Yeah true, but how often do we use ISO3200. Its usually used under emergency situation only wert, so i guess it doesnt really matters. The only concern now Canon should have is how they should place their pricing, so many dSLRS are launching around this time and they all have competitive prices. Hopppeeefullllyyyy, it'll be the price around A200. But sounds impossible tho with this kind of features. T.T

350D has been discontinued, 400D will take over the place of 350D while 450D will take over the place of 400D. Pricings not confirmed tho. Hopefully the price of 400D will be like 350D now.

I have no idea why they wanna switch to SD card, cause almost all professional dslrs uses CF card. Is SD card's writing speed really higher than CF? No idea.

350D is still a good camera. It's just that maybe 450D is better, but dslrs have to keep up with the technologies you see. If not there wun be any improvements. So just get what suits you and your budget the best,

If people already got 350D or 400D then it's better to go for ++D and above rather than going sideways with 450D IMO. Unless for a 2nd body or personal pics but other than that it'd better tp go up than lateral.

Of course, no point upgrading from an entry level dslr to another entry level dslr. The sensor's de same except if you wan bigger screen, bigger mp or probably the liveview.

Both the portrait and sports picture taken with L lenses.. so pictures may look worse with the kit lens....

olympus already has dslr with live view for the entry level.

Is that considered as very noisy? I find it acceptable tho. Probably we should wait for the review to be release. I guess Canon wun be so careless to make a new dslr that has a bad noise control mechanism compared to it's older siblings? haha.

Canon isn't the best in noise control anymore, every brand has a CMOS now. The D300 and A700 have comparable levels to the 40D.
The CMOS noise control would've been what made my decision for Canon 2 years ago... but I realized that the ergonomics and features are honestly lacking. Only now does the 450D put a Spot Meter and a better grip! Also, the 400D was noisier than the 350D because they bumped up the resolution. We don't know how the 450D will fare because they bumped it up again! The 450D is going to be priced higher than the A200... but the A200 is fighting the 400D, which will drop price. The Live View Sony A300 will come later to fight the 450D and D80 replacement. |

Well, if 450D retains the same sensor as 350D/400D... not good for noise performance... same fate as 400D over 350D. Or even if 450D can retain good noise performance, more loss of detail will be expected due to hardware/software noise reduction.
In this case I believe 400D will still have its place... just like how Nikon segmented D80 and D40x in their entry line-up, Olympus with their E-510 and E-410, and Sony with their (soon to come) a300 and a200. Pentax will need to catch up too. |

Just kidding... i think should be D80.
The differences should be 450D has higher image qualiy, megapixel count and live view. And as usual, the Nikon feel more 'solid' and 'reliable'. |

Remarkably though, I got very good price for my lens at CANON KLCC. The Malay women who works there was the best when it came to bargaining prices. The other 2 guy employees though, kept to the higher prices...

But it will be soon coz Singapore just had an IT SHow also...... I believe Canon tried to clear as much 400D as possible before this baby 450D becomes fully available worldwide!! I have to be patient and wait for this 450D but some newbird like me may not be aware of this 450D, i happened to know about this 450D by chance, luck! |

Its a bit stupid though. International Warranty but you don't get it if you're a Malaysian Citizen who didn't buy Malaysian Warranty. The policy is in the warranty slip though. 'Applicable only in Malaysia' or equivalent. I believe they do honor International Warranty for foreigners but I do not know how do they screen for authenticity. I know that they do require proof of purchase and they do screen serial numbers. I guess all products they imported are recorded in terms of their batch serial numbers. So there's a start.Its actually a form of market protection they implemented though to tackle the gray importers. Believe it or not, Canon products are cheaper elsewhere than in Malaysia due to some form of import barriers the authorities implemented. So Canon Marketing Malaysia must have some form of protection for their sales. Look through the thread around here, all of them seem to say the same. So its pretty consistent. |

I'm also waiting for it. But the International Warranty does not work in Malaysia? Whats the definition of International Warranty then!?
The Price range is 2.6k-3.2k? Just for the body or comes with the lens? I think launch in early April or end of April. Or not later hopefully not. Sick of waiting. If adding up another 1K-2k for 40D, i'd suggest just sticking with 450D if under budget. 450D does have one flaw is the ISO range to 100-800. This is what i saw in reviews. |

400D/450D is capable up to ISO1600.
There are difference between international warranty and import/grey unit. Items that has proper international warranty will be honoured by Canon Malaysia but warranty from any other country is not entertained by Canon Malaysia. |

i think.. to make it abit more simple..
(correct me if im wrong) canon doesnt have international warranty for SLR n lense.. (i was told by a canon shop keeper this) or maybe.. canon is doing like how acer is doing their international warranty. if ur a malaysian.. ur international warranty does work in malaysia. (this is what i was told by acer people) |

just check at the Canon shop at the curve damansara..
they put the tag for 450D for RM3200 also... no free gift.. cheapest for 40D (with the lense) is rm4500 with gift such as tripod, 2gig CF card and a bag if im not mistaken.. ask when will the 450D coming out.. he says roughly about next month.. |

Live-view activates as 40d does.. but still need to figure out how to enable the AF.. with either mirror flip down or the digital/onscreen AF

Just be patient. I think getting a 450D is more worth it. Its better then 400D 10 folds. + the body is >26++rm for the body only. If with lens kit not more then <32++rm. So i would think the price range is about >27++RM <32++RM.

During the weekend, I happened to stop by the Canon Shop at Curve. I saw they displaying the brochure outside ths shop and suprisingly find 450D selling RM3299 with 18-55mm IS Kit.
Quickly I went into the shop and the first reaction from the shop keeper is "Sorry, you need to pre order this model and we do not have any in stock". I asked him how long do I need to wait and he show me that "I dont think you can effort the camera" type of face and prompt me a funny question "Are you a photographer?" then I asked "Why?" "You can only pre order it and get it by next month if you are a photographer. If not, we cant not going to accpet your order." I was like WTF. So now, we need to get a license and become certified only can buy the camera issit? I walked out of the shop pissed and I wish em luck in their sales. What an A%@ hole. |

For what ever reasons make the shop keeper (or owner) reacted to me on that day only bring one conclusion to me. No matter how cheap they selling, how convinient their store location is or how near is their shop to my place.

Canon EOS 400D BODY = around 2k Canon EOS 40D (body) = around 3.9k Nikon D40 kit = around 1.7k Nikon D60 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm VR Lens = around 2.3k Nikon D80 SLR body = around 2.8k Sony Alpha A200 KIT = around 1.9k Sony Alpha A350 KIT = around 2.7k Since Canon can't place them higher than 2.8k (ppl might get D80 or A350) Then can't be too cheap (cant fight price with D60) if they do compete on price (price at 2.3k), this would mean killing themself in the long term? but is good for us, i guess olympus, pentax and sony would join in the price war (Nikon mostly wont join in) This means if my budget is below 2k, I am left with 400D (which is on sales since Nov2006) This makes the newer D40 (compare with 400D) or even newer A200 a steal (for me, newer tech mostly r better as it always means technological advancement) Without a cheap entry level, i guess Sony would be eating in Canon Market? The 450D is "of the same class" as the 400D, namely entry level. However we know from specs that it's got some relevant additions.
I am guessing that the reason he said it does not replace, is so that the previous entry-level model can drop its price and become a budget model. They kept the 350D when the 400D came out for the same reason. Meanwhile for the A200, it was released AS a budget model; the A300 being a Live View-for budget and the A350 as Live View, entry-level. The A200/300/350/700 were all meant to be sold at the same time to different budgets and requirements... like a 1.3cc, 1.6cc and 1.8cc car model y'know. They're not spaced 18 months apart. |

I'm not saying whether Sony power or not... I'm saying, the A300 does not kill and replace the A200 hehe.
The A200, A300 and A350 will probably be killed in 18 months from its release date. By then 3" 640x480 screens and CMOS sensors will be so cheap, and they might have a VIDEO recording function. In 2 years, if you could have an A200 for cheap, you wouldn't want it, right? Also, the A100 was killed easily because of the weak ISO performance and slow and hunting auto-focus. The current generation of Alphas have all fixed the ISO and AF problems of the A100. Canon meanwhile let the 350D live while the 400D was out... and let the 400D live when the 450D was out. |

Another reason why A100 was killed is that it's more like a Minolta 5D rebadged into Sony (with some tweaks here and there). The other Alphas are more like Sony design.

I went and try the 400D wasnt very comfortable on my hands and placement of buttons werent that good. Heard that 450D had some improvement on both button placements and grip. |

I would advice you to start learning with the kit lens for a few months first. Then maybe you can try out the 50mm f/1.8 the cheapest prime in the EF family and provides decent bokeh. Maybe a sigma 70-300 APO lens too. Just read around the threads here and I'm sure you'll be able to learn fast. Welcome to the DSLR world anyway! |

I think most major camera shops in KL carries sigma lens. Just go out and do some window shopping. Yes, all EF mount lens manufactured by sigma can be used by either the 450D or 40D. Well, whether to get the 450D or 40D depends on your budget and usage. If you ever get the 40D, I think that cam can last you for a very long time before you start thinking of an upgrade. |

450D is already out at the market.. A big shop at Sg.Wang Plaza (1st floor) got sell edi.. I tried it out yesterday.. not bad.. much much more lighter then 400D and the kit lens comes with IS... zzzzz wish my 400D come with that.. boiiing boiiiing... hahhahah get the hint

If im not mistaken, the 85mm f/1.2 L cost Rm5k++.. That lens is a piece of gem.. If you've limited budget, consider the 85mm f/1.8 cost around RM1.3k bokeh is wonderful too. |

lol...u guys haven't been to the PC Fair? got 1 booth showing 450D at (i think) hall 4..can't remember the booth's name..but the guy wear mykamera.com t-shirt that time..its quite nice btw (coming from a noob in DSLR field..wanna get my 1st DSLR too..)
now I'm poisoned by the thought of either buying 450D or 40D...wanna buy in the future...around September or October when I am studying in US.. what do you guys think? 40D or 450D? since 40D is just around $300 higher than 450D in the US... |

i also want to buy one but a bit expensive la, is it worth it to spend wee bit more for a 450D? got big difference between 450D and 400D?
