That's cool. I am using unifi for 8 years 😂. Got this router as a replacement for the az-tech router. This router randomly reboots itself even after upgrading to the latest Nov 2020 firmware. Just wondering if let's say I wanna sell the TP link router after I do factory reset it should be fine right? Another thing I would like to ask if using own router can TM monitor our activities 😅? Because I used to make noise previously when my house was under copper. Their equipment were crappy and also always disconnected. So I am kinda famous for this reason 😬
*
Stock router most likely has CWMP or TR-069 that basically sends info back to isp and also allows remote changing settings or upgrading firmware

If 3rd party router, and you don't set it up (why would you?) then the ISP has no control over it

With the said the modem probably also has it too.

thinking install unifi at my new double storey house
2 person staying as for now (no kids)
my wife working from home

should i go for unifi 500Mbps + FREE TP -link Mesh WiFi Deco M9 Plus
or downgrade abit get 300Mbps enough then add-on the Mesh Wifi either RM15 or RM35 per mth

Or there is better wifi router + mesh that can suggest
thank you
*
Don't bother getting the mesh wifi through them
Just buy your own mesh router (DECO M4 or M5 is good) and set it up by yourself.

Depending on your needs you probably only need 30 to 100Mbps

Also, if you do get your own mesh router, DO NOT follow TM's instructions of plugging the mesh router into your stock router, then setting up with dynamic ip. This creates a double NAT and conflicting wifi's, terrible instructions.

Instead, ask customer support for your PPPoE credentials, then set up one of the mesh nodes in PPPoE mode.

Note, if you do use the unifi TV Box there might need to be more settings set

But you can find many tutorials online telling you how to, such as https://youtu.be/TOFEVnjbBDc

there may be an issue with your fiber reading.
*
Depending on which ONT you have, you might be able to plug an ethernet cable in and login to the modem's webpage and read the reading, it should be less than 28 at maximum, ideally less than 25 or more for a stable signal

If it's high that means TM used a bunch of splitters to get more ports of out of 1 box

Just tested, blocked on U Mobile too, changing dns works (using DoH)

Maybe cause U Mobile peers with TM?

Edit: just did some tests with traceroute

With U Mobile DNS
It goes from 1.9.247.157 ™ to 175.139.142.25 ™ and just ends there being blocked.

Where as with any public dns resolver
It goes from 1.9.247.157 ™ to 104.16.110.36 (Cloudflare) and the site works.

Well, I set my Primary DNS as 1.1.1.1 and Secondary as 1.0.0.1 which is as per Cloudflare instructions.

And did this in the Router Settings.

So how come the TM still can take over my DNS?
*
Either IPv6 DNS was left unchanged so it's leaking there
Or
Their system remotely pushed settings which reset your dns settings.

Want to ask,
2~3 week ago,
Neighbour get 1 more unifi line,
At that time hear tm contractor shout at behind " still no line" several time,
From that time, my unifi no more line,
Report tm, contractor come, check the box at pole, ok, can connect,
Next day, neighbour call tm contractor, again no line,
Report tm again, ask me restart onu/btu & router,
Can connect, but after several hour, no line again,
In this loop for 2~3 week, almost every 2 day report tm, contractor come,
Yesterday, contractor come replace onu/btu from Nokia to Huawei, after awhile again same thing, no line...

Is it possible the first contractor screw up the box at pole?
*
They could have done a cheap tatic of using a splitter which gives them more ports but could have degraded the signal to the point of being too weak for you 2

If you get a contractor in your house, ask them to show the dBm reading of the fibre line, should be around 18 to 23 or so, 25 being kinda weak and 28 and up being unacceptable

Thanks for your reply. And yes, 30Mbps is fibre and I plan to upgrade them to 100Mbps but I think they are unlikely can utilise 100Mbps. That's the result I still remain as 30Mbps. Just the crappy router has to change. I already added into cart and need to pay midnight tonight. Btw, how about setting? is it vlan profile provided? My Asus Rt-56U was quite easily for setting and I'm unfamiliar with dlink UI and setting actually.
*
I'm unsure if there's a preset VLAN profile but in case you need to set manually Unifi uses VLAN ID 500 for internet and VLAN ID 600 for HyppTV (ircc)

Anyone used Deco m4 with their stock dir842 router? What's your take?

Am currently on 100mbps using rtn12hp as repeater but not satisfied hence though of adding Deco m4 to improve it. 2.5 storey with about 2900 sqf
*
I would suggest removing the stock router and using only the deco as the router + mesh.

Damned... Thanks!

Last question can the Google dns be setup in mesh?
*
I don't know why but Unifi's default instructions for mesh is to connect it to the stock router and broadcast yet another wifi that will compete with your stock router (they literally tell you to forget the stock router wifi, doesn't even tell you to disable it) while also creating a double NAT

The better way is to just remove the stock router, and make one of the Deco nodes a router. More control, less back doors.

Hi guys does anyone have issues with WhatsApp video call lagging? It's happening on my mom's phone which is Oppo A53. I am using Unifi 100 Mbps and recently changed to my own router but the issue still persists. I have already reinstalled the app and even cleared the phone system settings but the issue is still there. The video call lagging is only on some contacts. I hope someone could help me with this. Is it possible for me to bring the phone to the oppo service centre for this kind of issue since it is under warranty?
*
Maybe the other contact is the one having network issues?
Try another video calling app

can i ask what router Unifi provide ?
currently with Maxis fiber (router DEATH on first day but MAXIS never replace), so i use my own router.
*
From what I've seen on this thread older installations seem to get a tplink or a dlink, new ones are a very generic branded white box router (Aztech)

Just use your own router, it will be better

might use their router as my repeater tongue.gif
*
Well just note that whatever name you set as your wifi name you'll end up promoting for them
their stock firmware always adds @unifi to the end of your wifi name

Please enable IPv6 for your connections.
Sites such as Facebook and YouTube work better with IPv6 enabled.
*
Does IPv6 really make that big of a diffrence?
I disabled it because I use Maxis because the older Archer c5v stock router you can't change IPv6 DNS which causes a DNS leak for Pi Hole

Wow , so now TM will block certain Cloudflare Anycast IP , they dare to do it?
I tot they just blocking certain IP from REFLECTED.NET and doing DNS pollution on their own DNS server which i can easilly get rid of it by set the v4 DNS and v6 DNS to Cloudflare
All traceroute seems to be blackholed after entering TM Internal network

Tested blocked IP :

104.18.155.3
104.18.156.3
2606:4700::6812:9c03
2606:4700::6812:9b03

traceroute :
CODE
Tracing route to 104.18.155.3 over a maximum of 30 hops

 1     1 ms     1 ms     1 ms  11.0.0.1
 2    16 ms    18 ms    16 ms  sta-107-254.tm.net.my [219.92.107.254]
 3    18 ms    18 ms    19 ms  10.55.49.107
 4     *        *        *     Request timed out.
 5     *        *        *     Request timed out.
 6     *        *

*
Did they like try to block some site, did just a bit of probing, got some IPs, didn't even check who's it is and just blocked Cloudflare in the process instead of the actual site?

yes , i think they just get the domain list then TM block all the IP(s). Other ISP never block , they only conduct DNS pollution which is required by MCMC
*
Ah I see, I use Maxis and use a public dns provider so I never see these problems lol.

Also, I did a look up on that IP, and I can see why TM tried to block it, but they didn't realize other stuff is hosted on the same IP too

TM contractor just installed their pole yesterday and today they will come to install my 300mbps package.

Just want to ask, what I need to ask the technician installer after he done the installation? Like checking the noise and such, what it is called?
*
I think it's the signal strength or something of the fibre cable
It should be no more than - 28dBm

*
Most ISP's cut cost and just give the cheapest thing that works okay-ish
Like, if you signed up for 800Mbps, I doubt you'll ever see that on the stock router.
