unreliable nand sourcing. some of them mix the nand flash in different batches. is better to get from reputable brand that also produce nand themselves like samseng, crucial(micron) or wd/sandick/kioxia

ps: intel quit and sold to sk hynix, ongoing rebranding to solidigm, sk hynix no presence in malaysia market for now
WD negatively is actually because them somehow downgrade their spec in their successors eg SN750 SE and SA510 being downgrade of SN750 og and blue 3d, but you can consider their older model as long as still got stock

I will also post some results regarding to both of my 870 EVOs after doing some full scans on them. be advised they're NOT looking good.

this may serve a good case for those who want to buy a Samsung SSD this year or so. last time they have good QC, I've been using them since 700 series (750 EVO etc.)

this time around their QCs have been extremely lackluster. I'm having 2 drives failing at almost the same rate.

i found another user report for samsung for 870 evo 2tb and 4tb with similar issues, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoyd4xu3T3s (the affected drives were made in 2021, and the guy bought them from amazon also)

i'm not sure if this is amazon-specific or a world-wide supply issue, but yeah shit happened. i guess your local choice for 4tb drives is crucial mx500.

innocent.gif seems like a very solid evidence that both drives need RMA immediately

yes, apparently. that's really bad.

that's also why i never skip data backups. even simple backup strats will help a lot in situations like this.

Amateur here, whats the diff between these two except the price?

Which is more suitable for main OS storage and heavy lifting software?

What are you going to use the 4 NVMe SSD in RAID for?

If solely for storage, then it's fine
But if it's for OS, software & games, not worth it

Best storage/price/performance for PCIE 3.0 and PCIE 4.0. Depends on your motherboard and your budget.

actually most of them are for different machines. they are for work purposes. cari makan bang biggrin.gif

i just spare a pair to see if i can do a raid 0 for myself. some of my vms are larger than 120gb each. to prevent potential failures that cost me more time to set up everything, i just clone copies from master to run tests. it's much faster doing that.

edit: my current dream ssd is this, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/pro...ifications.html

.. in my dream only. i'm still sane hehe

The Transcend is just a basic PCIe Gen 3 ssd, fine for casual use, boot drive and os

The Kingston is new, PCIe Gen 4, faster if your system supports it, also great for boot, os and software, but may run hotter

the KC3000 replaced the old KC2500 which was a great value pcie gen3 drive
now the transcend took over the kc2500's place as it's discontinued

i just realized that samsung 840 pro (1x 256gb, 2x 512gb; op at 15% each) that are running in this old x99 are around 9 years old now. the 256gb has health status of 97%, while 2x 512gb have 99%.

mlc and 3d xpoint are the two memory types that should be available as options for prosumer usage. but yeah, they are too good to be used in that user segment. (i mean, too durable, until they could potentially be the reason that makers went out of business)

the increased layer count of 3d-tlc is supposed to improve endurance, compared to 2d-tlc. the ones in the market currently should be relatively closer to that of mlc's.

however, i might be wrong, because they don't tell us much about this. there is no article about such comparisons, in terms of relative endurance.

next year we will have 232-layer from micron and 238-layer from sk hynix.

edit: 3d-tlc with mlc-like high endurance are mainly deployed for dc/industrial usage. if you looked for such options (for work purposes mainly), you can source from there.

it seems samsung's SSD issue is seeping into their newer 990 pro as well:

Must be that "periodic" flash cell overwriting to deal with cell voltage drift........
Either the periodic algorithm is too aggressive or the cell voltage drift is faster/worst than expected until triggering the periodic cell refresh algorithm...... hmm.gif
