Went to LYP today to see Asus G1S in action. Well, it was put on action allright but with Need for Speed Carbon ?? WTF !! I asked them why not try just demo with high end games such as Crysis, Bioshock, Unreal Tournament III.....they just put a smiling face at me !! I told them, are you expecting people to buy a 6 grand plus laptop just to play NFS !! Bah !....What a let down.........
*
Yeah, they are always like that.Always use older games to showcase their coms. doh.gif

When I play Gear of War, my laptop lags at certain time lar, upgrading to 4GB RAM will make it better or not?

*
The GoW lag problem is caused by the engine, not your laptop.

GoW will still lag with no matter what com.

Even my bro's C2D with 8600GT also lag once in a while.

hmm... Blizzard dun really like to have graphic killing games... i ve a feeling it needs DX9.0c only.. but who knows...
*
From what i heard recently,Blizzard says that you only need a Ge Force FX 5XXX series or a ATi Radeon 9600 to play SC2.

As long as your GC has Pixel Shader 2,SC2 should work.

Is it true that HD3450 with 256mb better then HD3200 on compaq CQ40?
*
I think a HD3450 would run SC2 on low,at least.

Blizzard is known for making games that run on low end rigs.It shouldnt be a problem for you.

Besides, the game havent been optimised yet.It could be lower,IMO.

Probably we'll wait till open beta to see the system requirements.

Hi guys,

I m wondering whether this thread can help me benchmark games yet to be released...This is becoz I m interested to play 3 future games which is starcraft 2, diablo 3 n red alert 3.. I have no idea when is the release date for the 3 games and it is possible that I might have to get a new laptop b4 any of those games are releases. By that time I will have a headache...

So if an accurate one kenot be done, I hope I can rely on reasonable judgement. I dunno wat graphic card is good enuf n which laptop is good for me.....

Basically I need to know what is the most cost effective laptop for me that enables me to run the 3 games without lag....And plz let me know whether i m a casual or hardcore gamer???? rclxub.gif I m also not too sure whether the Dell XPS 1530 will suits my needs....

Thanks for ur help. Any fruitful comments will be greatly appreciated.  notworthy.gif

If you really need a laptop for gaming now,i think M1530 is sufficient for those 3 games.Im using M1530 now.If not, wait for a Dell laptop with 9600GT,it's coming.

Besides,i was a RA3 beta tester. The beta ended yesterday. The official system requirement for the beta is:

QUOTE
==================================================================
System Requirements
==================================================================

Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 requires DirectX 9.0c. You can
install DirectX 9.0c by following the onscreen prompts during the
game's installation process.

REQUIRED SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS:

?OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit; 64-bit versions of
   Windows Vista are not supported)

   ?CPU: Multi-core or Hyper-threaded

?RAM: 1 GB for Windows XP and Windows Vista

?Video: DirectX 9.0c, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or ATI Radeon X1800
for Windows XP and Windows Vista

?Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card* (Note: For Creative
Sound Blaster Audigy cards running under Windows Vista, Intel
P4 2.6 GHz CPU or equivalent, or multi-core CPU, required)
   *Yamaha Xwave-512 is not supported

?Multiplayer: 2 to 4 players with optional voice support,
network or Internet connection required (Cable, DSL, or faster
   connection)

Note: While you will be able to play Command & Conquer Red
Alert 3 with the specifications above, play experience may improve
if you have additional RAM above the requirement. Please refer
to the section on Optimizing Graphical Performance in this ReadMe
file for more information.

Copy and pasted from the readme. The full game should be slightly higher.Im currently running the game at high, with medium shadows.I'll post some pictures later,if i can.

If you like RTS,i highly recommend RA3.A good game to play while waiting for SC2. thumbup.gif

For SC2 and Diablo 3,i think it should work.Blizzard have stated the graphics requirement for SC2.I have posted it in 1 or 2 pages back.8600GT is enough for SC2.

Another good RTS that is coming is Dawn of War 2,Relic did say that if you can run CoH decently,DoW2 will also work.My M1530 runs CoH on medium to high setting, with some DX10 effects.

Is there a difference in gaming performance between a 5400rpm notebook HDD and a 7200?

Or the increase in RPM will only affect loading time and not fps?
*
I think it's only loading time.

1) I dun really know what is frame per second but I persume the higher the better. I m very unfamiliar with computers so my answer are layman's
answers. My dun lag means as long as it won't affect the gameplay it's good enuf. I do not want all of a sudden I play omg my hero just got killed
by a storm bolt and I dun even know it....

2) Any resolution. I m trying to choose the best laptop for my games...I am not the type that love to see so detailed graphic..Otherwise I would get
    a desktop instead.

3) 8600 GT is within my budget...but 9600 or 8800 is better...i will try to get if I doubt that 8600 could run it smoothly..So thats why i need ur advice
as to not underspend and also not to overspend...
When is the 9600 coming? I know HP got release 2 models with 9600....Got to see the amount...Wah u r a beta tester.......Looks like u do have alot of info abt RA3...How abt posting some of the info to us???
SC 2 is definetely a long wait. Blizzard love to take their sweat time...

Are u sure ur laptop can run Diablo 3??? Just very worried although logically Blizzard games shouldn't be very high requirement..Just need someone to give me assurance...

I know its impossible to benchmark games haven't release yet...But still I need some assurance...Provide more advice...Thx.. rclxms.gif
*
The requirements for both SC2 and D3 should be low. It's Blizzard.WC3 even work on those lousy intel integrated GC.So,SC2 and D3 should have OMFG requirements.Besides,it's one of Blizzard's policy that their games should work on the widest range of hardware while at the same time, giving the high end rig something to show off.

What info do you want about RA3? I tried all 3 factions.Rising Sun is the best. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, this is a short review from me for RA3 beta. It's a bit old but it should give you a general idea on what to expect.Copy and paste from another site that i post it a few weeks ago.

Is it worth it to pay more for a lesser capacity hdd but with higher rpm compared to a slower but more capacity hdd?

Im split between a 250gb 5400rpm hdd and a 160gb 7200 rpm hdd, the faster drive is more expensive by 200 dollars, if i go for the 200gb 7200rpm drive, then its 300 dollars more compared to the slower drive?

Do you think its worth it? Im currently split between 160gb 7200, 200gb 7200 and the 250gb 5400.
*
I think a 250GB 5400rpm is enough.Get 200GB 7200rpm if you have budget for it.

the 160GB 7200rpm isnt really worth it,IMO.160GB is very little.Any modern computers should have at least 200GB.

Cheesenium,

Oh I do have some questions abt RA3. With u as the beta tester, u make me even more excited...

1) Can u provide me a link or info abt all the units in the game? Partly wondering will there be a tesla tank hehehe...

2) Do u have any idea abt the storyline in the 3 campaigns? What happen in the end of all the 3 campaigns?

3) Are there any superweapons in RA3? If yes what are they?

4) Will there be any expansion? Is it still in progress? If there is when will the expansion be release?

5) I have no idea how the Japanese faction is added to the RA3 world..What are the differences between the 3 factions?

That's all for now. I m wondering why u say Japan is d best currently. But I have always like Soviets with their tesla technology...Thx tongue.gif
*
Ok,

1)Unit profiles are here.Well, most of them. You'll get an idea about it.

Not all the old units are there.Mirage and Prism Tank have become one unit.Prim tech is gone and it's replaced with a weaker version call Spectrum.Spectrum still does the same thing as Prism but it's weaker.Still, the strongest Allied unit is not Mirage Tank.Mirage Tank is more like a support Tank.Allied have a carpet bomber like those you see in C&C General.3 of those bombers are enough to take out your construction yard and they are damn tough. To make it worse,it also can para drop units into the field. It's a damn scary unit to see on the battlefield.

The tesla tank is only available in the campaign. You wont see Tesla Tank in skirmish/multiplayer.Still,you got Tesla Coil,Tesla Trooper and Stingray which is an amphibious tesla boat.Quite a lot of Tesla tech.

Japs are all new faction but they got some of the old Allied tech like Cruiser Gun ship.

2)The beta only comes with 4 maps.We didnt have the chance to test for the campaign or the AI.

3)Allied now have a Ultimate superweapon call Particle Accelerator and Chronosphere.PA mainly just dead a lot of damage to units.I only seen it once in the beta.Soviet have Vacuum Bomb and Iron Curtain.Vacuum Bomb basically a bomb that sucks everything into a big piece of crap.I never seen it in action before.Japs have Nano Swarm that form a protective shield on units.Nothing can damage the units inside.I cant remember their ultimate superweapon. It's basically the same.Deals big damage etc.I also never seen it in action before.

In the games i played, superweapon rarely appear because most games are finished before the super weapon come out.Even the game drags long time, people usually dont build it.They rather get T3 units and harass more.

4)I got no idea.RA3 is not out yet la. sweat.gif

5)Japs are basically a new faction that offers a lot of flexibility to their units.Like Mech Tengu,on ground mode,it's anti infantry but when you transform to air mode,it's anti air fighter.Same thing for Chopper VX/Striker VX and Sea Wing/Sky Wing where both units have 2 modes. So,you need to know which mode to use.It just add a layer of decision making.Japs are reasonably strong due to their flexibility. They are mainly inspired from anime and japs culture.

I like to play as Japs because they are different from other factions i played in other games.Still,it's not as innovative as CoH's British or some of the DoW races but playing as Japs has it's own fun.

I would say,it's up to you which faction you like.Soviet is a bit hard for me and Allied is also fun for me.I rarely win with Soviet.IMO,they are the least flexible race like the way they are in RA2 and RA1.

Hi there..i would like to ask a few question regarding mobile GPU. currently my laptop using 9600GT and i've played Crysis wars with 1024X768 resolution with medium setting (mainstream). With high resolution (gamer), there was noticeable lag..i would like to know, with my laptop, i'm planning to play COD4, is it playable? stuttering is very frustrating..second question, my laptop can't run GPU-Z and i don't know what's the problem.is it my laptop or the program itself? thanks in advance.

CoD4 will not have any problem on yours.

What GC do you have on your laptop? If it's a 8600 or 9600,i say you shouldnt overclock your GC.One of the forumers who overclock his 8600GT had GC failure after overclocking.Red lines appear on the screen and artifacts in games.

Therefore,im really against overclocking any laptop's GC.It might void your warranty too and it isnt cheap to own or repair a laptop.

Assuming you get your drivers from laptopvideo.com or something, you need to download the modded inf separately. Then, put it into the folder where you have extract your GC driver.Windows should ask you whether you want to replace a file or not.Click yes and install it.
