It's actually a Limited Acer aspire Extreme which only released in UK, got my hands on this laptop during my first years working as a review writer 2 years ago. The mainboard is actually an engineering set with overclocking capability support... nowadays, most of the clock speed are being locked in Bios, only a few high-end models allows tweaking

try update your driver to the latest forceware driver. i find it's quite interesting as most of the latest graphic doesn't support old games:P or aybe you need to find new patches in the websites..

depends which edition of 8600GT. 2 types , DDR2 and DDR3. Both performance are differs about 20-30% because of different core and memory speed. The older 5920G using 8600GT DDR2, but limited to a few batch only after that they changed to 8600GS due to some technical issues which cannot be fix.(i would not reveal here). As for DDR3, this is the actual Mobile GC we are hunting for.

using 8600GT DDR3, you can play crysis max @ medium setting 1280x800 resolution. anything higher than that will give you a framerate <15, not playable. as for creed assasin, i found that this game require a high specs, 8600GT have to struggle very hard in medium-low settings. i even tested on my quadro NVS 320M, running @ medium settings @20 frame/sec, so, also not quite playable at that settings. (NVS320=class 1 G=8700GT) that's why, to enjoy a full gaming experience, an SLI card is recommended for these games.

maybe help a bit in terms of low graphic performance (if your graphic card support hypermemory). 4GB ram will get you about 1024 hypermem, which may improve graphic performance around 5%. (not much). however, it's doesn't help much in medium to high graphic settings because the bottle neck is the graphic transfer rate, core and mem speed.

errr...mine is modded X700 with 256MB ddr...i think your 64MB version cannot handle 1024.768 setting. try 800x400 @ low profile setting...should be able to run around 20fps...still playable. my old lappy still can run up to 40FPS @ medium settings@ 800x600, consider not bad for an old machine..hehe

actually the default forceware is quite a good software itself because it support old and new graphic cards. For notebook's graphic card, you dont really need an optimizer unless you plan to O/C the graphic, which is quite harmful because you're using a stock cooler

the temp is okie @ 67C... although some of the graphic card guild mentioned that max temp is 130C, but the actual max temp you can reach is 80-90C, if you hit that, i would recommend you to get an external cooler.

that's a good temperature... dun worry about overheat problem unless you suffer sudden shutdown of the notebook take care the notebook well by maintainence the HSF yourself every year by just opening up the HSF from the back of the lappy and clean the blades and coppers with a small brush. dust accumulation can cause poor ventilation. good luck everyone.

actually, COD4 is not really a stressful game, my old X700 can run in high resolution mode @ >25FPS, so i think 2400xt shouldn't be a problem. if u wish to test, try to benchmark using crysis or 3Dmark05/06. but generally, i would say 2400XT's performance is almost par with 8600Gs but still below 8600GT.

to answer that is very simple Nvidia IGP 7000 is not a gaming card...that's contribute a bit to the reason why your game is lag. beside that, you should always check your game server and bandwidth, because as far as i know, streamyx is suxs...

Dell bought alienware in year 2006, although it is under dell now, but it is still operating as it's own unit introducing it's own production line.
Alienware sells very powerful and very expensive PCs to the top tier of the gaming market. Dell, on the other hand, has a stronger identity with casual gamers who want a good PC but don't want to pay Alienware prices. Both companies have recently tried to appeal to gamers that fall in between those two groups, with Alienware reaching down and Dell reaching up.
