What's the difference between the effects of acrylics& lacquers? Which one better?

Also it is best to spray the whole tree 1st. But you should clip off the important branches 1st and leave 1 intact so you only have to touch up 1 spot after you totally clip off the parts. Or else you end up with many parts lying on the floor and it's more troublesome to paint the 1 by 1, sometimes they fly away if you don't secure it properly.

like i repeat so many times before...
it is NOT recommended to spray you kit while they still on the runner...

its easy job yes...but not only you waste your time do two times job but also you waste paint/spray cans...and hobby paints are not cheap here locally

spray on the runner means you leaving those cutting part expose and unpaint and means you need to repaint them again after you cut them off...sometimes you will risk got uneven color on that parts...

the best thing to do is to cut all them out first or assemble them first then only paint or spray them...

and you didnt just lay them on the floor when you wanna spray it...of course it all will fly away...as spray cans pressure are very strong

clip them all up then only spray them...hold them all up

if you want a good finish, a good painting, a good spraying, a good kit that you can proud of after you finish with it...then put some effort on it...

troublesome or mafan or hard or this and that is just an excuse...and might as well just straight build them instead of even think to paint them and end up a lousy finish job

remember paint, tools, and the kits itself are not cheap here in bolehland...so wanna paint...put some effort on it

alright, more painting questions

guys to do panel lining on my gundam, what paints should i use? i used the gundam markers but even the thinest marker is not thin enough sometimes.

i've bought some mr.color 157 (super black) (gloss) but i'm not really getting it. i mix it with thinner to make it watery then i use my brush and dab it onto my gundam to let the paint just flow into the panels... but the problem is wiping off the excess, it just ends up smudging. my brush also doesn't seem suited for this job... although i can say its the smallest, thinnest one i can find. (not from hobby shop)

from what i've read, the color i'm using is a laquer, and i've heard about acrylics... are they better? also i tried mixing water with the mr.color ... well it was a bad idea, luckily i just used a small amount of paint.

so, what i hope u guys can help me with, is tell me the exact stuff that i need to do this panel lining (i don't wanna use gundam markers):

brush - buy where - size - type?
paint - brand - color - type (laquer/acrilic)
thinner (currently using a small bottle mr thinner 50)

and panelling tips please

edit:

i've been checking out, and it seems people use top coat prior to panel lining, is this really necessary?? say that it is, what type of top coat should i get if i wanna use a) Lacquer paint B) Enamel paint

in times square got which shop sell enamel paint?

use tis kind of clips when u're spraying ur parts, it'll be unwise to spray them laying on the floor/layer of something like what vince said.

user posted image

Bro are u sure ur gundam marker isnt thin enuf for lining ???? rclxub.gif Are u using the correct one in the first place... the one specially for lining is Gunze-Sangyo's finepoint blue-body marker pen... here. : http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/gunmargunbla.html
This one... if u line wrongly u can use an eraser to erase it.... very handy stuff. nod.gif

U cant use those other marker that come in set ( set of 6 ) ... they aint thin enough. And u cant erase these with eraser cuz most of it is oil based pen... very irritating need to use gundam marker remover.... Best to use the set one for colouring small parts cukup.

When u do panel lining, just make sure u dun " over line " ... some panel lines ive seen are too thick... damn ugly lo. Use an eraser to clean it up. Theres nothing much to it, really. I dun recommend painting ur panel lines with a brush... its tough work...
Top coats doesnt matter on which paint u use... just whether to use FLAT- or GLOSS-type topcoat... the latter will make ur model shine. The flat one will make it " no-shine ". So its up to you la... military vehicles use flat lo... i mean.. how often do you see a shiny Abrams tank... doh.gif

Top coat i recommend getting Mr. Topcoat spray cans. http://www.backyardarmor.com/Gunze_Sangyo.htm
This site has a small list of gunze sangyo's finishing products. nod.gif

Some of ur questions might have been answered here... u shuld use the search engine more often. tongue.gif tongue.gif

for panel line inking u have to use enamel paint to do it ...... lacquer and acrylic paint is not suitable for panel line inking cause most ppl will be using those as base paint and dun forget about the L.A.E. theory ( lacquer -> acrylic -> enamel )

enamel that i know can be get from malaysia is either tamiya brand or humbrol brand.... u may find tamiya enamel at any tamiya store but be warn it's bit expensive ..... for humbrol enamel u can get it at hobby hq or miniature hobby price r alright ....

L.A.E. if not mistaken is
lacquer can cairkan acrylic, acrylic can cairkan enamel,
therefore, if u paint with lacquer or acrylic paint
and use enamel paint to do lining, it wont cairkan the lacquer or acrylic paint

Hobby Ho located at city square, jalan tun razak
near klcc

yup zoidx_chung point it out ..... lacquer base can melt acrylic and enamel base ..... so if u u acrylic as the base then use lacquer to do lining when u wanna clean the line u will rub away the base as well ..... so enamel is the best for panel line inking since it cant melt lacquer and acrylic.

for tamiya enamel the price i ask is around rm 15 per bottle not sure other place la ....... humbrol enamel not sure the price forget liao but wont be more then rm 10 per bottle .....

hi... for panel lining i use a technical drawing pen... you can get any of these from any art shops... the tip sizes ranges from 0.1 to 1.0...
the one that i'm using it 0.2...

ink for these pens come in either cartridges or bottled ink... mostly india ink which is waterproof... but i find that i can still remove then with a cotton bud or eraser (rubber)... probably because it's on plastic... i have not tried it with models which i have painted or applied primer/surfacer yet...

also... i use different types of paint with my type of applications... lacquer paints uses thinner as solvents while acrylic paints use water etc etc... with this in mind, it would make your painting easier....

e.g. you paint the whole part with (lacquer paint) white... and then you start to touch up with (acrylic paint) blue... if you make a mistake, all you have to do is to immediately wash it off with water and still retain the base white...

i'm not too good with painting yet... but that's my knowledge on why people use them... smile.gif

having said that... i'm still having a hard time applying a coat of acrylic paint evenly on my kits... i'm guessing that it would be easier if i had a layer of primer... anyone care to enlighten me? tongue.gif
