Maybe when I get Core Ultra 9 somewhere in the future. Probably Z990 motherboard.

Makes no sense. You lose 1 extra NMVE slot just to gain RAID speed which a single fast Gen4 drive like 990 Pro is even faster and no cross drive latency loss since the 2nd RAID unit will certainly plug to the chipset PCIE lane.

i really hope 14900ks will come soon. i'm curious about the intel's latest and ddr5 platform.

most of my pci-e 4.0 ssds are still in their packaging. hopefully i can make use of them very soon.

Well, 14900KS isn't cheap.

Obviously Msian waterfish prices on top of KS waterfish MSRP.

<1% difference from regular 14900K but with whole lotsa power drawn (which you can still get with an OCed regular 14900K haha). Basically not worth it unless you want bragging rights for having a limited CPU.

.. wow thanks a lot for this. you're right, it's not cheap at all. 14900k it is then.

yeah i'm too optimistic lol

tbh i'm happy with my current system. however it's starting to show its age.

it's time to move on.

Yeah, go 14900K instead.

As for me, I'm not happy with crappy memory controller on my CPU. Unable to do DDR5-8000. Waiting for big upgrade before swapping to a new one.

ok i will do that.

ddr5-8000.. that's a set of fast ram that you have there.

for personal computing, i'm not picky about performance anymore. however, i want a stable system with 128gb of ram or more. i wanna experience what it is like to run a vm there haha

Your current setup HEDT, need something like Xeon Sapphire/Emerald Rapids or Threadripper to be equivalent category.

right. i went for hedt because i needed more pci-e lanes for work stuff at home.

these days, even the mainstream cpu is good enough for me haha

Problem is Intel kiamsiap with PCIE lanes only enough for GPU, 2-4 4X PCIE/NMVE devices or SSD. You want more bandwidth they force you go with Xeon. AM5 more generous but platform stability issues.

intel has done the same for years. that's why i was reluctant to upgrade for a long time. i will keep my x299 machines for as long as it can run. 44 pci-e lanes, although pci-e 3.0, can still do a lot of things.

i don't have much experience in amd's cpus for personal computing.

Yeah, stock XMP fail due to CPU memory controller. Still searching for stable 8000 by slowly loosening the timings. This pair of RAM will stay with me for some time. Now need a CPU with good MC. Ugh, even this one got silicon lottery.

susah lah :/

in terms of ram, i never have rams with crazy clock speeds, since i chose high capacity, filling up all slots.

it's fine for me. i never have ram issues, and they get the jobs done haha

I could get 14900K but not worth the performance upgrade (and still rolling the dice on silicon lottery). I'm waiting for the right moment before I upgrade CPU and mobo. Hopefully DDR5-8000 is not as hard as DDR4-4000 when the time comes.

it's not worth the upgrade. from what i have read, basically 14900k is the refresh of 13900k. while there might be a chance that intel has improved memory support, no one can guarantee anything.

i have done cpu upgrade between refresh before. honestly, it's a waste of time and money.
