what can I say.... hmm.gif Weather 4 seasons (Melbourne, Geelong), I don't really like winter though, cold weather don't really suit my Malaysian body. Summer, good season to work, good many. Too many picking, packing, sorting job in the farm. Too many good money to make. laugh.gif

Foods, I can't say much since I'm a Muslim, but still you can easily get halal food or even asian foods.

Education, way much better than Malaysia, I'd done my first degree in Malaysia and it was really not like studying in Australia. Different style, broaden perspective....I love it. Except, lots of reading for Architecture course.

Facilities, really efficient, only once in while you will experience late or delay...

Girls? Should or should i say heaven? laugh.gif

Only in summer tongue.gif
Although boots do look sexy in their own way.

Food REALLY sucks, especially Asian food. I'm not a big fan of Western food so I can't comment on how great/shit the Western food here are like, but seriously it's very hard to find food that taste like what we have back home. No wonder everyone calls Malaysia a food heaven. Geelong has great seafood though. thumbup.gif

For girls, Melbourne is really a shopping heaven (if you don't care about the exchange rate). It's easy to find clothes and apparel at bargain prices if you know where to look for them. For guys however, if you're not into trendy fashion stuff it's kinda meh anyway. I hate going to malls here because ALL of them have the same shops. You WILL find the same shops no matter you're in Knox City, in Chadstone, in Geelong, in Highpoint, or just hanging around along Bourke St. Bah... boring... it lacks uniqueness.

Facilities... it depends. It may seem more efficient to do stuff over here, but not necessarily... sometimes there's still a lot of hassle to go through. The only good thing I can think of is the relative ease of getting info and applications done online, which sadly reminds me of the crap websites of Malaysian jabatan-jabatan.

But yeah, it's not actually a bad place apart from the 4-seasons-per-day weather; yet I still think Malaysia is a much comfortable place to live in. Home will always be home.

Yeah, lots of different types here. tongue.gif

Still,the food here suxs.

Really miss Malaysian food. The food here are mostly tasteless compare to Malaysian food.Asian food is the worst.Western food is ok but they are expensive.

I also hate going to shopping malls. It's too small to lepak around there. The only reason i go there is for EB Games.Just go there to watch some trailers or fancy ori box.

I like shopping centres here! You can walk to stores that you like without having to stop and rest your feet because they ache. Silly shopping centres in Malaysia make you walk foreverrrr.

And.. apparently they make really good Malaysian food at this place in Doncaster for those of you who are in Melbourne.... I always forget the name tho.

Here, it always sale on every season, winter sale, summer sale, spring sale, autumn sale. So, it really a good place to go shopping though even if you can't find a shopping mall that is bigger than Mid Valley....

If people in Melbourne and Sydney, the two biggest cities in Australia are complaining that there is nothing to do, what about those in Brisbane, Adelaide or even worst, Hobart?

I don't know about you guys, but I can't find Brisbane "boring". I'm a small town boy, so Indooroopilly shopping "town" is big enough for me.

Again, food wise, I find its okay here. I admit, you are never going to get the range of food as in M'sia, but take this as an experience. Not everywhere has a mamak stall y'know. And I'm not talking outside M'sia either.

Surely the "mostly tasteless" foods you buy are better than most of our cooking? wink.gif

haha food in Melbourne is okay.. you've' gotta know where to eat.. so don't say food sucks in general!! maybe i'm so used to eating my own cooking so i don't have a problem with food.

it IS shopping heaven. a shop just called me this morning and told me that if i spend 32 dollars more i'll be entitled to a gold membership card.. crazy shit.. and that's $800 of spending..

I do miss home but when you compare the quality of living, Australia's a much better place to be in.. if you don't like the cold weather then go to Brisbane or smth tongue.gif

So I high guess it's time for some PRs here to become big boss and start investing into some real shopping malls in Aussie.

Probably in other side of Australia, not Melbourne. Since there are actually some planning guide for Melbourne towards 2030 but I'm not sure whether they're going to approve an enormous shopping mall near Melbourne CBD. Future congestion issue...

even though roti canai in Australia is not as delicious and oily as Malaysia but the curry in Lazzat sure is good. I've also heard that they got Nasi Lemak House also along Lygon St. But I haven't being there yet...

but Es Teler 77 sure is a good Indonesian style restaurant....i really love Nasi Uduk... laugh.gif

Let me make this clear: this thread is not for general banter or chit chat. It is for the members to share information on studying and living in Australia AS A STUDENT. Open discussion and alternate view points are accepted, as long as you have FACTS to back yourself up. KVReninem has opened a thread in the black hole called Kopitiam if you want to spew your mindless spleen. Keep this thread clean and on topic, touching on issues that afffect Malaysian International students in Australia.

I have no idea what KVReninem is trying to say. If we wants to bring FTTH to everyone he's more than welcome, as long it doesn't cost more than $60/month, any slower than 50Mbits, and if you can't make it unlimited at least a cap of 100GB, without the ridiculous rubbish of peak and off-peak data.

But Labour has just scrapped the Opel project. Which is quite a shame, but I personally think it was the way to go, as the whole consortium couldn't agree on Open Access, which after looking at Telstra and Telecom NZ, the project would have been doomed if they went ahead anyway.

If he wants to make another forum ala forum.lowyat.net, it then begs another question: why reinvent the wheel?

I frankly don't understand why people moan that there needs to be more "big boss" into the Australian retail market. It is precisely because there are so many big corporations, that "real" shopping malls, by Asian definition, are hard to come by.

Everything is dominated by 1 or 2 big companies. Take Woolies and Coles. If you open a sundry shop, you can't survive against them. And if you think you can survive in the suburbs, catering to small purchases, you'll be eaten up by 7-eleven or NightOwl pretty quickly.

Electronics. Ever wondered why the free-for-all Lowyat (or Sim Lim while I'm at it) can't survive in Australia? Everything is dominated by d*** Smith (and can someone stop IPB from thinking it is an expletive?) or Harvey Norman. You can't compete with them, and even if you do try, only the real hard core will drive all the way out to some Asian run computer part shop because they offer better prices and range in a warehouse.

People have been brought up on Dell, HP, Toshiba and Acer. Its not easy being a geek here. I admit, I do miss Low Yat.

Ditto for shopping malls. They're run by one of the big three:Myer, Westfield and to a small extent, Centro. Just because you are a timber tycoon (or mining, in the Australian context) you can't just rock up and build a shopping center. "You're playing with the big boys now". Which is not a bad thing, looking at some of the disasters in M'sia that pass for "shopping complexes".

Its a whole new world man.
