I notice the commission for the options trading is different each time......eg the 1st time I'm doing a Buy + Sell, the commission is 34c, but I see that I have another commission at 1.04. Any reason for the difference? Same counter/expiry/strike.

I look at IBKR page which has the following
Premium < USD 0.05  USD 0.25/contract
Premium ≥ USD 0.05 and <0.10  USD 0.50/contract
Premium ≥ USD 0.10  USD 0.65/contract

Based off exchange. Some exchange more expensive but faster execution. Some exchange cheaper but slowe execution.

It doesn't matter if same or not. It's the exchange that ibkr route the order through.

Oo... you mean even with the same account, I put order for options A in US stock exchange, then another options A, it might route through different exchange?

Yes. As long as you choose smart routing, ibkr will decide the best exchange for you. If you want the cheapest exchange you need to research see which is the cheapest exchange.

Also depends on whether you take away liquidity or add liquidity. Sometimes I get paid instead of paying because I add liquidity.

If you want to save on commissions, try to place at least 2 contracts per order rather than separate orders. You can also use "All or None" to save on commissions. However, you may take longer to execute.

I see the SGOV div is 4.58. But we also have witholding tax right?
*
SGOV is one of the Qualified Interest Income. Although IBKR takes 30% away from your dividend for withholding tax, you will be refunded this 30% around early next year once IRS officially declares the exemption.

For those of you interested in the basis trade done by hedge funds on US Treasuries, here's an interesting paper detailing the whole mechanics.

Hi friends, just to share some info from my experiment:

I've set up recurring investment for VWRA, a LSE listed ETF denominated in USD.

user posted image

Contrary to the information provided by IBKR:

1. If you don't have enough USD, it will convert from your other currency balances. This conversion is free.
2. It trades at the end of the trading day.
3. It charges minimal commission where possible. (0.35 USD instead of the usual 1.70+ USD) The ongoing theory is that it's an internal trade within IBKR where possible and it saves cost.

The cheapest route to invest at any amount now for me is:

1. Remit SGD to SG Bank. (MoneyMatch -> CIMB SG, <2 hour during working hours)
2. Deposit from SG Bank to IBKR SG (CIMB SG -> IBKR, <2 hour before funds are made tradable)
3. Set up recurring investment, it's possible to set to buy for exactly 1 time to mimic normal buying.
4. SGD automatically converted to USD without 2USD commission on trade with IBKR's great spot rate.
5. Trade is done at cheapest possible broker commissions.

Not only this makes weekly DCA viable, it also basically eliminates my minimum investment amount per trade. (Used to be RM3000+ for better rates on SunwayMoney and keeping TX cost at around 0.5%)
Obviously, if your stock has shit spread, do not do this. But this is a great boon for investors like me.

Question for bold: did you happen to have other currencies at hand? I wonder which ones they will take to auto convert...

Also, I've tried for VWRA and it complained that minimum trade amount is 10 (I assume that's number of shares). Strange because I see you have fractional share.... I wonder what I missed?

possible bug on IBKR. even so, if u manually convert your currency, U$0.35 commission fees is still cheaper than 0.05% for LSE instruments

hello everyone, newbie here.

I have an IBKR account. I usually deposit USD using Wise after i convert them from myr.

My question is, let's say i wan to trade sg stocks, can i deposit sgd into IBKR and trade using sgd?

Or do I need to deposit USD as usual, and upon trading sg stocks, IB will auto convert USD to sgd?

thankssss

The fund deposit page has a list of currencies you can deposit, with the corresponding method to deposit said currency.

Trading can only be done if you have the appropriate currency to purchase that particular stock, e.g. have SGD in account to buy SGX stocks.

Yes you can deposit SGD directly - you'll need to change your account currency to SGD first, then deposit notification will be in SGD with the correct transfer instruction into IBKR's Singaporean account.

Try not to use Sunway Money these days due to the RM8 fee (used to be RM1). Can use Moneymatch instead.

*Transfer MYR to your Spore bank account via Moneymatch/Sunway Money, then deposit SGD to IBKR.

As for "Cash on hand" and "buying power" I think you can check that from the portfolio statistics via the online portal...

----------------------------

*To save on further FX charges, you can purchase stocks using RSP method once the money is in your IBKR cash account, but set to one time purchase only. In the case of US shares, your SGD will be exchanged to say USD at market rate without the usual 2 USD charges if you buy via the RSP method.
