Prepared to buy sony a80j but this sharp refuses to die.

Personally I don't feel like it's a good argument as to why a TV would fail just because it's being a display set.

My parents house has 2 TVs, one for my dad and another for my oku sister. My dad's tv is up almost 24/7/365 for the past 8 years whereas my sister's TV already bite the dust 3 years ago despite recording much much lower usage.

Sometimes there are lottery factor when it comes to electronics used in electrical products. I would rather trust the position of the product that's being marketed, would affect manufacturers to use a slightly higher grade components for the said product.

i also just bought a x90k recently for my parents. i hope it can last becos i never purchase extra warranty which i find it a bit too ex.

did u check with sony how much to repair it?

my past sony tvs that i bought were all very lasting. not sure if it is due to the newer products are not so lasting as before?

i am also having one A80J which used for almost 2 years, warranty expired in 14 june 2025. hope it can last also becos again no extra warranty purchase.

used for 1 year, change to 50W800B and passed it to my parents to use, and it spoiled this year 2015 in april. so lasted for 11 years.

a display set bought from aeon which bought that time it should have been displayed for 1 year, no prob and use until 2021 (spoiled due to lighning strike), if not should still have been working.

on top of that i still have one sony tv bought back in 2011, very thick bezel LCD tv. still working even now, although not using it becos picture quality cannot make it for today standard as it is only 1080p. 

Wow rm12k dor a tv. I have yet to spend such amount in a tv yet. 🤪
x90h that time should be full array tv like x90k I supposed?

75-inch Bravia 5 (new one) is about rm9999 with free wh-1000xm6 (Sony brand new headphone) for free.

If given a choice I will still opt for OLED tv but smaller size as OLED really makes day and night difference and once one has used OLED tv before, can not go back.

My current A80J is small at 55-inch but given it is OLED, it still gives me excellent movie experience. 🤪

Not sure about TCL. But if you are considering Bravia 8 ii QD-OLED then you can consider the 2025 Samsung S90F/95F cause the 8 ii is using Samsung QD-OLED panel also if you don’t mind not having Dolby Vision.

Netflix recently activated HDR10+ on the latest 2025 Samsung TVs and some older models which support AV1 codec. So I have been doing a lot of comparison between LG OLED Dolby Vision vs Samsung QD-OLED HDR10+. I can say it’s a tie between DV and HDR10+. Obviously a lot would say Dolby Vision has the upper hand and more superior. But real scene highlights to me look similar at least.

But when it comes to “colour luminance and volume”, I can say that QD-OLED really helps with not just the “brighter than bright” peak brightness, the colour saturation when at higher brightness is very punchy and making the overall PQ even more impactful with white point close to D65. QD-OLED also has almost perfect uniformity and less banding issue.

So I reckon the 8 ii will perform even better. So yeah, you can consider the Samsung or the Sony QD-OLED. Either will be miles better.

If it is recent OLED tv since 2021 models, I find the brightness is not too bad already. Not perfect but acceptable.

The high contract really can make the the image looks a lot nicer even for YouTube or free air channels content, so I personally find that it is worth to sacrifice the brightness (which to me is at acceptable level now) for better picture quality.

Testing the usb ports.

USB 3 - usb 3.0 (blue colour) - no issue, reading of the video files on the drive is fast, can fast forward without buffeting or queuing.

USB 1 as shown in picture is usb 2.0, while fast forwarding, it is spinning before it is fast forwarded.

USB 2 also usb 2.0 same as usb 1 but when fast forwarding no issue, as good as the usb 3 port.

Is this an indication that my usb 1 is having prob?

I also have Sony 65X85J bought few years ago. Now have vertical lines.
Didnt expect Sony so bad in term of quality and reliability.

I bought my mum a 55 inch Samsung the Frame for her bedroom.
After 3 years it start having some thin horizontal line.
And I have to say her usage is very minimal, maybe 10-20 hours a week max.

While in the main hall I'm using Sony 65x7000f that I got in 2019, still alive and kicking after years of daily abuse from me and my dad.
This is a very basic entry tv that doesn't even have Android/Google TV.
I remember checking the screen usage last year, it was already over 20,000 hours.
Sometime I really hope this tv 'die' so I can replace it with a 120hz panel mini LED tv (for my PS5 Pro) LOL

Anyway what I believe is ...... it's all down to luck.

My cousin had a LG OLED (can't recall which model), within 2 years panel issue.
Luckily it was under warranty so the technician replaced the panel for free.

My previous Sony TV was 50W800B, it lasted for 3.5-4 years then panel kaput.

If I'm in the market for a new TV right now, I'm leaning slightly towards TCL new mini LED tv.
The only thing that haven't convince me entirely is their service.

can anyone recommend me a shop in PJ that can repair my Sony TV.

there's a pixel line at the top of the tv screen. not noticeable when watching movies but it's quite annoying when you knew it was there.
