Already done by someone and number 1 wins. That is why I continue using number 1.

How much money can you save though if using method 1?

Say I'm transferring RM100k from my Malaysian bank to IBKR, how much can I save using method 1 compared to method 2?

If the saving is not much, I think I'll stick to method 2 which I'm using now as it's more straightforward.

Oh it will be much. Later I count. Why? It is not a one off transfer. You will be transfering until the the day you decide to stop investing altogether. Something I learnt, fees matter. Keep your cost as low as possible.

RM30k sunway money -> SGD is 0.19%

Wise is 0.59%

if your average transfer amt is only RM1,000-2,000, then marginal difference between Wise as Sunway Money has RM8 transfer fee. so if RM30,000, that RM8 fee is nothing.

since u said RM100k, can try ask Sunway to increase daily limit from RM30k to RM50k

Hi all,

I received email notification that my USD balance is about to close.

user posted image

I wish to retain the USD balance so I will need to either transfer USD from IBKR to Wise USD balance or deposit MYR/SGD into Wise and convert via Wise internally to fund my USD balance.

Do you guys have any suggestions which method costs less money?

If I move money from IBKR to Wise, I will convert to MYR and move to my MY digital bank accounts. Conversion done by Wise will incur charges... Another alternative is to move money from IBKR to Wise, then move back again to IBKR... but not sure if there are charges for this.

If move money from MYR/SGD to Wise then convert to USD, Wise will charge money in the process... still incur costs.

Thanks for the suggestion ya everyone.

Haven't been here for a looooong time biggrin.gif

Just top up nominal balance (few USD)'s. IMO, doesn't hurt much (wallet wise) considering the convenience. icon_rolleyes.gif

usually for bank accounts, any deposit of that currency funds will reactivate the account.

so why not just covert 43rm to 10 usd within wise itself and see if that trick works? should be the cheapest option... if not, pretend you donated 43rm to charity at worse.

if the trick works, then just leave the 10 usd there.... in 3 years time (more like 2.75 years later), you reconvert it back to myr to reactivate again the usd account...
(or is it within 1 year, you need to have an activity to keep the account active... something like that. )

haha... and who knows, if usdmyr is back to 4.7, you just made like 3.7% pa return. whistling.gif

From IBKR side they don't charge fees, but from Wise side they'll charge some nominal sending fees, usually I transfer minimum 200 USD up to 1000-2000 USD, from my trx history seems to be 1.13 USD (Wise's Fees)

Again IMO, paying a few bucks to keep an account active isn't much considering the convenience/options we get to keep. I still keep some of my foreign accounts (rarely used) active just for the conveniences in the future (like my HK bank account).

Or do like above suggested tongue.gif just keep the USD in Wise, and "send" bit by bit when time needs.

Ok boleh boleh

Sounds like a plan. Just pay 10 USD to rent a USD bank account for 6 years (3 + 3). Pretty decent idea. tongue.gif

Happy Sunday to both of you. biggrin.gif

to keep using your USD (bank) account details ... use them to receive money
based on my interpretation, you need to withdraw USD from IBKR and deposit into Wise. this will utilize the bank details. just converting from RM to USD won't use those details

can withdraw USD1.

This is correct.

Link your Wise account to IBKR, then initiate a “Withdraw to Wise Balance” transaction in USD (a nominal amount like USD1 or more). Wise does not charge USD deposit fee in this case because it’s an ACH transfer (Wire or SWIFT deposit transaction will incur a fixed fee of USD6.11)
