large SSD usually will last much longer, SSD with RAM, and with overprovisioning enabled will further extend the SSD life expectancy.
provide you dont abuse it, eg torrenting, use it like server drive.

My 960evo 256GB TBW is 31347GB, already erased itself 122 times and it's still kicking.

my usual trick is non-essential programs and download are saved to HDD or NAS.
give it few more years, SSD 1TB/$ will become more affordable and you can say good bye to dead hdd or bulky PC soon.

i was planning get HDD, to download file and sometime torrent, most 1TB are CMR right, just 2TB above is SMR

What MOBO your PC is using? Some prebuilt use MOBO that have pcie gen4 but to save cost only give pcie gen3 SSD.

And as horns mentioned, NVME SSD have different length, common for PC is 2280 but some PC brand might use different length or only have space for shorter SSD. So better to check what's your PC is using.

if you download mostly large files and not heavy downloader, CMR/SMR makes no difference.
most big drive is likely SMR drives, also different between manufacturers.

Cheap drive is mostly SMR it seems.

pci-e gen3 x4. however, it's better to check the form factor of the stock ssd. sometimes these manufacturers use less-common ones. 2280 is what we can usually find in retail market.
*
Looking at SK Hynix site, seems like this is standard 2280, so no problems

Can't find the MOBO spec, CPU is 12700? Alder Lake should have pcie gen4 but who know maybe HP own MOBO pcie gen3 to save cost.

yeap, if you google the spec, it has dram and it's written on the packaging sweat.gif
it also have the SSD management tool, but not advance as other such as samsung/micron one, Samsung offer Rapid mode on SATA SSD, encryption, etc,
also supplies it own NVME driver.

seems to be bang for buck SSD

does the official software provide an option to set overprovisioning?

i don't install the software. over-provisioning just means to leave unallocated space. you can do this with os' disk management tool.

https://us.transcend-info.com/embedded/tech...er-provisioning

edit: in general, these optional ssd management tools are provided for user convenience. you can always apply most ssd optimizations manually, especially with w10 and up.

there was an incident about samsung magician update check caused 100% cpu usage. hence i just install it, apply optimizations, then uninstall it for samsung drives.

Techpowerup launched their ssd database, they're still adding more drives in but there's some good technical specs on quite a few models in there already
