hmm the place strangely like the proton COE near shah alam. Well the interior looked neat enough.
Too bad that the back seat does not have a headrest like the savvy. Maybe if they produce the highline they will put it? oh and 1 more thing..THe engine bay looked different.. i can see the IAFM module at the right side of the engine but the spark plug area looked diffrent...it seems like they added something..Any campro owners want to comment on this? THe air cond vents dont suits the car well. They should retain the original savvy one instead of ripping it off from nippon car.

similar interior to the savvy.....but savvy has a nicer built quality and design.....probably thats where it scores higher price besides a more reinforced body for a compact.

i'll be great if there's a 2nd airbag....but since its basic lineup......kinda impossible though.....i'd prefer ABS and EBD. |

The car exterior & interior looks nice. Hopefully the car will be reliable as well. definitely will be one of my wishlist for this year.
now, to find a good source for funds...... btw does the car also have no front power windows as an option? |

No doubt this is based on Savvy.. interior is 90% similar..small patch of fabric for the door panel trim.. deep set dashboard with curved windscreen just like Savvy contributes nicer to driving position than Gen.2..non integrated HU which is easier to upgrade... I like the front exterior, the design abruptly put a halt to Savvy's roundish front end design...headlamps design Savvy still better...
Damn can't wait to test drive... |

not so nice la..y everyone say nice?..the auto gear stick looks like a joystick..hope someone doesn't grab it n think they're driving (flying?) the car wif it
from the front n the back it look nice..i like the lights..but from the sides it looks a bit too high n the back is short..like kene squashed from the back..funny la..maybe it'll look nicer wif bigger rims n lowered..SE/R3 edition plzzzzzz This post has been edited by zx12: Jan 11 2008, 01:07 AM |

QUOTE(zadan @ Jan 11 2008, 01:14 AM) this head lamp nicer design afterall savvy priced more than this SAGA (except savvy lite)for a BLM this car is looking great but i can see that savvy has better interior quality than this, looks more solid. overall i do think this car will sell very well! nway for the price that proton ask for this new saga...its definitely really competitive in this segmen hope handling n the ride n quality are good...come on p1..dont let us down. |

nah you can't go wrong with latest proton models...my Savvy interior doesn't give our rattle snake's sound after 2 years, no squeaking mouse from the suspension and engine's still smooth...no doubt this BLM will be a hot stuff.

PS. All round power windows are not a good idea in case the car plops into a river and u need to get out. Besides, who ever opens the back windows? This post has been edited by ceo684: Jan 11 2008, 01:38 AM |

QUOTE(Aggronax @ Jan 11 2008, 02:34 AM) IAFM is variable intake manifold. It means the intake manifold can have two different lengths to suit driving conditions. How it does is in general is to have a valve that can close and open to adjust the length of the manifold. Having a shorter air path from the filter to the engine is good at high engine RPM and a longer path is good when the engine is at low speed eg. city driving. With this it improves the overall torque curve of the engine giving it good low end torque and high end too. Other systems are VIM=variable intake manifold by toyota, Cyclone by Mitsubishi and many more including BMW who has this implemented on many models including the M performance cars if i am not mistaken.IAFM can be fit but i think but the cost is just too much, first you have to get the manifold and airbox set, followed by a new ECU as well. Not entirely plug and play. |

Nice pics... at least we can get a clear view of the Saga instead of the annoying teaser pics Proton is giving us now.
The front end is undoubtedly the most charming aspect of this car. It looks like it's descended from the new Proton family tree, sharing same aesthetic genes as the Satria Neo and of course it's sibling Savvy. Yet at the same time it looks distinctively unique. The rear end looks pretty good too. The rear lamps may resemble the old C-class, yet the entire look reminds me of a Skoda Octavia. At least it looks much acceptable than the awkward Savvy (I actually like the Savvy's radical look ![]() The side profile however looks relatively drab. For a car with such a charming front end, the side profile fails to fit in. The surface is flat while it turns from sporty to squarish/boxy towards the end; while the high boot makes it look like a commercial vehicle. The skinny wheels doesn't help either. My first impression was, OMFG... it's an A160 !! Interior looks really boring and cheap, although the material quality can't be seen from the pictures. The central console looks cheapskate. Savvy's dash actually looks better even though these two cars share quite a number of parts. Even though this is a budget car Proton should have given us a much better interior. Overall, it's looking good from the outside, but we'll need to see test drive reviews to know what's under the hood. Will this sub 40K machine wrestle market share from Perodua? Probably, if it doesn't suffer any more "traditional" Proton problems... It might just eat into the Viva's sales, and even it's own sibling Savvy because it has a boot. Yet the Myvi is less likely to be affected because of its different model range. |

I believe the pic was taken inside the proton shah alam plant. So whoever taken this picture and share it here with us is either Proton staff, or proton vendor.
Talking of ethic, whoever taken this pic, either proton staff or vendor, shame on u, you have breach the trust given to you. Spy shoot outside the factory is one thing, but this photo is kind of showing there are ppl who do not respect the confidentiality that they are suppose to keep. That really make me sad........ |

QUOTE(StarGhazzer @ Jan 11 2008, 10:24 AM) For people working for Proton... yeah, it's a shame. Agree. The supposedly proton staff is indeed very unethical in releasing these photos. And about pre-ordering w/o having a look at the actual model i guess it's a pretty common practice in automotive industry. Perhaps because it is PROTON people are doubtful to place an order before seeing it in flesh. Anyway, thousands do have faith in Proton and ordered their latest Saga For consumers like us, pictures like these are a blessing. How can we make a pre-order without even looking at actual pics? Just wild idea.. car hacking.. (just like what the American Chopper does for bikes) would be possible if Proton ship BLM like LEGO package..
Anyway..I' think the Proton BLM is "NO FRILL" car for general rakyat, pricing was right and engine performance should be reasonable and fuel consumption (IAMF) should be better than Proton Persona/Waja Campro (but like to see it close to Savvy). My wishlist of BLM, should have a air bag for driver at least,no more power windows problem (like SAGA), and welding gaps are closed/seal (no more mosquito lava breeding ground).. QUALITY in finish.. and GAPS should be closer.. It a rakyat car ... This post has been edited by debiankl: Jan 11 2008, 05:16 PM |

ahh....current protons also service at interval of 10k,after reach the 20k mark..later then, they put in the manual, change oil filter every 5k..what's the different???
I think the most important thing in proton to claims is,their car now comes with better QC and they gurantee it. This post has been edited by aizad02: Jan 11 2008, 06:12 PM |

But i just cant tahan some ppl who havent even test drive the car yet but still they say the handling is damn good.. The perception that a Proton handles good is because good handling has always been a Proton trademark since the Savvy. Yep sure getting an opinion is important but seriously, Jeremy Clarkson?! Top Gear is a good entertainment programme but they've never done a 'proper' review. The show has been biased, unfair and ridiculous when it comes to Korean and Malaysian cars. Try some other sources like Paul Tan, for example. LOL, i don't think any of us got worked out. Just a usual exchange of opinions p/s: About buying things blindly...hm, i guess not really 'blind'. We have knew quite a lot about the BLM don't we? Pre-ordering is a usual practice in many fields. People usually pre-order without a complete knowledge about a certain product based on either brand loyalty or the past records of the brand. In gaming industry for instance, pre-ordering is normal when people have just only seen the trailers or played the demo. |

Perception that proton handles good because good handling has been a Proton trademark????!! ohyea, lotus handling i remember... Quote of the year for 2008.... Anyway, back to the BLM,for 30-40 k car i aint expecting that much but that car seriously looks way too cramp. From the design of the seat i can see that it is very cramp and not spacious at all even though some may say it is a sedan. But my guess is it is even smaller than a Hyundai accent(Now dont come and tell me accent is RM 50k++ car) The steering looks bad.Looks to plastiky, and weird. The only positive is that the front is quite nice looking. The back is so so,and the side view is plain crap. But the most important is interior cause we spend most of the time in the car.I have given Proton many chances but the same old crappy problems occured in my bro's neo,my friends Persona.IF ppl buy this BLM,it definately because its cheap, nothing else. |

Absolute bullshit? We'll see. I respect your ability to see quality of materials through camera phone pictures that are not capable of capturing such details, and also your ability to time travel to the future when the BLM is already launched and make a statement about interior space, and also the reason why people buy it. my personal view, this new saga do looks nice. the interior definitely need some improvements.
anyway, that's my opinion from the first look. the things is, proton is improving. maybe the overall quality is not yet satisfied a lot of people, yet proton is showing some improvement. that's a good thing. I dont like jeremy clarkson. his show focus primarily on getting higher rating. good luck proton. |

Wira's handling is much better than Myvi's. Myvi's handling is rubbish. Cheap plastics? Viva and Myvi's dashboard plastics looks and feels cheap too. For this BLM, i'm not too sure, as we need to check it out at the showroom first. I guess, most people will buy this car not only because it's cheap... they will buy it because it's a sedan. And we all know that most Malaysians prefer sedans.Especially good looking ones. u said u aint expecting much but it seems like u r contradicting urself picture can be deceiving, so sit in the car before make any complain dont tell me ur overpriced myvi and viva doesnt have plastic feel.. now that is what i call fanboyism |

Cannot comment on the quality, reliability or how long it will last yet since the car is not launched. Please note that, the price of car in Malaysia is high compared to other country so people are used to the "overpriced" pricing. So when a car is sold at a cheaper price people will think too much "cut cost" is done to make it cheap thus the quality is bad.

QUOTE(kevin23 @ Jan 11 2008, 07:47 PM) You are TEH WIN.Myvi is the ONLY car in the world that has round aircon vents Interior does 'look' cheap, but we won't know until we feel it with our bare hands, right? I'm sure it won't be Beemer or Audi quality, not even to the extent of Japanese imports, yet I'm sure Proton won't be that stupid to give us crap materials this time round. Speaking of which, Myvi's dashboard also have cheap parts... the central console buttons are very thin and plasticky. My guess is that the Saga will have something similar. Top speed... hehe... that's not exactly important anyway. How many times do you need to speed up to 150kmh and above? What's more important is the FC and reliability of the engine. |

Because that is the only way if Proton want to turn back from their 2006 and 2007 loss.
a price war with Perodua just perfect to make Proton more competitive. Added on January 12, 2008, 4:13 pmso now Myvi and Viva is overprice compare to the new 1.3 Saga or the 1.6 Persona. This post has been edited by zacevox: Jan 12 2008, 04:13 PM |

Wira has 66kw/6000rpm(92bhp) 126nm/3000rpm Blm has 70kw/6000rpm(94bhp) 120nm/4000rpm Myvi has 64kw/6000rpm(85bhp) 116nm/3200rpm Comparing power to weight ratio the blm is not bad and why cant it go up genting since its more powerful than wira? My wira auto tapau my fren wira manual technically not possible coz gear ratio does not permit it but some how i manage to to win. |

Malaysians, normal la.
Buy a car must ask the SA, boleh naik genting ka? Buy a car when it's cheap, must be cut cost. Buy a car, base on design. Buy a car, need abs, ebd, airbag but still dead What else? Oh i forgot 1 important thing. Engine must have "VVT" No V and T is lousy engine. |

from my initial expression, i'ld say gd effort from proton... tink it's a better buy den viva if dey can improve on de parts below (compare wif de savy which de car is based on):-
- larger interior legroom and headroom, mayb de back legroom but for the front tink ntg much can b altered since de A-pillar is de same as savvy's... - the 'thud' door sound when slamming the door to close compare to the savvy's 1 which gives a 'chuck' sound when it's slammed... - Lotus Handling like the savvy... - improved suspension system (have been told that savvy's suspension dun absorb bumps very well), ok i might affect the handling but it's a sedan so it shud b more comfortable... - improve on the interior plastic quality with some added features such as power windows and stuff lidat... - side turning signal and electric side mirror (dun mean de auto retractable wan)... anything u guys would like 2 add?? dat's juz my honest opinion... sorry if i've offended any savvy's fan here... as for the price factor i tink it's still ok dey price it a lil' bit more and add-on some extra features such as passengers airbag, back power window, side turning signal, etc... if those features can be added-on, it can actually compare and affect the myvi's sale instead of the viva only |

good effort .
somehow, i got the sense that someone will upgrade the engine to some bigger size engine such as the 1.6 campro or even certain mitsu engine as the campro mounting is almost the same . |

QUOTE(LPJ @ Jan 11 2008, 10:22 AM) I believe the pic was taken inside the proton shah alam plant. So whoever taken this picture and share it here with us is either Proton staff, or proton vendor. I dont think proton would really mind some leaked pictures. in fact, I think it's good for them. it helps them to promote their new car. I am wondering if this was done on purpose by proton to increase our 'desire' to own that car.Talking of ethic, whoever taken this pic, either proton staff or vendor, shame on u, you have breach the trust given to you. Spy shoot outside the factory is one thing, but this photo is kind of showing there are ppl who do not respect the confidentiality that they are suppose to keep. That really make me sad........ witchblade, nice pictures. u had shown me something I wanted to see oh so long time ago...... thanx |

The depreciation price for proton cars also sucks years to years.. i didn't say that P2 shared the same probs but at least as a consumer i also need to know before ending up buying one. i also want to know what make it so competitive among other cars also... The old Saga is a rebadge (based on Lancer Fiore), the same applies to the Myvi and other models...
At least, this is a leap forward for Saga after the current model is at the frontline for more than 20 years...i think they have done a great job on front and rear, side profile is okay... |

But the most important is interior cause we spend most of the time in the car.I have given Proton many chances but the same old crappy problems occured in my bro's neo,my friends Persona.IF ppl buy this BLM,it definately because its cheap, nothing else. yo kevin, now I come n tell u that accent is RM 50k++. what is ur reason for not comparing the blm and the accent price? they are both roughly the same size. |

Looks pretty cool... prefer Savvy lights & interior more (new aircond's nicer tho) but overall it's a sweet looking car, and what makes me happiest is that this car's gonna be all over the roads, and to have an updated version of the saga, instead of the old boxy one filling the roads, is definitely a good thing

Proton should have done abit to improve their interior part.....they have done well in exterior part, it's enough for SAGA version. Hope to see total CHANGED in PERDANA next time.

if i were a sales manager, if i have an SA with lack of knowledge (even it's about competitor's product) like that sure i fire already. bikin malu saja. good SA doesn't talk bad about other car, but rather explain the advantage of the product he's selling.

QUOTE(chyz66 @ Jan 14 2008, 04:02 PM) from the pictures, looks like the new sagas (Proton "black metal" BLM) were mass produced to meet the demand after the official launching.see the mis-aligned side strips VS the leaked brochure which doesn't have the miss align strips. Just a very simple thing, Proton Quality Control "QC" can miss out. That already portrait an important image of the company which is lacking of better or excellent QC. I hope Proton will rectify this and prove to the consumer that they are serious to give us a quality malaysian made product. Added on January 14, 2008, 4:55 pm QUOTE(neb @ Jan 14 2008, 04:40 PM) door strips should not be removed. it at least will try to prevent the doors getting "bullet holes" from parking beside inconsideration car owners. i'll cry (if the car parked beside me is gone) or start scratching to whoever made "bullet holes" to my car door! Overall Proton Black Metal exterior looks good! Interior..i don't like the meter dash board...can't comment much. need to see the actual car This post has been edited by ghost321: Jan 14 2008, 04:58 PM |

So whoever taken this picture and share it here with us is either Proton staff, or proton vendor. hmm this is very good of you to be standing on their side ...Talking of ethic, whoever taken this pic, either proton staff or vendor, shame on u, you have breach the trust given to you. Spy shoot outside the factory is one thing, but this photo is kind of showing there are ppl who do not respect the confidentiality that they are suppose to keep. That really make me sad........ and the whole point of a forum would be ... if u have it - share it ... if u dont have it, just wait and see la whats wrong is those pics ... if the pics cannot be leaked out ... i am sure he is being reprimanded already as we speak ... |

Now, I wish to book the all new SAGA. Can I ask how is the booking process be done since I havent have the experience of booking a car and fear of being cheated by those sales person.
Some of my questions : 1) Is it better to book the new SAGA after the launch? I have seen all those real photo of the cars and I'm definitely confirmed want to buy 1 2) Is the booking fee of RM500 refundable ? (Just as an assurance) 3) Do I have to go to different showroom to ask for a better deal? (I stay at Bukit Mertajam and there are a many PROTON EDAR showroom around - Juru Autocity, Bandar Perda, Megamall (beside it), Butterworth (Jelita Menawan). Does anyone has good buying experience from any of those or the one I didnt mention ? 4) Is the booking process is just fill in some personal information, then choose the spec, color that I want, then pay RM 500 and get the receipt as proof. Is it just that or am I missing something ? 5) Can somebody share your experience here? Thanks very very much. |

i think the ready stocks are actually really. There are alot of Proton Black Metal in spyshot pictures under the hot sun or cool rain. I bet all of them has the mis-aligned door strips
well door strips only.. nobody cares. Added on January 15, 2008, 11:05 am » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « i agree. i was tempted to buy GEN2 when it first launch. Lucky I didn't after reading the bad experience the owners have with their cars. I booked MYVI instead before it launch. Made a smart choice. Their customer service and service center was good. I always go to the main service center in PG. (book 1 week in advance to avoid waiting) as for the new saga, it is quite attractive too with the design and the price range if i'm looking for a 1st car options. do some research about their customer service/service center around your area or wait for feedbacks. if you can't wait ..... is your choice.. i think if u want to buy this saga, better wait till 3rd or 4th gen lar, better QC i think.as for me,i'm among the 1st gen of neo..so much problems..until now, over 1 year still got probs and at last, sick of going to s/c.i go repair myself outisde.easy and satisfying.u'll need tons of good luck to buy a 1st n 2nd gen of proton cars without any problems.

I know it will take quite a time to get the BLM but 6 months is just too long. Maybe the SA just want people to book the car so he/she increase the wait time.

QUOTE(madstone @ Jan 15 2008, 03:45 AM) My advice, changing dealer make suffer alot..... be patient lor...don'k book Proton's car after launching IF u want it fast, better book before launching Proton's has been doing this for years promis promise & promise just imagine last month i heard my friend still didn't get his Persona after 6 month to make it worst, he changed 2 dealers already for NEW SAGA, it is advisable to wait at least the 3rd,4th or 5th batch get their car 1st & 2nd batch is people who order before launching 3rd, 4th & 5th batch is people who book after launching & willing to wait 6 to 9 months, even worst than that, may be 1 year It's better & easier to wait after a year or more BUT if u want to take the risk, be my guess I learned a lot how proton's work they didn't produce stock for the market they like to wait for market 1st, how many people ordered etc etc from there, they will produce stock & most of them in low QC lot of probs IF u want Proton's car with less prob, wait a year OR more read lot of news about new SAGA, their owner, probs so on & so forth read lot of review about SAGA before jumping into buying it (but sometimes Proton paid writers to write false statement about their car) listen what their new owner want to say about their car after a year join cars forum like MOTORTRADER & AUTOWORLD to keep track on SAGA performance & probs For the time being, while waiting, keep your money, top up your downpayment don't make loan repayment more than 7 years coz Proton's car can't survive 7 years Proton's old car like Wira & previous model can stay that long BUT not for models after that my brother in law WAJA Campro, got major probs last year, 7 years like my car, but major repair top up your downpayment & loan repayment below 7 years |

This is gonna hit the Perodua Viva really hard, maybe even Myvi (1.3L also). The thing is, Proton may have to dump the Savvy into some other market like Jinhua Youngman of China, etc.

QUOTE(dstl1128 @ Jan 17 2008, 09:47 AM) TUV could be extended from Savvy. Bro, u haven't seen the specs for this car yet? Its not built for power, acceleration 0-100 for manual 13.5s, for auto 14.5s - MyVi 0-60 in 11.3, that's for the manual, auto not sure. Top speed, Saga manual 160kph, auto 155kph. MyVi manual 169kph, auto not too sure. However, with the lotus tuning, and hopefully TUV (cos Savvy, Satria Neo & Persona were very successful in terms of comfort & engine reliability)and IFAM (built for effeciency), its a completely different thing from iVTEC, VVTi and DVVT, so u can't really say its better or worse. Its the CPS that's comparable to those, new wajas gonna get it. so how bad can the new saga be? i really can't wait to see the interior. should be quite confortable too methinks. if i like it, booking & DP on the spot!!!No. It is better than Benz as it has Lotus steering and TUV sticker taken from Savvy. You guys are arguing on the wrong point it seems (as always). Nice styling? Perfect interior? Excellent performance? All that for 30k price? Go dream lar.
The saga is positioned in the budget subcompact segment, and thus the main target audience is either family getting a second car for their teens just out of college, or families of the lower-income group. Thus the main priority is space , reliability and cost effectiveness. Space is evident from the design. The height, the generous rear head room, and the high fenders. Boot space not sure, but hope they don't retain Waja's stupid boot. Reliability remains to be tested. Proton's reputation on this is bad, but Persona seems to seen some improvement after Syed Zainal Abidin's tenure (and wiping up the shit left behind by the braindead crony Tun Mahaleel). And finally, cost effectiveness. This again remains to be seen, influenced by spare part price, reliability and fuel efficiency. The other factors are merely second rate, because they serve only to sweeten the deal. Anyway, the new saga has the variable intake system. Wonder how it performs? |

Are u sure its longer and higher than the waja? I find that hard to believe. As it is, the 1.6 engine is already having trouble powering the Waja. And this one's a 1.3. From the picture, it looks about the size of a Toyota Vios only. |

Actually, i meant to say the number of bookings for Proton's cars are quite consistent, except for the Savvy which got pwned by Myvi thanks to its stupid advertising campaign. therefore the number of bookings does not reflect the quality of the car. I'm guessing sales numbers after the first year would be a better indicator? |

I can't remember what the savvy advrtising campaign was like, but did they hide it in a stupid black box like they did with this and the persona? if so, no wonder it got pawned by the MyVi. But i think it got pawned not cos of the advert though. Advert's got little to do with it. Its just the MyVi-Toyota/Daihatsu technology thing, makes it 'appear' more marketable that's all. Its got a slightly more marketable look as well, but personally i prefer the savvy. |

Plus the emphasis on driveability and practicability, with generous interior space and a comfortable drive, making it an instant hit for malaysian people because that is exactly what the majority wants.Savvy advertised itself as... first, TUV certified to repair the proton image, and then a stupid comic strip to show how tough the savvy is. And finally, focus on sporty features and the renault-gene from their recent win in F1 (which has nothing to do with their economy car engines), placing it to compete in the sport supermini segment which effectively guareentied its low sales. Not to mention that Myvi came out two months before Savvy did, and robbed away most of its potential customers. And not to mention Perodua's down-to-earth family-themed corporate image versus elitist-snubbish-arrogant Proton attitude... why support Proton when there is perodua? That's the common mentality I guess. Now Proton is doing what Perodua's doing... keep it low key, and let the industry players, press and word of mouth do the marketing. And finally, actually listening to consumer opinion for once. I don't support Proton. I support Syed Zainal Abidin. It's a turning point for Proton when Tun Mahaleel was ousted. |

QUOTE(Suave @ Jan 17 2008, 11:23 AM) Are u sure its longer and higher than the waja? I find that hard to believe. As it is, the 1.6 engine is already having trouble powering the Waja. And this one's a 1.3. From the picture, it looks about the size of a Toyota Vios only. yup..is longer and higher if u compare the dimension from the new saga and the current waja's brochure |

Reference from EON website for Waja, advertisement handout provided by Proton Edar for BLM.Here's the dimensions: BLM: (L)x(W)x(H) = 4257 x 1680 x 1502mm Weight: 1065kg (M-Line auto) Waja: 4465 x 1740 x 1420 Weight: 1205kg (1.6 Auto) |

According to an insider (which is my friend)..
You guys must be wondering why the New SAGA is cheap rite?? According to him that most of the parts comes from previous Proton models..Gen2, Neo and Savvy...that's why they managed to keep the cost very low..no need to manufacture new stuffs..just use their current models parts and mix it all up and shove it into the new Saga.. Nevertheless, i do really like this new Saga..can't wait to test drive it this coming weekend.. |

the car is only RM30k-40k, additional power window will increase the production cost.

I also don't prefer rear power window, less problem as proved by my humble 1.3 wira a/b. Actually I like the exterior but after owning wira 1.3, its time to migrate to higher model like persona or waja 1.6.
