Hi sifus, I’m planning to get a mbp13”, and I have 2 questions:-

1. Which one is better, the 6,399 with M1 chip or the 7,999 with 2.0 quad core i5?

2. Are there any news that’s the 14” is coming soon? Coz i’d grab a 14” anytime over the 13”

Tyvm!

1. M1 chip, no doubt about that.

2. 14"? Rumoured to be released in 2021.

Next month is 2021 laugh.gif thinking if I should hold back...

Heard that the m1 pro basic is as powerful as the 16” basic? Is that true?

I used the i9 16”, 16gb and currently running on the 8gb MBP. It’s as good as the rumours and reviewers say. It does things faster than my 16” but it doesn’t spin the fans.

I have the mba basic too, and have compared the two.

I’m sticking with the MBA cuz the difference in performance for WHAT I DO, which is reading business news, typing, and using “thinkorswim”, the difference is non-existent

I edited and rendered a 5 minute video (4K) with very basic colour correction, a background song, some text, and the MBA was 30 seconds slower to render. A total of 4 minutes vs 3.30. Scrubbing 🧽 was super similar, no lag nothing. So the user experience is similar.

I do have a 5% voucher to order any MBP if anyone’s interested. You just need to give me a RM100 deposit, I’ll order and pay first, and you can give me the remaining when the laptop arrives. However, it will arrive only late December to early January, cuz of the supply limitation

thanks bro for all the review.

so does it mean the new M1 air/pro outperforms the 16" in every ways (including battery)? if its so means the 16" became redundant for now compare to the new M1 chip units? until they put the new chip in the 16"?

So my MBP is now in its box, waiting to be brought back to Melaka to be used as my family's media player. I'm not even going to sell it off, because it's unfair to buy an Intel Mac when the M1's are available. The thing runs hotter, and is for some reason, feels less smooth compared to my baseline MBA.

Like it's hard to explain but the entire experience off the fanless MBA is, just snappier than the MBP 16", especially once you get it going with a few tasks. When I say few, I mean, typically I run;

1. Thinkorswim
2. Stock news sites
3. YouTube on one monitor to keep an eye on the market movement
4. An Excel sheet to record my trades

That's literally all I do 90% of the time, and the MBP will run at 70-80C and the fans become quite audible. I just don't understand why but the M1 MBA does not do this.
Also at 70-80C, you cannot use the MBP on your lap. I do this thing where I hinge the tip of the MBP on my thigh while majority of the laptop is dangling off. It's quite a circus worthy of Russian circus standards if you ask me.

At this point, unless you NEED the Intel's, I think there's really no good reason to even bother with Intel Macs in my unwarranted opinion.

Thanks bro for sharing, very good and important review...so M1 is the way to go...now I’m dilemma if I should just wait or the 14” MBP which rumoured to come soon....

Also I can’t imagine how powerful on the next 16” with apple chips...biggrin.gif

Hey guys first time Macbook purchaser here, just ordered on Apple Store. Any accessories/brand you guys would recommend?

Will definitely need a usb c to usb a converter, looking for some affordable and reputable ones besides buying from apple itself (which is super expensive haha).
*
I also wanna know if there’s any good recommendation for hard or silicone case for the MacBook...or keyboard silicone protector?

Has anyone installed tempered glass on the MBP or it’s completely pointless ?not sure if it’ll damage the screen as there is very little space between the display and keyboard..

How about using a keyboard silicone cover, will it damage the display in long run? I have seen many uses a silicone keyboard cover despite apple’s disclaimer https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203671

Is it really that bad to type with a silicone cover? Not clicky? Or hard to type?

Unless you are rushing for deadlines to edit and export your videos, waiting that extra few minutes doesn't really hurt. 8Gb unified memory is more than enough. That being said, I was quite kiasu so I went and purchased 16Gb instead, and this is with the known reason of wanting to use it for browsing, minor photo editing and light video editing LOL
*
Now after using the 16gb do you find it overkill? or maybe should have went with the 8gb instead? biggrin.gif

just my two cent, i am heavy multitask user, 8gb ram is not enough for my usage, when i open photoshop with a 80mb file, my MBP ram swap usage goes up to 8gb. and my MBP start warming. usable, but got noticeable lag.. (Photoshop 2019 x86) peak ram usage 6gb).

this is my first macbook and i just try with base model.
*
Thx for sharing, what else were running along with the photoshop 2019x86 when it heats up?

Chrome with 1x++ tab, visual studio code, xcode, youtube, whatsapp, web whatsapp, (IOS FB messenger), discord, xampp, skype, filezilla and excel at the same time.  bruce.gif

the warm heats up mostly because xcode + iphone emulator + photoshop..

i cant utilize all the cpu except ram
*
Ahhh that’s quite a lot running at the same time, not surprise that it heats up.
Is the lag bad though or it’s just minor?

mirror lag, but you can notice the zoom is slow.

but i got another issue when i zoom and teamviewer at the same time, and i move mouse in teamviewer i can hear the zoom sound is broken.

i suspect because some of the software are not fully support on m1 yet..
*
Yeap should be m1 compatibility issue...

hello, need advise on this.
so i ordered a mbp with wrong specs on 1st jan, cancelled it next day on 2nd jan...today spoke to the bank, they say the amount is still floating (which means apple have not officially cancel it on their side), but bank say after 7 days any floating will be cancelled automatically so they ask me to check again on the 9th or 10th. apple account stated cancelled and have not been billed (still processing when I cancel the order).

i wanna re-order different specs now, and im wondering if its safe to do so or just wait for bank to clear everything before making new purchases? any advise? tyvm

No worries bro, cant wait for the upcoming macbook though, heard they gonna launch 14 inch macbook this year  hmm.gif

Good to see Apple are getting serious again in selling computers, the M1 chip is truly revolutionary.

Ive been using this laptop since yesterday, never had to charge it since im just using 10% of charge lol

There’s a chance the 14”/16” will come this March...with mini-led, possibly m1x and also redesigned ....all rumors by potential leakers though..smile.gif
