spore shop got online ordering or not? if air travel to spore will cost about RM600. see calcs below:

take Airasia to spore, roundtrip ticket is about RM220. roundtrip to LCCT terminal from home in KL RM150. roundtrip from changi airport to sim lim square RM250. so total is RM620.

onkyo in spore sgd700 = RM1680 plus RM620 = rm2300 less gst refund = RM118, so net = RM2182

desa selling RM2600.

hmmm.....is it worth it? shakehead.gif

If you purposely go down to buy maybe not worth it. For me, I bought it during one of my business trip. Instead of flying down, I drove down. By the way, round trip from Changi to Sim Lim square no need RM250. S$50 should be enough.

Not sure. I think it's 10% import duty and 5% sales tax.

I am targetting for TX-SR805 prices drop, current prices approx RM3.8k in Penang but i found prices @ Prai are more cheap.Currently i was came to understand that TX-SR806 have several issues like heat and noise wave on display.
The 806 lacks the following what the 805 had:

Dual PUSH-PULL Design
Independent Block Construction (Amp/Preprocessor)
Optimum Gain Volume
Linear Optimum Gain Volume
Non-Scaling Configuration
7 Band Multi-Band Speaker EQ
Back Lit Remote

Anyone pls comment abt it.
Thxs.

i think music wise yamaha is better but for movie i think denon is performing better.
but personally i prefer yamaha than denon

Music = YAMAHA, but Movie I think it depends which type of movie you're interested in. If you're talking bout Powerful of the AMP, I think ONKYO seconds to nothing. U can buy some magazine and view some review online. Most of the owners agreed with that.

ONKYO's power is like never finished.....try it out and see....Denon more towards clarity I believe.

Hmmm...... i also aiming for TX-SR805 model. But now sure how's the performance yet coz haven't go for audition.

I'm owning one. Think too powerful for a masterbedroom of 300 sqft. The power is great! Anyway, make sure your HT Room is air-conditioned. Coz' the Receiver is damn hot....u can even barbeque something on top of it while watching movie.

If affordable, go for TX-SR 806 now....better coz' got more HDMI in&out.

Onkyo users,

I posted this 2 days back, but could not find it. Maybe its lost.

My question:

I have a Upscale DVD player, and if i plug the dvd into onkyo 606, which is only 1080I, would the picture quality be worse of then direct DVD-TV?

Thanks.

you should try. theoretically progressive is better than interlaced, so if you upscale dvd to 1080p, and then downconvert to 1080i, surely the picture is slightly worse than direct to tv (1080p).

anyway the difference should be insignificant because the source dvd is only either 480 or 576p. i think you should connect the dvd player direct to the tv at 1080p instead of passing through to the receiver. but if the receiver have better upconverter then it is a different story already lah smile.gif

Where do u buy this RS SPL meter & how much?
I think u can use the Onkyo spk set up level ( after u have done the audyssel ). Use the left spk sound level as the ref level then adjust all the rest of the spk. Make sure that u left the spl meter at the same position ( at ur ear level in ur normal sitting position ) when doing the adjusting. Adjust the db level of the spk until all spk output at the same level ( base on the spk meter reading ). smile.gif

Depends on what display you have and what upscale DVD player you are talking about. Typically the lower cost DVD players have mediocre upscaling chips in them. Most modern displays (mid to high end) have good scalars in them. The Onkyo 606 I believe uses the Faroudja chip for scaling/deinterlacing. It is not too bad. The most important thing is to see which looks better to your eyes. It might just be better to send the signal clean to the display (480i/576i) if your player can do that and see the difference between that and setting 1080i to the display (don't forget to try 720p as well since it is possible that the deinterlacing chip in the display might be inferior to the deinterlacing of the Faroudja). You might find that a 720p from the Onkyo might be quite good.

there are several good calibrations tips in this thread, just search for it.

For me, adjust the sub volume level until audyssey calibrates the sub trim to be about -5dB. Then run audyssey correctly using the recommended 8 postions for the mic.

After that, adjust the sound levels for each speaker using the onkyo test tones using your SPL meter to your preferred level e.g. +75dB - LCR, +72db - surrounds, +66db - sub.

Come think of it, it would be the same if i BD to 606 to Full HDTV? The PQ would be slightly worse than BD-TV rite?
