I watch the Taking of Pelham 123 last week.
Pro: A good storyline plus cool actor (Denzel Washington, John Travolta) Con: I don't like the ending (Hero always win) This post has been edited by apis_jay: Aug 5 2009, 11:49 AM |

QUOTE(greyshadow @ Aug 5 2009, 11:08 AM) watch Ponyo On the Cliff by the Sea last night I like it too. Another Miyazaki film to watch with the family is Totoro. Porco Rosso and Naussica are his other lesser known films but great ones.10/10 rating from me a really heart warming animation by Hayao Miyazaki, best watch together with the whole family. 100% will put a smile on every one. |

Coco Avant Chanel
the early years of coco chanel (audrey toutou), the radical fashion icon that almost single-handedly transformed the world of fashion. it's title basically translates to coco before chanel, which is quite an accurate portrayal of the movie. but the tagline and the trailer threw the audience off. we were fed with the idea of a film portraying how coco rises in the world of fashion in the early 20th century, her motivation, passion and eventually how she changed the world. but it doesnt. the film is quite 2-dimensional. it's a love story of how coco began her life in an orphanage and eventually as a cabaret singer. she wanted to make a name as either a singer or an actress, became a mistress to someone whom she thought could realize her dreams but didnt, fell in love with a foreigner only to be heartbroken, and suddenly the film skips to her becoming famous. i was like... WTF? 5/10 |

I just watched "the Mist". A movie based on Stephen King's novel. Damn, it was a very scary movie. People are scared. people are desperate. People did a terrible decision when they think the got it right. People did something good but turn out to be something terrible.
It has a very sad ending, but i recommend you to watch it for those who don't. Great storyline. Great actor/ess. CGI's were good. The director know how to scare people at the very perfectly timing. The director knows how to make the actor/ess looks scared and desperate. Dude, if it was you, were you dare enough to help the victim? This post has been edited by maxizanc: Aug 6 2009, 04:12 AM |

The Ugly Truth
almost feminist individualistic TV producer meets misogynistic TV presenter only to find that opposite do attract. it's a romcom. if u love katherine heigl and gerard butler, u dont wanna miss this. i think both of them delivered their characters perfectly, and the story really illustrates the strength and weakness of each character. this leads to an unlikely alliance between two absolutely contrasting characters, but eventually both succumbed into an intolerable urge to snog each other. it has every single element u can find in other romcom films. but it was brilliant done, the dialogues were witty and engrossing, the jokes were laced with every form of sexual connotations yet not over the top. it's a very enjoyable movie. 6/10. Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince
8.5/10 Half Blood Prince is one of the best summer movies this year if not the best. The cinematography and the acting in this movie are top notch. Some have complained that the scores composed by Nicholas Hooper are not as memorable as the previous scores but it blends in with the scenes really well. The movie itself is very well-balanced with teen romance/humor & dark drama. David Yates definitely had succeeded in making a movie that makes us feel like riding a roller coaster. The viewers' had their ups and downs emotionally (laughed and cried at appropriate/intended moment). NOTE: IMO the only problem that this movie is facing is lack of action sequences. Quite a number of people have said this is the most boring Potter film in the series, so if you are looking for pure fun/popcorn flick/100% action-packed movie then HBP is not for you. |

During the weekend, managed to catch the following...
The Mummy Trilogy (BD) The Mummy - Fun and entertaining movie. Magic, Thrills and Sand. Good fun. The Mummy Return - Terrible history reference of ancient Egypt but still a passable movie. Pygmy Mummy.... okay... The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - oh dear. Looks like the money Brendan Fraser had made is at an all time low, for him to comeback to the franchises in this bad BAD movie. The only people who had the good sense of NOT coming back are Stephen Sommers and Rachel Weisz. What was Jet Li and Datuk Michelle Yeoh think!!? And it is rumored that Rob Cohen (the director of the third) is talk about The Mummy 4: Rise of the Aztec.... Run for the hills (that ALL I can say) |

I think it is the BAD reference to history that gets to me for Mummy 2 & 3.Example In The Mummy 2, the Bracelet of Anubis was created during The Scorpion King's time... which was WAY (thousand plus years off) before the The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Temple of Karnak and The Temple of Abu Simbel were built, but interestingly, Alex wearing the bracelet was shown all this buildings as markers.... The Mummy 3, pointing the way to Shangri La, they had to use a blue diamond. The Chinese doesn't revere diamond, they revere Jade or Pearl. It would have been more correct if they use a luminous pearl (a pearl that glows in the dark) as a pointer for Shangri La rather then a diamond, and everything they use for The Emperor (Qin Shi Huang Ti) was just.... off?? (Master of the Five Elements indeed!!?). Also once they were AT Shangri La, they didn't explorer it???????? I really hope that that 4th movie DOESN'T get made. Really!! The Hangover.
Thought it was very entertaining, not as vulgar as I thought it'll be though. The cast was alright, but they should have gotten like Vince Vaughn, etc to strengthen the male bonding and the comedy movie as a whole. I still rate I Love You, Man as the best comedy of 2009, yet to see Apatow's Funny People. 3.5/5 This post has been edited by Makakeke: Aug 11 2009, 12:28 PM |

Departure (Japanese movie)
9.5/10 Really good movie, never know a movie about managing dead body can be so nice and emotional a bit.. Ice Age 3 - Dawn of The Dinosaurs 7.5/10 Not as funny as the previous two but still managed to get me laugh Flakes 9.5/10 Love this movie, enhanced my knowledge about cereal and its history. IMO, the heroine looks like Katy Perry The Last House On The Left 8.5/10 Good story but can be better if the ending was different. |
