This is my new job — I’ve been working here since mid-April, so it’s almost two months now. My working hours are from 6 AM to 4 PM.

Honestly, I’ve been feeling really tired. I usually stay up at night playing on my phone until around 10 PM or 11 PM , and sometimes I don’t even shower until midnight. But I have to wake up at 4:50 AM, so I don’t get enough sleep.

I noticed that if I eat dinner at 7 or 8 PM, I end up sleeping and showering even later. So now I always try to eat at 6 PM. I only realised this after working for about 3 weeks.

Sometimes I feel like I want to escape from reality. This job feels quite different compared to my previous one — there's less space, and more stuff everywhere. It’s not like the servicing job I used to do.

At night, I go on dating apps and chat with people. But every morning when my alarm rings, I regret staying up late.

The 5 AM Club: What Is It And Should You Join?

Waking up at 5 am may seem like a nightmare, but for a growing number, it's the route to a fulfilled life.

Based on a book of the same name, the 5 am club is all about rising early to concentrate on your life goals before the rest of the world wakes up.

This new trend became popular in 2018 when the club’s ‘President’, Robin Sharma, released his book titled ‘

user posted image

The 5 am Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life’.
《早晨5点起床俱乐部:掌控清晨,成就人生》

It’s since become an international bestseller and the concept has become a bit of an online sensation too.

Now, members are soaring. Influencers sing the club’s praises. Life coaches share Sharma’s motivational quotes.

Social platforms are awash with the #5amclub hashtag.
So, given its popularity, it may be time to consider your own 5 am club application.

On my first morning, I got all the wisdom found in Sharma’s book and felt ready to apply it to my own life.

Here are three key ideas I learned from Blinkist’s explainer of The 5 AM Club.

1. You Need to Protect Your Limited Mental Capacity
We all have a limited mental capacity or cognitive bandwidth. And this can easily be taken up with work responsibilities, childcare duties, social media notifications, and all the errands we need to run.

We may have the best intentions to work out or read a chapter of a personal development book each day, but before we know it, our to-do lists have taken over and our cognitive bandwidth has been used up.

Getting up at 5 A.M., and focusing on the things that matter to us first thing without any distractions, stops this from happening.

早上5点起床,先专注于对我们最重要的事情,避免任何干扰,能够有效避免这种情况的发生。

2.

Use Day Stacking to Improve One Skill by 1% Each Day
One hour a day doesn’t sound like much when you want to improve a skill, especially when you only spend 20 minutes of that hour reading and learning.

But Sharma argues that a small amount of daily progress can add up.

This is what he calls “day stacking.”

If you aim to improve a skill by just 1% each day, over a year, these days will stack up and you’ll have improved by more than 300%.

“All change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end.”

Robin S. Sharma.

3. Follow the 20/20/20 Rule

Waking up at 5 A.M. alone won’t transform your life. After all, you could just wake up and spend the extra time on social media or watching T.V. The 20/20/20 rule is what makes Sharma’s morning routine so powerful.

Sharma says you should spend 20 minutes on vigorous exercise, 20 minutes on reflection by meditating and journaling, and 20 minutes on growth by reading and learning.

Sharma提到,您应该花20分钟进行剧烈运动,
20分钟进行冥想和写日记反思,
另外再花20分钟通过阅读和学习来成长。

He recommends this order, but, of course, you can customize the routine to suit your life and goals. The point is you get up early and spend an hour bettering yourself each day.

Take excellent care of the front end of your day, and the rest of your day will pretty much take care of itself.

Own your morning.

Elevate your life.

At the top level, the benefits include **** a reduction of stress***** in the morning,
******improved sleep quality****, and an
****overall happier mood.*****

This my friend is called delayed procrastination

You subconsciously try to have a late night knowing that u have to work tomorow and try to let’s say try to have more time for your self that it affects your sleep

Here is a trick, u need to train your body to sleep early. I used to go to bed at 2 am and wake up at 6am and feel tired and think I should sleep in more but this is not the case. You end up tiring yourself out

Our body has a sleep cycle, light sleep, deep sleep and wake up, if h wake up, do not try to sleep in again. I repeat do not!

This is because the body will go back into this cycle and u wake up feeling even more tired because the cycle isn’t complete and u wake up abruptly due to alarm

This is what my shrink shared, in the end, I train my body to sleep by 11 and auto wake up by 5.30 or sometime earlier so I can work out. I still don’t get 7 hours sleep so I need to refine this further by trying to sleep earlier

You can get a way with lack of sleep when you are young but once hit 40, it will come crashing down on you

I work for an Australian public-listed MNC, and my time is just about the same as you... smile.gif

I commute to nearby KL daily too.

You feel tired because you just started work... You'll get used to the routine soon enough...

To me, starting and leaving work early is a boon because you get to bypass all the jam... Besides that, it's way healthier because you get time off hours to do things with your fam as well as exercising...

I sleep just about 4-5 hours during the weekdays, and I try to catch as much sleep as possible on the weekends btw...

6am to 4pm is ngam2 8 hours including lunch? Better than typical 9am to 6pm.

Also can avoid jam and crowds. Very good. Even if work typical 9am also need to leave earlier to avoid jam, this means makan luar and poop in office.

It is about your regular routine that carried forward.

I also sleep around 11:00 ~ 11:30 pm but wake up at 4:00am every morning, even during weekend. Even though alarm is set at 4am, I usually wake up before the alarm. I do not start work at 6am but around 6:40am I'm already out to work. Work finish at 5:45pm.

Why I sleep at 11pm or 12am

Same thing happened today…
*
Huh how come you work extra 1 hour.

My working time is 7-4.
Yes I ate dinner around 6.30 -7pm
After meal there are ample of time about 3 to 4 hours to get chores done and some workout

Prolly u need to change your lifestyle instead scrolling phones before bedtime

You also work early morning?

I start at 8 but I always wake around 5. A bit earlier if go out for morning jog. Regular day I always do 20 mins stretch, this routine has helped to wake my body up, totally recommend it

I don't do coffee at morning for me it's a recreational drink, I take when I chill at home mostly at night time

My other activity also echo yours. I still scroll phone a lot and sleep at midnight. Earliest I sleep these days is at 11

I work at my own time as I am the boss, but everyday also I woke up 5.30am to prepare my kids for school. I usually sleep at 10.30pm-11pm every night. At lunch, I do take power nap. Switch off everything, sleep for 30min. It does wonder.

Coffee will not help u. I drank americano every morning, double shot. Still sleepy. Caffeine is a drug, u will need more and more everyday as your body adapt to it. I know someone who drink quadshot and still sleepy as hell.

incorporate some exercise in your life. No need gym, 30min brisk walking after dinner is ok already.

Most importantly, u need good quality sleep. REM sleep. As company owner, my brain keep on working thinking about work, even at night when I am sleeping. I even sleep talk about work. So i took something to get me some of that good sleep, but its still a drug, and I dont want to rely much on it.

Anyway that is life. A lot of rich, business owner I know also feel the same way. Some will resort to drug, some goes for sleeping pill, most will drink until they are tipsy then off to sleep.

Take some time off. Go to Thai, have some fun. Our body need reset once in a while. Find something that make u happy.

At the end of the day, we are all human, so chill out.

Now that I am a full-time business owner myself, I agree with this.

I do have a sinus problem, so whenever I have a sinus issue - I won't have a good sleep. That's where I rely on Fedac pills, so my nose are dry and not congested, and I can have a good night sleep. Also I take with moderation knowing the dangers of getting addicted to it one day.

here is my routine

7am-5pm

i woke up around 6am
get ready, then 7am depart from home, sent partner to train as her office is opposite of mine but train close by to her office

reach office around 7.40am, clock -in
return home after fetch partner, around 7pm dy

8pm dinner,
9pm - 11pm play game or watch netflix (to de-stress and temporary forgot about work)

12am-1am sleep trying to sleep

yes i sleep less than 7hr. Yes i'm tired and I'm proud of it.

I dont have much motivation anymore, just come-in work, do my task and go home. Rinse and repeat.

But if change this to something i like, i dont feel tired at all.

My previous work need to wake up 6.45am

And I was very unhappy with that. Everyday wake up feels not enough sleep.

Then I got a better job due to salary huge leap.

This current job I can wake up at 7.30am. I initially thought hell yeah I finally can have enough sleep.

Slowly, still the same. Because it ends up having feeling "I don't have to wake up early anymore so I can sleep late a bit"

So I sleep not enough in the end lol

I especially feel nervous on Sundays,

because Friday night and Saturday are so relaxing (NO need OT also)

On Friday, I sleep late around 1 a.m. and wake up late the next morning.

Even my shower and dinner times are delayed.(not like Mon - Fri)

All of this affects my Monday — I feel tired and it's hard to focus on work.

i think you're at a junction in life.

1. do you want to go all in for this job and risk your golden years?

2. you feel it is just a job so that's why no motivation, then you need to change job or change mindset.

Actually, this job is ok because there’s no night shift.
There is an afternoon shift from 3:00 PM to 12:00 midnight.

I can claim taxi fare every day after finishing at midnight (if the month is afternoon shift)

Last time i work 9am to 9pm/ 9pm to 9am

Because this job involve many small small items, thats why a bit culture shock for me

Last time my job is dealing with big parts

But now I really wake up my brain and accept it

What happens if your circadian rhythm is disrupted?

Maintaining your circadian rhythm is very important to your health. If you experience a circadian rhythm disruption and can’t get an adequate amount of sleep, you may develop certain short-term and long-term health issues.

Short-term circadian rhythm disruptions may result in:

    A delay in healing wounds.
    Changes to your hormones.
    Digestion issues.
    Fluctuations in your body temperature.
    Lack of energy.
    Memory loss.

Circadian rhythm disruptions can lead to long-term health conditions in many different body systems, including your:

    Cardiovascular system.
    Metabolism.
    Gastrointestinal system.
    Endocrine system.
    Nervous system.
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/artic...ircadian-rhythm
*
If your circadian rhythm is disrupted, it can significantly affect your work performance, both in the short term and long term.

---

🔹 Short-Term Effects on Work:

1. Decreased concentration – You may find it harder to focus, leading to more mistakes and reduced productivity.

2. Memory problems – You might forget tasks or instructions more easily.

3. Slower reaction time – You may respond more slowly to urgent tasks or unexpected situations.

4. Mood swings – Irritability, anxiety, or low mood can affect teamwork and communication.

5. Constant fatigue – You may feel tired even after rest, making it hard to stay alert or motivated.

---

🔹 Long-Term Effects on Work:

1. Chronic fatigue or burnout – Ongoing tiredness can lead to mental and physical exhaustion.

2. Increased sick days – A weakened immune system may result in more illnesses, affecting attendance.

3. Poor job performance reviews – Consistent lack of focus or mistakes can impact promotions or job security.

4. Higher risk for shift workers

– Those in rotating shifts (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, security) are especially vulnerable to long-term circadian disruption and its impact on job performance.

QUOTE(plouffle0789 @ Jun 4 2025, 06:08 AM)

I feel super tired and always ask myself why I didn’t just go to sleep earlier.
Why I sleep at 11pm or 12am

Same thing happened today…
*
Skip dinner. So you got more time to "play with your phone". Healthier also to skip dinner.
Set alarm clock. By 9pm must sleep.
Give yourself extra 10 minutes to finish up your stuff.
You should sleep by 10pm.
Wake up at 4am.

If i skipped dinner then I will be very hungry...

If I sleep at 8 PM and wake up at 5 AM,
that’s 9 hours of sleep — should be enough.

You want me to wake up at 4 AM?
Why so early?

To exercise?

I am skinny person so cannot skip dinner.

I took a taxi every morning.

I can claim from company.

In the morning, there are almost no cars on the road.
Those uncles drive like F1 drivers!

It only takes 20 minutes to reach the company(around 20km distance from my house to company)

I woke up at 4:50 AM.
I booked the taxi at 5:20 AM, and it reached the company by 5:45 AM.

So I don’t need to wake up at 4:00 AM.

Eating dinner late mess up your body clock.
It will lead to insulin resistance which is first step for diabetes to happen.
Also eating increases your heart rate making it more difficult to sleep.

We may have the best intentions to work out or read a chapter of a personal development book each day, but before we know it, our to-do lists have taken over and our cognitive bandwidth has been used up.

you should follow this 5am wake up club

get a good smartwatch with sleep tracking, find out when your REM sleeps happen.

For me it happened at 4-5am. So at those time, not optimal to wake up .

you can check the same for you. disturbing REM sleep is what causing you to be tired /sleepy. no use 9 hours sleep but no REM. 6 hours with REM is better.

It sounds like the early wake-up time and long work hours are taking a toll, especially since you're not getting enough rest. The tiredness you're experiencing is likely due to sleep deprivation and a disrupted sleep schedule. To start feeling better, you’ll need to make some changes to your evening routine and sleep habits.

Since you wake up at 4:50 AM, you should ideally be asleep by 9:30 PM to get 7 to 8 hours of rest. Start by setting a wind-down alarm for 8:30 PM to remind yourself to stop using your phone and begin preparing for bed. Aim to be in bed with the lights off by 9:15 PM. Even if you don’t fall asleep right away, lying in bed without screen distractions will help your body relax and transition to sleep.

Using your phone until 10 or 11 PM is likely making it harder for you to fall asleep because the blue light interferes with melatonin production. Try putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb” or “Sleep Mode” after 8:30 PM and leave it to charge away from your bed. Instead of scrolling, do something calming like listening to music, journaling, or simply resting in a dark room.

Showering at midnight is also delaying your ability to go to sleep. Try moving your shower to earlier in the evening—ideally right after dinner or soon after you get home from work—so you don’t push your bedtime later unnecessarily.

Establishing a consistent sleep routine is key. Even on weekends, try to go to bed and wake up within an hour of your weekday schedule. This keeps your internal clock regulated and makes it easier to get up early without feeling groggy.

Additionally, getting natural light in the morning can help reset your internal clock and improve your sleep quality. Try stepping outside for a few minutes after waking up. In the evening, dim your lights and use warmer lighting to signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.

If you begin implementing these changes—even just a few at a time—you should start noticing a significant improvement in your energy, mood, and focus within a week. Let me know if you’d like help building a more detailed daily or weekly routine based on this.

You are sleeping too much.
That's why you feel more tired.
Your body is frequently in a state of inactivity.

When you get off work, go do exercises for 60 to 90 minutes.
Take dinner at 7pm and sleep at 10 to 11pm.
You only need 6 to 7 hours sleep.

Another thing to do is to follow the same sleep and wake up cycle even on your non-working days to condition your mind and body.
Over time it will be automatic.

3 PM – 11:59 PM

They also have two job shifts.

Maybe my company has some connection with them.

Whether you are skinny or fat, fasting help to keep you healthy.
Also when you fast, you get extra time to do play with your phone (not productive)
Also not good to eat dinner after sun have set.

You need to eat dinner, maybe a light dish like mee sup or kicap dish, and not heavy food like curry or oily food because spicy food and spices will mess up your stomach and digestion since you're aiming to sleep earlier. Take a low-carb meal with meats, and don't go to sleep fully empty.

I sleep with empty stomach. You cannot eat and sleep cause when you eat and sleep your HR won't come down. You need low HR for good sleep. Go check out Bryan Johnson.

I feel super tired and always ask myself why I didn’t just go to sleep earlier.
Why I sleep at 11pm or 12am

Same thing happened today…

Book early is good, but your main problem is sleep late.

Scrolling phone is a no no at night. Especially if you watch tik tok. The shorter the video the more dopamine got released.

Too much dopamine can affect your mental health.

That’s a bless to work between 6 am and 4 pm, same hours as me! In my previous job, I used to work a rotating shift every two weeks from 9 am–6 pm, then 12–9 pm for 5 years. Now, I’m more productive. I can workout after work, enjoy time with my family, and we all shut down by 9 pm.

A few times a week, I also do morning cardio at 5 am on top of my three gym days. My advice is to use those extra daylight hours to invest in something truly meaningful to you personally and grow it. Can be relationship, side business, self improvement and many more.
Good luck to you!

Your body will adapt sooner or later and become routine. No need alarm clock. How much rest you body needed depends on your work or how exhausted you are. If more physical then probably longer resting hour. I mentioned last time I sleep around 11.00 to 11.30pm and still wake up at 4am. Coming back from work if traffic is bad will reach around 7pm.

When I worked in the US, the work hour is flexible. you just need 8 hour working time. I started at 5am and went back at 2pm. No traffic jam laugh.gif Many technicians work at that time. Well admin people has to follow office hour though laugh.gif
