QUOTE(haya @ May 7 2008, 01:52 PM) Let me make this clear: this thread is not for general banter or chit chat. It is for the members to share information on studying and living in Australia AS A STUDENT. Open discussion and alternate view points are accepted, as long as you have FACTS to back yourself up. KVReninem has opened a thread in the Okayyyy..... sooooorry then, geez. Still looking for people who will be enrolling into Perth TAFE eCentral this July intake This post has been edited by Caedus: May 7 2008, 05:34 PM |

QUOTE(notanon @ May 7 2008, 05:33 PM) ok guys, need info on unis, which are the good ones for engineering, im gonna be applying this friday for june 08 intake, right now its melb u, unsw, and anu, though i have been told that uwa is good as well. and only reason im choosing this four is because im rather ignorant about the other choices as i havent heard/read much bout them. Which state are you looking into going? Or it doesn't matter to you?so ya, shud i consider any other universities for engineering? If you ask me, and you're looking at Perth, I'd say UWA or Curtin. Heard nothing but good things from the Engineering students. |

QUOTE(jae @ May 8 2008, 10:35 AM) It is pretty obvious you did not even make the effort to check out the first page then, the list of people and their whereabouts is in the third post. My bad QUOTE(wyxyz @ May 8 2008, 10:49 AM) If you're flying from West Malaysia, MAS would probably be a good choice, though I've heard that Thai Airways sometimes give cheaper tickets.I'm taking Brunei Airlines though, BND$476 one way. |

QUOTE(alexanderteoh @ May 8 2008, 09:47 PM) Anyone can tell me let's said once I got my Australian student visa, does this mean I can go to Australia immediately or I have to wait till my course start ? What is the procedures? Your visa should have an effective start date. You can go to Australia starting that date. When you check-in at the airport, they will check if you are "Ok to board" before issuing your boarding ticket And just FYI, if your visa was granted before the 28th April 2008 and you intend to work, you have to wait for your course to start, then apply for a work visa. If your visa was granted after that date, your work visa should be included with your student visa. |

QUOTE(victorvandort @ May 9 2008, 10:51 AM) I read a somewhere in this thread that Bentley has a high crime rate. OMG. I'm going to Curtin Uni this July. Needless to say I'm kinda worried. Is it true about the crime rate? So does anyone have any advice for newbies? I lived in Bentley for about 2-3 years... had 2 break-ins during that time... and one car crashed into my porch >.<Btw, anyone else going this July? CBS? Its mainly because of the abos in the area... and that its a student area so its a high profile target for opportunists. So make sure the place you rent is grilled up and park your car(s) out of sight from the main road. Going in July to take my IT course Added on May 9, 2008, 2:50 pm QUOTE(alexanderteoh @ May 9 2008, 12:49 AM) They ( IDP ) haven't give me any sign of update at all, and I choose TAFE Gymea or St. George which is close to my friend's house in Sydney I've dealt with IDP before (part-time education agent This post has been edited by Caedus: May 9 2008, 02:50 PM |

QUOTE(ckwei @ May 9 2008, 08:29 PM) caedus : stick with the normal package. i was a staunch supporter of iinet until they shafted me. what was supposed to take between 10-20 days became 10-20 working days, and in the end one month until my naked dsl was connected. now i'm finally on naked, how i wish to be able to revert back to the normal package where u have a landline to call any damn call centers in the event of screw ups. wasted a total of nearly 3 hrs on my mobile calling for help. 10-20 "working" days is their standard... its already stated in their terms. besides, the quota packages for naked dsl is pathetic. I have been with IInet for 6 years last time before I came back to Msia for family reasons... so I don't see any reason I shouldn't re-sub to their services You should have bought a VOIP compatible modem/router... since you get iiTalk for free with naked DSL plans. Free local and national calls, 20 cents untimed 1300 and 13 number calls... and my favourite: Calling Msia landlines 5c per minute and 9c per minute mobile! Normal packages mean you pay a monthly line rental... and I rarely use landlines for much And yea, their quotas are great! This post has been edited by Caedus: May 11 2008, 07:13 PM |

QUOTE(ckwei @ May 11 2008, 08:02 PM) i have skype for international calls, plus i dont use the phone much. i've previously been on iinet, but not on their naked dsl. their norm used to be between 1-3 days in the past, and the phone lines werent congested. naked dsl changed all that, and cos of oversubscription, the quality of service dropped as well. Yea... well, as long as they're still better than TMnet in almost every way... I'm a happy camper well i guess to each his own, and clearly the packages are there for a purpose. to me though, i think it's much better to stick with the traditional packages. Not to mention IInet is buying up Westnet... they're growing their own infrastructure even more This post has been edited by Caedus: May 11 2008, 09:08 PM |
