For those who are interested in pursuing a degree in IT/Computing at UCSI please think twice...

I've just been through it and I am sharing all that I've been through for the past 3 years...

Let me point out all findings that i have:

- Outdated

- UCSI offers Oracle for their database subjects but they are still currently teaching on Oracle 9i while most companies are already using Oracle 11g...

- Unorganized

- UCSI offers lots of subjects such as SAD, UML, OOM and so on but the Faculty never discussed and direct their lecturers on what they should teach in those classed, at the end of the day you'll find that all you've been learning the same things over and over again.

- Not Moderated

- UCSI lecturers allocate marks for examination and assignments according to students, not according to effort and quality of work.

-Lecturers are not up to standard

- Some or we can say MOST of the lecturers in UCSI's IT school are not qualified to teach in a university at all.
- For Example:
- Database lecturers DO NOT know how to install ORACLE on XP...
- Database lecturers DO NOT how to implement things that he/she taught into coding for example TRIGGERS... They will get you to go home and find out yourself and share it with them when you've found the solution.
- Lecturers DO NOT know how to teach or too lazy to TEACH and therefore COMMANDS the student to go home and find information on certain stuff and present it in class every week... End of the day all you've learn is what you have found out from the internet... how many % is true... you would never find out...
- Lecturers USE their students to do their work... There are several lecturers who would give assignments that is not relevant towards the subject requirement... the lecturer who does that will not guide the student on how to do the work and will ask the students to go home and find out because he/she don't know how to do it.... finally students are forced to seek for help from seniors or friends... After submission you will find out that the lecturer is actually collecting data for his/her own PHD project...
- Lecturers give marks according to sex... Females would normally get higher marks than Male even if the submitted work is exactly the same...
- Database lecturers do not have any relevant certification towards database technology except the fact that they've been through the course (but without taking the examinations). Come on... we also been through the course after taking the subject ok? Does that mean we can also teach Database?? of course no la...
- Prior completion of your final year project, you will find lecturers requesting you to write an article and submit to them... the purpose of doing this?... UCSI lecturers get increment by posting up articles (suppose to be their own research and written by themselves)...
- Lecturer just copy and paste lecture notes from previous lecturers or the internet and have no knowledge of what they are talking about. For example... This is a class diagram bla bla bla... (reading from the lecture notes) student ask a question... "sir what is a class diagram for?" the lecturer : "thats a good question... why don't we do this as an assignment? everyone go home and find out about it and tell me next week"
- The marking system is not standardized... for example there are several cases where final year project students get very low marks although their report and product is significantly better than those that scored higher marks... the marks depend solely on the mood of the lecturers.... and if or not your work is beneficial towards what they need for their own research...

I'll stop here for the moment to go back to work... will return with more details tonight... feel free to give opinions...

THIS THREAD Refers solely to the Faculty of Management and IT (IT Division)...

@yyee

searching for rooms is still a little early but but it is better that you go down yourself to angkasa..

and do not wait until last minute. the most by april you should go down and get a room.

july intake is huge and normally demand for rooms are high at that time

Added on January 6, 2009, 7:29 pmand do not apply for off campus accomodation (that 1 under ucsi )

can some1 share their experiences of taking food science in ucsi? eg. syllabus, lecturers quality, lab, facilities, recognition, etc. izi ucsi the best uni for food science in malaysia?
*
Syllabus are fine, i guess it's much better than local uni's.
Lecturers depends. Some are great, some are just plain lousy.
Only recognized in Msia unless u go overseas during ur 3rd yr.
Nope, UCSI is not the best. It's not recognized at all, i mean in msia yes la, but not in overseas.

Btw, Anyone joining Will Group?

Free tuition for any subjects u are weak in.
Just fill up a form in Students Affiar Dept, level 3.
As of now, it's totally free.

Tutors are qualified seniors, mostly are scholarship students. smile.gif

ps: u can get tips, notes, lab reports and assignment tips from seniors.. thumbup.gif
