Hehe, if this Jason fella really need to send this kind big chunks, he will not being rude and simply say: "Maxis Broadband is not for you heavy duty uses....so get the hell outta the network." Because 20GB is not even enuff for a light user, it's only ~682MB/day. As you said, it's the multimedia age and sites getting heavier, 20GB runs out very fast.
All of us are here in this thread because we are having a common enemy, and not seeing each other as enemy or flaming each other.
To Jason36, you are welcome to join us for fighting against this 20GB limitation and their shitty supports. Shit happens, you will nvr know when you need to dl something big from your client or company via the internet, and found out speed being capped at 256kbps.
To butthead, you constant cares and contributions on this thread are very much appreciated, thank you.
To other forumers, please post your precious opinion here. We are not here for rants, we are here to complain! Let's find out a common solution and move towards it.
anyways your calc of 682MB per day is sort of wrong.. they dun stop our connection once we reach 20GBs... the speed is just capped... and 20GBs over 20 working days is about 1GB per day... who receives e-mails and surf net up to 1GB a day... i presume Jason36 is a mobile user who requires the internet on the go type... so i think 20GBs is just right on the edge for him if he is a heavy user (not in the downloading sense)...
i DLed like 55GBs if i did not count wrongly last month with the capping kicked in (about 50 to 60GBs down before capping)... so i think my strategy from now onwards is to surf less during the 1st 20GBs... let my downloads run at as max as possible speed up to 20GBs... i figure at my current speed of about just tipping 5GBs per day.. it should reach in just a bit over 4 days time... so then i can do watever i want then since the speed already sucked.. i can just stop my downloads to browse net and turn it back on again when i don't... not cool... definitely not....
do PM me if you need the mail as proof... i can supply you with the mail from maxis if you feel the need to...
i attach the throughput in text file of my other download PCs network adapter along with this post... hope it helps you guys fight for wat you want...
do ignore the uploaded throughput however... those numbers are not accurate because i transfer the files back to my other pc hence the high upload throughput... the download can minus about close to 50mB or 100mB because during the uploads there are some data packets flowing through both my PCs... you can notice i started since 15th which is 1 day after i know about the capping... and the notice the trend that it suddenly spiked up from 29th of this month... that is when the invoice/bill came in for march and the capping is off...i'll post again in a few days time to see if they really capped us @ 20GBs... if it is less... then there is one more the reason for us to screw them...personally i posed this as oppposed to wat bytefreezer recommended because this shows my throughput in numbers rather than graph form... i have the speed graph too but it is in numbers as well @ 5 secs interval and the text file is awfully huge... dun wan to waste my 20GBs

i admit i am rude in his reply, as i reply on the way it is(and plus i really have bad mood that day). His statement is already rude enuf (get the hell out of the network??)
another thing that really pissed me off about him is also the same sentence...
if we can actually terminate our account without paying the penalty fee, we have already 'get the hell of the network' long time ago, and this thread will not even exist in the 1st place...
what i wanna tell him, is that use his brain to do some thinking before making a post, instead of a statement like the one i reply..
also, like u said, some business dudes also uses high speed internet to download slides and data files that is quite big from their email. I bet they are also quite pissed off with it, since:
1) if they need such connection for such file, they might as well used up 20GB before end of month, and u know what will happen
2)the high latency of maxisBB makes the page load even slower then wired broadband, even though the wired broadband have slower connection speed( and sometimes it wont even finish loading the site, just half page and stopped there)
3)maxisBB is unstable, as u all know, and if they are using file host to download instead, it will just DC half way, and u have to re download again, even if u can resume back, it would take u some sweet time to reconnect, then half way DC again....
on the above reason, i think that maxisBB is not even suitable for business users, correct me if i am wrong
i am not trying to say that u are wrong, butthead, but i see a lot of users experience this(including me), and also, this is just my opinion
also, butthead, i didnt mean that he is a maxis troop(cos they won call us to 'get the hell out of the network'), just say that don say something that makes himself sounds like
they will say no...
A technician called me regarding my complains about cannot log into online game in email i think in last month . i ask him the same question u asked them, and they say no, then i started bringing out some of my experience on bypassing the ports, and his answer do hint that they are doing something with the ports
okay.. i admit... i missed the "so get the hell outta the network.".... but him being rude in the first place does not give you the right to be rude as well... just because he draw first blood does not mean that you should fire back...he should filter his phrase before he posted it that much i admit... but some part of his argument is sort of valid...... anyways... wats said is said.. no point taking it back now...
i dunno about your case with file hosts... i used it before too... it was quite OK for me if my IP does not change during any connection drops or from HSDPA drop to UMTS... which is quite rare.. maybe once or twice a day for me tops... most file hosting sites does not allow resuming if i am not wrong... anyways... the DL will not cause the connection to idle and it will seldom throttle back to UMTS except for the awkward once or twice per day that i mentioned...
images is sometimes a pain in the ass... some of the big images does not load all the way... get stuck halfway and i need to reload the damn page cos reloading the image itself does not work...
wat you said about "i think that maxisBB is not even suitable for business users" if you are talking about using it for a business... yes i agree... but for individuals that are on the move i think it is still quite OK...
prasys,
how did you find out that all ports are blocked? as far as i know.. my office VPN runs on some strange ports as well... .. and it still works as i tried today...
