QUOTE(tru.shyne @ Mar 26 2021, 09:50 AM)
thinking install unifi at my new double storey house
2 person staying as for now (no kids)
my wife working from home

should i go for unifi 500Mbps + FREE TP -link Mesh WiFi Deco M9 Plus
or downgrade abit get 300Mbps enough then add-on the Mesh Wifi either RM15 or RM35 per mth

Or there is better wifi router + mesh that can suggest
thank you
*
Don't bother getting the mesh wifi through them
Just buy your own mesh router (DECO M4 or M5 is good) and set it up by yourself.

Depending on your needs you probably only need 30 to 100Mbps

Also, if you do get your own mesh router, DO NOT follow TM's instructions of plugging the mesh router into your stock router, then setting up with dynamic ip. This creates a double NAT and conflicting wifi's, terrible instructions.

Instead, ask customer support for your PPPoE credentials, then set up one of the mesh nodes in PPPoE mode.

Note, if you do use the unifi TV Box there might need to be more settings set

But you can find many tutorials online telling you how to, such as https://youtu.be/TOFEVnjbBDc

Key in your details. After that, just wait for TM to call you to offer those packages and your confirmation in upgrade.
Anyway, not sure if the promo still going on or not.

yes, through the link I have provided. TM will call you within 7 working days.

If you can't wait, you can also make a call via100 and press the fourth option which is plans and promotions. (faster than waiting for them to call u)

That's why. Crappy routers
Also what is the specs of the computer that you use to do the speedtest?
Computers with very slow processor & very slow storage such as HDD won't get you full 800Mb/s

This is my speed on ASUS GT-AC5300 on CAT 7 cable

Below is my speed on Wi-Fi. 15 meter away & behind 2 walls

i don't mine in spending for that expensive router if that will fix my speed problem but what if the problem comes from tm? bangwall.gif

QUOTE(ranger79 @ Mar 26 2021, 09:19 AM)
I used to have that problem with my DLINK router, getting only 3xx on my 800. Manage to get 800+ after disabling the IPV6.

still the same 3xxmbps bangwall.gif bangwall.gif bangwall.gif

for now 100mbps should be enough for both of you but faster unifi will be better if you are planning to do heavy downloads / streaming in the future

btw why not wire up the entire house with cat6 for future proofing?

8 ports gigabit switch should be enough for 4 bedroom house. icon_rolleyes.gif

there may be an issue with your fiber reading.

Depending on which ONT you have, you might be able to plug an ethernet cable in and login to the modem's webpage and read the reading, it should be less than 28 at maximum, ideally less than 25 or more for a stable signal

If it's high that means TM used a bunch of splitters to get more ports of out of 1 box
