If you ever buy that, be prepared to fork out sh1t loads of premium for their lenses. It's not bad, it's just that Sony's DSLR is like BOSE sound system, it's not worth for what you pay for. I'd rather look at the K10D

Not really, you may find old Minolta lens to use on the A100. If you have done some research, you will know that some of the Minolta lens is really worth, the quality is very good compare to other brands.
If your budget only can afford you to get A100/400D/D40X, A100 is not a bad choice at all. |

lets put it this way, eventhough it is using Minolta as a base, sony is not one of those established camera makers...i won't fork out that kind of money for a Sony SLR....u look at their marketing strategy is mainly aimed at the yuppie crowd

Honestly, being able to use OLD Minolta lenses on your brand new Alpha is a kill-off ... why can't Sony come up with more lenses for their clients to move along with the hobby? Sony making SLR is similar to Philips making high end equipment, they are better off doing what they do best (sony - makes sensors, philips - makes IC).
Even though Sony's history in making photography equipment is short, if they do what Microsoft did in marketing Xbox, they could probably stand a chance in the slr market. But NO! Sony wants to make quick bucks, they pimp sensor shift IS, which is good as the company could then cut cost in the lenses and passes the savings to consumer, which would then give them a real competitive advantage...but hell NO, some of the lenses have a huge premium on it i.e. 70-200 f2.8 (500-600USD premium over Nikon/Canon/Pentax's offer). So yeah, if you do buy a the A100, you'd probably be stuck with those "crap" lenses, or third party offers, and be Sony's cash cow Well Hoya is a big @ss company, it's a good thing that Pentax is acquired by Hoya. But honestly, I'd rather Nikon take over fuji. I've got a feeling that Fuji will sooner or later end up like Kodak/Sigma should they not get assimilated by a bigger company. No! Canon, stay away! |

I am not bias to any brand, but when we question something, we should provide some evidence and comparison. There are so many 3rd part like Sigma or Tamron with a decent quality, most of us also buy 3rd party lens, so are these considered "crap" as well? Then i am also interested how "high end" lens you owned? Who says Sony body must attached with Sony lens? Next, the sony retail price always scaring people, but actually you could get much cheaper than the retail printed, like the flash F56, sony selling price is RM1650, but you can get it about RM1200 or slightly lower, with this price for a wireless HSS GN56 flash, i will say the price is nice. I come to know this Sony has build in image stabilizer when I was reading Popular Photography, and I think this is one of the best feature than Canon or Nikon shall implement in their cameras. Sony currently has 21 lens in their line. No doubt it's less than Canon or Nikon, but come to think of it, all those lens are having IS indirectly, now how many Canon or Nikon lens has IS? Come to the price, RM2k plus for a body... I don't understand why someone would call it expensive. |

Walk into any shop in Sg. Wang and you will get much better prices than at an official Sony shop. Same original Malaysian stock, same warranty anyway.
I bought an A100 for the anti-shake. Also I can use it with the 50mm F1.4 for really dark conditions. They have a 500mm F8 reflex lens that AUTOFOCUSES. With Super Steady Shot, you can shoot at 1/50s HANDHELD at F8! There is no other reflex lens that has VR/IS... which means you'd want 1/750s at F8. Where would you get that kind of lighting? (A very long studio room?) They have Carl Zeiss lenses that AUTOFOCUS. They have a 135mm F2.8 T4.5 Smooth Transition Focus lens that has very smooth, creamy bokeh (the out-of-focus areas). Minolta lenses (and their Sony rebadges) were designed to have nice bokeh, which is why they were big with the Japanese. They also have the excellent Minolta 70-210mm F4 beercan lens, a cheap, solid and lightweight tele lens that is brighter than all the 70-300mm F4-5.6 lenses that are in the market now. I dare say I will stick to this and skip the heavy 70-200mm F2.8. It's not about the price; if I had a Canon I'd get the 70-200mm F4 IS instead of the F2.8 IS for practical reasons. Sony has good service, they fixed my Minolta beercan for FREE even though it was 20 years old. How's that for after-warranty servicing? They always have 2-4 days turnaround. I have not paid a single cent to a Sony Service Center. You won't have cases of high-pitched VR lenses (annoying Nikkor 18-200mm F3.5-5.6!) or deteriorating SWM or dropping your expensive VR/IS lens, losing alignment and thus killing VR/IS on your lens. "Oh but if you drop your Sony/KM and your AS/SSS dies then all your lenses have no AS/SSS." Find me someone who has killed Anti-shake on their Konica Minolta/Sony then. You can also find more rare old lenses in the A-mount and Pentax K-mount. Why? Not much demand. I just picked up a Vivitar Series 1 28-105mm F2.8-3.8 in Bandung. If it was a Canon or Nikon it would not sit there. Sony unfortunately only retained the higher-spec lenses from the Konica Minolta days. Carl Zeiss IS a great, great brand to pay for. The sharpness and OOF rendition is amazing. Having tried the 135mm F1.8 I am convinced, and am saving up for one. Waiting is a standard procedure. How long did people wait for Nikon after the products were announced? Do you buy an SLR, then 2 months later, have ENOUGH money to buy the next big lens? Are you just sitting around itching to buy the next lens? Pentax is a good system, too. They've been bought by Hoya. So if mergers are a sign, and one day, Hoya Pentax is bought by Microsoft, will you NOT buy one? There is more to a system than just your systemic dislike towards a brand. |

There is more to a system than just your systemic dislike towards a brand. i agree there is a lot of misconception on the alpha a100. i am a konica minolta 5d user (which the a100 is heavily based on) and so far it's been great. the design layout is good with comfy grip and the performance is more than i need. alot of people scoffed at the anti shake/sss feature but to me it's really useful and definitely more cost effective than IS/VR lens (it may or may not be as effective as IS/VR but i get anti-shake for all my lenses). on the range of lenses - how many do you need? will you buy every single lens released for the system? no right? for any brand, as long as the type of lens & performance you required is there then i don't see that as an issue when the alpha a100 was released it was reviewed against the nikon d200 and it came out close. currently the price of the alpha a100 have dropped almost to the level of d40x and canon 400d, so it's definitely a good buy. sony maybe a newbie in dslr market but remember they are one of the biggest camera maker and most of their dslr design team are from KM which definitely been in the market for a long time. |

I bought my A100 last December and I am happy with it, no regrets whatsoever.
Assuming your budget is RM3-4k, I think A100 offers the best value among the other competitors at entry level. Get the body and forget about the kit lens, get the Tamron 17-50/2.8 and I am sure you will be happy with it for some while. There are a number of 3rd party lenses available for the A-mount. On prime lens, KM 50/1.7 is quite affordable or you can go for Sony 50/1.4. I am happy with my Beercan 70-210/4 as well, great quality for the money I paid for. A lot of people are in doubt of Sony's involvement in dSLR. KM used to be one of the big player in the market and I don't think a big corporation like Sony bought over KM without a long term investment strategy plan. I think it'll keep growing and become more competitive in near future. Good luck with your choice anyway. |

QUOTE(chongming76 @ Jun 19 2007, 03:52 AM) I bought my A100 last December and I am happy with it, no regrets whatsoever. How much is Tamron lens btw?Assuming your budget is RM3-4k, I think A100 offers the best value among the other competitors at entry level. |

If it is prices that you guys are concerned about, I suggest you check out Nikon see what they have to offer ... forget about Canon coz EOS 350D is selling off and selling out very soon and EOS 400D's price is all time high unless you got a few Riggit more to pay off the difference.
As for lenses, it's no longer the matter with Canon or Nikon or KM ... it's more like a SHOP thing rather than a BRAND thing, see who gets the best deal, not which brand is cheaper |

most of the camera also sucks at ISO 800 to 1600, anything come nearer ???
And how often you will get to this high level of ISO anyway. Most of the pros i know of, will try to et the ISO to as low as possible, eg, in sony Alpha...there is a Lo80 and Hi200 ISO setting. I'm a previous KM user, and i still have KM lenses and flash with me, the picture with the combination of KM/Tamron lenses, KM flash and sony body is much more better than using sony body + sony kit lenses. The KM 50mm F1.7 is around RM350 or less second-hand.
The Minolta 70-210mm F4.0 "beercan" is around RM750 or less second-hand. Look out for these. There are always people selling it, you just have to look out for it on photo forums. Tell your friends you have a Sony, and they will tell you if they see such offers. Even if they have another brand. I managed to get my 50mm F1.4 and beercan within one month of having the A100. Just keep an eye out, and look in those old camera shops. The 50mm F1.7 on the Sony A100 will have SuperSteadyShot; the Canon and Nikon do not have such a thing. Pentax has Anti-Shake on the body, too, and a lot of great second-hand old lenses too. As for noise on the A100, yes it is noisy, but still Photoshop-able, and you can set it to ISO 400 and leave the rest to SuperSteadyShot. Need to capture action? There are second-hand F1.4 lenses. The Lo80 and Hi200 rocks, by the way. A Canon 300D user will complain about his ISO1600 also. Like hello! Tak puas. The Nikon 55-200mm VR is darker, ending at F5.6. This will hamper your action shots where you need shutter speed, and VR won't help. The Nikkor 70-210mm F4 is a very rare thing indeed. The closest Canon has to the beercan is the Canon 70-200mm F4L IS USM, which goes for around RM4000 if I remember. Point-and-shoot and digital SLRs of the same brand CANNOT be compared. Some people with Nikon dSLRs prefer Canon P&S or Fujifilm P&S. The Olympus 4/3rds lenses are very nice; they have a 7-14mm F4 (14-28mm equivalent) rectilinear lens which goes wider than everybody else except the Sigma 12-24mm on a Canon full-frame. They have F2.0 ZOOM lenses but those are way expensive, and you can be sure they will not be cheap or sold second-hand because 4/3rds is very new. |

I made my choice after comparing A100, D70s and 400D. To be frank the noise level at ISO 800 and above is quiet high, but others than that it has more advantages compared to the other 2, which I still think it was a smart choice
Forget about 350D or D40 or unless you want to consider D80 or 30D. |

The advantages on A100:
(1) Anti-dust by coating and CCD shift. (2) CCD Shift image stabilizer. (3) 9 point AF. (4) 10MP (5) Direct Manual Focus(can turn to manual focus directly after auto focus) (6) Program Shift in P mode (7) ISO Zone matching(Lo 80 and Hi 200) - Low Key and High Key (8) Aperture Preview Button (9) 40 segments metering (10) AEL turn to spot metering in toggle mode (11) White balance with color temperature tuning(K) (12) Dynamic Range Optimizer (13) 2.5" LCD with 230K pixels. (14) Burst mode 3fps unlimited (15) Orientation sensor (16) Long Battery Life (1600mAH or 750 shots) (17) Eye start AF |

5) and 10) ROCK! Tap the AEL button to immediately take a spot metering for perfect exposure in confusing lighting.
3) is very handy also because the joystick is 8-directional with a center AF button to choose the center point at any point. You won't be going up-left-left. The diagonal AF points are placed along the rule of thirds while the center five are shaped in a cross (which can be used to align landscapes). I never quite understood the Canon 350D's AF points. I'd like to add: 18) custom white balance in Kelvin, and adjustable Green to Magenta (the Nikon D200 only has Kelvin but not Green/Magenta) 19) Wireless Pre-flash TTL (which Nikon copied and called the Creative Lighting System) 20) Auto ISO 21) Super Steady Shot meter tells you how steady you are. I call it a confidence/anti-chimp meter. 5-6 stops of SSS are possible if you can get it down to one bar. The upcoming Sony will have more knobs and buttons like the Konica Minolta 7D, including the very handy AF/MF toggle button at your right thumb in addition to one in front ala Nikon. |

QUOTE(tom_k3nt @ Jun 25 2007, 10:59 AM) Hi all Sifu, pls advise should i get the Kit lens when buying the Alpha? 18-70 is a cheap lens with decent image quality, compare to other 18-55 kit lens, it performs better and it is vignetting free and also no visible purple fringing. My main purpose will be use for travelling and normal photo shooting.. Not into Macro shots... SHould i just get the body and get 3rd party lens? What lens? How much(New and 2nd hand)? Unless you have more money to get the Tamron 17-50 F2.8, if not 18-70 will serve you for general purpose. You have an option to get 18-200, all round lens that good for travel, but the image quality not that good and a bit slow. Second option is to get the 18-70 and a tele like 70-300(which I am letting it go) so to cover the whole range from 18-300. Until the day you require more from your camera or until the day you know which area you want to upgrade then you may choose other lens to replace. |

actually for good walk around lens the 18-200 is better choice, the pix quality is pretty decent, it's rather compact without the hood, a tad heavier but miles more flexible. if budget is a constrain the kit 18-70 is a good choice as it's one of the better ones compared to other brand
if $ is no problem - pack the body with the carl zeiss 16-80 - this lens is pretty much the darling of lenses for alpha now. edit - if you dun mind 3rd party lens can check out the just launched 18-250 tamron - it's getting great review and i start seeing it on sale in malaysia lately This post has been edited by kitman: Jun 25 2007, 04:11 PM |

agreed with vX-2, one lens is never enough (referring to 18-200 suggested by hitman).
if have enough budget, don't buy the kit lens, start with either Tamron 17-50/2.8 or CZ 16-80, i prefer Tamron for the constant aperture. get a prime lens (Sony 50/1.4 or KM 50/1.7 or even Tamron 90/2.8SP macro) or a mid range tele (KM 70-210/4 highly recommended) later. |

Actually, if you look at a F3.5-4.5 lens it can be read as averaging F4 aperture. That makes the 24-105mm F3.5-4.5 very versatile, and I often feel that 105mm is good enough on a walkaround.
The CZ 16-80mm has its merits for being very sharp wide open. If you want to shoot in low light, the 17-50mm F2.8 might not be bright enough, which is where a Sony 50mm F1.4, Sony 35mm F1.4G, Sigma 30mm F1.4 or Sigma 20mm F1.8 comes in. However, given a choice between the 18-200mm and 18-250mm I'd choose the 18-250mm. Both are quite slow to focus and have darker apertures. |

tom_k3nt: Next time say hi! (Though I wonder how you recognized me.)
I had two small bags la. The Lowepro Mini is one of the smallest camera bags for SLRs I see around. I like to split the load between two bags instead of one big bag. Yeah I was using the wireless flash on top of the Transformer exhibits at Robotcon 2007 on the lower ground floor. |

I wouldnt really suggest that... in my opinion, changing lens is a must... otherwise, y u want to buy other lenses when u arent going to use them? Might as well not buy them at the 1st place, rite? And changing lens is a skill too... 'pro' can swap their lens on the spot in minutes.. Also, u can consider using a good lens E.g. the 80-200mm F2.8, but just stand alil further from ur object and shoot... or stand on higher ground to avoid other 'photographers' that might be shooting at the same object.. by doing so, u can create a different angle as well... a sort of win-win situation.. but you do have a point... so it's all down to the photographers 'desired'.. quality vs. convenience.. just my 2 cent This post has been edited by vX-2: Jul 2 2007, 08:52 PM |

I think all of this is depend on how thick is our wallet....in foreign country it is common that a photographer owned whole bunch of lenses, when they go shooting, they will choose the correct lens to suit his/her theme. Imagine how grant will be if I can be like that....
For poor guy like me, I am not afford to buy so many lens, so I will take: standard zoom: 18-70 (for general usage) tele : 70-210 ( for special event and portrait) wide angle prime (for street photo and portrait) Macro( or cheap solution extension tube or close up filter) External Flash If you have more $$ power, you have even more variety of choices for you, like you can buy a 18-250 only to serve you when travelling. As for me, this all round lens 18-250 is good for travel, but if you are not always travel, end up the lens will only sit in the dry box as you will not choose to bring it out for shooting when you have other better lens. But if you have extra money to buy it, then why not? |

The 350D has a horribly small grip, which I never realized until I tried a Canon 70-200mm F4L IS on it. My friend needed to get the battery grip to quickly flip to portrait orientation.
The A100, however, has no problem with the Minolta 70-210mm F4 beercan. Same weight also! I can quickly tilt it left OR right (which the battery grip won't let you do) with no strain. Frankly, you don't need a vertical grip unless you intend to put a 70-200mm F2.8 on it. Don't know about you guys, but I think the Sony has the best AF point layout, with diagonal sensors on the rule-of-thirds. Shooting along the rule-of-thirds also helps a lot with hyperfocal focusing, but that's quite hard to understand unless you shot landscapes with manual focus cameras. Don't forget that the Sony 50mm F1.4 at RM1300 or less is helped by SuperSteadyShot. The combination of bright lens, high ISO and SSS lets you shoot in darker places. Roadside mamaks. Theater performances. Gigs. Dinners (without flash!) Slow shutter night scenes with flash (with less motion blur in the background). The people who say you don't need image stabilization are the same people who say "let's go to the zoo, so we can bring out our cameras!" and then keep them away in the evening because it's too dark for them to shoot anything. I bring my camera everywhere. SSS helps me out a lot. Pop the kit lens on and shoot a evening scene without a tripod at 1/4s. No problem! Crispy details ensured. How about room lighting? For those with a point-and-shoot with manual control, or a dSLR, try to shoot a newspaper at full wide, F3.5 ISO400 without flash. You might find you get a shutter speed of 1/4s. Without stabilization you'd get smudged text. The immediate "I can pick up my camera and shoot this!" feeling of having stabilization is great! |

Can't agree more than that, I didn't realise how useful was the SSS until I tried the 400D & D40. I have a pair of steady hands and am manage to take a decent shot with my A100 as slow as 1/3 to 1/5s. That were not the case for the other 2.How about room lighting? It'll be unfair if I say 400D is a bit un-user friendly to me, I used to own a EOS 50 but I am impressed by Sony's user interface, especially the function dial on the top left. On lens choice, I think the existing 3rd party and Minolta lenses in the market are sufficient for most users need. Btw, how often people here (others than pro or those who shoot for their living) get a lens 2-3 times of their monthly income? |

nairud: All focused in the middle? I don't get what you mean. Note that the AF points look different; the center square is a cross-type sensor, while the four arranged in a cross-shape are horizontal line-type sensors. The diagonal ones, on the intersection of rule-of-thirds, also indicate how the line-type sensors are oriented.
The big rectangle emcompassing everything shows where wide AF would focus on. The small circle shows where the spot meter is. The diagonal sensors are placed in the same position as the 400D's rectangle of AF points. That's a major improvement over the 350D. I've never needed to AF on something in the frame in the outer 4 sensors of the 400D. A bit too far out. ...of course, even a D200 user craves the Pentax K10D's many cross-type sensors. Yesterday I got my external flash Sigma EF-500 DG ST, very worth for the price with the good features. It fits the A100 well, I have no problem to shoot indoor picture now....with bounce technic, the pic comes out nice... I am now working on the DIY diffuser to get rid of some shadows after bouncing...

Cool! A guide number of 50m is great for this price.
You can pull out the diffuser almost all the way out, so it sticks upwards but does not fold. I find that this works for giving a little fill. Also try it turned around 180 degrees, so the diffuser panel faces the subject. I actually prefer this to the Stofen Omnibounce and Lightsphere, and it sucks less battery too! Unfortunately the EF-500 DG ST does not have wireless or HSS support. The Sony HVL-36AM has... but it doesn't have a built-in wide panel diffuser, swiveling head or strobe/manual power control. HSS (High Speed Sync) means you can use the flash at a shutter speed faster than 1/160s, useful for fill flash in bright daylight. However, you can work around this by stopping down the aperture. If the Sigma EF-500 DG Super is significantly cheaper than the Sony HVL-F56AM (RM1200 around Sg. Wang) it could be considered, though the Metz 54 MZ-4i does look far more interesting. |

If you have more budget, definitely the 56AM is the best choice, but for poor man like, I choose Sigma over 36AM because: (1) GN50 (2) Swivel and bounce head (3) Build in 17mm wide panel, and when you pull out the panel, the flash will know and set the flash power accordingly. (4) Manual full power or 1/16 low power. (5) -7 degree bouce downwards for macro shoot (6) HSS/FP (7) Support TTL/ADI (8) Can do burst mode with flash ( i had tried 2~3 burst with flash) (9) Bright AF light can reach 9m.(not like build in flash, use the flash as AF, this is slower than the infared AF light) The drawback is No wireless control. But then for this price, I think is acceptable. |

tom_k3nt: Congratulations!
cityfish: Whoa, 9 meters. I haven't measured how far my AF assist light goes. It's not infrared, though, just red. |

Elo Sifu sekalian, i would like to ask... i wanna capture picture of the sun beam... but when i do so... sometimes i am sort of pointing my camera around the Sun.. actually i would ask... pointhing the camera directly at the sun will kill my ccd/cmos sensor right?

No, it won't spoil your CCD because the metering already will choose a very fast shutter speed. Unless, of course, you overexpose it.
However, looking at the sun through the viewfinder will spoil your eyes! What I've done when I needed to shoot the sun is choose Aperture Priority, roll down to F22, and hold down the Depth Of Field Preview button (circle button at the front, below the lens mount, near the right handgrip). The view will darken significantly so you can frame the picture with the sun. You can then shoot. |

No, the CCD will not be exposed to the sun when you are looking through the lens.
Let's see how light comes in; it comes in through the lens, passes the open aperture blades, reflects off the mirror, bounces about in the pentaprism and comes to your eye. The mirror is slightly transparent so light can go to a hidden mirror and go to light sensors at the bottom, which do metering. The meter detects that there is SO MUCH BRIGHT LIGHT and so it chooses a very fast shutter speed, maybe 1/2000th of a second. When you press the shutter, it closes the aperture blades to the aperture chosen, flips up the mirror and opens the shutter for the shutter speed chosen. Only THEN does the CCD get the sunlight. Because the mirror is up, you cannot see anything. In 1/2000th of a second, the shutter closes back and the mirror returns down. Therefore, the CCD is only exposed for 1/2000th of a second so it's okay. |

Comparing A100 and E510:
A100 plus points: - bigger viewfinder (1.5x crop) - less depth of field because of bigger sensor - SuperSteadyShot for 3.5 stops of stabilization - cheap second-hand Minolta lenses (not so easy, but not hard to find) - wireless flash since the Minolta days - ALL lenses, even DT lenses, can be used on Minolta film bodies for wider angles (18-70mm at 22mm, 11-18mm at 13mm) - Popular Tamron and Sigma lenses come common in the Alpha mount - future Alpha body has excellent layout E510 plus points: - more depth of field because of smaller sensor - better key layout (I have to admit, I like being able to see all the settings in the viewfinder) - SuperSonic Wave Filter that actually works (this is the only anti-dust solution that really works at the moment) - Live View (recommended to use manual focus) - about any brand lens can mount on the E510 because it has the most lens mount adapters and is the easiest to adapt E510 minus points: - almost no second-hand lenses other than the cheap lenses (because FourThirds mount is very new) - Image Stabilization only seems to work up to 2.5 stops or so I tried - very few F1.4 lenses. New FourThirds ones would be expensive and not quite... around, just yet. - no wireless flash - pressing halfway down on the shutter in Live View will not auto-focus; instead, when you full-press, it will take anywhere up to 3 seconds to auto-focus before shooting. You'd certainly lose the moment and point of having a SLR. - the dial is at the back instead of the front. I personally prefer it in front of the shutter. - Popular Tamron and Sigma lenses are NOT common and sometimes NOT produced in the FourThirds mount |

Yes, true about Sigma lens for olympus. I tried searching around but most of the shops I went to don't sell them. Imaging a 105mm sigma macro on an olympus = 210mm!
So i've settle for the 35mm macro. Not enough budget for the 50mm macro though XD This post has been edited by R a D ! c 4 L: Aug 3 2007, 07:48 AM |

I use a Lowepro Nova Mini AW, but that's quickly becoming very cramped the more stuff I get. I'm thinking of bringing my Sony HVL-F56AM pouch to a cobbler to add a belt clip (the Nikon SB-800's pouch has it, but the Sony's doesn't). That way I can carry one tele in the bag and have a flash outside.
zaimwfv: Go register at http://www.clubalpha.net. You need to have a Sony Malaysia registered unit to join, though. They have contests monthly, with prizes like flashes, macro lenses, wide lenses, macro ring flashes, etc. Very cool stuff. |

damn.... still thinking between 400d or a-100
a-100 has good feature, ergonomics and value 400d has better image quality, but claimed to have poor battery performance |

warranty even if getting the camera from normal dealer (fotokem, key color, foto shang etc etc) or from sony style is the same - they are both covered by sony malaysia and you can send them to local sony service centers for warranty claim ...... unless the set is water good or something like that.
a-100 image and eos400d image are both good. the eos400d only have the edge when doing low light. the a-100 performance in low light are good, just not as good as the eos400d. |

I believe some of you guys should know there's Sony fair at the Center court west lobby of Midvalley, right? I did asked the price from them and the promotion package they gave is just the standard single lens package with all package accessories but..... without the 4GB CF or MS, no camera bag, no free gift.. nothing. It just purely the body, lens, battery, charger, software, manual and some tiny things that's all. Yet the price still RM2999. But what they did free is a HVL-F36AM Flash worth RM1150 normal price. What do you guys think?
I were just considering whether to buy from them or not, there comes this forum which i has go through and found this Key Color name. Called them, they offer RM2699 for single lens full package + free bag + tripod + 4GB + screen protector. What's different between the fair and Key Color is no free RM1150 at Key Color but then gain discount benefits and those bag stuff. Which offer do you guys think worth more? Thx. |

Sony Alpha cam bag quite expensive.. Around RM150 - 400. Play play.. Failed to squeeze them to gift it to me as they said Flash itself already worth everything. Perhaps the carrying case can check at Key Color.
Between, i choose the RM2999 package from Sony fair that free the RM1150 Flash + 2GB CF(which I hardly squeezed from them). I think the flash is worth than Key Color's discount RM2699 which include cheap casing, cheap tripod and 4G memory card. Am still learning on how to use the precious Alpha.. ![]() LCS-AMSC30 (RM390.00) - α (Alpha) D-SLR Soft Carrying Case ![]() ![]() LCS-AMA/D OR LCS-AMA/B (RM170.00) - α (Alpha) D-SLR Soft Carrying Case This post has been edited by badguy03: Aug 27 2007, 12:11 PM |

I just get the Alpha with most of my money. Now definitely no money for any other lens. Not even ur 50mm F1.4. Besides, me too haven't got any case for my precious yet lar. No money yet to get it. Haih.. But without the case, i can't bring it out to capture nice things. All case is around RM100. |

Just in case anybody mobs me, for the record my Cosina is a 70-210mm F2.8-4 (which isn't completely F2.8 all the way...)
I have the big Sony bag, that's a bit too big I must admit. I got it for RM200 with extra battery back when I bought my camera at Boeing Sg. Wang. ALL Minolta AF lenses work with the Sony A100. No need to rechip or anything. Same goes for Sigma, Tamron and Tokina lenses. As long as it says "Minolta AF" it will work. If you're looking for Tamron lenses for Sony, Leos Trading, 1st floor, Ampang Park has ALL the Tamrons people like (18-250mm F3.5-6.3, 17-50mm F2.8, 28-75mm F2.8, 90mm F2.8 Macro) for Sony/Minolta mount. Personally, I would prefer the top end for flash. The Sigma ST doesn't have wireless, and the Sony F36 doesn't have manual power/swivel head. Everybody will want to upgrade from a lower-end flash (no matter which brand) so you're better off getting the big flash first. (RM1150 is the cheapest big flash among the big three.) The RM10,888 price for the Sony 70-200mm F2.8G SSM is the Sony Recommended Retail Price. You can expect MUCH cheaper prices at Tarita Sg. Wang. |

QUOTE(soulfly @ Aug 27 2007, 09:18 PM) what's the differences between the ST and Super... and which one is normally cheaper? both have similar spec from what i see. ST has no wireless support, no LCD at the back, only 2 step manual output.SUPER can support wireless, with illuminated LCD, range of manual power setting. Both support swivel and bouncing, wide angle, GN50 and high speed synchronization. ST around RM550 SUPER around RM950. Added on August 28, 2007, 9:07 pm QUOTE([Raven] @ Aug 27 2007, 09:31 PM) how much do they roughly cost? i know the Sony flash is about RM 1.1K if i'm not mistaken if you look in sungei wang the street price for Sony F36AM around RM850, F56AM around RM1200, this is about 2 months ago price, not sure raise or down now.Get F56AM if you have more budget. QUOTE the street price for Sony F36AM around RM850, F56AM around RM1200, this is about 2 months ago price, not sure raise or down now. Oh.. it's actually that cheap har.. Wonder why Key Color didn't want to offer cheaper package for me that day since like that. Ask him to free the CF to me also don't want. Get F56AM if you have more budget. So means I can get cheaper lens from Minolta AF when i need more advance photo captures. Great. This post has been edited by badguy03: Aug 28 2007, 11:06 PM |

Try Leos Trading in first floor, Ampang Park, next to the escalator. They stock about all the popular Tamrons for Sony/Minolta.

Yes, Key Color may have it too, but not as sure as in Ampang Park. Besides, Ampang Park is on the Kelana Jaya PUTRA LRT line, very easy to get there! (If you're scared of bringing your camera on the LRT... you're not gonna get any nice street shots.)
The Tamron 18-200mm should be around RM1500. No idea about the Sigma. I have a lot of lenses, but it's good discipline to have a small bag so you can only carry maybe 2 lenses a day. I doubt the small Sony bag can fit more than one lens unless both are small prime lenses, like the 50mm F1.4 and 28mm F2.8. |

Probably i should get there by LRT then. But don't really like LRT these days as the rate increased til quite expensive in addition need to squeeze with so many people if get in at the wrong time.

Got it for RM150. Nice quality albeit the small size. The bigger case is big but expensive... like RM3++. I don't have much money left... poor student
For the time being, the small bag is enough for me to keep my camera, plus spare memory cards/batteries/caps/lenses, small-small things. Very convenient to carry also. |

![]() Wow... A300 ler.. The design skin looked more simple compare with the current Alpha. The design give me a first impression feel which is.. It's similar level like a d80. Price wise i guess sure won't be cheap. But then, this proved one thing. Sony won't falls so easily on DSLR as mentioned by many people. (Wonder how many ppls dropped their spectacle) |

The vertical grip is aligned to the bottom, so you don't feel weird when you use it in portrait mode, like you gotta move your right hand higher or your left eye lower. It's one of those things Minolta did that was a lot smarter.
The future Sony vertical grip also has the 9-point AF selector. It's the most loaded of the vertical grips you'd ever see. Also note the grip sensor; only when you hold it and put your eye to the viewfinder, Continuous AF starts. This Sony is more of D200 level, as it replaces the Konica Minolta 7D. Wait till you see the back, it has a LOT MORE buttons for quicker access to everything. Something like the Pentax K10D. |

When it comes out, and when I have enough money, which is in December, LOL. I think a lot of dSLRs will be shifting hands, I'm sure of that.
Oh, the Sony A700 has leaked out, first in some Russian site, with a flash, then on the UK site, and then they took it down. Fortunately I got to watch the flash file and snapped screenshots. ![]() I LOVE: - AF/MF switch on the back. No other brand has this. AF on, yes. But not a button to go into MF when you're in AF. For ALL lenses. - 12.24 MP ExMor CMOS sensor with ISO3200 + 6400. Much cleaner than the old CCD. - 921k 3" LCD screen. Like the Nikon D300 - Sony Ericsson-style AF point selector. Also lets you go through the shooting settings - vertical grip has everything on it including the AF-selector dial!!! - front and rear dials - proper Sony Infolithium battery (notice the 95% bar?) - kit lens is a 16-105mm F3.5-5.6! - weathersealing - double cross-type sensor in the middle. Every other dSLR has a normal cross-type sensor which is half as sensitive. This means that AF is as fast as the Minolta Dynax 7 film body, which claimed to have the fastest AF of its time. - changeable focusing screens for manual focus and architecture - supplied infrared remote controller (yes, wireless!) I love 16mm on 1.5x crop, and I love 105mm. It's far enough zoom for me compared to 70mm on the old kit lens. ![]() This was taken from another site. This is a screenshot that has been brightened for those of you on dark CRT monitors. It has the superb Carl Zeiss 85mm F1.4 ZA lens. ![]() More details here: http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.pht...-revealed.phtml |

Nice one there Albert.
Even though the ISO performance for the new sensor is still debatable but some features and handling ergonomics had improved. The front and rear dial like Nikon is god sent. Big LCD and weathersealing is definitely a must. And dam it, i like the jog dial for AF point selector but the issue is dunno it will end up like SE phones which a lot have the problem with the jog dial after like 1 year usage. The range of the kitlens is definitely good but the wireless remote, they should implemented it on A100 as well. The vertical grip is good as well but it is come wtih the camera? But what i feel still miss in this model is the external status top LCD to conserve battery power and hard button for ISO and WB (can't really see what are the top buttons behind the shutter for) |

The front and rear dials have been there since the Minolta Dynax 7 film SLR at least. Don't know who came up with it first, but it was removed in the Konica Minolta 5D which is the basis for the A100.
The Dynax 7 also got rid of the top LCD and put a glorious large LCD on the back. People look at mine and think it's a digital SLR. A back LCD means you don't look so stupid when you've got the camera on a tripod in portrait mode. You can chimp and set settings in one go. Plus I hate squinting on those darned tiny top LCDs e.g. the D80. The A100 has had great battery power anyway regardless of the screen. It is not Sony that proprietarized the flash hotshoe. It was Minolta. Reason being that too many flashes were being screwed on too tightly, getting stuck PERMANENTLY (and getting decapitated due to freak accidents), or screwed on loosely, and falling off cameras. Thus Minolta invented the quick-release flash hotshoe (and wireless TTL flash, while at it). All brands have proprietary flash hotshoes anyway; they have different pin layouts on top. At least other brands caught on and put quick-release levers. Their implementations haven't done so well; you'd still hear of a Pentax AF-540 FGZ (their biggest flash) getting stuck on a body. Canon's original 580EX is STILL screw on. The A700 also has a PC Sync socket, which means full studio light compatibility. Adapters from PC Sync to standard ISO hotshoe are easily available at studio light shops. That said, third-party flashes aren't all that great; the Sigma EF-500 DG Super cannot use manual power mode in wireless, and lacks the guide number of the Sony HVL-F56AM. |

Some useful price guide HERE
Sony A700 body = 178k Yen / RM5.4k Canon 40D = 148k Yen / RM4.5k Nikon D300 = 228k Yen / RM7k hope there'll be some reviews soon, it's priced higher than 40D and I would like to see if A700 gives a better value for its performance. |

I don't even have enough time to completely play around with the alpha yet. Have to catch up and learn it soon. NICE CAR SOME MORE |

tom_k3nt: I like the cactus shot! Did you put a UV filter then polarizer on your lens? I can see some darkening in the top-right corner.
It's not a replacement for the A100. It has more buttons, much better AF, etc. Only when you know all the limits of the camera should you upgrade. And yes, if I didn't buy my A100 (and then buy a lot of second-hand lenses) I didn't know I could afford this, either. Have to wait for bonus lor. When I think back on how much I spent in total over the past 9 months, I wonder how also. |

A cheap 55mm CPL filter, not Hoya brand, will cost under RM120.
badguy03: You can be sure of it. The Minolta or Sony 50mm F1.4 is a great lens. |

That's y i wondering what lens alpha user should commonly add on. |

The 50mm lenses are a very common add-on; it cannot zoom but it works great in low light, and is good for portraits.
It is not a macro lens, though. Go join http://www.clubalpha.net, there are some people who want to sell their macro lens there. |

Anyway I already sold it and now use extension tube for my macro shots. |

"At the end of this tryout, the various participants agreed that the A700 is a camera designed by photographers for photographers. The message coming is that Sony is very serious about the SLR business. If the A700 is the "advanced amateur" model, it makes you wonder what that future "flagship" model is going to be like." p/s: They really did a good job for reducing the noise... I'm impress! |

QUOTE(soulfly @ Sep 11 2007, 08:06 PM) Close up filter is the cheapest solution for you to shoot macro, around RM50 for a 55mm filter. However, the image quality will have some extent of degradation as there is an add-on lens element at front. Besides, it is also bit hard for the camera to lock focus when attach the filter on. You may need to use MF most of the time.Using extension tube will make any lens becomes a macro lens, it is just a tube without any optical element on it, that means there won't be any image quality drop issue. Normally it comes with 12mm, 24mm and 36mm as a set, so that you may use any one of them or a combination for your needs. I am not sure how much is the new one, I bought mine second hand at RM350. The drawback also same with close up filter, there is only some certain focal range your subject will be in focus, so you need to play around your zoom or move yourself closer or away from the subject to get it in focus. |

I don't know of any sites, but:
Take your lens and look at it from the back. There is a lever that will turn clockwise around the lens if you use your fingernail to push it. Look through the lens while doing that; you will notice that the aperture blades will open. Zoom your lens in and out with your left hand. Point it at bright light and look around the edges. You can see dust, but that is normal and will not affect your image. Fungus has many types but it does not look like dust. It usually looks like spiderwebs or crystals. Bad, thick fungus will lower the contrast. Put the lens on the camera. Straight away ANYONE can tell if the lens looks... foggy. However, most Sony and Minolta lenses have a lot of contrast, so even if there is fungus, we can still get a clear picture. Also, because contrast is lower, auto-focus will be slower. If you find a fungused lens, put it in a dry box, or a dry air-tight container. Put Thirsty Hippo in the same container and it won't grow anymore. You can send it to J-One at Amcorp Mall, Cheah Repair at Mutiara Complex Jalan Ipoh, International Camera at Pertama Complex or YL Camera in Pudu Plaza. If the lens has a little fungus they will recommend not to open it, and just keep in a dry box, and if it gets worse only they'll clean it. |

The Sony HVL-F56AM is already the lowest priced in Sg. Wang compared to Nikon and Canon's 'big' flashes, so I doubt you can get it any cheaper.
Sony HVL-F56AM (guide number 56m) - RM1170+ Nikon SB-800 (guide number 56m) - RM1300+ Canon 580EX (guide number 58m) - RM1530+ All of them come with wireless, manual power and strobe mode. Wireless capability depend greatly on the body used. It is unlikely that someone will sell their F56. The weaker F36 is more likely to be sold, since it has less features and less reach. Again, go to Key Color and Sg. Wang for competitive prices. |

Hmm.. RM400 for the 50/1.7 + UV filter is expensive for an used lens...
New Canon and Nikon 1.8 are well below RM400... I wonder if Sony will revive this lens at a more affordable price... |

Hi guys, I haven't been posting on this site for a while now (in fact, a very long while). Glad to know the alpha thread is positively growing here!
Anyway, regarding the Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens, I am really hooked onto this lens. The sharpness was just great. I got the lens at RM400, bundled together with a UV filter (for the 50mm) as well as a 55mm CPL filter (for my SAL1780 kit lens). The fact that the used lens price is more or less constant simply implies that this is a hot item (like the beercan) and commands such a price. So when you get a good sample of this lens, you know it is worth it. To poison you guys more with this lens, here are a couple of photos I took with this lens: 1# ![]() 2# ![]() |

Any idea how much A700 is going to cost in Klang Valley?
I'm thinking to upgrade when I go back this Dec, if the price is right. If not I'll buy some lenses and wait for another six months for the price drop. |

The actual street price is around RM100-300 more than the Canon 40D's street price.

There are a few disadvantages to having a 18-200mm, or anything that spans a big zoom range:
- the 18-200mm is F3.5-6.3, and it reaches F5.6 very very soon, I think about 90mm. - F6.3 is a bit too dark for stage performances where flash is not allowed - F6.3 is also a bit too dark to blend ambient light when using flash photography - the gearing of the lens is slower. That means much slower focusing speed. To find out the gearing, look at the focus screw on the back of the lens while turning the focus ring from minimum focusing distance to infinity. Some very fast lenses make just 2.4 turns; the specific zooms take about 11 turns; the 18-200mm if I remember took over 20. |

Just wondering if buy Sigma 18-200 OS lens, will it "conflict" with our Super Steady Shot? or will enhance it?

Forget about Sigma 18-200, I've read some reviews and I think the best all in one lens will be Tamron 18-250mm macro. It's slightly less than RM2k.

It will conflict I believe. Imagine two unstable mechanism together vibrating at different frequency. As I mention, if you're using an OS lens, just disable the SSS.

The Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OS does not come in the Alpha A-mount or Pentax K-mount, which have in-body stabilization. We can get the cheaper Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 without OS.
Who was there at the launch? Oh and: ![]() More details here: http://www.glaringnotebook.com/default.asp?id=959 ifer: He must be Azrul or Ted! I have to agree with Azrul when he says the Alphas make excellent black-and-white. RM 10,000 for that lens
albnok: he is azrul. in fact, i was over at his place when he showed me the photos on his computer. too bad he returned the camera already if not i sure play play. at first i was shock to see him take black and white photos... but seeing that he is kinda famous for black and white photos... it is normal for him to do so. then i thought maybe those japanese might not happy with it... what with saturation and everything 14bits and everything. then he told me that it was the black and white function of the alpha 700... and i my jaw dropped to the floor. i mean, this is probably the most beautiful black and white function photograph a dslr can give. the tonal range, the sharpness, everything... it's almost film... a conventional black and white film effect. brilliant work sony. though i dislike the alpha 100, you guys prove me wrong in alpha 700. i haven't seen any of the colour works though. as i said, azrul shot everything in black and white. jpeg only. no RAW... QUOTE(harrychoo @ Oct 4 2007, 06:07 PM) I think the reason for the customer to return the a100 is less important. The main point is since it only got 30 days warranty, means it must have already over the original warranty period. The 30 days should be from the shop themselves, not from Sony. |

[Raven]: The street price for the Sony 70-200mm F2.8G SSM is a tad lower, thank goodness.
ifer: Yes, when I lowered the contrast and ISO, it looked like... uh... I'm not sure, since I don't shoot black and white, but it definitely has smooth tones, very familiar. In high contrast and ISO 6400, it looked T-Max like. I'll play around with it somemore with one of my softer lenses to see if I can squeeze out a soft-glowing Lucky look. The A100 is also good at black-and-white; B&W shots had much more contrast on a naked lens than when I put a red filter on it. In color, the range (especially on the mids) and tonality has vastly improved over the A100. The A100 and Canon 400D are prone to underexposure and reddishness; the A700 had none of that, while removing the cyanish tinge of daylight photos in AWB. |

T-series antishake is fake, not optical or sensor type, right?
If both optical and body stabilizer, guarantee got problem. Conflict because two things vibrate/shake at different frequencies. This post has been edited by soulfly: Oct 5 2007, 10:54 PM |

400d has better noise control than a100 at higher ISO, but reviews found that it lacked detail compare to a100 due to the noise processing.

Oops, you can't test wireless flash unless you already have the Sony HVL-F36AM or F56AM flash, or the Minolta 3600HS or 5600HS.
Did you know? Minolta came up with wireless TTL flash first. (Minolta's SLR line was then bought over by Sony.) |

kelvinyam: Yes, the popup flash transmits wireless flash signals. Technical details here:
http://www.friedmanarchives.com/flash.htm The prices dropped in September. Head to a Sony Style and look for the newsletter near the Alpha booth; there's a list of new prices. (My face is also in it but that's another story.) Of course, you can expect good discounts from Sungei Wang Plaza. kenzio: The Sony A700 can be gotten for RM4600 (or less) in Sungei Wang Plaza. |

Head to a Sony Style and look for the newsletter near the Alpha booth; there's a list of new prices. (My face is also in it but that's another story.) Of course, you can expect good discounts from Sungei Wang Plaza. kenzio: The Sony A700 can be gotten for RM4600 (or less) in Sungei Wang Plaza. |

yes you get free classes from the photography forums. Monthly there are workshops for you to attend as long as you are an Alpha user.
a kit set, with a 50mm f1.4 is not possible to get below 3K if you buy brand new. Second hand, perhaps you can. a brand new kit set will range you from 2.5K onwards or slightly lower, that would be, the street price. This post has been edited by [Raven]: Oct 22 2007, 11:00 PM |

Guys, there's another new model for the alpha series, anyone can confirm this? It's not the a700 and the a100 for sure.

There is no 18-300mm.
There is a Sony 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 DT and a NEW Sony 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DT. Or you could be confused with the Tamron 28-300mm. There is also a Sony 75-300mm F4.5-5.6. I know people who are selling the A100 second-hand, with 18-70mm kit lens. There are also people selling the 75-300mm. Yes, a Sony/Minolta 50mm F1.4 or Minolta 50mm F1.7 is good for indoors BUT it is a bit zoomed, like 2x zoom on your digital camera. Yes, I bought the 50mm F1.4 so I didn't have to use flash. There are Sony Alpha workshops, which you can sign up for FREE! Just head down to Sony KLCC and ask. There are also outings planned in the Malaysian Sony Alpha forum - http://www.alpha-community.com.my/. The other model which will come out in the future is the proposed Sony A900, with possibly a full-frame sensor. |

Call in to Key Photo Midvalley.. Selling A-100 for Rm2599, Twin lens for Rm 3199. Including 8gb card, Tripod, Beg etc... Good bargain?
I think the Twin lens really good bargain..but not sure the 75-300mm will be useful for me or not for the meantime.. I think i prefer 18-70mm + 50mm f 1.4. More suitable since often taking interior subjects. But the 50mm lens by sony r so expensive.. 1.6k! Any other option? Minolta 50 mm f1.7? Still selling out ther? |

albnok, tell me whether i should go for KM 50mm f1.7 or Tamron 17-50mm f2.8?
or should i just get the KM first, and get the Tamron later? if only Sony has f1.8 .... the f1.4 is just too expensive (including other brands, not Sony only) This post has been edited by soulfly: Oct 23 2007, 09:09 PM |

Got my Alpha back in July but have been extremely busy that I have not really played with it much yet. Got only the 18-70mm kit package but added the F56 flash.

If you have the budget, can consider on getting it lo. But it depends a lot on wat type of photos you'll be taking or want to take.
If there's not much outdoor shooting, I think the 18-70mm kit will be sufficient for now. Buy more lens later. Aiming to get a macro lens sometime next year.... |

As the old saying, "eat till old, learn till old". Just you are at intermediate level while I'm still an amateur and I'm so envy of you to have so many chances to practice. Lets learn together and I'm hoping to learn from you too! |

I'll only take Alpha Shooters. that way you'll be able to practice. Weddings are the best place for you to practice on capturing the right moment. i still find it hard to do! lolAdded on October 28, 2007, 10:30 pm QUOTE(clivengu @ Oct 28 2007, 10:08 PM) IC...u r doing event planning for wedding too? and Broadcasting? you have plenty of jobs around~ well broadcasting is mainly my day job. I'm working for a broadcasting company (radio) and i handle promotions and sponsorship there. during weekends or whenever needed, i will do other things like photography and such.good to have some side income once in a while. Yeah, wedding is obviously the best place to practice, must have the right settings, right lighting and at the right moment to cover the whole wedding event. Not many chances to shoot weddings though. |

I have an event coming up on the 6th and 7th, and 10th of November which are entertainment industry related. might open up for people to come and shoot.one of the events involves an American Artiste coming down. interested participants pls reply to this thread soon. Due to Canon having so much luxurious white L lenses, therefore its called the White or Bright side, so on the other hand, Nikon which the only one competing with Canon is called the Darkside! |

i read somewhere, if you know how to tweak the a100 properly, the image quality is actually comparable to d200
i didn't regret getting my a100... i tell u the super-steady shot really really helpful when you're zooming or using slow shutter speed. |

QUOTE([Raven) cant remember much the detail... if not mistaken it was referring to RAW at ISO800 quality.anyway... for wedding photography, which lens better.... sony 50mm f1.4, km 50mm f1.7 or tamron 17-50mm f2.8? consider low lighting indoor, some outdoors and might also need some wide angle photo. as we know, i already have my kit lens, but should the tammy1750 f2.8 fully replace the kitlens? or should i get a hvl-36am flash unit? but for the time being, i still know nuts on how to use an external flash properly. the thing is, which of these should i get first? i got 2 weddings booked for december and how much is the sal1870 kitlens resale price? it's about less than 3 months old. Also on the 14 - 18th of November, hitz.fm will be having an event at 1 Utama New Wing. HP Dares you Enter The Dragon with hitz.fm so yea, if you wanna take pictures of Radio Deejays come on 18th Nov at 4 pm |

Just curious can you share why you take sony a700 then the rest like (canon 40d, nikon) ? I don't hope to turn into a flame war or something but i think you have a700 that can share with us the strong points of it by exp on it so far. |

QUOTE(Ahmike @ Oct 31 2007, 10:51 PM) Hi Jin, Hi Ahmike, Just curious can you share why you take sony a700 then the rest like (canon 40d, nikon) ? I don't hope to turn into a flame war or something but i think you have a700 that can share with us the strong points of it by exp on it so far. first thing's first, i got an Alpha A100 to begin with. Rather affordable and i got it at a good price (really good price) with a 50 f1.4 and 2 other lenses including the kit. Also the Super Steady Shot features really help when you are taking pictures in a moderately dim light. Picture Quality wise, i adjust my saturation/contrast/sharpness on my camera so i get what i want. and normally i do get what i want. All those years of wondering how ppl take such nicely saturated pictures and contrasting pictures, i have it in the palm of my hand. Why the SONY? it looks good, wouldn't you agree? and it works good too. the thing i like about the Alpha A100 is how it ergonomically fits to the palms of my hand, i have big hands by the way. Another thing i like about the Camera was it has a built in CCD Censor cleaner, or something like that which helps clean the censor when needed. No doubt Nikon and Canon are the best buys in the market when it comes to photography, but buying the best camera wont necessarily get you the best pictures at all. Overall the A100 is promising, and a great camera to begin with especially when you are new into the DSLR world. Now coming to the A700, ever since i got the A100 i've been covering events. Weddings/concerts etc etc. So i knew, i needed a fast camera. If i had known that the A700 was coming out i wouldn't have gotten the A100 and just wait for a few more months, but then again i got a good deal on the camera. The A700 marks a tremendous improvement to the Alpha series in terms of Noise levels at high ISO. If you read the reviews done by international sites, this baby is contending against some of the top models in the market. and already beating them in some aspects (not all) One words explains this camera, SPEED. Its super fast and built tough. well it should be since its a semi pro DSLR. 12.2 megapixels woot! So summing up why i got the A700 Speed improved SSS Design Ergonomically accommodating Low noise levels at high ISO Sensitivity 3.5 inch screen User Friendly Picture Quality (of course, depending on the lenses you use) so get yours today! QUOTE([Raven] @ Oct 31 2007, 11:30 PM) Hi Ahmike, Wow thanks Jin for the feedback...by the way there is a *NEW* FIRMWARE for Alpha700 just saw it a dpreview.comfirst thing's first, i got an Alpha A100 to begin with. One thing is i can't find much info on the range of lens it has for alpha700 on the sony website. |

I have 2 Konica Minolta Lenses. No doubt Sony will be releasing more lenses in future. Just be patient. One thing is i can't find much info on the range of lens it has for alpha700 on the sony website. |

QUOTE(clivengu @ Nov 1 2007, 02:58 AM) Sony should pay you for advertising for them.. Hahaha.. they lack of advertising thats why is not well-known like canon..They need more advertisement, Promotion, roadshow etc.. and Alpha Guy like to promote their products.. The reason why Sony didn't promote the Alpha like what Canon does is because Sony has a wide range of product to be advertised....for instance their core product, their Bravia TV. They sell huge numbers of units daily, in the other hand, Alpha is just a newly taken over product from KM and there's no rush for them to stretch wide in photography line... Anyway.. just to come in to drop a word... Need to sleep now.. is 3am and i just back from office... Really hoping i can be released during weekend to go get my Alpha |

I think it's an understatement of Sony NOT having a wide-range of lens....
--> http://www.dcviews.com/lenses/Minolta-lenses.htm (Seeing that, it's all only Minolta lens not accounting to 3rd party yet) And people who wants to venture into DSLR should do more research that Sony has brought over Konica Minolta and that Minolta AF lens do fits the Alpha series... And [Raven], You should put more additional feature in that ads of yours --> Because CARL ZEISS is producing lens for SONY, (at least this is one of my main reason y i'm using the a100 instead of other brand of line). (Though not many ppl may afford CZ/ZA - but hey, at least i'm still hoping i will be able to buy them one day) EDIT: http://www.photodo.com/products.html?mount...name=Minolta+AF (variety of lens including 3rd party) This post has been edited by vX-2: Nov 1 2007, 10:16 PM |
