Reporting in from Narita. Landed at 7.25, crossed immigration and customs at 7.50. Then jialat sangkut for 40mins queueing / waiting for JR pass exchange (done at 8.30)
Main JR travel Centre only opens at 8.15, in the meantime the ticket counter only got 1 person doing pass exchanges and the queue panjang gila. ![]() This post has been edited by deodorant: Jan 25 2019, 07:41 AM |

QUOTE(Chaud @ Jan 25 2019, 10:46 AM) airport side always panjang gila QUOTE(sacwoc @ Jan 25 2019, 10:57 AM) I pressume he wants to use the ticket for NEX QUOTE(tohff7 @ Jan 25 2019, 11:21 AM) Thought normally ppl will spend the first few days around Tokyo area, before activating whatever JR passes to go other areas? Sacwoc was right, I needed it for NEX. JR East passes are any 5 days (don't need to be consecutive) within a 14 day period so for my travel pattern it normally makes sense to use the 1st day for NEX, 2nd and 3rd days going to and back from ski resort, 4th day whichever random day I think I'll be using most JR within Tokyo, and 5th day NEX back to airport. |

I attended day 13 of today's tokyo sumo grand tournament despite knowing nothing about sumo!
Thanks to a bunch of obaasans sitting behind me screaming certain wrestlers' names and giving hours of live commentary, it was a really fun experience 2 things that I learned: 1. If you have a future visit to Japan that co-incides with a grand tournament, do see if you can set apart half a day (afternoon) to attend, it's great fun. 2. In a way I really pity the foreign wrestlers, basically almost all of them had zero support from the crowd if they were going up against a Japanese wrestler. Anyway here's the moment from the final match of the day where Japanese wrestler Takakeisho side-swiped Yokozuna Hakuho to the ground, sending the entire arena into a frenzy of cheers. ![]() |

QUOTE(Current Events guy @ Jan 28 2019, 10:25 PM) Whats your setting for action cam? Yeah I find that cameras and vid cameras in general underexpose snow scenes quite badly, so in post need to correct. I don't really do much though, just white balance and adjust exposure contrast saturation a bit.Going by your previous vids, it pops out. Is that because you do color correction on editing software? |

drcoolz I think you might need to adjust your expectations of what "fine dining" is.
To give you an idea of pricing, 6 years ago I had kaiseki at kichisen kyoto and it was ¥25000 a person (it's around ¥31000 now). Kichisen has 3 Michelin stars. blog: http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2013/04/s...n-chef.html?m=1 Having said that, many / most of these restaurants offer a much cheaper lunch set menu where you can get a pretty decent experience at a fraction of the cost (¥5k-15k). So if you want a full fine dining experience in Japan's best restaurants, you need to budget around ¥25k to ¥35k a pax, but if you're OK to do lunch then your rm200 budget could be doable. Sharing some pics of my visit to Toyosu market last month (for those of you who don't surf /k/) ...
QUOTE(deodorant @ Feb 20 2019, 06:23 PM) Day 2: Checking out the 'new' Toyosu Fish Market & the 'new' Gundam Unicorn at Odaiba So on Day 2, we decided to check out Toyosu fish market. We're huge fans of the old Tsukiji inner market (in a previous trip we booked AirBnB next to the market and went every other morning to shop for fish & scallops & etc for food). ![]() Turns out that the new market is probably amazing as a fish market but is terribly sterile as a tourist attraction. I'd go so far as to say it's not even worth visiting anymore. ![]() The new area is huge and the fish, vegetables, etc are split into different individual buildings, linked (for tourists) by elevated walkway. ![]() The problem is that even inside the buildings, tourists aren't allowed to mingle and get up close & personal with the seafood and stuff anymore, you're only allowed to look down from behind glass panels. ![]() In our opinion, not being able to be in the midst of the shops, looking on in amazement at all the fresh seafood, makes this experience extremely crappy, so if you've previously already visited the inner market at tsukiji, I'd seriously think twice before spending your limited vacation time here in toyosu. ![]() Disclaimer: We did turn up quite late - around 10am - so there wasn't much action to be seen anymore (as most of the wholesale shopping is done in the early morning). Perhaps visiting during a more busy time may be more interesting. |

2min video of the cup noodles factory thing at the cup noodles museum (this one was in Yokohama) for anyone who hasn't visited yet and is thinking whether it's worth visiting ...
(i don't know why the thumbnail / image is cacat) QUOTE(WhiteMaker @ Feb 23 2019, 12:06 AM) I'd like to ask, if let say I wish to stay in one place in tokyo, meaning everytime go travel will come back to the same place at night, which area to recommend to look for? For first timers, I would say anywhere within walking distance of the Yamanote line is OK. This post has been edited by deodorant: Feb 23 2019, 02:51 PM |

QUOTE(Grimtooth @ Feb 24 2019, 01:25 PM) does that mean it's gonna get warmer earlier this year? For now mar22 first bloom mar29 full bloom. You need to pray that there is no strong wind / rain those few days before you arrive because a big storm will wipe everything out. If conditions are calm then 1st April still will be very nice, trees will be mostly pink and the petals starting to drop so it's like raining petals (hanafubuki)also guess i'm gonna miss the peak since i will reach tokyo on 1st April. |

QUOTE(billysiah @ Feb 26 2019, 10:18 PM) With my gf. Hard to comment until you enrich it a bit with the places you plan to go. For example your 2 days Tokyo, how many attractions are you planning to visit? For a quick comparison, my wife and I have spent ~20 days in Tokyo over 6 visits and still haven't covered all the places the city (and surrounding areas) has to offer. |
