Hi, all sifu here
I’m planning to get a Samsung 990 Pro 1TB SSD as my second SSD for desktop gaming. Should I get with heatsink or without heatsink version?
*
It needs some heatsinking, if your mobo slot doesnt come with a built in (not all mobos have heatsink for second slot) then get the normal version and add your own heatsink. The OEM heatsink version are usually quite more expensive than add your own.

However if your not comfortable to do your own, just buy the heatsink version.

S-ATA SSD is good enough and have no heat issue.

Thanks for reply. My consideration is my M2_2 slot is underneath the GPU card. The OEM heatsink version might not fit enough the room. sad.gif

That Toms is several years old now. Irrelevant for today. You can pray for luck you get the older batch but realistically nobody knows when the part change happen and its likely if buy now your getting newer, crappier ones.

I have KC600 but in msata version, use silicon motion controller & DRAM. Theres plain sata version. Otherwise can try to get Crucial MX500 before stock runs out after Micron soon to pull out of market.

Spreading fake news. Where is it on that new review? NV3 is quite new as well. That site comparing new and old controller. WD also got amazing Dramless controller as well.

Indeed not all HS version will fit, ie Adata S70 Heatsink version wont fit under GPU. For that can get WD850P (PS5 Heatsink version), as imho is low enough to fit under.

For add on, my research points towards ID-COOLING ZERO M05 will fit under GPU, theres user reviews that confirmed that.

Before you shoot you mouth again, read the comments as to the possible cause and dive into the source. Translated (search timestamp for actual comment in German):
September 9, 2025
According to Geizhals, the Kingston KC3000 previously used the Micron TLC-176 NAND flash memory, but unfortunately, it has recently been switched to the older BiCs5 TLC-112. Therefore, it's important to distinguish between the two versions. This one should be the newer version with the cheaper NAND flash memory.

In Geizhals site (Germany webstore so its details are legit):
https://geizhals.de/kingston-kc3000-pcie-4-...g-a2621457.html (mentions Micron pre 2023)
https://geizhals.de/kingston-kc3000-pcie-4-...g-a2621456.html
https://geizhals.de/kingston-kc3000-pcie-4-...g-a2621458.html (Both newer listings stated BICS5 NAND)

Yes I know source its in German and its easier to shout fake news, but take the effort to find out the truth.

It was a comment from another web forum which got me interested to find Igor and then Geizhal to search the truth. Not easy I know, thats why what I said has proof instead of shouting fake news and calling people names.

For context Micron 176 layer is equivalent to BICS6 162 layer generation NAND.

Yet you linked a different site. Can't speak English Is not my problem. Did you know Adata also did the same thing before? Unlike you, I don't doom and gloom a brand. They have their reputation to watch.

Also, KC3000 current prices same or higher than Samsung or WD high end SSDs. Thats the reason recent recommendations changed. Not from your news. Samsung and WD got better package.

Cant sprich Englisch is no stopper to finding out facts. It didnt stop me. Unlike you I didnt shout fake news before trying to find out.

Reputation? What reputation? These brands are known to chop & swap parts. You want all from the same OEM? Get Sammie, or WD or SK Hynix.

You linked a review. I read it. No data says it. I ignore german.I got better things to do then reading an alien language. Especially from some trying to nail brands they hate. Then you linked a different german site. Did you read low yat rules? Post in English.

If you think those brands are clean, you are mistaken.

SATA drives these days are low end models and its highly possible these WD BLUE are DRAMless QLC. Still ok for data storage but just be aware not for large file transfers.

Sammie 870 EVO is still DRAM+TLC for SATA if you can find it at good prices.

Have a free & open mindset. Theres a wider world than just whats in English. Learn and you shall be learnt. Theres never ending to learning new things if you set your mind free in this era of global information. Even when I dont know all the languages in the world, theres the power of Google & AI.

The Igor review I linked is in English but the sources of info is German because Igor site is primarily in German and despite that I showed the source to be transparent what I said. Lowyat rules never mentioned sources to an English article has to be English too no?

Unless I'm going to countries that speaks German, I will. Not anytime soon.

The issue with that site is it blocks translation site. Tried google translation.

https://geizhals-de.translate.goog/kingston..._x_tr_hist=true

Anyway, KC3000 currently is overpriced. Bad chip or not. Its not getting any recommendations anytime soon and never will. It will blow up once English press gets a wind of it. Maybe they will test it side by side too.

If your using Chrome or Chromium based browser ie MS Edge, select/highlight the sentence to translate, right click, select 'Translation into English'. BAM! The translated would appear at somewhere top right in a popup box. Works for sites like Geizhal too. The wider world in just 2 seconds.
