I bought mine last week for RM3.5K with 1-yr warranty from Hwee Seng (the official disty for msia). Haven't hooked it up yet so can't give you any impressions of how it performs. Factory-direct as i understand it, comes without a warranty and ppl in this forum were able to get it for as little as RM2K+. Not sure if u can still get those, tho'.
*
so RM3.5K is the retail selling price in msia? as we can get it senq or harvey norman rite?
actually i tested it out the 805 out, so i know the performance, but just the price i get here is RM3.9k..
and i dun hav the time to survey it out other pricing:)
thx for ur info.

Ya, was quoted mine by the Onkyo sales rep at Harvey Norman Pavilion. Said HN no more stock but he can sell me direct from Hwee Seng stock. Tole me only a few units left (until they bring in next batch from S'pore - dunno whether BS so as to make the sale or not). Anyway, they delivered it last Saturday and it came with the Hwee Seng warranty card. Which place quoted u RM3.9K?
*
i working in Kl..RM3.9k is quoted at my hometown in ipoh by a hifi shop..not those Harvey norman or Senq..
he say its is an offer b4 that the selling price is aorund RM4.8k..
i tot normally those HV or Senq will quote a much more higher price than those individual AV shop..
but it turns out to be a different way... doh.gif
any Onkyo 805 owner can clarify the price u guys get at which AV shop??
ur help is kindly been appreciated , as i qute busy recently to go to do survey:P

thx for all the feedback:)
so with the latest firmware, is the issue solved or the delay was not so noticeable?

would like to know more on the 805, is there any downside for this avr?

side issue, can the latest denon2309 consider same par with onkyo805?
the pricing is quite near, still deciding which avr to get..

according the the overseas forums most of them suffer from this problem watching hd pay tv.. i guess we r safe from the problem:)...  i actually notice some lip sync problem when i was watching astro singing program when the camera closed in on the lips of the singer then suddenly i realised there was a lip sync problem just that i wasnt paying much attention to it... so sometimes if u purposely look for it u might find the lipsync problem..  according to some forums to test lip sync problem, simply on the tv speakers n your other speakers through your avr.. if your speakers through avr are echoing the tv speakers that means got lip sync problem...   i tested many many times n everytime also got echo:).. but most of the shows i cant tell at all unless i look for the problem.. .. it is really too minor to bother me at all except that time when the camera close in on the lips.. now how often would the camera close in on the lips... only during singing programs n adult movies (no adult movies in astro anyway) smile.gif   i dont have problems during dvd playback.. but i havent tried looking for the problem too during dvd playback ... so if it exists it must be very very minor until i dont notice it

any lip sync delay adjustable function for the 805?
marantz,denon do hav this function

When u guyz listen to audio (CDs) which DSP or surround do u prefer? PLx II / THX / analog / pure audio?

Assuming u do not have a separate set-up for music only.

I normally use PL II but found many Onkyo AVR owners recommend using pure audio. The problem is I have set my main speakers as small (cut off at 60 hz) and pure audio disable the sub. Hence although much warmer sound with clearer highs, it lacks low-end bass.
*
hmmm...thinking of this prob too..
but many pros those hifi kakis..they just listen to 2 chnl stereo onli..
no subs for their system..
so the sound is pure n clean, and without any other addictive..
me too prefer bass for music..so i not yet reach the highest lvl of hifi kakis tongue.gif

1) DTS, since it uses less compression.
2) THX Cinema is one of the different Listening Modes you can choose on the 805 receiver. Just press the SURR and THX buttons on your 805's remote when watching a movie to cycle between the different available listening modes (which will change depending on whether you are watching a DVD, listening to a CD, etc).
3) You should check the center speaker level by watching different movies. I noticed some of my movies hv a relatively lower volume on the center channel compared to others. Audyssey normally does a good job setting speaker levels and distances for everything except the subwoofer. In my case, the level set by Audyssey worked fine and even the softer dialogue passages in certain movies were still clear/loud enough to understand. If you need to adjust this, you can find it under Speaker Settings - Speaker Level (or something like that - i don't hv my manual with me right now so may not hv got the names exactly right).
*
thx augustine:)
1) i found when using dolby digital is a bit louder than using DTS..but cant hear any difference between them.. doh.gif
2) wat about the EQ calibration menu? anything to play around there?
3) currently using 40" LCD HD ready, can i know about the upscaling thing on the 805? wat it means by that is that after upscaling the 2 black stripes on top n below of the dvd movie will dissapear and become full screen?
sorry..newbie here..and first timer own an AVR... cry.gif

swine,DTS should be much better then DD, quite suprise u didnt hear any diff. hmm.gif The EQ i set it to DynamicEQ after the audyssey calibration,EQ XT is my other option.I dun think upscalling will make the black bar disappear,it all depends from ur sources. If not mistaken, most LCD these days can "zoom" the pic to full screen without black bar but that's not the original resolution.
*
the thing i notice is the sound is lower volume in DTS..may i shud tested it out wit other DVDs.. tongue.gif

1. IMHO DTS offers better soundstage and surround effect. Using DD vs. DTS can definitly hear difference mayb not calibrated properly or 'pasar malam' DVD  whistling.gif
2. If u already use  audyssey EQ, u don't need to do EQ adjustment or else it overwrite audyssey. I feel audyssey does a better job then manual adjustment but need to readjust the crossover of the speakers as its tend to rate my speakers as 'full band'
3. 805 upscales up to 720p i.e. ur DVDs or Astro if connected via HDMI to ur LCD will look better (420i upscaled to 720p); the blackstripes will sometimes still be there depending on ur DVD screen format (u oso cannot control the screen setup on ur LCD)

1) wat u eman by calibrating properly? recalibrate Audyssey again? but i m using pasar malam DVDs.. tongue.gif
2) the upscale to 720p means better in picture quality? currently i m using analogue cable for dvds..will it be a big diff if i using a HDMI cable? any difference to the sound quality as well? blink.gif

I am currently watching Astro upscaled to 720p by my Onkyo and do notice a difference in PQ.
Depending on which analogue connection you are currently using, PQ may or may not be better. If you are using component video then with DVD being only an SD source, the PQ should be about on par with HDMI. If your DVD player has HDMI out and TV has HDMI in, you should still consider using HDMI if only because it's current technology. Not so sure about sound quality, though. If you're already outputting audio from your DVD player using a digital audio connection (e.g., optical or coaxial), then i would say there is little difference compared to HDMI. I'm guessing it only really makes a difference with HD content (e.g., Bluray) with HD audio sources such as Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA.
*
1) my dvd dun support HDMI, now using coaxial cable for audio connection, adviceable to upgrade to HDMI players? will the diff be huge?
2) if suppose i get a HDMI player with upscaling capabilites, any diff comapring with the 805 doing the upscaling job? the end product is a much more higher picture quality?

re-calibrate or 1st time audyssey calibration doesnt need and DVDs  smile.gif

erm..so adviceable to use DTS for movie and concerts most of the time? after selecting DTS do i need switch to THX cinema from the remote control? hmm.gif

Upgrading to HDMI would not make a huge difference for SD sources such as DVDs. If you are currently connecting via component video and coaxial digital audio you should be good. Having said that, with the current crop of DVD players costing less than (or maybe just a little over) RM200 (even for the branded ones) and with most of them equipped with HDMI out as well as 1080p upscaling, it may be worth considering an upgrade, esp. if your TV supports 1080p (or 1080i). In this case, you should let either the DVD player or your TV's built-in upscaling engine take care of the upscaling.

branded HDMI player cost around RM400, with my existing still working fine, throw away kinda waste..just thinking save the $$ wait for blu ray to drop or get the hdmi player hmm.gif

if i get the HDMI player, how many hdmi cable to i need? from HDMI to AVR, den from AVR to LCD? 2 HDMI cable?

LG HDMI DVDP can get RM260 + free HDMI cable sumor. For 805 jus connect the hdmi directly to ur LCD (DVDP will upscale to 1080p instead of onkyo's 720p) w. audio into AVR so no need 2 hdmi cables.

Actually, component oso good enuf for DVDs but RM260.00 for 50% more resolution and the satisfaction of pushin ur LCD to its potential & get hdmi cable..... up to ur budget-la
*
erm..means connect HDMI from AVR to LCD, den the DVD just use component cable? so the upscaling will be done by the DVD player? hmm.gif

Not sure bout ur question but if u get a HDMI DVDP, then connect directly to ur LCD oso can. Only route audio to AVR so don't need 2 hdmi cable. HDMI DVD player upscale higher resolution then TX805 (1020p vs 720i) No need to connect AVR to LCD via HDMI if ur DVD connect directly to LCD since there will be no output unless ur using LCD's speaker.
If u do not have hdmi DVDP then connect via component to AVR and hdmi to LCD u get 720i only. U still need another toslink cable fr audio fr DVDP to AVR.
876 quoted by CMY RM7k, Desa RM6,700 probably coz I look like 'waterfish'  mad.gif
*
u got my question right...
but now my setup is connect my non HDMI DVDP to AVR using the yellow composite cable? issit call composite cable? hmm.gif
audio using coaxial cable..

so now the case is remain the same connection as b4, but just get a HDMI cable to conenct from AVR to LCD for the upscaling to 720i by 805 right? hmm.gif

tat day i saw HV selling 876 at RM7.5k and 806 at RM5.5k..u still not 100% waterfish tongue.gif

Ya its called composite cable, I was thinkin of component cables (3 cables) which can support digital video.
Its advisable to upgrade ur cable to a well shield HDMI since not much differnet in price with component cable and u 'futureproof' urself. No need to buy xpensive just good quality can connect ur AVR to LCD & let us know whether u can see the difference.
Nearly wanted 2 buy 876 fr Desa but the salesman refuse to give RM6.5k so bought a 905 for RM3.5k instead  icon_idea.gif . Now enjoyin 1080p  thumbup.gif I oso don't have a HDMI DVDP only using component. Saving $$ fr bulu-ray
*
ok..will try it...same as u waiting for bluray price drop a bit den get 1 laugh.gif
guess not much diff from 576p to 720i cry.gif
any nice HDMI cable recommend? MONSTER? Audioquest?

905 for RM3.5k? where u get it? shocking me..i shud get 905 instead of 805 for that price doh.gif

Hi all Onkyo owners. I am in the midst of deciding between Onkyo TX-SR805 and Denon avr2309. Both around the same price. However, denon has never features while onkyo has more power. I havent have a chance to test the onkyo but tested denon. It is obvious, it has good surround capability and it has the clarity and good sound separation. I believe many of you had tested denon before getting an Onkyo. Mind to share your experiences and opinions?

I will be giving Onkyo 805 a test very soon...
*
i'm in the situation as u last month, i tested both model out..and finally still get my hand on 805.. laugh.gif
in terms of specand material used,805 beat 2309 flatout..burr brown DAC, TI 32 bit DSP..etc etc
but denon has a bit of plus point tthat u mentioned..
on movies terms it seems that denon somehow have a better sound dynamic overall..and the sound separation is amazing too(some how 2309 just entry level for denon, the higher series like 2809 or3808 will definitely edge out 805/875 alot..) tongue.gif
on musical terms, denon still cant beat marantz, sr7002 is the one to go..(this is the one i wish to have, but price 1k above them...argh.. cry.gif

actually if the 2809 if can price at the 805 range, i definitely go for denon.. whistling.gif

onkyo certainly go for power, and the bangs certainly is there for u.. laugh.gif
due to may be this factor it might give u an impression onkyo throw out everything out the speaker for u..

as u urself also experience it the denon have the superiority in the sound dynamics and srurround, it wont rojak up the sound to u,it will take it slow n steady, separate it nicely serve it to u.. tongue.gif
this is wat denon can outdo onkyo..and not to mention a better outlook amp..
but i choose 805 as mention better material used, burr brown DAC, TI 32 bit DSP...and the 2309 is just an entry level for denon, i would only consider for 2809, but the price put me out..so hace to take care my pocket tats y my final decision is on 805

i got quoted if not mistaken black 2309 for 2.9k, silver 2309 3.1k
