RM2.5k can get dual kit lens Sony A200.
Add RM200 can get single kit lens Sony A350 (14Mp, Live View).

The most important thing is which Camera do u 1st come across.

Beside that, ur friend is Canon kaki.

So If he have any good lens. U might borrow from him.

Nikon is good, u also can think about on the D60.

This is a piece of advise only. Is all up to u.

there's no best camera here. Its about beginner's practicality. Get the A200 twin kit. In the future you can add a battery grip too(i think) tongue.gif

Or u could get Olympus E-510 for rm 2300, but it up to you which brand you like more, i suggest you look for brand that have more accessories, and easy to get. Sony is ok but the lens is expensive or you get 3rd party lens which is less expensive. If your friend have canon camera, you can borrow lens from them.

Come on, if you got 2.5K to spend, you should spend sometime reading up tons of reviews of the cameras. You should be able to know which one is within your budget, what are the pros and cons of each camera. If you ask questions like "what's a twin lens kit", then you obviously didn't read up much. Am I right?

My opinion, I would suggest you go the Canon route. Not because it's better or cheaper or what not, but because you have a Canon friend. You can borrow lenses and talk in Canon terminology with him and ask him to guide you. If you go the Nikon or Sony route, sorry bro, it will be difficult to help you. And borrowing lenses definitely out of the question.

I also say this because I know brand and body is not really important. Anyone doubting this can go to flickr, look for the pictures taken by the worst DSLR you think exist (say D40 or 350D or Pentax k100D) and you'll be surprised that these 'cheap' cameras can take pictures that will simply blow you away. More important is knowledge about photography itself (means your brain is more important biggrin.gif)

So do this:
1. Read as much about cameras. If you don't understand, keep reading till you do, and hold on to your cash. If you can't understand, even if you spend 10k you'll still take bad pics wink.gif
2. After reading and deciding your camera (Canon la), go ask your friend join you in a camera purchase.
3. After buying, read the manual front to back, page by page. Do this 3 times lol.
4. Join an outing. Hands on practical is the best training.
5. Get a few good books about photography you think you understand least. Something about lighting/exposure, portraiture and maybe a photoshop book.

Done.

One tips for TS, don't invest too much on body till you don't have much money left to invest on good lens. At the end of the day, the lens is the one that will make your whoaaa at the pictures snapped. smile.gif

Choose wisely, don't regret later. Consider factors like
- price of a brand's new lens compared to other brand's new lens
- availability of used unit.
- price of used lens of one brand compared to other.
- price of the accessories
