Thanks. Dropped them a msg (inc the other distributor), now awaiting their reply.
Mine is 1TB model, I doubt i have reached its claimed TBW (too good to be true anyway) and not even 90% full. All i know, windows entered check disk and in windows, the disk appeared intermittently. Cant even detect the diak in bios.

Alphamatic has responded and suggested to go through the shop where I bought the ssd. The shop (OKGLOBE) is responsive enough and will assist me with the RMA process.

Will update again sleep.gif

Not easy now. Price went up a lot since Nov 2023.

Surprisingly, Samsung 990 Pro price did not move.
*
I wonder why SSD price increase ? is it because of HBM memory shortage because many country hoarding for storage on AI ?
QUOTE(horns @ Mar 29 2024, 07:06 PM)
ssd price hike is not a big deal to most people i think. to them, ssd is just not one of their priorities. that's why we never have news about general public going panic when ssds have its price hiked.

for those who know a bit more, i believe they already have enough time to get prepared since last year hehe
*
but it's a big deal where it increase over 60%.Last year still see samsung 870 , 500GB rm160 as now rm270.
Even worst , mechanical HDD follow the trend , if HDD hike , HDD also hike.Last year still can get WD blue rm230 2TB now over rm330.

2nd hand HDD also increase ? no reason at all.
QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Mar 30 2024, 11:53 AM)
Depends on who you ask. Many still come here wondering why SSD prices so expensive like they didnt get the memo months ago, so some might want to hold purchase thinking it might drop again but hooboy its gonna go even higher again. So those holdouts buy now if still can, but you really should have bought months ago.
*
Since it going to hike , what is the cheapest solution now ? holdout or buy now ? or buy 2nd ?

if possible please read my previous reply with the right context sir.

good deals never wait. the sellers need to eat also. the price of ssds was low last year, because it's general clearance of old stocks across most brands.

for hdds, it's inflation, weak exchange rates, etc. in general. however, price of 2nd-hand hdds should not be hiked.

I read some online review like laz and other online selling , mostly still old stock base on production date batch upload review picture.Old stock but seller sell as new stock price.
As for HDD also the same , i doubt there are people buying HDD 1-2TB now adays.

but , if seller increase price , no buyer buying and they just wait , then how seller earn ?

Which SSD type and brand is useful for storage ? Just 1 time store , never need rewrite.Actually pendrive also can but there is no 1TB pendrive.

You might like external ssd like Kingston xs2000. Price is similar to nvme ssd though. Alternatively, you can pick and choose your fav ssd and buy a usb enclosure.

Buy like 6 mths ago.. oh wait.

Not too late to buy buy buy! NAND prices continue to go up so SSD prices too plus our Ringgit Madani getting shittier daily so every new SSD batch distros bring in surely will get currency inflation too.

I would be wary of buying 2nd hand coz NAND do gets wornout with usage worse if used to mine Chia coin unless you 100% trust seller.

For offline archiving, HDD is better. It seems that magnetic plates is more stable at holding data without power for years vs SSD NAND

where did you get said hdd from, suprisingly "fake" hdds exist and many are on lazada/shopee

basically they take an old drive, print a new label onto it, wipe smart data and sell as new

As long as the storage size is 'real' (not like SSD with thumbdrive inside), a used HDD is still more robust compared to used SSD. Whatmore if the SSD was from a Chia coin rig.

A 'dead' HDD you can prolly still get data out of it as the magnetic platters are still intact, unlike exhausted SSD the NAND controller will basically kills itself.

So if given a choice for offline archiving Id take my chances with used HDD rather than used SSD.

HDD since someone say HDD is better, so I just shared how much I just bought recently.

The seller sell pulled out system hardware stuff from new/used/refurbished stuff. So if is new pulled from system, he will listed as new pulled from system, if used pulled from system, he will listed as used pulled from system or just as used with lesser seller warranty.

Which seller really trusted on online ? It'd be hard to find a well pack and trusted seller for HDD.You know , our parcel all throw here and there. And the warranty issue like 7 days warranty.

I live in KL most item also bought from KL/Selangor seller

I bought 2tb black HDD from WD official packaging very good come with thick air bubbles throw here and there won't be a problem as long not to do it under powered on, same for WD 4tb blue also no sign of problem after 4 year+

crucial MX 500 1tb and 2tb both also 4 year+ no sign of problem too , since is a solid state normal packaging throw here and there also won't causing much issues other than real physical damage

Really depends your luck and your hunch some seller just too good to be true .
