I find OLED acceptable if your living room is dark. My house has a lot of natural lighting coming into my living room during daytime, OLED is a nightmare as it is just not bright enough. In the end I ended up purchasing another mini LED for my living room. OLED move to upstairs hall.

If it is recent OLED tv since 2021 models, I find the brightness is not too bad already. Not perfect but acceptable.

The high contract really can make the the image looks a lot nicer even for YouTube or free air channels content, so I personally find that it is worth to sacrifice the brightness (which to me is at acceptable level now) for better picture quality.

Agree on the contrast, it's unmatchable. I am using A80K. It's getting dimmer and dimmer (maybe placebo effect) even my wife complained about it, so I had no choice but to move upstairs. Maybe my living hall is just too bright. Not sure panel issue or what, but since it's already over the 2 years warranty I wouldn't bother to ask Sony to come check.

yes, once used OLED TV, very difficult to go back to LED. I find mobile phone/tablet not so much a prob for OLED vs LED, still acceptable maybe becos the screen is smaller and maybe apple LED display is much superior than normal brands.

mine is A80J. by right A80K given it is a successor model, it should be 8 to 12% increased in brightness for HDR content. technically it should be slightly more acceptable than mine even. haha.

i had used my A80J for almost two years (left 13 more days to the expiry date of the warranty), so recently had been using the TV significantly often just to ensure the TV is really in good condition before warranty expired. Need to check that all the ports, hdmi, usb etc. are working as well and the screen has no issues for dead pixels, bright dots, burnt-in etc... so far so good.
if after warranty was over, just to ask them to come to check, already need to pay money.

i think depending on ur usage, panel gets dimmer and dimmer is actually a norm for OLED, but it should happen maybe only after 3 to 5 years and it should be minor at start. Quite strange if two years only u already experienced it. maybe panel really has prob. did u use ur TV significantly frequent than usual over the past 5 years? e.g. one year more than 5 hours that kind?

I thought the Samsung's OLED panel is from LG no?
*
Samsung display makes QD-OLED panels. LG display makes WOLED panels. I believe the new S85F is using WOLED panels outside NA but I could be wrong.

Yup. Sony QD-OLED models of TVs also use samseng’s panels.

While the rest of OLED models use LG one.

But although using third party panels but the tuning magic by Sony makes its own models stand out from their suppliers..

Icic. Then not bad at least. Bigger screen size of 85-inch the experience is also superb.

Yeah, bigger, definitely gives better experience. I have stopped going to cinema since then
! Wish I could have gotten a 100in, just couldnt find one in the market! Projector was not practical for me since its open hall.

It aint easy to spend so much on a TV, but bite the bullet as for a longer term use and experience. I use it now atleast 12 hours a day in average, but most of the time from 9am till 1am or so, especially since WFH. Most of the time 12 hours on music video from youtube! hahaha. Movies/anime from 7pm till 1am.

Back then 85in was sold at 22-24K, fortunately got it half the price.

ya. Really save a lot by not going to cinema nowadays and again better experience for home cinema. So the extra spent on TV is worth it anytime.

Icic. Ya. Indeed. U can consider to opt for OLED or QD-OLED for ur next purchase. The ‘upgrade’ will be day and night difference also.

I really enjoy my A80J although it is small. 🤪 next time can aim for bigger size oled model if there is attractive discount.

QD-OLED for now I think the price will not drop so fast.

Testing the usb ports.

USB 3 - usb 3.0 (blue colour) - no issue, reading of the video files on the drive is fast, can fast forward without buffeting or queuing.

USB 1 as shown in picture is usb 2.0, while fast forwarding, it is spinning before it is fast forwarded.

USB 2 also usb 2.0 same as usb 1 but when fast forwarding no issue, as good as the usb 3 port.

Is this an indication that my usb 1 is having prob?

Since it's still under warranty, I would call Sony to come and check if I were you. Tell them it's occasionally hiccup. Force them to change the board.

rm1.5k including labour cost everything? what is the size of ur tv?
if given that u have no more TV to use, u need to buy new one after all, by paying rm1.5k to get it replaced maybe still worth it...

Yup I’ve lost trust in their product. Already preordered a Samsung. Hopefully it can last longer than Sony.

I bought my mum a 55 inch Samsung the Frame for her bedroom.
After 3 years it start having some thin horizontal line.
And I have to say her usage is very minimal, maybe 10-20 hours a week max.

While in the main hall I'm using Sony 65x7000f that I got in 2019, still alive and kicking after years of daily abuse from me and my dad.
This is a very basic entry tv that doesn't even have Android/Google TV.
I remember checking the screen usage last year, it was already over 20,000 hours.
Sometime I really hope this tv 'die' so I can replace it with a 120hz panel mini LED tv (for my PS5 Pro) LOL

Anyway what I believe is ...... it's all down to luck.

My cousin had a LG OLED (can't recall which model), within 2 years panel issue.
Luckily it was under warranty so the technician replaced the panel for free.

My previous Sony TV was 50W800B, it lasted for 3.5-4 years then panel kaput.

If I'm in the market for a new TV right now, I'm leaning slightly towards TCL new mini LED tv.
The only thing that haven't convince me entirely is their service.

Luck definitely plays a part as well, but the number of failures encountered by forumers here cannot be taken lightly - especially when the TV is right after warranty period. Sony is not a cheap brand either, for it to fail so often is unacceptable especially for recent models.
