? or u just assuming that just because pv70 dont hav, so be with pv80? do notice there was once panny promoter in "uniform disguise" was not available in harvey norman, roughly before the launching of pv80, around early of this year while i found the most the pv70 setting was in upside down, same goes to harvey norman pavilion, still i ll get toy story 2 ahem dvd to test on my pv70 and pv80 on site, and any chance new sammy plasma - it seem to be interesting, will take snapshot and post here soon..... QUOTE(adrian0229 @ Jun 8 2008, 12:29 PM) announced that it gonna to drop to rm2999 soon and notice someone starting to sell it at that price...QUOTE(r4st4m4n @ Jun 8 2008, 09:32 PM) I'd need some advice. My budget is max RM 5000. the 300+ different pixels wont make so big different espcially when u sit from ur sofa to the tv.....I went today in 2 different Sen shopd in Sunway but they didn't seem to really know what they were talking about. The LG 42" PG60 ie 42PG60UR can be as low as RM3800 if you shop around. But then, Panasonic PV80 is not a bad choice if you are sort of person who don't like to play around with extra settings.
QUOTE(imr4n @ May 4 2008, 12:23 AM) LG PG60 is RM4899 with divx playable via usb Panny PV80 is around RM45XX with jpg playable via sdhc unless forumers here can offer cheaper price for that LG PG60 it's better to get panny and if wanna play divx get a dvd player with that capability costing a couple of hundred ringgit only, still total cheaper Added on June 9, 2008, 6:14 pmLG PG60 comes in in42" and 50". The quality is almost similar to Pana PV80 with PV80 has slightly better black (you really gotta see it yourself. Quite difficult to compare). QUOTE(calvin_t @ May 6 2008, 09:29 PM) bro... what is the panel size for the LG PG60? Only RM4899? What's your opinion for LG? Don't know what's the quality This post has been edited by aiz1j: Jun 9 2008, 06:14 PM |

I have search the post but couldnt find any disccussion on this model. Any input will be appreciated Sounds like a good price. Legend was selling the ps42q91 for RM4,800 cheapest only a month ago, before the release of the new model ps42a450p1.I am assuming the best denki unit is a new unit and not the display unit. Maybe you should call up legend and ask if they still sell the ps42q91 and how much. This post has been edited by wcyly: Jun 10 2008, 01:42 PM |

its last year model but offer less features than the latest model . color saturation is good but lack depth in black level.comparatively , its better than the PV 70 but not the Pv 80.
this latest plasma from samsung , feature rich in its own class is worth looking at and retail at RM 4,999 with free gift at current promotion . if you bargain hard i'm sure will be able to get some discount . i target this model when price drops further or just wait for PV 90 which probably will be release end of this year . between plasma and lcd , i will choose plasma becoz of better color presentation and thus better PQ not to mention it looks better on our analogue Ass-tro |

hmmmm 4999 for the ps42a450p1 with free gift. I Manage to get 1+4 years warrant on the ps42q1. thats about all the discount they were willing to give. I think if the different is about 1k for the new model, I might as well just get the latest model.

I would be slightly cautious to purchase Plasmas from Samsung and LG. Not to be biased, but they are no longer mainstream plasma manufacturers and as such are not likely to invest much into Plasma tech. Perhaps the only 'mainstream' plasma guys left are Panasonic and Pioneer. Even Hitachi is pretty much out of it and the latest hitachis are pretty crap (personal opinion).
Having said that, this is just my personal opinion. You should try to check out some professional reviews for confirmation on specific models (not on brand). |

You should try to check out some professional reviews for confirmation on specific models (not on brand). main plasma tv players are panasonic and pioneer in the future. if not mistaken, hitachi is seeking partnership with panasonic. another fact is that pioneer will buy the plasma panel from panasonic end of this year onwards. so, the king of plasma tv manufacturer = Panasonic? |
