How has the experience been mate? Is it as good as they say it is? Benchmarks aside, the entire user experience, smoothness, etc.

I'm just really looking for a smoother experience with an app called "Thinkorswim" and if anyone's got any experience with TOS on M1, give a shout hey.

So I just called Publika and he said, "Very very.....very soon. Don't buy on Carousell Sir, you will regret"

What does a person like me do? I go check on Carousell.

RM6,000 instead of RM5,600. So a RM400 premium to get it today.

Next month is 2021 laugh.gif thinking if I should hold back...

Heard that the m1 pro basic is as powerful as the 16” basic? Is that true?

I used the i9 16”, 16gb and currently running on the 8gb MBP. It’s as good as the rumours and reviewers say. It does things faster than my 16” but it doesn’t spin the fans.

I have the mba basic too, and have compared the two.

I’m sticking with the MBA cuz the difference in performance for WHAT I DO, which is reading business news, typing, and using “thinkorswim”, the difference is non-existent

I edited and rendered a 5 minute video (4K) with very basic colour correction, a background song, some text, and the MBA was 30 seconds slower to render. A total of 4 minutes vs 3.30. Scrubbing 🧽 was super similar, no lag nothing. So the user experience is similar.

I do have a 5% voucher to order any MBP if anyone’s interested. You just need to give me a RM100 deposit, I’ll order and pay first, and you can give me the remaining when the laptop arrives. However, it will arrive only late December to early January, cuz of the supply limitation

thanks bro for all the review.

so does it mean the new M1 air/pro outperforms the 16" in every ways (including battery)? if its so means the 16" became redundant for now compare to the new M1 chip units? until they put the new chip in the 16"?

So my MBP is now in its box, waiting to be brought back to Melaka to be used as my family's media player. I'm not even going to sell it off, because it's unfair to buy an Intel Mac when the M1's are available. The thing runs hotter, and is for some reason, feels less smooth compared to my baseline MBA.

Like it's hard to explain but the entire experience off the fanless MBA is, just snappier than the MBP 16", especially once you get it going with a few tasks. When I say few, I mean, typically I run;

1. Thinkorswim
2. Stock news sites
3. YouTube on one monitor to keep an eye on the market movement
4. An Excel sheet to record my trades

That's literally all I do 90% of the time, and the MBP will run at 70-80C and the fans become quite audible. I just don't understand why but the M1 MBA does not do this.
Also at 70-80C, you cannot use the MBP on your lap. I do this thing where I hinge the tip of the MBP on my thigh while majority of the laptop is dangling off. It's quite a circus worthy of Russian circus standards if you ask me.

At this point, unless you NEED the Intel's, I think there's really no good reason to even bother with Intel Macs in my unwarranted opinion.
