QUOTE(atah @ Oct 2 2009, 05:03 PM) any idea on the differences between these 2 cards? do they get to enjoy the benefits of amex gold charge card? The one on the left with Maybank logo on top will earn Treatpoints and for every RM1 charged you will be given 2TP. The one of the right is a true American Express Gold credit card and you will earn Membership Rewards Points instead of Maybank Treatpoints. You can check out the Membership Rewards online catalogue in AMEX Malaysia official website. You will earn 5MR for every Ringgit charged when you spend at selected stores (**Certain supermarkets, Petrol and Bookstores) and 2MR for all other transactions. |

QUOTE(atah @ Oct 2 2009, 05:03 PM) any idea on the differences between these 2 cards? do they get to enjoy the benefits of amex gold charge card? I have both. What I call it.Left is MBB Amex Gold Credit Card. Has Maybankard name/logo on top. Right is Amex's Amex Gold Credit Card. Difference: 1) MBB Amex earns TP. Amex's Amex earns MR. 2) Amex's Amex autopay can earn 5x with TM and Maxis postpaid. Also, 2x with TNB. Can't do it with MBB Amex for autopay. 3) MBB Amex not free for life. Amex's Amex is free for life. 4) TP can combine with MBB Visa/Master to redeem. MR is separate catalogue, except during annual treatpoints fair. 5) MR can redeem 200 points = RM1 , so called cash back. Similiarities: 1) Both earns 2x points 2) Both has credit limit, unlike charge card. 3) Both statement bills can settle through online M2u from MBB savings/current a/c. Now, I'm solely using Amex's Amex. Will redeem MBB Amex points and cancel it next year. |

You rarely use it or what ?QUOTE(atah @ Oct 2 2009, 05:50 PM) how about the amex benefits? is it applicable for both? Yes. Both are under the program American Express Selects that gives you discount at select stores/restaurants etc.This post has been edited by MilesAndMore: Oct 2 2009, 05:55 PM |

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Oct 2 2009, 05:51 PM) Surprise ? No lah. I've been using MBB Amex for 3 yrs plus regularly for 2x TP. What I don't like is the annual fee.Amex's Amex offers the same 2x points (MR). To me, Adv for Amex's Amex as compared to MBB Amex: 1) Autopay 2x and 5x 2) Free for life 3) Can redeem 200 pts = RM1 Disad: 1) Cannot combine with my MBB Visa to redeem TP 2) Not all merchant accepts Amex. |

Now, I solely use Amex's Amex as MBB Amex replacement. One free day, I will redeem all MBB Amex TP and cancel it by next year. |

@cute_boboi
I would like to comment on your post that Maybank AMEX AF is waived if you spend average RM500 a month in a year. All you need to do is call them up to ask for AF waiver... |

QUOTE(guanteik @ Oct 2 2009, 07:37 PM) @cute_boboi Having to call them sounded like begging to me so personally, I will just cancel it and get the truly free AMEX version instead.I would like to comment on your post that Maybank AMEX AF is waived if you spend average RM500 a month in a year. All you need to do is call them up to ask for AF waiver... Many years ago, I canceled my AMEX charge card because it is really not convenience to use with many merchant not accepting or they will ask you for other cards instead. Recently thought of giving it another go and got the AMEX Gold CC. Same story so the thought of canceling comes to my mind again. If not for the MR points, I would have done it already. |

To my disappointment, NONE that I approach will accept it. Not GE, not AXA, not Prudential. Almost wanted to cancel the card right there and then.Furthermore, even with merchants accepting the card, I heard too many times this question "Do you any other card?" @MilesAndMore : And I've been to quite a number of places that don't take Amex, which is a real bummer =(
@Optiplex330 : Yea, considering these insurance companies are pretty large, it's annoying that they don't accept amex. I've also gotten that statement now and then, and I usually reply "no" =p (or when I'm feeling honest, I'll just say I prefer to pay with my Amex) |

And I experienced it a few times yesterday alone, at a local pharmacy, hair salon and car workshop. |
