Noted. Too bad mine doesn't have dual sim. So, if I use the Japan sim card, I can't use my whatsapp huh. Couple of years back I screwed up whatsapp when i click "change number" in whatsapp and all, all my messages got deleted. I think this was before whatsapp implemented the chat backup via google drive hmm.gif

*
When I travel overseas for business I get my company sim card and just swap it in my phone. Whatsapp work perfectly with my own number. Not sure why you need to reconfigure it.

until he whole day ended up paying money just to sit in bus

Oh dear... that's really bad ohmy.gif given similar situation, think I'll just give up and change plan - visit nearby area rather than travel far. It's hard to even eat or walk around when it's too crowded.

So er, is anyone in Japan now? How's Golden week crowds?

road is pretty clear here, from Komatsu to Tonami and Namerikawa, Toyama. went to visit the tulip festival, pretty easy to find parking right in front of the entrance.

It will definitely worth planning a trip to Ishikawa prefecture to see the floats!

sightseeing around Noto peninsula is way better than watching floats IMO. that said, I only attended my local float festival once a couple of years ago, never enjoyed it and never went again tongue.gif

After experiencing some mild snow in nearby Tokyo (Fujikawaguchiko, Karuizawa) early this year, I want to go to Japan again next year (January/February).

Where is the better place to experience snow in Japan?

I'm not really so much into skiing since I have don't have experience in skiing.

I'd happy enough to take a stroll around the hotel area like what I did early this year. (Touching snow, kicking snow, taking pictures)

Hokkaido (Niseko, Asahikawa, etc)

or

Nagano area (Kusatsu, Shirakawago, Myoko Kogen, Shiga Kogen, etc).

That's really good price. But then the dates are at the end of the holiday season. That is why its cheap I suppose.

Really not worth going for the rush with the local Japs during the Golden week period.

Nagano area is much much nearer to Tokyo/Osaka and it's in Japan mainland. Pretty much cheaper accommodation and travelling expenses if compared to Hokkaido. Not only Hokkaido is very far from Tokyo (about 1000kms), flights to Hokkaido are particularly expensive and so is accommodation there. IMO plenty of areas to experience snow if you have not been to Nagano before.

Just wanted to ask, KANSAI ONE PASS allows us to take any bus and any train in Kyoto and Osaka right and has no expiration date (meaning it's not like those 1 or 2 day passes)..?

I think a prepaid card is more worth it for me as I won't be taking trains/busses that often as we will be mostly targeting a specific area for each day.

Based on my understanding, the word "Pass" here is a bit misleading. It's not actually a pass, it's more like a normal IC card with additional benefits. You still recharge the card as usual and tap it as you use the public transports. But you get some additional discounts at selected attractions.

Can't say i couldn't related where festivals are concerned. Overcrowding issue sometimes cripple the transportation as well. Some are worth going i think, depending on what's your expectation hmm.gif

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm aware it's not actually a "pass" but a prepaid card. This actually fits our itinerary very well.

From what I have searched, there are two train lines namely JR line and Nankai line from Kansai airport. The Kansai One Pass covers these two lines right?

Blofeld Nagano Niigata Yamagata areas are all 3hrs ish from Tokyo and have plenty of snow activities for non skiiers for a short 2 or 3 day jaunt.

Yamagata area you can go see the fox village and go to zao onsen to see the snow monsters. On your way back stop over for day onsen at kaminoyama onsen.

http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2018/02/z...-itinerary.html

Alternately go Nagano Niigata area to check out the snow monkeys. And stay overnight at an onsen town up in the mountains to walk around in the snow.

http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2016/02/n...awara-plum.html

If you don't want to travel so far then from Tokyo there are many places nearby that are day trippable, for example mt fuji area, gala yuzawa area, etc.

The IC card that comes with the kansai one pass is just like a normal IC card from any other company. So it can be used anywhere that accepts IC cards. If you don't need the additional benefits, you can just buy a normal ICOCA card too.

Device not working, not charging etc ...  getting the sim is as simple as plug and play, + the coverage and speed is relatively good
