still 720p FaceTime HD camera... my god... but the keynote like saying the camera is sharper and has better image under low light?

but same resolution??

one thing to note that the new macbook pro with M1 only has Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. no more 4 ports option...

besides, all the three new macs are having the exact same M1 chip. look likes it is due to the active cooling that makes the macbook pro performs even better than air?

Same story with intel macs again. Apple is using thermal limits to differentiate performance between MBA and MBP.

ssd/memory : is not user accessible. If you think you may need more storage capacity in the future, consider upgrading at the time of purchase

mac mini / mba / mbp , all not upgradeable . (here , accessible also written on intel macs on mba and mbp ....

Interested on the new M1 chipped MBP, price seemed lower than Intel's? Just wondering how the apps gonna be like. I'm heavy Chrome user, do I still get full Desktop Chrome or it's gonna be iOS version of Chrome?

That's the whole point of the M1 chip, to be faster and more efficient than intel chips.

Impressive scores! drool.gif If the battery life is the same as what they claim to be, Intel should be really worried.

Wish they announced 16' based on the new silicone though.

The most worried part of this M1 chip, is the compatible with the applications.
Those who use for work i suggest wait and see.
Those who use for entertainment can buy anytime.

Was that the issue with the display ribbon cable. I think I've heard about it some years back and it was common on MacBook during that year, unfortunately.

not sure. apple's solution is to change the display, need to pay for labour charge too...

it is not cheap either. becos my macbook pro battery is bloated. if want to repair the display, must change battery first else they won't carry out the work. therefore i buy a sgd220 dell 24" full HD monitor to use instead as the cost of repairing the display, is close to buying a new one already. i hardly bring out my macbook pro, so it is still not too bad.

SGD? Ouch...

Since you don't bring out often, meaning you don't open/close the lid much as well? It was called "flexgate" and the display ribbon cable failed prematurely. Macbook from 2016 to 2018, yours fall within these years.

And crappy that they don't replace it under manufacturer's defect. Did you try writing directly to Apple? I managed to replace my battery once out of warranty, at 26th month old. Apple has an "undisclosed battery warranty" for up to 3 years, if I'm not mistaken.

yes. SGD.

they did not acknowledge that it is a manufacturer defects for my 2017 model. There is existing free repair programme for 2016 model.

you are rite, one year i bring my laptop out less than 10 times. so my laptop is always in the same stage that the lid is opened.

I was speaking to apple directly. I brought my macbook pro to apple orchard.

battery i managed to get it replaced once for free becos it was bloated. this round they did not repair for free becos of the repair of the display i supposed. but i dod believe, if I wait until my macbook pro battery to bloat until the stage like last time which I could not even close the lid fully, they will still replace it for free. i dun think they would rather replace it for free instead of seeing case where there is incident happened for their product due to bloated battery. haha. tongue.gif

you can test your website with iPad/iPhone.

If your iPad safari can open, meaning the MacBook can open. Hope this helps.

I worried that this first gen M1 MBP will have issues :/

Depends on what you are doing with your Mac. If you do e-mail, Safari browser and word processing work, the new one is good.

But don't buy it if you are doing video editing and Adobe work. It's slower than their older brothers.

Thanks. biggrin.gif

I am really tempted to move to the new M1s from my 2016 15s.

But waiting for the newer MBPs to see what's the future lies for the entire lineup.

Your case is very similar to my 12" MacBook, used only like 10-20 times a year but the display started to show discolouration. Apple refused to fix it for free and if I take it out to repair, it will cost around rm 3k. I might as well just get a new MBA with that.

YouTube video showing the test results of video editing

Check this video out. This is where I got the info.

All native Mac apps work just fine.

Just those of third party apps that require more work to get them translated to the M1 chip.

Initially want to get hp envy 13 but after seeing all the review might as well topup a "bit" and get M1 macbook air instead.

Microsoft productivity software is avaliable right? It's been a long time since I last use Mac. That time use boot camp to load up windows. So not sure what is the current scenarios.

Do I need to have something like boot camp or does the software (office) natively available?

I hope there's a 12" Macbook with Apple M1 and chiclet keyboard. Make a lot of sense using the M1 in the tiny chassis.

looks like apple has no such plan.

i always think that 12", 14" and 16" will make the complete line-up for different needs.

i always find having same size macbook air and pro are totally redundant. tongue.gif
especially now both models are using same chips and the gaps are rather small...

Are there any issues with running the x86 software on emulation on the M1 laptops? Or we have to wait until the native M1 apps are available?

What I have seen so far regarding x86 emulation:

- Rosetta 2, runs x86 mac software, so far seems quite good.
- Crossover, suppose to run windows x86 software, not sure how good it is
- Parallels running Debian 10 (Linux), was shown briefly during wwdc 2020
- Steam game not being able to play, people trying to play steam games but getting error

how long after approval does it get to store shelves? Do you have any estimates? I need to get one before December and I am almost considering getting another laptop (very urgent)

Sometimes, approved already doesn't mean that Apple would be eager to sell it. For example, iPhone 12, they approved 1 day before announcement day but ended up retracted the SIRIM approval and then, waited for almost a month to start selling here.

So the line is pretty vague on when they will start selling.

But of course, let's estimate a date. Leakers said that Apple have something planned for the holidays = December/Christmas which means they might do a press release announcement on the 7 8 or 9th December and release their new stuff on the next week's Friday. Sometimes, Apple love to put their pre-orders together with other products in other countries so I'm guessing around 6th or 12th Dec for pre-order and the following week to be in stores.

I'm actually building an app that can notify a user whenever a new product is approved by SIRIM.

Still in a dilemma, not too sure to get the Macbook Pro M1 or the Macbook Air M1. Tend to favour towards the MBP with the active cooling but logically the laptop would be used mostly for standard productivity stuff so logically I should stick with the MBA M1.

If 1 thing I've learnt from my MacBook Air 13" (2020), although not comparable to M1 chip, is to always budget for 3-5 years down the road punya performance requirement.

Initially bought my MBA where I thought I will be editing 1 video a month, end up editing like 3 videos weekly + lots of work requiring 8-10 safari tabs for my research and content creation purpose.

I'd rather fork out extra money for that extra fan and core to compensate for that extra bit of longevity (who knows future MacOS is more demanding since their chips are so powerful right now)

Yes, that is my thinking as well. Its meant to replace a 2011 MBA which I currently have and use. Just that most of the usage on it is mostly office productivity work and I have a desktop rig to do most of the heavy lifting stuff.

Most of the issues highlighted is software related.

FCP might have been ‘updated’, but it will still require more time to be fully optimized to the M1 chip.

Looking forward to get my hands on the 13 inch Pro M1.

Was contemplating between Air and Pro, but the fan-less design led me to lean towards the Pro instead. Switching from 16 Pro to 13 due to portability.

Hopefully we’ll get it by early/mid Dec.

Looking forward to get my hands on the 13 inch Pro M1.

Was contemplating between Air and Pro, but the fan-less design led me to lean towards the Pro instead. Switching from 16 Pro to 13 due to portability.

Hopefully we’ll get it by early/mid Dec.

Or you can wait for next year mid 2021....they will release with whole new design

Visited iStore at Publika yesterday and noticed that they no longer displaying MacBook Pro and Air. The only model for that is on display is the 16”. As expected the salesperson mentioned no dates for the release. However judging from this setup, I guess it is pretty soon.

How has the experience been mate? Is it as good as they say it is? Benchmarks aside, the entire user experience, smoothness, etc.

I'm just really looking for a smoother experience with an app called "Thinkorswim" and if anyone's got any experience with TOS on M1, give a shout hey.

Hence why a lot of businesses tend to setup shop in Singapore and even Thailand. A lot easier to do business there. Over here, too many clauses for foreign companies to setup shop.

So I just called Publika and he said, "Very very.....very soon. Don't buy on Carousell Sir, you will regret"

What does a person like me do? I go check on Carousell.

RM6,000 instead of RM5,600. So a RM400 premium to get it today.

Hi sifus, I’m planning to get a mbp13”, and I have 2 questions:-

1. Which one is better, the 6,399 with M1 chip or the 7,999 with 2.0 quad core i5?

2. Are there any news that’s the 14” is coming soon? Coz i’d grab a 14” anytime over the 13”

Tyvm!

I used the i9 16”, 16gb and currently running on the 8gb MBP. It’s as good as the rumours and reviewers say. It does things faster than my 16” but it doesn’t spin the fans.

I have the mba basic too, and have compared the two.

I’m sticking with the MBA cuz the difference in performance for WHAT I DO, which is reading business news, typing, and using “thinkorswim”, the difference is non-existent

I edited and rendered a 5 minute video (4K) with very basic colour correction, a background song, some text, and the MBA was 30 seconds slower to render. A total of 4 minutes vs 3.30. Scrubbing 🧽 was super similar, no lag nothing. So the user experience is similar.

I do have a 5% voucher to order any MBP if anyone’s interested. You just need to give me a RM100 deposit, I’ll order and pay first, and you can give me the remaining when the laptop arrives. However, it will arrive only late December to early January, cuz of the supply limitation

I used the i9 16”, 16gb and currently running on the 8gb MBP. It’s as good as the rumours and reviewers say. It does things faster than my 16” but it doesn’t spin the fans.

I have the mba basic too, and have compared the two.

thanks bro for all the review.

so does it mean the new M1 air/pro outperforms the 16" in every ways (including battery)? if its so means the 16" became redundant for now compare to the new M1 chip units? until they put the new chip in the 16"?

So my MBP is now in its box, waiting to be brought back to Melaka to be used as my family's media player. I'm not even going to sell it off, because it's unfair to buy an Intel Mac when the M1's are available. The thing runs hotter, and is for some reason, feels less smooth compared to my baseline MBA.

Like it's hard to explain but the entire experience off the fanless MBA is, just snappier than the MBP 16", especially once you get it going with a few tasks. When I say few, I mean, typically I run;

1. Thinkorswim
2. Stock news sites
3. YouTube on one monitor to keep an eye on the market movement
4. An Excel sheet to record my trades

That's literally all I do 90% of the time, and the MBP will run at 70-80C and the fans become quite audible. I just don't understand why but the M1 MBA does not do this.
Also at 70-80C, you cannot use the MBP on your lap. I do this thing where I hinge the tip of the MBP on my thigh while majority of the laptop is dangling off. It's quite a circus worthy of Russian circus standards if you ask me.

At this point, unless you NEED the Intel's, I think there's really no good reason to even bother with Intel Macs in my unwarranted opinion.

Thanks bro for sharing, very good and important review...so M1 is the way to go...now I’m dilemma if I should just wait or the 14” MBP which rumoured to come soon....

Also I can’t imagine how powerful on the next 16” with apple chips...biggrin.gif

Was actually in a dilemma about the 2 ports as well. As usually, I have a few items plugged in at 1 time.

- SSD While Video Editing
- External Microphone
- CaptureCard for Camera

Now the 4th I'm guessing is for Power. However, I just ordered my Pro anyway because I think dongles would come in handy then.

just wanted to confirm, M1 screen size and Intel screen size no difference right

They're both 13.3" right? For some reason i read places, they said M1 is 13.3" while Intel is 13" (but afaik, they normally round the .3", just like 15.6" round to 15")

Not bad for you though considering you didn't order the base spec and they can still schedule for delivery within a similar timeline for those who ordered the base spec.

By the way, Maybank is offering 0% installment till 31/12. To those who wish to buy using education price through Apple Online yet want to do installment for better cash flow. This is the perfect timing . ☺️

I just placed my customized MBP on 13/12. Hopefully it will ship before 31/12 (appear in transaction) for me to apply Ezy Pay Plus! Fingers crossed!

I own a macbook air 2020, and I must say a cover is necessary if you are going to bring it around, keeping it in bag and moving around will make the aluminium chassis prone to scratching. my RM 30 transparent plastic casing from shopee worked wonders, took lots of scratches and bumps (you never know when you will hit something)!

I bought this for my macbook pro (same seller for my MBA's cover): Macbook pro 13" transparent casing

I’d suggest to skin it via Dbrand than to put on a bulky casing.

Personal preference.

Get the vinyl skin for both sides. I usually pack my MacBook Pro in a sling back and it does offer quite good protection. Also, the higher quality ones matches with the colour of your product so it will look naked. Best part, it barely adds any weight unlike a plastic case.

Booked mine on the 10th 9.15am and upgraded it to 16gb and now it's 10 days in line waiting! hahaha

Tho- it's interesting tho the days gap -
Mine is 22-30th Dec - 8 Days
Andrewtho - 31th Dec -5th Jan- 4 Days
Prime27 - 12th Jan - 19th Jan - 6 Days

Wonder what's up with that.

I guess it only factors in business days, like some falls on weekend / PH so perhaps the dates were extended.

I am guessing that Apple’s waiting for the next batch to be shipped, hence the longer wait times - probably stock shortage at the moment.

I guess delivery times depends on stock availability, days gap see on delivery address or postcode?

I notice Switch only display space grey MBP but not silver. Dunno y. They only have the 2017 Macbook Silver colour with the lighted logo at the back. The promoter at Harvey Norman said space grey is the new colour.

Actually storage usually not really an issue, can always opt for external ssd.

RAM on the other hand, abit subjective. 8GB should be enough to get by I guess.

Storage can helpful for video editing when the project needs to be pre-rendered (proxy) within the timeline (FCPX sometimes can eat up to 200 - 300 gb storage for this shet). Last time I edit a 25 mins 1080p video without turning off the auto pre-rendering, end up hitting my 256GB cap within a week lol!

I personally feel external ssd abit cumbersome for this purpose, the internal storage can be handy for moments like this tongue.gif

But yes, rare use cases only, not everyone needs it

Hey guys, is the 8GB RAM enough for simple tasks like;
- watching videos (YouTube, Netflix, 4K ones)
- multi tasking between Microsoft apps (Excel, PPT, Word)
- some design editing (Photoshop, Illustrator)
- simple video editing

Not all at once of course. Looking at the 16GB RAM for extra RM800 feels very expensive and lame, haha. Coming from PC.

One thing you should note, the RAM is a unified memory, unlike your standard RAM.

It is more efficient in managing workflow memory consumption vs standard RAM. Based on your usage, 8GB should suffice.

But feel free to get the 16GB if you have doubts. I don’t believe in ‘future-proofing’ because at this day of age, we change our devices ever so often until it don’t even get a chance to live its usefulness lifespan.

Hi there, I see. Wasn't aware there's a difference in RAM. Now i know blush.gif

Sounds great, I'll get the 8GB one then. Don't have enough budget for the 16GB in the end haha. Cheers!

When will the transaction appear in credit card? “Preparing to ship” or “Shipped”. Afraid can’t catch the 0% Ezy Pay Plus installment plan ending 31/12 by Maybank. 😟 Expected delivery date is 11-18 Jan

Still can change the credit card payment option as long as they haven’t charged me yet?

It has to be posting date. Your chance is slim. Should've just walk in to Apple reseller and customise one and let them charge you immediately.

Hey guys first time Macbook purchaser here, just ordered on Apple Store. Any accessories/brand you guys would recommend?

Will definitely need a usb c to usb a converter, looking for some affordable and reputable ones besides buying from apple itself (which is super expensive haha).

Yea! Base model better just get straight from shop, but Lazada need to check if it's Hong Kong set, and might have warranty start earlier in November tho.

I think few shops around like TMT already have stock.

Its official Apple Malaysia unit actually because LazMall is also an AAP dealer in Malaysia, like Machines and Switch.

Hi, I ordered from LazMall’s Apple Store instead of Apple Online - the delivery date was far too long for me, so I cancelled and order from LazMall instead. It’s a same day delivery service, but need to place order before 12.30pm.

Should not be a problem.

64bit apps will be functional via Rosetta 2.

But if you can’t load certain apps, just buy 3 more Macs 🤪

Actually one of the biggest feat of this M1 Macbooks are the temperature.

You know those Intel chips gets real hot when doing casual browsing / streaming, and when you place them on your laps, those are 'lap burners' - while this doesn't feel warm at all.

Now this is a proper 'laptop'.

I second that.. not to worry anymore place it on top of bed/sofa/pillow and scare of overheating... if you put on your laps in aircon room. your laps will feel metal feels cold..

Is Apple Silicon Ready? is a good website to check.

But regarding your query, yes it runs natively now.

for me - yes, the texture just doesn't make it very nice to type on for long period of time.

I take it off when I was typing and ensure no water surrounding me. Put it back on when I was watching movies etc.

I have this habit of watching movie while eating. 😅

I think I can live with that. Unplugged since 12pm, I have 48% left now. Had a couple hours break to go for dinner.

Still miles better than my old MBP.

Oh, and I just realised, it power up from shutdown if I tap/press on trackpad. I realised even the any key could power it up. It's the standard behaviour since 2018 model.

8GB unified memory, is it sufficient? I'm currently a window user and want to move to MAC. So seeking your advise. Also went I add 16GB and hard disk to 1TB it almost same price with 2.0GHz Intel Core i5 Quad-Core Processor with Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1TB Storage. So need some advise on choosing.

I think u need to do some research regarding the difference between Apple M1 and Intel chipset. Try to understand the core issues, why Apple are moving away from Intel . Both are very different system.

It seems like you are trying to compare your Intel Windows PC experience spec into a (whole new M1 chipset) Macbook, which isn't using the same Intel architecture anymore.

Rather than trying to make the New M1 to fit your Intel spec, its far more useful to try and understand what's the M1 unified chipset about first. And why the M1 isn't same as Intel.

By then, you'd probably better know what you're investing into(not an Intel Architecture).

And hopefully learn that Intel has been causing too much trouble for the MacBook performance, heat and battery issues etc.

Tips 1: The Apple/Intel conflict history helps you the perspective and clarity you are looking for. cool2.gif

Tips 2: You may also find the M1 8gb unified memory act more equivalent to 16GB ram of a standard Intel Laptop. If u r upgrading to unified M1 16GB, that's means u are actually getting more of an equivalent of 32GB ram, Intel laptop. You can find on the YouTube where many reviewers has been testing it's ram capacity and found out it's 8GB unified acts more like a 16GB.

Tips 3: Why the M1 8core gpu can play AAA games like Witcher 3, when never before Intel Iris graphic cards could do that?

Tips 4: Why the new M1 Processor can play back 4k videos smoothly, when even the highest spec MacBook Pro 16 inch Intel chipset Core i7/i9 couldn't play back without stuttering.

Tips 5: Why the Apple M1 able to reach 20 hours of battery life but not Intel i5/i7 MacBooks?

Thank you so much. Yes I did several research and found the M1 is better than Intel and upgrading to 16GB memory is waste of money because more or less it’s the same based on several stress or memory test done on YouTube. I’m clear now. Thank you.

For most users, 8GB unified memory is sufficient. 16GB is fine, if you have the additional budget and plan to have an ease of mind without worrying about bottlenecks.

Now you can buy your new M1 Macbook with ease.

Firstly, identify what do you do on your current PC and find out if Apple M1 has same (or similar) software support.

Wow.

Considered my self lucky (?), most of the app that I needed working in M1 (from Intel Mac). Now just wait for Google Drive sync app to support M1.

Damn, these info came at the right time.

i was struggling on deciding 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM as well. I am planning to edit some FHD videos using Final Cut Pro.
Seem like 8GB will be just fine.

Unless you are rushing for deadlines to edit and export your videos, waiting that extra few minutes doesn't really hurt. 8Gb unified memory is more than enough. That being said, I was quite kiasu so I went and purchased 16Gb instead, and this is with the known reason of wanting to use it for browsing, minor photo editing and light video editing LOL

Really depends on your usage, for most cases - the Air will do just fine.

This time the Pro range is just 'entry' level Pro with 2 ports, the higher Pro variants has 4 ports - thats what distinguish the Pro from the Air previously. Now it's just the matter of touchbar, shape, 1 extra core and probably some speaker / mic enhancement. Very minor differences.

in addition to that, don't forget that pro also has longer battery life compared to the air.. i kinda regretted slightly after getting the air coz i saw another review that the pro could last 3 or 4 hours more than the air but so far on real world usage, i have not managed to fully drain the air battery yet.. if longer battery life is what you need, the pro should be considered as well.

i picked pro for the extra fans for peace of mind and not to mention pro has way better battery life on real world usage.. around 7 hours more compare to air..

straight jump to 10:40 for the battery life comparison..

mirror lag, but you can notice the zoom is slow.

but i got another issue when i zoom and teamviewer at the same time, and i move mouse in teamviewer i can hear the zoom sound is broken.

i suspect because some of the software are not fully support on m1 yet..

hello, need advise on this.
so i ordered a mbp with wrong specs on 1st jan, cancelled it next day on 2nd jan...today spoke to the bank, they say the amount is still floating (which means apple have not officially cancel it on their side), but bank say after 7 days any floating will be cancelled automatically so they ask me to check again on the 9th or 10th. apple account stated cancelled and have not been billed (still processing when I cancel the order).

i wanna re-order different specs now, and im wondering if its safe to do so or just wait for bank to clear everything before making new purchases? any advise? tyvm

Noted, thank you for your advice.

Is it delivered by DHL? Mind to share delivery date stated in email from Apple?

The estimated delivery date was between 6th jan to 13th jan as given from the Apple store app in my iphone
, I ordered it from the online Apple store.

I got it yesterday (7th Jan) rclxm9.gif

The tracking number given by apple wasnt all that reliable though, they shipped mine directly from Apple shanghai store on 2nd jan, and only on 6th they updated the tracking stated it was already in Malaysia, on the next day they sent an email saying "the package will be delivered today"

I ordered it the exact date when they opened the sale from Apple store, which on late Dec I think. They started to deduct the payments when its ready for shipping, which is on 2nd jan if im not mistaken.

1st, throw away that mouse.
2nd, try to live without right-click drag. It's difficult in Mac w/o a mouse (that's because of 1st)
3rd, live with the inconsistent shortcut key structure in Mac.

Other than these, I think everything is good.

My estimated delivery date was between 12th to 19th Jan. Shipped from Shanghai on 5th, arrived KL today morning.
I expect today or tomorrow shall receive it, but when I ask DHL, she said follow Apple's email which is 15th
That's why I feel weird, , from KL to my place JB cost 7 days ranting.gif

Palm rejection is excellent too, with that trackpad being such a huge size.

Windows could never do that... Haven't experience Microsoft's own devices though. Their might be not bad.

Welcome onboard, but you’re at the wrong thread 😅

This is for Macbooks with M1 chips.

But anyway, the 16 inch is a beast, especially the Core i9 variant. Unfortunately it heats up way too much and its not as portable as the 13inch for me.
*
Its the Macbook pro M1 16GB 1 TB configuration. laugh.gif

Pardon my lack of emphasis on M1 chip, I thought its a given since Im posting on "MAcbook Pro M1" thread.

Just received Macbook Pro yesterday. Got some problems. Was too eager to start everything and set up. Accidentally installed “Casio” antivirus. Then decided to start all over again so I followed d steps to erase everything and reinstalled Mac Big Sur.

Was asked which disc to install, either Mac HD or Data. I chose HD but can’t, so chose Data instead. Now it’s taking 2 hours to reinstall.......

Never heard of "Casio" Antivirus lol.

But I heard Macs these days dont need antivirus, now with the arm based chip the different architecture seems to make it more difficult to be infected.

Of course, due dillegence in surfing and downloading is needed lol

Hope everything goes well bro, I also wonder how to reinstall/reformat the macbooks never use mac before so Im totally newbie haha.

Thanks! Now MCO 2.0, perfect timing to learn how to use Mac. Wanna learn how to encrypt photos. The File Vault Encryption Software seems to be pre-installed but dunno how to use yet. Very complicated compared to Windows 😂

File Vault, you just turn it on and that's it, entire SSD is encrypted. Note down and keep the recovery key. Of course, don't forget your password.

Just got my hand on the MacBook Pro base model.
Got it from IT World @ Starling Mall yesterday.

Switching from a 20 years old Windows user to MacOs, I must say I am very impressed with the overall setup and UI.

Glad to join the Macbook world.

Odd question here, but does anyone uses Pixelmator Pro as opposed to Lightroom?

Can't install cracked Lightroom so looking for alternatives edit photos and colour correct (mainly for casual edits) + i saw Pixelmator can enhance resolution through Machine Learning!

Same here, I totally forgot about Shopback. Later after the purchase only go check. *sigh* Anyway I used HLB 20% cashback. TnC says no cap so hopefully that works out.

Depends on the compiler apps that you wish to use. No better or worse, it all depends on software support in your case. Since your criteria are those compiler apps and the need to support multiple monitors, then the question is rather moot.

buy M1 and keep your old MacBook.

if new m1 not support the compilers, still can move to old MacBook.

say if you really dun like m1 at all, just sell it 2nd hand, I am sure many ppl will ask. you won't lose much.

Nope. MBP13 has a heatsink fan. But it's hardly kick in. Even if it does, it's hardly audible.

Hi guys, just want to quickly ask how long does it take for Apple to fully ship a customized m1 mbp starting from order placed to delivery?

I’ve placed my order on 24th jan and till today 5 days later the status still shows “Processing”. My actual eta is on 8th - 16th of Feb. First time buying on apple MY website, felt a lil nervous.

Did you go through this thread? Someone may have posted their order to delivery timeline. You can look here too:

Quite a few responses there though they're from all across the world, The ones from Singapore may give you an idea. Don't remember if anyone from Malaysia posted there.

My order looked like this but it's a Mac Mini 16/256.
13/1 Ordered (ETA: 28/1 - 4/2)
14/1 Card Charged
16/1 Preparing to Ship
16/1 Shipped (ETA: 25/1)
19/1 Out for Delivery & Delivered

That is because I customised my MBA M1 (16Gb and 512Gb SSD) and didn't get any of the base spec models which they had stock for. Hence they couldn't promise the exact time it would take. I ordered mine on the 5th of Jan, will follow up with them next week. Not in any hurry as I recently received a MBP M1 at work as well so still get to play with one.

Ah I see. Still quite a long wait for customised macs. I’m not sure if I’m able to be that patient.

Looks like we are on the same boat. I’m considering to give Apple MY a call to ask for order updates since it’s been a week since we ordered. Also just to rule out there’s no problem with the payment etc.

Ideally i hope that there is a price revision, since apple Malaysia priced these things where 1USD=4.30MYR x1.03

MBA haven greater demands compare to Pro for this generation, so its normal for MBA purchases to have longer waiting period compare to MBP purchases.

I waited 3 weeks+ to get mine on hand when i placed my MBA order on 12th December, same spec as what u ordered.
Received only on 5th January. Its still earlier than the promised date from Apple, which initially stated to be delivered between 13th Jan to 20th Jan 2021.

Thats interesting regarding new MBA vs MBP demand. Initially it gave the estimated date of about a month yet it arrived earlier. Nice.

Which USB C hub are you guys using?

Update: A quick reading on the Web mentions that don't use a USB hub that has PD charging.. It may brick ur macbook! the non-pd ones no issue

Never heard about this usb c hub bricking macbook before. However, I already ordered a ugreen usb c hub bought at shopee. But haven’t tested it yet as both the hub and macbook havent arrived yet :’)

I’m planning to use usb c port on the macbook itself for charging. And the usb c at the hub is for time machine backup ssd.

I'll stick a note at my USB C hub's USB C port, remind everyone not to plug in any charging brick onto it, but only for peripherals.

Hmm... why dont u get the updated usb c hub version with 60hz hdmi from LAZADA?

Agreed. USB C ports on hubs aren’t ideal enough for constant charging etc.

Regarding the updated USB C hub, I did survey it before buying but I’ve a hunch that there would be too many ports for 1 USB C to cater, even when not using all of them simulataneously. I already knew I didn’t need the VGA and extra USB 3.0 ports.

Plus I’d also like the RJ45 / HDMI cable to be at the end of the hub and not on the sides of it. Just a design preference smile.gif

Woah thanks for bringing this up! I have been using PD with my Satechi USB-C hub all this while as well as the UGreen one! So far so good on my MBP M1

Edit: Found this list of known hubs

Icic... As long the hub still works after the connection of many peripherals, it should be still fine... I generally just need 2 USB 3.0 & 1 HDMI... RJ-45, is not quite necessary

yeah... quite taken away by it, even some PD monitors can brick the M1 macbooks... i never thought of charging the computer via the PD ports and there is no way to disabling it on the hub, i prefer if there is something that just give more power for the ports...

maybe i'll select one of the Ugreen that has no PD but got additional MicroUSB to give more power boost for the USB C hub

MBP 16/512

24/1 Ordered (ETA 8-16th Feb)
1/2 Card Charged
2/2 Preparing To Ship
3/2 Shipped (ETA 11th Feb)

Now in the tracking website still only shows “shipment picked up” at Shanghai. It also shows next destination as KL - Malaysia. Means no need to transit at S’pore first? brows.gif

As I know, it won't transit at SG. Normally in HK but it won't update in DHL tracking due to they policy. All Apple Shipment, will only update Pickup and once reach destination. In between updates, will not appeared in their website.

It will at least take 2-3 days to reach Malaysia due to flight limitation.
