Probably in other side of Australia, not Melbourne. Since there are actually some planning guide for Melbourne towards 2030 but I'm not sure whether they're going to approve an enormous shopping mall near Melbourne CBD. Future congestion issue...
even though roti canai in Australia is not as delicious and oily as Malaysia but the curry in Lazzat sure is good. I've also heard that they got Nasi Lemak House also along Lygon St. But I haven't being there yet...

but Es Teler 77 sure is a good Indonesian style restaurant....i really love Nasi Uduk... laugh.gif
*
katunX; ya ...the melbourne 2030.....the whole system in CBD need alittle overhaul. too much in a rectangular box and talking about shopping complex..small retails here need support to improve.
eh, what about the planned William Landing; 18km from city.. doh.gif

QUOTE(haya @ May 7 2008, 02:52 PM)

Let me make this clear: this thread is not for general banter or chit chat. It is for the members to share information on studying and living in Australia AS A STUDENT. Open discussion and alternate view points are accepted, as long as you have FACTS to back yourself up. KVReninem has opened a thread in the black hole called Kopitiam if you want to spew your mindless spleen. Keep this thread clean and on topic, touching on issues that afffect Malaysian International students in Australia.
I have no idea what KVReninem is trying to say. If we wants to bring FTTH to everyone he's more than welcome, as long it doesn't cost more than $60/month, any slower than 50Mbits, and if you can't make it unlimited at least a cap of 100GB, without the ridiculous rubbish of peak and off-peak data.

But Labour has just scrapped the Opel project. Which is quite a shame, but I personally think it was the way to go, as the whole consortium couldn't agree on Open Access, which after looking at Telstra and Telecom NZ, the project would have been doomed if they went ahead anyway.

If he wants to make another forum ala forum.lowyat.net, it then begs another question: why reinvent the wheel?

I frankly don't understand why people moan that there needs to be more "big boss" into the Australian retail market. It is precisely because there are so many big corporations, that "real" shopping malls, by Asian definition, are hard to come by.

Everything is dominated by 1 or 2 big companies. Take Woolies and Coles. If you open a sundry shop, you can't survive against them. And if you think you can survive in the suburbs, catering to small purchases, you'll be eaten up by 7-eleven or NightOwl pretty quickly.

Electronics. Ever wondered why the free-for-all Lowyat (or Sim Lim while I'm at it) can't survive in Australia? Everything is dominated by d*** Smith (and can someone stop IPB from thinking it is an expletive?) or Harvey Norman. You can't compete with them, and even if you do try, only the real hard core will drive all the way out to some Asian run computer part shop because they offer better prices and range in a warehouse.

People have been brought up on Dell, HP, Toshiba and Acer. Its not easy being a geek here. I admit, I do miss Low Yat.

Ditto for shopping malls. They're run by one of the big three:Myer, Westfield and to a small extent, Centro. Just because you are a timber tycoon (or mining, in the Australian context) you can't just rock up and build a shopping center. "You're playing with the big boys now". Which is not a bad thing, looking at some of the disasters in M'sia that pass for "shopping complexes".

Its a whole new world man.

haya want to be moderator?
i`m just bs dude. well talking about broadband...I just don't get it. Australia is basically lag behind far enough where by Internet infrastructure isn't there like what you get in USA.
now US going recession; i just hope the worker from USA telco company come over and shakes thing up before the worst move by rudd govt.

and speaking about retail here; a free market. you want to play with big boys like kevin stokes, parkers etc etc..who have strong fundamental of business better get buck up well before enter like what singapore people do.

Kopitiam is really a black hole to me.A subforum that is filled with mindless crap.

Damn,i was thinking of getting a desktop here.I really hate to do CAD without a numpad but getting a desktop from Dell or Acer is no no for me.

I still prefer for a custom build desktop with the parts that i want to use, especially the graphics card.Dell,Acer and others often give crappy graphics card.

Which state are you looking into going? Or it doesn't matter to you?

If you ask me, and you're looking at Perth, I'd say UWA or Curtin. Heard nothing but good things from the Engineering students.

Melbourne 2030 still long way, the 2010 plan also not in work yet. Those high rise apartment are too annoying sometimes; honestly; the space design is not that good as the one you got in along St.Kilda area.It is getting more smaller and look at area such as brunswick, parkville, north melbourne, richmond..some even look like slumps.

The closest you can get is Capitol Square in the city. it's along George St near Market City if you haven't been there before. Although it's no where near Low Yat, but there's still a couple of shops (around 10 I reckon) there selling computer parts ala Low Yat. There might be some other places that I'm not aware of, you gotta ask chris on that.

is it, gosh? Probably i miss that issue, but really for Melbourne 2030, i don't think it can work, because there will 1.2 million people extra from the target. Australian living in high-rise apartment? Except the government got a better solution in term of design or planning. St.Kilda apartment to rate with north melbourne will be quite out of reach...st.kilda = freaking rich area, north melbourne, brunswick=gonna be slum soon without better solution...

australia living in high rise apartment is so wrong i think. Look at the ground it can cover; east and west not in balance. the city of melb grow nmore in the east than west.
after geelong, ballarat..no other upcoming small satellite connect each cell.

Norsiah is ok, but it smells of oil and its quite horrible to eat there. Try having take-away and it'll be better.

Nasi Lemak house is not on lygon, it is on Grattan and I don't like it there. It looks really nice, as you walk by and smell the food-but the service is not really good and I think the food is not very spectacular.

If you want fantastic food, try:
Lazzat, along Lygon (next to Freddos, another good gelati shop smile.gif )
Estellar in the city

HP Compaq business notebooks are really great, with excellent build quality and top-notch performance. You should consider those if you want a durable notebook for university. I personally use an nc6400, but the 8510p/w 15.4" models have excellent graphics cards (X2600/Quadro FX 570).

I cant change now.Might as well stick to the one i have now.

It's not that bad. It's just im not satisfied with the component quality.

If it doesnt break down anymore,im still quite happy with it.

Now,i just need a quad core with a nVidia 9-Series GC to fully utilise DX10.8600GT isnt powerful to handle DX10.
