can get rid of the black strips by using the aspect button. Normally zoom 1 I think. The picture will be slightly taller. Best to use this for the 1st 200hrs usage or so to avoid burn in due to the black bars. These black bars area causes the phosphor to not burn evenly.

thanks manchild tried that but the picture quality suffers a bit.
azbro why do you say 42" not big enuf ? its the aspect ratio/how the film was mastered so even if i have a 50" the 2 black strips will still appear, no?

the first 100, preferably 200 hrs , view all movies on full screen . dont view with 4:3 or 16.9 aspect . zoom the screen to full size. don't view still photos for too long . and switch channel , if you watch astro tv with channel logo on top corners for too long but i felt 2 to 3 hrs continuous should be ok

u are right. It doesn't matter if the TV is 42 or 50 inches, it is how the film was mastered. Black bars will still appear on 50 inch sets.

Here is some recommendations, http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Panasonic-TH42PX80/Settings/
Although in the end it should be something that you are comfortable with and not what the "experts" say so.

Yahlor...even 50" will have the black strips...so better have a 50inch than 42inch with blackstrips smile.gif

But 50" still expensive.

The black bars that you see is due to the native ratio of the movie itself. 16:9 or known as HDTV format is only a part of the 'widescreen' format. There is another ratio; 2.35:1. On 16:9 panel, you will see black bars on top and bottom.

sifus i would appreciate some suggestions ..thinking of getting a 32 tmw just for ps3

i've narrowed it down to the below :

1) Samsung LA32A450
2) Toshiba 32A3V500E
3) Sharp LC32A53M
4) Sony KLV-32v300

any comments? samsung still having QA issue ? sony is just a bit over priced sad.gif .. new models frm other brand looks tempting
