Thinking of getting a ~250GB NVME SSD for Linux dual boot use this CNY.

Looked around and seems like Kingston KC2500 is best for around ~RM150 price range.

Any other suggestions around that price range?
Already checked Silicon Power A60/A80, Corsair Force MP510

I need some help putting a ssd inside a usb casing and playing games from there is ok or putting nvme in nvme usb casing better?

nvme size pricing so far better one is transcend but price incrasing and limit to 2TB max size but crucial mx500 limit to 4TB.

Or should I just a get a 4TB usb hdd instead since its cheaper?

I alreafy try usb 2.0 flashdrive playing games. The game so slow until freeze. I'm playing online games.

What about vibration if suing external hdd?
*
USB drives, even 3.0 ones are painfully slow these days
all the good flash is reserved for ssds

usb drives only good for casual storage and file transfer these days

USB HDD is enough to play games in my experience

Hi everyone, I am currently trying to get a SSD for my pc build and are torn between getting a Crucial BX500 or Kingston KC3000, it would be my main primary drive and since I don’t do any video editing, I have read that a SATA SSD is basically sufficient for my use. However, since the difference in the both ssd is around rm125, is it worth to get the M.2 instead of the SATA?
*
Same capacity?
The BX500 is a dramless SSD
The KC3000 is a PCIe Gen 4 SSD
The peformance difference of them is huge
Get the KC3000

Sorry a typo in my previous post, should be MX500 which is also a dram ssd.
*
Personally I'll go with the MX500, dram is helpful especially if you want to use it as a boot drive

Cheapest of the cheap but quite fast for a gen3, but quite fast. My 1tb runs pretry hot though under full load (>80c). Lol.
*
Personally I still love and prefer the Kingston KC2500, sadly it has been discontinued, but this seems like a nice alternative

pci-e gen3 x4. however, it's better to check the form factor of the stock ssd. sometimes these manufacturers use less-common ones. 2280 is what we can usually find in retail market.
*
Looking at SK Hynix site, seems like this is standard 2280, so no problems

Techpowerup launched their ssd database, they're still adding more drives in but there's some good technical specs on quite a few models in there already

Amateur here, whats the diff between these two except the price?

Which is more suitable for main OS storage and heavy lifting software?
*
The Transcend is just a basic PCIe Gen 3 ssd, fine for casual use, boot drive and os

The Kingston is new, PCIe Gen 4, faster if your system supports it, also great for boot, os and software, but may run hotter

the KC3000 replaced the old KC2500 which was a great value pcie gen3 drive
now the transcend took over the kc2500's place as it's discontinued

Hi guys, gonna buy a new SSD for my old T400.. since is is older laptop, I am worried gonna have Incompatibility issue..
I am going to go for 120G..
Siliconpower A55
PnY CS900
Adata SU650
Beside compatibility, any input on reliability and warranty claim for these brand ? of course, if u guys have any other model are welcome...
*
SP A55 is fine but seems like Silicon Power likes to change components around (such as the controller), so peformance may vary from online benchmarks and your one
PNY CS900, would avoid, it uses the Phison S11 controller, known to be unreliable and dies, supposedly fixed but I wouldn't trust it, can google SATAFIRM S11 for more info, Kingston A400 is also another one with the same controller, as well as many other budget ssd
no comment on the ADATA, seems okay

Personally I would go for Crucial MX500 but no 120gb model
But then again, seems like the T400 only supports SATA1 (1.5Gbps) speeds anyways
So no need to get such a high peformance drive

I would say get the SP or the Adata

Also do note there's quite a lot of scam fake ssds on laz/shoppe these days, mostly Kingston A400 and WD Green, sometimes some Samsung ones too but rarer.

Thanks bro.. great insight... I am just reading this thread too.. and those 3 are actually DRAMLESS.. are DRAMLESS that bad?
Regarding fake SSD, any idea to know about this?
*
dramless would be slower, but for your machine... probably doesnt make too much of a difference, still better to have it though

as for fake ssds, they're tough to spot, they even have the name of the real product and have real capacity too (eg you buy 1tb you get really 1tb. unlike those fake pendrives), but of course the components inside are cheap chinese knockoff
It would also not be detected by the oem software (eg, Kingston SSD Manager)
The listings just feel sketchy to me, you cant trust "100% authentic gurantee, lowest price gurantee, lots of 5 star reviews from shopee, everything can be faked, only for sure option is LazMall/Shopee Mall, so far didnt see any scams with those tier of sellers

but hey feel free to drop a link here to check before buying

If that's the case.. I got not much to choose bro
https://shp.ee/exp87ni
Adata official store selling at rm113
All the other seller selling around rm50, and preferred+?
*
cant blindly trust prefered or prefered+ too, those just mean more people chose them
but I've still seen some that are scams

anyways, consider this https://shopee.com.my/ADATA-ULTIMATE-SU650-...8521.7905409270
I have purchased from this seller before for other stuff

Generally I tend to avoid sellers from china, but now some scams have set their location and claim to be local seller
I also try to see if the seller has a presence outside of the online marketplace (eg, physical store, own website)

Hi. I'm new to this ssd stuff. Just bought me a new 1. Anyone could do a favor by recommending a cloning software? It's Adata SX8200 Pro, fyi.

Haven't do anything with it yet. Just arrived few hours ago.

Also, its comes with a thin piece of heatsink. Good to use it on a laptop?

Thanks in Advance.
*
Macrium Reflect is the best
unfortunately they are discontinuing the free version
you could use the trial
or go hunt down the old free version

Usually SSDs come with bundled software too, like WD, Crucial, Kingston and many more brands all bundle Acronis True Image
not sure if ADATA does it

heatsink, if it fits I guess you might as well put it on

any recommendations for 1tb entry lvl m.2 nvme?

am looking at pny cs1031 from shopee / sn570 from amazon SG

initial thought is to go for cs1031 due to easier handling for warranty since its based in MY but concern is that pny isnt as reliable

try to keep budget as low as possible for fast storage

thanks in advance
*
Can consider also Kingston NV2, similar price, but faster R/W

hmmm thank you for the recommendation

quick searched some reviews seems like negative, are you using it urself?

any issues encountered for this ssd?
*
im using an older ssd from them, the KC2500, it was a pretty good value drive
the KC3000 that replaced it isnt that great in terms of value

NV2, seems good on paper, TLC nand, dramless but so is the PNY CS1031
pcie gen4 support although its speeds only reach gen3

Now to find MTE220S 1TB is rare, I see shopee only got 2 seller now. While SN570 1TB mana mana pun ada. And Crucial P3 is HMB, Solidgm P41 is HMB, Kingston NV2 is HMB, all of these are HMB and 1TB easily to find everywhere. Face it, lower speed SSD with DRAM are getting phased out for HMB.

And 33% more expensive puts the KC3000 on another bracket of price segment in the upper midrange Gen4.
*
I think the good midrange gen3 ssds with TLC + DRAM are becoming a dying breed

The MTE220S is probably on its way out, its fading away like the KC2500

Dats a whole lot more drives than any MATX mobo have NVME slots  sweat.gif
Got a link bro? I'd wary of really cheap drives as they could be really substandard C grade stuff or worse; fakes, which is very prevalent with SATA SSD nowadays

*
so far the most common fakes I've seen are WD Green and Kingston A400

but I have seen Samsung ones too, in both SATA and M.2 form factor

Alright here's a more technical non judgemental explanation of why it is a fake SSD
If you buy it and connect it to your system, it does show 30TB to your system
They program the drive to report a fake capacity to the os

Once you run out of the real capacity (from like 8gb to 32gb), your data starts to get corrupted as it tries to write to storage cells that don't exist
They put some real capacity so when you try it out your think it's real

For more info see
https://youtu.be/wIi0MZZ3qBY
The video is for a 2TB USB drive but it's the same thing just larger fake capacity and a metal box

storage: maybe Kingston NV2?

Doesn't need to be Samsung, but as long performance are still capped at NVME Gen3.

Consider Kingston KC3000
