guys, need some tips here, what's the best/worst time to arrive at any japan airport? anything i should take note?

saw some cheap flight around November, but arrives 10.30pm Haneda Airport

Rm1124 round trip is count as cheap or not?

if got cheap ticket, might go around October too, but Tokyo autumn falls around Late Nov - Early Dec right

it's not that cold compare to Korea though.. haha i was in Korea when the temperature never go above 0.. you just keep going into shops for warmth but it gets too hot so you come out after 5 minutes.. rinse and repeat..

i was in Japan last December.. I enjoy the weather a lot.. day time 8-9 degree.. night time around 4-5 degree Celcius.. just layer properly... you can walk for hours in the nice weather 

So far my 3 times AA flight to haneda no delay la... Plus minus reach around 10.30. But i really hate rushing 1. So the 1st time solo trip i sleep airport. 2nd time & 3rd with partner n friends i book hotel near airport which provide airport transfer shuttle. 1st nite i just need a place to sleep only then 2morrow morning only depart to city hotel. But if you really want rush the late train. Actually can make it 1 la... Really need to move fast lo...

Guys, just checked that late night arrival in Japan airport is risky? I'll arrive at 1030pm in Japan. But searched online and found out that theres no train or bus after midnight. What can i do if in worst case scenario happened?

Taking cabs seems too pricey, Any alternatives?

Yes, Express Pass is a must! The crowd in USJ is way beyond your imagination, spend the money and it worth your every penny when you going through the express lane and have a look at the LONG waiting line at normal queue, felt lucky you bought the express pass! If you could afford the Cool-Japan pass, just bought along too 

Express 4 Standard:
A: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™ in 4K3D (proceed the ride in the timeslot given)

B: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (Please note: From 18 January 2019, the attraction will be change to Lupin the 3rd Car Chase XR Ride) - (proceed the ride in the timeslot given)

C: The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man Or The Ride 4K3D or Jurassic Park - The Ride™
Pick SpiderMan, Because it suitable for kids and adult, so, this will always be crowded and your express pass will do a good job here. Jurassic Park ride is a slight thrilling wet-ride, so, the line will shorter compare to SpiderMan because not everyone likes the thrilling ride.

D: JAWS™ or Terminator 2:3-D® or Backdraft™
Pick JAWS, the others two just not worth for express usage, join the normal line or skip it if too crowded.

If you intend catch all the thrill ride in USJ, best to reach the entrance gate earlier and have some photograph session with the iconic Universal Globe. When the gate open, don't wandering around and take picture, just proceed to the Hollywood Dream - The Ride & Backdrop, go for Single rider lane for these 2 rides, took me less than 25 minutes to finish these 2 ride. Next Go for the Flying Dinosaur Ride, same method, join the Single rider lane, another 15 minutes complete. And Congratulation, you completed all the High Demanding ride with minimum time needed. Now you can slow down your pace and took your time enjoy the rest in USJ.

Yes, just go on a weekday and avoid public holiday or school holiday. Then you are fine. Some ‘strategy’ based on my experience in April 2016

Gate open, straight run or walk fast to Harry Potter. Leave the sightseeing later and queue for the 4D ride. Waited about 30min at most.

Then for afternoon parade, watch it near the beginning of the parade (i watched it near the 4D Theater). Once you finish, just go to the popular ride like Spiderman etc. For me, Spiderman literally no queue. Later queuing for Jurassic Park and JAW took around 30-45mins.

just make sure is weekday. Someone here advise to avoid Monday/Friday too. Last Dec I went on Monday.. crowded.
We actually queue outside the gate 40min earlier before gate open. Is queue up to wait, so if you want to take some photo (wefie/selfie), make sure you have someone stay in the queue. Read the map and identify the spots and run towards that direction once you enter. I see all the youngsters did that (we did too). But am not sure you can cover all the rides/shows before USJ close.

If your travelling group is big, I would suggest Biwako House in Kyoto. It's just beside Lake Biwa, quite nice quiet small town. Only catch is there is no bus between accommodation and train station; you can either walk (about 1KM) or book a taxi.

If you don't mind waiting, you don't need express pass for USJ. I went on Tuesday early November last year, only 2 queues were almost an hour (Flying dinosaur and Minions Mayhem). Harry Potter ride was about 30 mins or so (I went in the evening as well), Spiderman was even shorter.

abt transportation..got a few question
1. what type of pass do we actually need in osaka/kyoto?...my tokyo trip, i only use my icoca card all the way

2. if the subway in kyoto straight forward or is it like tokyo where 1 track occupies a few train going different place that need to use hyperdia to track it?
because based on what regentCID posted, seem like very straight forward..like each train has their own track

How much do I need at least to survive for 5D4N at Osaka?
Roughly my travel plan to jalan2 (local transport/rail), see2, makan2, maybe enter some places requires entry tickets for 2 days for 1 pax.
I don't plan to buy much for souvenir.
I'm thinking I may want to spend close to RM750 to exchange close to 20,000 Yen. Will this be enough?

For convenience due to elderly and kids, maybe you'll want to explore Day Tour. With transport provided and everything catered for, it'll ease your burden. Going free and easy style - especially if this is your first time there - it'll potentially be challenging trying to find your way around.

Hakone Free Pass
But if you're only planning to do a Day trip, it's a bit expensive and yet possibly manageable. Here's what I did in my first trip to Hakone.

Bought pass at Odakyu counter in Shinjuku (2 days ahead) >> Took the train from Shinjuku on day of departure >> arrive at Hakone-Yumoto station >> ride train (Hakone Tozan line) >> ride cable car to Owakudani >> visit Owakudani >> ride Cable Car >> get off the station (forgot name) and queue for Pirate Ship (cruise ride) >> ride cruise to Moto Hakone >> walk to Hakone Shrine and visit shrine >> walk back to Moto Hakone >> took bus from Moto Hakone back to Hakone-Yumoto station >> take train back to Shinjuku

For food - you can eat in Owakudani or at Moto Hakone (there's a small town with various restaurants).

If the above is your ideal Day Trip schedule and you feel it's manageable, can go ahead and try? It's a bit costly coz Hakone usually better to do at least 2 days. In fact there's no Day Pass. The Hakone Freepass is a 2-Days pass. Best if you can overnight in Hakone and go for a Hotel/ inn with onsen facility to enjoy a relaxing hot spring experience

Definitely not an issue but not that worth it because you're paying for 2 Days but only use for 1 day. Best if can maximize the pass if possible! #touristmentality

depend on wat u wan to do. my suggestion is if u travel kyoto more than 3 times daytrip, stay there better.

suica can be use in both area.

If you don't care about budget or changing accommodations, staying in Kyoto will be good. However, if you planning to spend time in Osaka, didn't want to change accommodations often and want to stay in a good place with good price, Osaka have more options. Also, doing day trips to Kyoto is not hard at all, it's only a 20 mins train ride. I did it for 4 days straight.

I'm doing a Kansai trip this November and will be staying in Kyoto for 5 nights to hit the temples/shrines before moving to Osaka for another 5 nights to do mainly side trips to Nara/Kobe/Himeji etc.
One thing to consider is that Osaka accommodation seems to be generally cheaper than Kyoto, especially during autumn.

When are you going?
Kyoto prices during autumn are quite outrageous, I only managed to find a hotel in a decent location for $196 per night (including brekkie).

If you don't mind travelling a bit or are just visiting Kyoto for a couple of days, staying in Osaka would be a better option budget wise.
