From the FAQ, looks like the new STB no longer needs VLAN 600 to run. That's good news 👍

OTOH I guess the new STB is actually a pretty powerful Android 9 TV box running PlayTV app. If it's the same app, some channels are still missing subtitles.

from the info so far i read, for existing customers....

1. u sign new contract 24 months x rm10 pm to get this new box... looks like u can use old+new, i.e. 2... max 1+3 = 4 for one account.
it is unclear if it means the additional boxes will run as STB to get 4k/hd channels or like other boxes using the app to get SD/poor hd quality...?

2. or "upgrade" to one of those new packages with 2 yr contract.
problem is there are many who are now paying rm189, 179, 169, 159... for 300, 500, 800mbps.
nobody will "upgrade" from 800 to 300mbps and pay more (RM199) just to get the new box!!

my conclusion - for existing customers who previously had free upgrades >300mbps and paying <rm199, this new box offer is meaningless.

perhaps just wait... later in the year, some other offers may come out..?

if your old STB is kaput, no more warranty...

and there are many channels in 4k/HD in unifi tv by using this new box.... then it may be worth it.

if not, u r right... u can get similar box for rm100 to do playtv app... and many other apps.

I think those subscribers who are not with Ultimate pack, they have to upgrade to Ultimate pack with 30Mbps or 100Mbps or 300Mbps at the advertised pricing.
Those with Ultimate pack, they add RM10 per month for this Android box. The white STB is still valid on VLAN 600 while the new black Android box uses the VLAN 500 internet. They can add 3 new black Android boxes for 3 different tvs.
Total 4 tvs in one Account.

Now, if outside Android boxes can watch Unifi PlayTV, why want to get this black Android box?

Just sure this introduce black box package or anything only temporary action by TM . As white box stock still availaible in inventory .
In future this black box become standard to user n no more white box .. mean no more dedicated port need to user .

Ya... I'm already not expecting much since months ago. This new STB is already beyond my expectations. Just thought new STB might have Netflix since they've signed with them and old STB has Netflix pre installed although unusable at the moment. But the way it's stated in the PDF might mean it's not ready yet but may be available.

I believe so.

If the new STB uses the same PlayTV app with the rest of us on TX3/6/whatever, then no benefit getting the new STB.

The current PlayTV app lacks subtitles on some channels. So the older STB still better IMO.

If the new unifi TV box can run AOTG and Netflix 4k, definitely is must to grab.

I Have Nvidia Shield, can i just install the Unifi TV apk inside the Nvidia Shield?

I no think so this is a good news. Since VLAN 600 is dedicated bandwidth for unifi channel & did not mix with our main bandwidth.

can the new box, on wifi, work like a normal unifi STB on lan4 using built in app, to get the best quality PQ, and not the crappy playtv apk quality?

i think it is the latter... so, unifi may also be trying to sell the new box like any other android box but at 2x the price and only 2+8gb.

can't do much with it, more so if they put all kinds of restrictions to protect themselves from warranty and accidental mistakes requiring service trips.

Hi, just wanted feedback from people here. I'm currently using unifi 500Mbps (Turbo Upgrade 2018) with Ultimate Pack package. Currently paying RM242.75 with 6% SST included. Comparing my current plan with the new 300Mbps, these are the difference between those 2:

Features - Current - New

1) Price - RM242.75 - RM210.94
2) Speed - 500Mbps - 300Mbps
3) Talktime - Unlimited - 600 minutes talk time
4) PlayTV apps - 2 devices - 5 devices
5) Box - Unifi - 4K Unifi +

Looking all this, I assume it would be more beneficial if I take the new plan. Just that have to renew 2 year contract. Do advise. TQ

P/S: Not worry about Netflix and Youtube as view it using my current SmartTV

It is running on Apps. Maybe the built in Apps is different than the Unifi PlayTv Apps.
They are not selling the box. They want us to pay for it on a monthly basis.
The Add RM10 per month with a contract of 2 years. After the 2 years, we have to continue to pay the additional RM10 per month until we terminate the service.
Not after the 2 years, we don't have to pay anymore.
They mentioned that we can install any Apps on the box.
Maybe we can install Netflix Apps and watch Netflix from the box. Don't use the built in Netflix Apps.

Go for it if you don't need the 500Mbpb speed.
If you seldom make calls, cancel the Talktime. Save another RM20 per month.

To some extent, if it's true that the new Unifi Plus Box no longer uses VLAN 600, then it's a good news.
I know VLAN can have dedicated bandwidth just for Unifi IPTV service, but at the same time, it causes lots of complicated configuration on the router and their side just to be able to use Unifi TV service.
After all, now Unifi has 100Mbps, 300Mbps.... up to 800Mbps speeds, so in my opinion, don't have that VLAN also never mind.

Talking about "mixing" your main Internet speed package, theoretically in my opinion, TM's side can put an exception on bandwidth utilisation on Unifi TV service, so that it won't slow down your main Internet bandwidth whenever you watch Unifi TV.
After all, the fibre cable that enters to your home can actually support more than 1Gbps. It only up to the ISP like TM, whether they wanna provide you that kind of speeds or not.
Let say you subscribed to 100Mbps, and now while you download/upload stuff and it fully utilises 100Mbps, you also watch a UHD channel on Unifi TV (e.g. Love Nature 4K),
Even if you combine both, it's still a lot more unutilised bandwidth remaining that the fibre cable can handle.

If Unifi TV are confident that its Unifi TV streaming service can be very stable even without VLAN (you could say, as stable as similar like Netflix), then it's fine actually...

This is kinda similar like what Astro Go is doing. OTT platform seem less complicated than IPTV platform, don't you think?

So if it's true that if Unifi TV don't uses VLAN, hmm, does it mean Unifi TV service:
-can easily access to Unifi TV service even on WiFi connection, similar like what Streamyx customer enjoy previously?
-can be accessed through other ISPs such as Maxis Fibre, TIME Fibre, and even 4G, 5G cellular, since it can work even without VLAN?
-Unifi TV is in transition to OTT platform, and slowly moving away from IPTV platform?
-sooner or later, no more having that "LAN 4 port" restriction, hence user can connect to any LAN ports on the router?
-will work just fine either on WiFi or LAN connection. So if customer worry it'll slow down the overall WiFi speed, customer can always go for LAN cable connection just like now...?

If you pay close attention enough, nowadays Astro don't advertise much on their Astro IPTV service, but more focused on "Astro & Broadband" offerings.
Hmm, IPTV is slowly becoming a dying trend/sunset technology in Malaysia, and moving towards OTT platform?

if u r right, and i think you will be... using the new box on wifi is no diff from using other box with playtv apk.

it is just a 2+8gb amlogic s905x2 box... sure u can install other apps... netflix will be 480p for sure.... what for?



i am only interested in this new box to the extent (i assume) that if i use it with lan4, it will give me the 4k/hd unifitv+bbc iplayer+others if i wish.

no interest with the low grade playtv app or other apps as this can be achieved with a much cheaper box... rm160 can get 4+64gb s905x3 android9 now.
