still 720p FaceTime HD camera... my god... but the keynote like saying the camera is sharper and has better image under low light?
but same resolution?? one thing to note that the new macbook pro with M1 only has Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. no more 4 ports option... This post has been edited by westlife: Nov 11 2020, 03:05 AM |

besides, all the three new macs are having the exact same M1 chip. look likes it is due to the active cooling that makes the macbook pro performs even better than air?

Interested on the new M1 chipped MBP, price seemed lower than Intel's? Just wondering how the apps gonna be like. I'm heavy Chrome user, do I still get full Desktop Chrome or it's gonna be iOS version of Chrome?

The most worried part of this M1 chip, is the compatible with the applications.
Those who use for work i suggest wait and see. Those who use for entertainment can buy anytime. |

It was called "flexgate" and the display ribbon cable failed prematurely. Macbook from 2016 to 2018, yours fall within these years. And crappy that they don't replace it under manufacturer's defect. Did you try writing directly to Apple? I managed to replace my battery once out of warranty, at 26th month old. Apple has an "undisclosed battery warranty" for up to 3 years, if I'm not mistaken. |

Apple has an "undisclosed battery warranty" for up to 3 years, if I'm not mistaken. they did not acknowledge that it is a manufacturer defects for my 2017 model. There is existing free repair programme for 2016 model. you are rite, one year i bring my laptop out less than 10 times. so my laptop is always in the same stage that the lid is opened. I was speaking to apple directly. I brought my macbook pro to apple orchard. battery i managed to get it replaced once for free becos it was bloated. this round they did not repair for free becos of the repair of the display i supposed. but i dod believe, if I wait until my macbook pro battery to bloat until the stage like last time which I could not even close the lid fully, they will still replace it for free. i dun think they would rather replace it for free instead of seeing case where there is incident happened for their product due to bloated battery. haha. Example share market websites, should be working perfectly on the new Macs ??? If your iPad safari can open, meaning the MacBook can open. Hope this helps. QUOTE(EricYong! @ Nov 12 2020, 08:55 PM) Should i get the M1 MBP 13 inch or the one with intel chip? Depends on what you are doing with your Mac. If you do e-mail, Safari browser and word processing work, the new one is good.I worried that this first gen M1 MBP will have issues :/ But don't buy it if you are doing video editing and Adobe work. It's slower than their older brothers. Thanks. |

I am really tempted to move to the new M1s from my 2016 15s.
But waiting for the newer MBPs to see what's the future lies for the entire lineup. |

Your case is very similar to my 12" MacBook, used only like 10-20 times a year but the display started to show discolouration. Apple refused to fix it for free and if I take it out to repair, it will cost around rm 3k. I might as well just get a new MBA with that. |

Initially want to get hp envy 13 but after seeing all the review might as well topup a "bit" and get M1 macbook air instead.
Microsoft productivity software is avaliable right? It's been a long time since I last use Mac. That time use boot camp to load up windows. So not sure what is the current scenarios. Do I need to have something like boot camp or does the software (office) natively available? |

I hope there's a 12" Macbook with Apple M1 and chiclet keyboard. Make a lot of sense using the M1 in the tiny chassis.

Are there any issues with running the x86 software on emulation on the M1 laptops? Or we have to wait until the native M1 apps are available?

What I have seen so far regarding x86 emulation:- Rosetta 2, runs x86 mac software, so far seems quite good. - Crossover, suppose to run windows x86 software, not sure how good it is - Parallels running Debian 10 (Linux), was shown briefly during wwdc 2020 - Steam game not being able to play, people trying to play steam games but getting error |

QUOTE(stgian211 @ Nov 24 2020, 10:15 AM) how long after SIRIM approval does it get to store shelves? Do you have any estimates? I need to get one before December and I am almost considering getting another laptop (very urgent) Sometimes, approved already doesn't mean that Apple would be eager to sell it. For example, iPhone 12, they approved 1 day before announcement day but ended up retracted the SIRIM approval and then, waited for almost a month to start selling here. So the line is pretty vague on when they will start selling. But of course, let's estimate a date. Leakers said that Apple have something planned for the holidays = December/Christmas which means they might do a press release announcement on the 7 8 or 9th December and release their new stuff on the next week's Friday. Sometimes, Apple love to put their pre-orders together with other products in other countries so I'm guessing around 6th or 12th Dec for pre-order and the following week to be in stores. |

Still in a dilemma, not too sure to get the Macbook Pro M1 or the Macbook Air M1. Tend to favour towards the MBP with the active cooling but logically the laptop would be used mostly for standard productivity stuff so logically I should stick with the MBA M1.

I'd rather fork out extra money for that extra fan and core to compensate for that extra bit of longevity (who knows future MacOS is more demanding since their chips are so powerful right now) |

Looking forward to get my hands on the 13 inch Pro M1.
Was contemplating between Air and Pro, but the fan-less design led me to lean towards the Pro instead. Switching from 16 Pro to 13 due to portability. Hopefully we’ll get it by early/mid Dec. |

Visited iStore at Publika yesterday and noticed that they no longer displaying MacBook Pro and Air. The only model for that is on display is the 16”. As expected the salesperson mentioned no dates for the release. However judging from this setup, I guess it is pretty soon.

QUOTE(The7thSaint @ Dec 1 2020, 06:18 PM) How has the experience been mate? Is it as good as they say it is? Benchmarks aside, the entire user experience, smoothness, etc.I'm just really looking for a smoother experience with an app called "Thinkorswim" and if anyone's got any experience with TOS on M1, give a shout hey. |

QUOTE(GenDevil @ Dec 2 2020, 03:05 PM) you are right, Thai also release already. whoever is the Malaysia or main distributor that supply to Malaysia really cause us slow release every time. Hence why a lot of businesses tend to setup shop in Singapore and even Thailand. A lot easier to do business there. Over here, too many clauses for foreign companies to setup shop. |

So I just called Publika and he said, "Very very.....very soon. Don't buy on Carousell Sir, you will regret" What does a person like me do? I go check on Carousell. https://www.carousell.com.my/p/apple-m1-chi...sort_by=popular RM6,000 instead of RM5,600. So a RM400 premium to get it today. hokkianu liked this post

Hi sifus, I’m planning to get a mbp13”, and I have 2 questions:-
1. Which one is better, the 6,399 with M1 chip or the 7,999 with 2.0 quad core i5? 2. Are there any news that’s the 14” is coming soon? Coz i’d grab a 14” anytime over the 13” Tyvm! This post has been edited by dikae: Dec 9 2020, 06:53 PM |

QUOTE(dikae @ Dec 9 2020, 07:48 PM) Next month is 2021 I used the i9 16”, 16gb and currently running on the 8gb MBP. It’s as good as the rumours and reviewers say. It does things faster than my 16” but it doesn’t spin the fans.Heard that the m1 pro basic is as powerful as the 16” basic? Is that true? I have the mba basic too, and have compared the two. I’m sticking with the MBA cuz the difference in performance for WHAT I DO, which is reading business news, typing, and using “thinkorswim”, the difference is non-existent I edited and rendered a 5 minute video (4K) with very basic colour correction, a background song, some text, and the MBA was 30 seconds slower to render. A total of 4 minutes vs 3.30. Scrubbing 🧽 was super similar, no lag nothing. So the user experience is similar. I do have a 5% voucher to order any MBP if anyone’s interested. You just need to give me a RM100 deposit, I’ll order and pay first, and you can give me the remaining when the laptop arrives. However, it will arrive only late December to early January, cuz of the supply limitation faizalmzain liked this post

QUOTE(dikae @ Dec 10 2020, 11:01 AM) thanks bro for all the review. So my MBP is now in its box, waiting to be brought back to Melaka to be used as my family's media player. I'm not even going to sell it off, because it's unfair to buy an Intel Mac when the M1's are available. The thing runs hotter, and is for some reason, feels less smooth compared to my baseline MBA. so does it mean the new M1 air/pro outperforms the 16" in every ways (including battery)? if its so means the 16" became redundant for now compare to the new M1 chip units? until they put the new chip in the 16"? Like it's hard to explain but the entire experience off the fanless MBA is, just snappier than the MBP 16", especially once you get it going with a few tasks. When I say few, I mean, typically I run; 1. Thinkorswim 2. Stock news sites 3. YouTube on one monitor to keep an eye on the market movement 4. An Excel sheet to record my trades That's literally all I do 90% of the time, and the MBP will run at 70-80C and the fans become quite audible. I just don't understand why but the M1 MBA does not do this. Also at 70-80C, you cannot use the MBP on your lap. I do this thing where I hinge the tip of the MBP on my thigh while majority of the laptop is dangling off. It's quite a circus worthy of Russian circus standards if you ask me. At this point, unless you NEED the Intel's, I think there's really no good reason to even bother with Intel Macs in my unwarranted opinion. |

Also I can’t imagine how powerful on the next 16” with apple chips... |

Was actually in a dilemma about the 2 ports as well. As usually, I have a few items plugged in at 1 time.
- SSD While Video Editing - External Microphone - CaptureCard for Camera Now the 4th I'm guessing is for Power. However, I just ordered my Pro anyway because I think dongles would come in handy then. This post has been edited by lilac: Dec 10 2020, 04:09 PM |

just wanted to confirm, M1 screen size and Intel screen size no difference right
They're both 13.3" right? For some reason i read places, they said M1 is 13.3" while Intel is 13" (but afaik, they normally round the .3", just like 15.6" round to 15") |

By the way, Maybank is offering 0% installment till 31/12. To those who wish to buy using education price through Apple Online yet want to do installment for better cash flow. This is the perfect timing . ☺️
I just placed my customized MBP on 13/12. Hopefully it will ship before 31/12 (appear in transaction) for me to apply Ezy Pay Plus! Fingers crossed! |

QUOTE(homeboytomato @ Dec 18 2020, 09:44 AM) I own a macbook air 2020, and I must say a cover is necessary if you are going to bring it around, keeping it in bag and moving around will make the aluminium chassis prone to scratching. my RM 30 transparent plastic casing from shopee worked wonders, took lots of scratches and bumps (you never know when you will hit something)!I bought this for my macbook pro (same seller for my MBA's cover): Macbook pro 13" transparent casing |

I’d suggest to skin it via Dbrand than to put on a bulky casing.

![]() ![]() Get the vinyl skin for both sides. I usually pack my MacBook Pro in a sling back and it does offer quite good protection. Also, the higher quality ones matches with the colour of your product so it will look naked. Best part, it barely adds any weight unlike a plastic case. Ziet Inv liked this post

I notice Switch only display space grey MBP but not silver. Dunno y. They only have the 2017 Macbook Silver colour with the lighted logo at the back. The promoter at Harvey Norman said space grey is the new colour.

Storage can helpful for video editing when the project needs to be pre-rendered (proxy) within the timeline (FCPX sometimes can eat up to 200 - 300 gb storage for this shet). Last time I edit a 25 mins 1080p video without turning off the auto pre-rendering, end up hitting my 256GB cap within a week lol!RAM on the other hand, abit subjective. 8GB should be enough to get by I guess. I personally feel external ssd abit cumbersome for this purpose, the internal storage can be handy for moments like this But yes, rare use cases only, not everyone needs it This post has been edited by Ziet Inv: Dec 21 2020, 10:11 AM |

Hey guys, is the 8GB RAM enough for simple tasks like;
- watching videos (YouTube, Netflix, 4K ones) - multi tasking between Microsoft apps (Excel, PPT, Word) - some design editing (Photoshop, Illustrator) - simple video editing Not all at once of course. Looking at the 16GB RAM for extra RM800 feels very expensive and lame, haha. Coming from PC. |

When will the transaction appear in credit card? “Preparing to ship” or “Shipped”. Afraid can’t catch the 0% Ezy Pay Plus installment plan ending 31/12 by Maybank. 😟 Expected delivery date is 11-18 Jan
Still can change the credit card payment option as long as they haven’t charged me yet? |

Hey guys first time Macbook purchaser here, just ordered on Apple Store. Any accessories/brand you guys would recommend?
Will definitely need a usb c to usb a converter, looking for some affordable and reputable ones besides buying from apple itself (which is super expensive haha). |

Actually one of the biggest feat of this M1 Macbooks are the temperature. You know those Intel chips gets real hot when doing casual browsing / streaming, and when you place them on your laps, those are 'lap burners' - while this doesn't feel warm at all. Now this is a proper 'laptop'. raining again, eikozai, and 1 other liked this post

I think u need to do some research regarding the difference between Apple M1 and Intel chipset. Try to understand the core issues, why Apple are moving away from Intel . Both are very different system. It seems like you are trying to compare your Intel Windows PC experience spec into a (whole new M1 chipset) Macbook, which isn't using the same Intel architecture anymore. Rather than trying to make the New M1 to fit your Intel spec, its far more useful to try and understand what's the M1 unified chipset about first. And why the M1 isn't same as Intel. By then, you'd probably better know what you're investing into(not an Intel Architecture). And hopefully learn that Intel has been causing too much trouble for the MacBook performance, heat and battery issues etc. Tips 1: The Apple/Intel conflict history helps you the perspective and clarity you are looking for. Tips 2: You may also find the M1 8gb unified memory act more equivalent to 16GB ram of a standard Intel Laptop. If u r upgrading to unified M1 16GB, that's means u are actually getting more of an equivalent of 32GB ram, Intel laptop. You can find on the YouTube where many reviewers has been testing it's ram capacity and found out it's 8GB unified acts more like a 16GB. Tips 3: Why the M1 8core gpu can play AAA games like Witcher 3, when never before Intel Iris graphic cards could do that? Tips 4: Why the new M1 Processor can play back 4k videos smoothly, when even the highest spec MacBook Pro 16 inch Intel chipset Core i7/i9 couldn't play back without stuttering. Tips 5: Why the Apple M1 able to reach 20 hours of battery life but not Intel i5/i7 MacBooks? This post has been edited by raining again: Jan 6 2021, 02:41 AM |

Try to understand the core issues, why Apple are moving away from Intel . Both are very different system. Damn, these info came at the right time.It seems like you are trying to compare your Intel Windows PC experience spec into a (whole new M1 chipset) Macbook, which isn't using the same Intel architecture anymore. Tips 5: Why the Apple M1 able to reach 20 hours of battery life but not Intel i5/i7 MacBooks? i was struggling on deciding 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM as well. I am planning to edit some FHD videos using Final Cut Pro. Seem like 8GB will be just fine. raining again liked this post

Really depends on your usage, for most cases - the Air will do just fine.dilemma habis ni.. This time the Pro range is just 'entry' level Pro with 2 ports, the higher Pro variants has 4 ports - thats what distinguish the Pro from the Air previously. Now it's just the matter of touchbar, shape, 1 extra core and probably some speaker / mic enhancement. Very minor differences. |

hello, need advise on this.
so i ordered a mbp with wrong specs on 1st jan, cancelled it next day on 2nd jan...today spoke to the bank, they say the amount is still floating (which means apple have not officially cancel it on their side), but bank say after 7 days any floating will be cancelled automatically so they ask me to check again on the 9th or 10th. apple account stated cancelled and have not been billed (still processing when I cancel the order). i wanna re-order different specs now, and im wondering if its safe to do so or just wait for bank to clear everything before making new purchases? any advise? tyvm |

QUOTE(andrewtho @ Jan 8 2021, 10:46 PM) Welcome onboard, but you’re at the wrong thread 😅 Its the Macbook pro M1 16GB 1 TB configuration. This is for Macbooks with M1 chips. But anyway, the 16 inch is a beast, especially the Core i9 variant. Unfortunately it heats up way too much and its not as portable as the 13inch for me. Pardon my lack of emphasis on M1 chip, I thought its a given since Im posting on "MAcbook Pro M1" thread. This post has been edited by NUR_VER.3: Jan 8 2021, 11:28 PM Xnet liked this post

Just received Macbook Pro yesterday. Got some problems. Was too eager to start everything and set up. Accidentally installed “Casio” antivirus. Then decided to start all over again so I followed d steps to erase everything and reinstalled Mac Big Sur.
Was asked which disc to install, either Mac HD or Data. I chose HD but can’t, so chose Data instead. Now it’s taking 2 hours to reinstall....... This post has been edited by homeboytomato: Jan 13 2021, 02:14 PM |

But I heard Macs these days dont need antivirus, now with the arm based chip the different architecture seems to make it more difficult to be infected. Of course, due dillegence in surfing and downloading is needed lol Hope everything goes well bro, I also wonder how to reinstall/reformat the macbooks never use mac before so Im totally newbie haha. |

QUOTE(homeboytomato @ Jan 13 2021, 02:16 PM) Thanks! Now MCO 2.0, perfect timing to learn how to use Mac. Wanna learn how to encrypt photos. The File Vault Encryption Software seems to be pre-installed but dunno how to use yet. Very complicated compared to Windows 😂 File Vault, you just turn it on and that's it, entire SSD is encrypted. Note down and keep the recovery key. Of course, don't forget your password. |

Just got my hand on the MacBook Pro base model.
Got it from IT World @ Starling Mall yesterday. Switching from a 20 years old Windows user to MacOs, I must say I am very impressed with the overall setup and UI. Glad to join the Macbook world. |

No better or worse, it all depends on software support in your case. Since your criteria are those compiler apps and the need to support multiple monitors, then the question is rather moot. Hi guys, just want to quickly ask how long does it take for Apple to fully ship a customized m1 mbp starting from order placed to delivery?
I’ve placed my order on 24th jan and till today 5 days later the status still shows “Processing”. My actual eta is on 8th - 16th of Feb. First time buying on apple MY website, felt a lil nervous. Tq ya This post has been edited by Ashroft98: Jan 29 2021, 07:01 PM |

That is because I customised my MBA M1 (16Gb and 512Gb SSD) and didn't get any of the base spec models which they had stock for. Hence they couldn't promise the exact time it would take. I ordered mine on the 5th of Jan, will follow up with them next week. Not in any hurry as I recently received a MBP M1 at work as well so still get to play with one. |

QUOTE(Eithanius @ Jan 31 2021, 10:46 AM) MBA haven greater demands compare to Pro for this generation, so its normal for MBA purchases to have longer waiting period compare to MBP purchases.I waited 3 weeks+ to get mine on hand when i placed my MBA order on 12th December, same spec as what u ordered. Received only on 5th January. Its still earlier than the promised date from Apple, which initially stated to be delivered between 13th Jan to 20th Jan 2021. |

USB C ports on hubs aren’t ideal enough for constant charging etc. Hmm... why dont u get the updated usb c hub version with 60hz hdmi from LAZADA? https://www.lazada.com.my//products/i142493...dZ&urlFlag=true Regarding the updated USB C hub, I did survey it before buying but I’ve a hunch that there would be too many ports for 1 USB C to cater, even when not using all of them simulataneously. I already knew I didn’t need the VGA and extra USB 3.0 ports. Plus I’d also like the RJ45 / HDMI cable to be at the end of the hub and not on the sides of it. Just a design preference |

Woah thanks for bringing this up! I have been using PD with my Satechi USB-C hub all this while as well as the UGreen one! So far so good on my MBP M1

As long the hub still works after the connection of many peripherals, it should be still fine... I generally just need 2 USB 3.0 & 1 HDMI... RJ-45, is not quite necessaryRegarding the updated USB C hub, I did survey it before buying but I’ve a hunch that there would be too many ports for 1 USB C to cater, even when not using all of them simulataneously. MBP 16/512
24/1 Ordered (ETA 8-16th Feb) 1/2 Card Charged 2/2 Preparing To Ship 3/2 Shipped (ETA 11th Feb) Now in the tracking website still only shows “shipment picked up” at Shanghai. It also shows next destination as KL - Malaysia. Means no need to transit at S’pore first? |
