WAS a UCSI student for 1.5 years, and honestly....Totally despise it. I will not bash the lecturers this time as there are different opinions from different students, and it might be unfair to those good ones. But there's one thing, UCSI should take ENGLISH into consideration when hiring lecturers instead of just looking at their certs.

Africans? Plenty, but not 85% I would say 30%, which is still a lot for a local private institution. The quality of the facilities? There may be a lot of computers in the lab, but how fast is the connection? The gym is the only one that I can say, okay for a Malaysian private institution as not many colleges or university college can provide such facilities. The lecture rooms are always too small. Car parks are too limited but again, no other colleges can provide cheap parking space. Worst of all, as a University College, they can't even provide a decent library; it opens from when to when again? Is it 7pm or 8pm? That's a joke. What if students want to study till late night? Why not at least open a space or a room for students to be able to study till at least 12am?

Okay there are however some good points about the school though, such as the lecture theatres and the gym. I'm trying to be as neutral as possible now.

Hi..i m a scholarship student as well..it's not any hard job that u hv to do..the staff in Students Affairs Office will alocate you to certain department(in fact, u can choose it urself),e.g: Lab, library, finance office or watever, then u jz have to go there & look for ur your staff in charge (known as our supervisor), then u jz hv to do the jobs such as typing, filing, photostating, calling, printing, & watever they need ur help.It's more like office job..as for if u choose lab, then u jz hv to go there to clean up the lab.

All these jobs are calculated per hour..we need to finish 65 hours per long semester or 35 hours per short semester..
Long semester = 4 months.
Short semester = 2 months.

Is it clear? Anything can ask me..

A lot of local private institutions in Greater KL have a huge population of Africans in most cases at least 50% are Africans

Does anyone here enrolled into the International Degree Pathway(IDP)?
What is the requirements for STPM leavers? and how about the fees?
Is biomedical science course being conducted there in UCSI?..I'm asking this, cuz, i noticed they parner with some unis for biomedical science course too.

was one of the IDP students, but never transfer through it. Had plenty of bad thoughts about it.

Facilities is very good at the new campus (cos you paid high tution fees for it). Lecture well there are new lecturers that just come in recently for the new semester and i already graduated so can't really comment. Generally ok, there are bad ones but there are good ones as well. I believe there is no university with 100% good lecturers. As a university student you should know they are not there to "feed" you anymore, good or bad still depends on your own studying attitude.

It is recognise by LAN but not so sure with BEM. The 1st batch which is us are still in the middle of processing to obtain that. Just a little tips- working for MNC or any local private companies like Intel, Motorola does not concern whether your degree recognise by BEM or not. Results earns you your interview, interview outcome earns you the job. Knock yourself out unless you want to work related to the government.

Overall, if you can pay the fees to study in UCSI, i would recommend to go UK to study their ECUK recognise 3+0 programme. If ECUK recognise, BEM for sure must recognise course they follow that standard. Differences is you pay the same amount of fees, but in 4 years at UCSI. 3years in UK provided you work part time to cover the living expenses there.

In conclusion, studying Engineering in Malaysia and pay over 40-50k is just not worth it. You deserved better when you pay that much.

FUture engineering students.Not all engineering courses need to be recognized by BEM.Only a few of the majors really need BEM recognition.

UCSI is a good school for biomed /pharmacy/food science/nursing/music.
Mass comm,i would recommend Taylor's / HELP
Engineering>Taylor's / KBU / Apiit

To your add-on and the other guy, you won't get kicked out because you made a mistake. You are only human. Heck, you can even drag the work onto the next semester and get away. I have done that many-a-time. Why?! I would like to concentrate on my life and studies during the semester especially if I am taking 5 subjects and then work at UCSI during the holidays where we won't have to compete for work, if you know what I mean. BTW does anyone find it annoying that the college has these RUDE security guards asking students for their IDs? I'm writing a letter to Mr. Kit about this.

Library closes at 7 or 8. Yes, unfortunately but you can't expect people NOT to go home. Yes, scholarship students will have to work but AFAIK, it's not only UCSI who has this policy. You might want to check on this with other colleges. I do feel short handed as I thought scholarships were GIVEN and not in exchange for your work but look on the bright side, you'd have working experience that would be listed in a certificate that could count in your ceevee (well at least according to the Student Affairs people lah).

As for Acc and Finance, what do you mean quality? It's hard for me to judge as I haven't been to other colleges but I wish I could find a better one lah though I can't afford a pricier *cough* better*cough* college.

I can't answer 1 - 4 but for 5), most people choose to live in the Hostel for one semester to familiarize with the surroundings and gather 3 to 4 friends in the Hostel to then RENT an appartment in Angkasa condominiums nearby where the shared rental is much cheaper than what you pay for the Hostel.

Lab work is very repetitive and unless you are a student in the school (engineering or SASA), I don't really recommend it. Helping your own school has its quirks lah - you get to make friends with your lecturers and help them with stuff. In turn, should you have any queries or difficulties, you know lah.

Yes, upgrading to University level, hence the influx of new lecturers and bigger departments and separation of classes from Diploma and Degree level. Yes, I can still blame them because they should learn how to be courteous instead of shouting "Huey, ID?!" Imagine if a parent or visitor were on the receiving end of that? And you telling me that UCSI should only bother about the security once it reaches University level?!

I can assure you, those people around me, they speak only Cantonese or Mandarin. If they do try to converse in English, I can assure you that, there will be elementary grammar mistakes in each and every sentences that comes out from their mouth.

Like some of my friends, back in UCSI, who can't speak decent English at all and I do mean literally, perhaps you may find that unessential because of mindsets like: "Aiyah, I speak he understands, can d what.". But, we as undergraduates, who in the future may be working for big companies like Ogilvy, HP, IBM, etc. and can't even converse decently with Manglish, how are you gonna gain any respect from your employers or customers? And would you be proud to call yourself an undergraduate?

As for kobe08bryant, what happened to your article or whatever that you promised to write after Friday lar, how many weeks already?

I am mass comm. final year student, about the fees, the marketing people said it could be RM 37,900, almost RM38,000 for the whole programme. In year 1 and year 2, the fees are roughly in RM 3k to RM5k per semester, but when you are in the final year, it might be RM7k and more. It depends on how many subjects you take per semester, the amount are different every semester.

Added on May 23, 2008, 3:52 pmI think most probably the accomodation provided by UCSI will be charged by the rates which they charge for hostel price, i dont really know. The private stay is roughly RM200 to RM300 per month. It depends on how much the whole unit cost, plus utility fees and internet services are extra charge. If empty houses, i think the lowest should be RM750 for the whole unit with 3 bedroom which you can rent it to other ppl, for fully furnished, i think the rate will be around RM1k to RM1.2k per month exclude the utility fees. The utility fees will be around RM200 to RM300 per month per house. (electric RM 100+/-, water RM50+/-, internet RM110+/-) It can be share with 4 to 5 ppl per unit, so i think it will be cheaper than the UCSI provided accomodation. UCSI one, i think you just pay to UCSI, but private one you need to pay the utility bills every month by yourself in the post office there. I think that would be the difference of staying private or ucsi. Another thing is that, i think UCSI will divide at least one international student per unit. if sharing, should be on one local, one international, single room might be slightly more expensive than the twin sharing.

my cuz was a pharmacy student there before she transferred to Curtin. Try going for somewhere further if you don't mind walking or if you have a car, the rent might be lower.

i studied my diploma at Stamford KL...after grad,then change to UCSI..bcz vr near from my hse..haha...many ppl will choose UCSI bcz it is near..cz others Campus all vr fall from those who stay in KL area...=p..Erm...i thk every Universities or colleges also the same..got good and bad...and i vr agree wf my mum's friend..he said that the student alwiz complaint that their university or college not good 1..haha..this is true..=p

for me UCSI not bad de..but some of the lecturer really suckie lar...n not friendly at all compare wf my previous college...some are good n helpful....=)

Honestly speaking, I am not a person who complains a lot, and just to make myself clear, I have been to 2 different private colleges back in Malaysia, and I have only complain about UCSI.

I am in VUW, Vic Uni in Wellington, no problem, no qualms.

I can understand your optimism guys, but a real university isn't only about giving you a degree. It is the campus experience that matters, opps....isn't that UCSI's motto? Paying heaps of money for an internship? Which is compulsory every year?

yes. means i need not get too many formal clothes.a friend of mine is getting a lot of formal clothes.

short sleeve enough la some even wear jeans and t-shirt with slippers

jeans with t-shirt with a pair of shoes is ok with me.

i saw a lot wearing shorts and slippers when i went for my interview that day.

i suppose we can say that ucsi is not strict with the dress code.

September got intake too..

i called ucsi. they said there's only two intakes per year for architecture. Jan and june.

I thought there is september intake too. which is why i took it for granted and delayed until now.

might have to miss some classes if i join in june though... class starts on the 10th.

it's a bit too soon. i'm still working and i can't leave immediately.

my sister's friend do told her that some oversea lecturer do not speak understandable english due to the heavy slang they had.

i do encounter one during my interview. it is like my brain is only able to process few words and have to start guessing the rest of the sentence to understand what he just said.

I am an e&e engineering student in UCSI. I'm in year 2 now. It is an average university i can say. For me, it doesn't matter much. It all just depends on self-study/research. I just want to complete my studies in the best cost and easy transport 2 and fro home. Most important is the job in future. Can i cover back my 50k-60k course i spent now or even earn more? =)

you are kind of late in applying i suppose but if you are serious about ucsi. please do it before the public University result is released.

many people are still holding their offer as they wanted to wait for public University. so be fast.

expect group interview. few people vs few people. this is provided that someone is applying pharmacy also.anticipate the questions they will ask during interview. some common ones are introduce yourself, why you choose pharmacy and so on.

for the chemistry exam, read about titration(will be filling the blanks on it) and really basic stuff(objective on sp2,sp3, funtional groups). cant really remember much about it . but expect around 15minutes test only.
i heard the test is the same for all batches. dont flame me if they changed the questions asked.

i would say money return is matter of time but if you dont get a degree, you might not have a bright future.

A degree is so easy to get nowadays. There are so many degree holders out there. A degree of coz is a must of course to get you started in your choice field of job. The difference between degree holders is their ability to work with others,creativity, communications skills etc. and others which will be evaluated in interviews. Your university results depends on you, not the university, and your future does not only depend on your degree. A good or expensive university does not guarantee you in your own completion of degree. That's my point.
