Quake 4 is the fourth title in the series of Quake FPS computer games. It was developed by Raven Software and distributed by Activision. Tomb Raider: Anniversary, previously known as Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition, is the latest release of the Tomb Raider series. err.. man sorry if this is a bad news. Check out my new thread on my last post. I think Alienware's new m17x will be too expensive and does not worth the RM4000 for 8800gtx in SLi. However, I am trying to get a single 8800gtx on the 15.4 incher. However, they only offer that in Vista. Unless anyone here want to DONATE for review and benchies. Again I know, in my dreams...

and yeah, i meant the graphic card alone is RM4000, not the laptop as a whole.

Nope. I don't aware of that cuz this topic is mainly for us to submit our own benchmarks. If you got, just post here anything related.

Not at the moment from me. Hope that other forumers with powerful laptops will contribute to this topic. Although I personally will try to run a Crysis on my girly machine later.

I think u got confused. The GPUS (note the S) mentioned were 8800gtx in SLi, with each WILL costs somewhere around RM 2000. Some of us are still eagerly waiting for it to launch.

I know my machine is girly, but I don't have an exact verdict whether it can run Crysis or not. For benchmarking , optimal playable FPS is at 30 frame persec. Probably my machine will run slideshow. Anyway my brother has got the game and I'll try to do benchmark later, not for my own enjoyment but rather to provide a concrete info for fellow LowYatians without resorting to baseless assumptions here and there.

Yup I have to agree with HellRyzer. I have been asked way too much, "can my laptop run Crysis on high settings? on med settings at least?" or "Can my laptop run StarCraft 2?" The only answer is as simple as running the game on the laptop like what HellRyzer been doing for us now. Do game benchies will help a lot of potential notebook buyers and GAME buyers as well. I know some of us get a copy of ahem ahem for free, so I believe this thread could help more of us than we can ever imagine (with 3 second pause there..)

Would be good, if, let's say there was 3 games you would choose to benchmark, then other's can benchmark towards those games as well. (because benchmark would mean a certain sort of uniformity anyway)

Eg: Bioshock, World in Conflict, (insert random graphic demanding game here)
I know demos sometimes don't take into account SLi, (Bioshock), but then again how many of us are looking for SLi laptops.

So who's the one that will do the SLi benchies?

Gaza sup it has been awhile since I last see u. Did u know my m9700 has r.i.p? It's very long long story. It isn't the bad story about a company, it's actually a great news (at least for me). 8800m gtx is waiting for me...

The main issue would be one guy got the game while other guy can't get it yet. I think the most feasible technique for forumers is to submit whatever benchies and screenies that they can (even games that have been benchmarked before in this topic) using the guidelines in the first post under this topic. 1 post equals to 1 game benchmark with relevant machine spec used during that said benchies. If some of you guys want to collaborate in benchmarking, that's a nice initiative too by the way.

For example, let's say I'll handle mostly yesteryears games because my machine spec is a budget type. Whereas derred would handle mostly current cream DirectX10 games since his machine is da' beast. Also anybody with laptop using graphic other than NVIDIA wants to submit benchies / screenies please post everything here in this topic.

He should opt for a GeForce 8700M or above. I could suggest an Asus G1S (prices at RM 6,988 or less depend on stores), but then it only sports GeForce 8600M GT which is not *meeting* the requirement of such a hardcore gamer type. But for most of mainstream / moderate gamer type on a budget (including me), even GeForce 8400M is enough for playing games at this level.

First of all pardon me as I really have little knowledge of the pricing of gaming laptops. Very used to the desktop segment so usually I will think that RM4000 to RM5000 will already be enough to build a really good gaming machine. So I might be a little misled about information regarding gaming laptops... will help you guys help in clarifying stuff for me .


The DELL XPS M1730... sports a 8700M GT graphics along with 2GB DDR2 RAM. But with a monitor with resolution of 1920x1200 (that's huge man). My current monitor sports a 1680x1050 resolution with a 8800GTS 320MB.

Considering 8800GTS is more powerful than 8700M GT.. wouldn't playing in a resolution such as 1920x1200 be quite laggy??

The price range is quite OK.. RM 7,799.. though due to my unfamiliarness of the price range of gaming laptop.. I'm quite shock to see the price . But I guess I can top-up a little.

I'm glad to help. But I think you should wait for a new Dell XPS in the forthcoming months in order to secure your investment with a GeForce 8800M (the perfect choice for hardcores). Currently there's no offer on this card from Dell, except if you count in Dell's Alienware (overseas). The price is relatively high as usual since laptop parts are much smaller and contain unique design to accomodate a small space. Although I can't really say about the performance comparison with desktop companion parts; it might scores slightly lower cuz of underclocked nature of laptop gaming graphics.

But who has the stamina to hug your monster desktop rig to frends' house or LAN parties etc? That's why laptop gaming habit is unique and true gaming laptops are a luxury.

About hi-res gaming, GeForce 8700M and above can handle that at ease since they have larger dedicated RAM. This info is from NVIDIA and I'll post other statistics later.

Need for Speed: Carbon is an Electronic Arts video game that belongs to the Need for Speed series. Need for Speed: Carbon was first shown in EA's montage at Nintendo's E�2006 conference and booth and was the cover story in the Game Informer magazine issue of July 2006. Carbon is the first in the Need for Speed series to be released for all seventh generation consoles. Carbon features some of cars of its predecessors; namely Need for Speed Underground 2 and Need for Speed Most Wanted, but also incorporates many new additions including the Audi R8 Road Car (called Le Mans Quattro in-game), the Chrysler 300C SRT 8, Chevrolet's Chevelle SS and the Toyota MR2 Spyder. Tron 2.0 is a computer game developed by Monolith Productions. It is a sequel to the 1982 motion picture Tron. The PC version of the game was released by Buena Vista Games on August 26, 2003. The Mac version was released by MacPlay on April 21, 2004.The game is a first person shooter set "inside" a computer in the same sense as the original movie. The idea of Tron 2.0 was originally explored as a movie concept, but it was eventually decided to focus first on making it as a game. The Tron sequel film has recently been announced, and production is expected to begin soon. A four-issue Tron 2.0 comic book series based on the game was going to be released by 88 MPH Studios, but was cancelled before the first issue was completed due to licensing issues with Disney. I have a suggestion. It's hard to keep a thread clean without any comments or posts. There are tons of threads created with similar intention, like the workstation thread. So I suggest you list down all the games frontpage, and links them to specific post on this thread. That will be more helpful. So whenever any regulars forumer or even newcomers can get benefit just simply by going to frontpage, rather than scrolling all the page from 1 to say hundreds (I imagine this thread will get lots of attention).

That's really great derred. I've that in mind for some time but I couldn't do that now because it just my benchmarks for the moment (don't want other people to think this is MY PERSONAL topic ). I absolutely will update the first post with all benchies/specs/etc posted in this site when you and others are starting to contribute. You got your laptop next month eh?

This specific question for laptop gaming is perfectly being asked here. It's a great offer from Dell. Just phone and buy, if you're looking for a dedicated graphic under tight budget. But if you want more style and trendy you should opt an Inspiron 1420 instead (webcam good for gaming clans).

Yeah I'll get my laptop as soon as I can so as for now I pretty much couldn't contribute anything yet. There is new leak pages, that might give some hints. European brand rock or something has launched theirs for orders, and said to be delivered somewhere in December. I haven't yet heard any news from AW. So we'll see. Plus AW will be among the early birds that supply 8800gtx so I pretty have nothing to worry about as for now.

actually I'm looking to get rid of my current rig (as in my siggy) and get a laptop instead. I'm always travel between my home and college in Penang and it is dmn annoying to take the whole rig (speaker.. casing.. keyboard.. LCD etc..etc..) but at the same time I dun wan to miss the performance I'm enjoying with my rig right now

I know its impossible to have such laptops at such a low price but at least I would like to know how much it will cost...

i might get myself a laptop during the coming pc fair... after getting it, i will help in tis thread okie? My budget is quite slim... so might get something around 8400...

You're right. Tight budget laptop gamers should really go for GeForce 8400M GS. Surely it will struggle (or perhaps runs slideshow, just wait for benchmarks later) to deliver playable rates on current demanding hits like Crysis but you know what? Most previous years' hits shouldn't be much of a problem.

Dell Vostro 1400 is best for budget-minded user who doesn't mind a hip lid color customization and silver accent palmrest normally found on Inspiron series for home-centric users. Otherwise it should have the same build like Inspiron 1420, provided you choose the webcam. However, I ain't sure about warranty procedures for Vostro.

You shouldn't fear the design if you're comfortable with fully-black laptop already hehe

Yup, 8800M is not offered from Dell XPS line at the moment. You can only get up to Dual 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT utilizing NVIDIA SLI Technology and AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology processing unit from this XPS line for now.

I received a lemon, which was not anybody's fault. So I got the opportunity "replacement" (don't ask WHY and HOW,cause it is super-long and complicated that we can think of), and have given d opportunity to get the upcoming 8800gtx in 15 incher basically at no cost (for me that is). Yup I said no cost.

m9700 was a great system but sadly it has fail to survive. Rite now I am on a budget desktop (sub-600 usd) but since I get the XFX 8800gt like 2 days ago, it just increase to a 820 usd. Can't wait to get the laptop and sync both together..

How to make the frame rate shown on the screen?

I forgot what was it, but then on the options doesn't it tells us what button for fps rite? I think it's f9 or sumthing like that. I can't remember what was it. But it's the f key.

Get in fraps and it will tell ya on the option. U can change to whatever button u want.

Since they say dedicated memory of the video card is 256 MB , is there a way to increase it using Ram or HD?

I read the RivaTuner link , is it something do with overclock your graphic card?

And can i overclosk my cpu speed?

are u currently on ur SLi-ed 8700m? Please please do not overclock anything. U'll void ur warranty and left with like RM 10,000 paperweight.

Google software name FRAPS. U can monitor frame per second from there. Now that's really a good benchmark indicator if we starting to seeing fps'es on real games; not 3dmarks. 3dmarks could be a raw estimator, but not very specific.

I have yet to find a way to modify NVIDIA shared memory allocation through BIOS. For Intel GMA, this can be done through BIOS. For now I believe current NVIDIA graphics has its own method for sharing memory according to RAM installed. NVIDIA should benefit more from greater amount of RAM installed.

I used RivaTuner only to justify the exact details of my GeForce 8400M GS card (DDR3 version not DDR2). I too don't dare to overclock it because I ain't an overclocker elitist.

My advice: don't try to overclock if you think you're a noob in this just like me. I hate sending my laptop to repairs.
