yes, you are right they will charge RM5 for printed statement. In the application form it is mentioned that statement will be email to cardholders. So no problems if no M2U.
*
And since this AMEX Gold Credit Card is issued by American Express, we can view the statement online via www.amexmalaysia.com.my. We do not have to depend on Maybank to email the montly statement to us or via www.maybank2u.com.my.

Ok back to AMEX topic but on CC.

I applied for the AMEX Gold CC today. Went to Maybank branch to drop my cheque for my charged card and picked up the application form for Gold CC but did not fill the form on the spot since wanted to get my wife a supp.

Then read in CC thread that one needs to have Maybank account, this was not stated in the application form nor was it in the AMEX's website but was stated in Maybank's website.

So I called this number 603-22958877 and they confirmed don't have to be a maybank account holder and I can just fax the application form to them with just a photocopy of my credit cards and no need submit the other troublesome documents. Faxed in the application to AMEX about lunch time. Wonder how long it takes to get it approved and want to see if the credit limit given to me will me higher or lower than my Charged Card (oh yes, there is a credit limit for charged card too).
*
According to my last experienced with AMEX, approval could take no longer than a week if you have an existing cards with them. And yes, fax in application is much more quicker than drop an application form at the branch.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

For AMEX Charge card issued by MBB, we only can view the statement through AMEX website?

While for AMEX Credit card issued by MBB, we can view it through MBU & AMEX website?

Are my statement correct?

Amex Gold Credit Card is issued by Maybank but its under AMEX. I " guess " it works just like our plat credit card where only can view the statement in M2u web site.

I have the Kris Flyer gold card and plat credit card, both accounts only can be view at M2U web site.

Maybank bought over AMEX biz in Msia in Aug 06 hence making Maybank to sole issuer for all AMEX products from charge, credit, corporate, corporate purchasing & meeting cards.

Charge card statement can be viewed via their website.
Credit card can only be view via M2U which is also good coz u can make payment immediately.

For those who doesn't have M2U but holds AMEX credit card then i dunno. Maybe wait for statement.

Finally received my amex laptop bag =)

And yea, I think for the credit cards you need to go through M2U. If you really have an amex credit card no other maybank accounts, probably you could still sign up for M2U? unsure.gif

The newly launched AMEX Gold Credit Card is issued by American Express.

Eh ? i thought we can view all credit card/charge card issued by Amercian Express itself (exclude all those co-branded AMEX) statement via www.amexmalaysia.com.my ? Just that we need to register ourselves at AMEX Malaysia website ? No ?

@MilesAndMore,
Only Charge card statements can be viewed via Amex website, otherwise it's tied to M2U.

Isn't Amex operation in M'sia taken over by MBB? This cc should be issued by MBB then. Regardless of who the issuer is, we are more concerned for benefits offered by this Amex cc. biggrin.gif

It has been mentioned before, the bank add's an additional 2.5% as admin fees on top of your transaction.

Now ... after you get that number, whatever you spend will be converted to MYR based on the bank's forex rate. Forex rates changes on a daily basis and it is not stated on the bank's website, best if you use xe.com just to give you a guide and to complicate it slightly (I believe), you will be charged based on the rates for the posted date and not the transaction date. (Transaction date = actual date and Posted date = when the merchant claims)

AMEX is the most expensive for overseas spendings vs normal cc admin rates.

Maybank Berhad owns the rights to American Express Malaysia. It is more like a franchise operation i guess. While Maybank had paid American Express a sum of money when they took over all American Express business here in Malaysia back in 2006, i believe Maybank Berhad still need to pay American Express a royalty fee every year. Just like those hotel chains such as Hyatt, Hilton and Sheraton which is more common smile.gif

Although Maybank owns the rights to American Express, these two are still considered as separate entities. Any cards issue by Maybank itself will bear the "Maybankard" name while those issued by American Express will only bear the name of American Express.

The monthly statement of the American Express credit card/charge card is also prepared at different places. The Maybank AMEX Classic/Gold credit card and Maybank Ikhwan AMEX Gold/Platinum statements are sent out from Maybank HQ in Kuala Lumpur while the AMEX Personal/Gold/Platinum charge card (and i believe the AMEX Platinum credit card and soon the AMEX Gold credit card too) are sent out from the American Express regional office in Hong Kong.

Not sure about VISA and Mastercard but for AMEX, let say that you charged HKDxxxx or AUDxxxx to your AMEX, the HKDxxxx/AUDxxxx will first be converted into US$, then only after that they will convert it back to MYR.

wah...sounds like the new amex gold credit card is only good for local transactions, without the 2.5% admin fees and currency conversion at expensive rates

Well, MBB sent me Amex gold charge card last month although I didn't apply for it. At the back of this card, it reads like this: THIS CARD IS ISSUED BY MBB PURSUANT TO A LICENSE FROM AMEX. I believe MBB took over operation of Amex in M'sia by contributing a contract fee and incentive fee to Amex. MBB owns the rights to operate it with the license from Amex.

With this, I think the monthly statements of all Amex cards in M'sia are sent out directly from Amex office owned by MBB in M'sia, don't need to go through its regional HQ in Hong Kong.

Pertaining to overseas transactions, the foreign currency is first converted to USD, before the USD is converted back to RM. In the event that it involves two conversions, the 2.5% commission charge is only applied to the 1st conversion from foreign currency to USD.

Hmm received my statement at the end of May, and got my laptop bag mid June, roughly speaking. Can't remember the exact date I got the statement, but the bag I think was 17th of the month (while I was away on holidays) laugh.gif

The statement for my charge card came by air mail, with the whole "postage paid - hong kong" on the top right. The undelivered address is a Hong Kong address as well

@jutamind,
Act, the conversion for forex on Amex is like this:-

Foreign Currency --> USD --> RM

Unless your purchases are made in USD then it's converted straight to RM otherwise there'll be 2 conversions made; into USD and then only into local currency.

The 2.5% administrative charges still applies.
