How do we measure keywide and size of the keyboard ? As for the keys , a fullsize 104 keys is enough for daily use.
Current key board size not including the border from 'CTRL' key to last numberpad 'Enter' is 43cm width and 'CTRL' to 'Esc' key is 12cm.
Key cap height is 1cm.Key spacing between other key is 0.5cm.
Which MX brown tactile having this kind of wide ? i don't want to readjust and get use again the typing key wide with a new keyboard
Keyboard height including stand not over 4.5cm at Esc key and bottom the Ctrl key 1.5cm.
Also how do we measure the actuation force with tactile included ? Saw some ask to stack some coins , but which coins need to stack every key is different size and new rm0.10 cents size or older one ? since it's the only size around a single key size. How do you test it ?
When comes to budget , first is to find the same key layout slowly choose which is suitable budget.I know some have custom made keyboard but i just need for office typing use.
i'm not good at measuring keyboards in details. i mean, it's still a keyboard. basically the main things that we should care for is the comforts when we type on them (e.g., sound. feel, typing angles), with the right keys at the right places (e.g., layout).
not everything needs precision, unless you want to design your own builds from scratch, with everything matches your own preferences. if you intended to do that, then there are a lot of variables that you need to check out:
1. key caps, there are many profiles, e.g. cherry, oem, sa, dsa, xda, mda, osa, etc. they all have their own measurements.
2. cases, they have different thickness, and typing angles.
3. etc.
normally the unit for key caps is u (e.g. 1u, 2u, 2.75u); 1u is about 19mm. it's a standard based on caps from cherry. different profiles usually mean they have different thickness, and heights.
the better way to measure actuation force is to use scientific measurement tools. the coin stacking way is a way for estimation, with the assumption that each coin weights the same.
we chose customs because there are better layouts, parts, etc. that suit our preferences. in terms of layout alone, i rather have a board with all the keys being typed on, than those with keys that i never touch once. as for your requirements, you can just get a good mkb and be done with it. you can still modify it like what niakulah did to his, to have much better typing experience.
