I can vouch for kc2500. given its cheap price in Malaysia, I'm surprised it is hardly being recommended. its performance is up there and temps are good. likewise for kc3000.

Bought KC2500 500 GB.

Tested Read : 3210 and Write 2480 on macOS Monterey. sad.gif

mine is close to the advertised spec (edit: after firmware update).. but installed as a secondary drive and about 30GB used.
not as fast as my samseng evo plus but given the price is substantially cheaper, i can't complain.

does laptop mobo have specific limits on the ssd speed?

im currently using Toshiba XG5 512gb that came standard on my dell xps15 9560.

intend to switch to 1tb with higher write speed. usage mostly autocad 3d rendering
*
Yes, it is subject to the laptop's ssd interface. I believe the xpa 9560 supports pcie gen 3.0, not the newer 4.0.

Thanks for reminding, i totally forgot about this model. Picked one 1TB for less than rm500 as I ran out of space on my kc2500. I was looking for 1TB KC2500 but found out it has been discontinued. Other options are 8200 Pro, HP EX950, P5, CS3030 but this Transcend is the cheapest of the lot.

Looks like midrange Gen3 SSD are slowly being phased out.

updated: on normal operation the 220s runs perfectly fine with low temp. however, when copying/writing big chunks of data, the drive temp will shoot up > 80c. maybe not suitable for ITX kaki.

Hi guys, any suggestion to replace my ancient Samsung 850 evo 250gb?

Budget below 1k. Size 1tb. Usage for main OS, and frequently played game.
Was looking at nvme m2 Samsung 970 evo plus, but open to other brands as well.
*
Transcend MTE220s < RM500
HP EX950 RM500
Crucial P5 RM600

You can even get 2TB MTE220s for less than 1k. this drive runs hot during sustained writes though.

970 Evo plus is still king for high sustained writes rates, so no issue with your choice here.

tbh, mte220s is so affordable now i just bought another 2x 2tb hehe

Cheapest of the cheap but quite fast for a gen3, but quite fast. My 1tb runs pretry hot though under full load (>80c). Lol.

I have it nstalled with a copper heatsink (in a laptop). Normal / gaming runs below 50c. So no complains hehe. It only gets up to 83c when i copy large chunks of files but i no longer need to do that so no biggie.

Personally I still love and prefer the Kingston KC2500, sadly it has been discontinued, but this seems like a nice alternative
*
yes, I replaced my KC2500 with the MTE220S. HP EX950 is also another alternative.

Require M.2 2280

Should be enough to last another 3 years?
*
Budget and purpose? If for secondary storage, just buy any stick from a reputable brand will do.

there are always new good deals coming. however just check them out when you have the needs to get them.

i used to get stuff that 'i want'. they ended up filling up the store room. it's really not a good habit. this is true for ssds. in general, ssds are mainly meant for active storage, not offline long-term storage. (ssds need electrical power to keep nand cells charged to be optimal)
*
I'm guilty as charged. Impulse purchased a 1TB kc3000 for rm275 recently, supposedly for a new build which may never see the light. Another kc2500 left unused though i can still install in the kids laptop as a secondary drive.

Ahh good to know that as in future when comes my time to upgrade the SSD, Gen5 drives would have been ubiquitous and Gen4 drives would (most likely) drop in price, so a dilemma would be either choosing a Gen5 or a high end Gen4 SSD then. So technically there is still merits to using Gen5 even if limited by the Gen4 slot. Thanks.
*
I do believe top tier Gen4 SSD will stay relevant for a loong time. The speed is plenty fast for most use.

I do agree, tho just as with Gen3 SSD continues to be made & sold today, top tier Gen3 drives are priced nearly similar to top Gen4 ones so it really has less reasons to go for the older tech.

I see the transition from Gen4 to Gen5 will be similar and of course for the majority PC users it shouldnt matter as either will suit most use case, but if it cost me nearly the same I would want to max out performance for the dollar.

Gen5 runs hot AF so that is probably a big turn off, until someone comea out with a better controller with a better and cooler controller haha.

Hi all. Sorry for the late reply. Its from All IT Hypermarket. This is the link.

https://shopee.com.my/Kingston-KC3000-PCIe-...1b-5de9c0766558

RM387.50 - 58.13(15% off voucher) - 3000 coins = RM299.37.
*
That is a good price (with vouchers) at current market.

All IT is ok. Shipping out is a bit slow but all good. I bought stuffs from them before.

no stock? or they just realize they should sell at higher price bruce.gif

i can see ssd prices keep creeping up. kc3000 2tb from 500 (nov23) > 600 > now 700++

Mind you global SSD prices only just started to rise and expected to go up to 50% more so you might see that 2TB SSD prolly near RM900 would not be a surprise.
*
bruh, malaysian when it comes to price increase, we will be the first to reach there haha.

My Transcend MTE220S crapped out after 2 years. I only use it to store games and some documents.

Anybody knows who should I contact for RMA?

Wow! Its claim to fame is its much higher than average TBW & MTBF. Looks like that was only good on paper.
*
Mine is 1TB model, I doubt i have reached its claimed TBW (too good to be true anyway) and not even 90% full. All i know, windows entered check disk and in windows, the disk appeared intermittently. Cant even detect the diak in bios.
