currently using 100mbps with stock old time router which is dir850l i think, not much issue for me. only that in my toilet the signal is weak. router is in the hall, living in a condo.

receive email upgrade to mesh huawei wa8021v5 for free on 24 months contract, maintain same price. got another one upgrade to 300mbps for extra 10/month but i dont need the speed so im not going for that.

question:
1) is this huawei wa8021v5 compatible to act as meh with dir850l router? from what i read on time selfcare, it is not listed as a compatible device?
It is not compatible to work as Mesh. Anyway it can work as repeater.
2) if not compatible, then in terms of functioning purely as a router, is this huawei wa8021v5 at least better than the dir850l? or worse performance?
On par, but it kinda buggy, frequent connection drops & auto reset issue.

if the huawei wa8021v5 performance is better than the dir850l then i think its ok to take up their 24 months contract offer, if it can improve my wifi in the toilet.
Get yourself a proper & decent mesh system such as TPLink Deco etc.

but this is low priority, so i dont need suggestion about getting a better router, etc.. Im fine with the dir850l. just want to know whether this wa8021v5 is an improvement over it or not only..

ok apart from that, what are your thoughts on huawei wa8021v5 as a router? in terms of performance compared to the dir850l?

worth being tied to contract 24 months over it? Strictly NOT Worth !

but for me no issues la, as not planning to move in 24 months. and not planning to move away from time at all as well

its just the fact want to be tied to contract only or not.

oh and still getting free 1 month off as well.

on paper the peformance could/should be better
cant mesh a proprietary huawei mesh router with a not even mesh supporting dlink
but not worth getting tied in a contract considering its not even a wifi 6 router

Hi, I just got an upgrade from 100mbps to 300mps under loyalty program which comes with a free mesh wifi Huawei WA8021V5. The installer came and install the Huawei WA8021V5 as mesh linking to my Huawei HG8145V5 router. The problem is, the mesh wifi speed is between 35-67mbps and the wifi connection to my PC is strong. Where if i just connect to the original Huawei HG8145V5 router, my speed is around 230mbps and the wifi connection strength is just medium on my pc. The installer did wifi 2.4ghz & 5ghz merge as one but still same issue. Any sifus can help where can it go wrong settings on the Huawei WA8021V5 mesh? I have tried set the mesh using WPS or just connect the mesh to the router using wifi 5ghz. But results is still same slow not more than 70mbps & high ping.

is it better to enable both 2.4g and 5ghz with same SSID or it will be better wifi(not range) performance if only enable 5ghz?

just setup time today and when inside the room, the wifi dropped 1 bar but the speed hovering around 50mb with 500mbps package

I recommend use a different SSID unless you have very reliable coverage and a robust router / mesh with great roaming

That's because some devices are really bad at deciding which band to use

To put it on layman terms, sometime 1 bar 5GHz is way faster than 3 bars of 2.4GHz especially for apartment but the device will tend to choose the 2.4GHz

I will give a try to connec 5ghz only.

If i still have 2 bars at the furthest area, i dont need the mesh right? Mesh could give me full bars but the performance wont be that great right?

If you can get 2 bars of 5GHz at further area, your WiFi speed will be faster when connected directly compared to using the mesh.

Unless you are testing it on a WiFi 6 device, the HG8145X6 is worst than the C1200

There’s no way to fix it, the router is just kinda low end

the one with "Because You Rock: Get RM20 Off x 24 Months" ?

I was told it will revert back to original 300mbps price after 24mths (ie rm20 discount canceled after 24 cycles)
*
Yea. Without any discount, I would rather upgrade to 500 mbps.

If your HG8145X6 is functioning as a ONT (aka fiber modem + router), then you need to turn the X6 into Bridge mode & get yourself a better router.
Strictly Not advisable to renew your contract if the considering factor is merely the equipment (routers/ONT/ONU)....
