Messaged TIME CS via live chat. They said the technician needs to come over to configure the DNS.

Scheduled mine for a visit next week. Will update later

did they manage to set it up and how? flash the firmware?

Hey guys, got a noob question regarding torrents. When I check my torrent client's peer listening port settings, it is always "down". Anything I can do to fix this?

Hi all, I’m currently on 100mb Time. Recently my house added a android TV box. I don’t know if it’s related but I’m having buffering here and there while streaming shows on my PC. The TV box, my parents use them. I wonder if it’s related? But I thought 100mb package would be quite enough.

It can due to the device itself (for tvBox, sometimes can be due to the source you streaming from).
If other devices working fine, it cant be the broadband speed related.

Hi, been running 300MB Time with the Huawei WA8025V5 upgrade from my previous TP-Link EC230, but ever since the upgrade I get random lag spikes from playing Apex Legends. I tried a lot of solutions like opening ports, malware scanning, changing cables, DNS flushing, restarting the router etc but it could be that the WA8025 is not up to par. Will revert back to the EC230 (have not tried that yet) to see if the problem persists.

I'm planning to change the router as a last resort; is there any decent Time compatible routers out there I can purchase?

Hi, there are plenty of TIME compatible decent routers such as Asus, TP-Link etc. or even Enterprise grade routers depending on your budget.

Please perform a speedtest via speed.time.com.my to make sure the incoming bandwidth is indeed 100Mbps. If yes, then you will need to dig into your tvbox troubleshooting, one of the way is to try DNS changer to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

Budget maybe in the realm of RM500~ I concentrate more on minimal lag performance for gaming so not really looking for enterprise grade. Any specific model I should be looking at? Mesh is optional (since I live in small room Condo)
For router settings will Time technicians set it up or me as a user can set up?

Ooo, do elaborate more.
I looked at Shopee, looks promising but what do you mean by stable/good investment?

Hi, go for TP-Link AX73 or Asus entry level AX56U. You can request the SI to set it up with a fee, standard rate card is RM80/hour for non TIME device setup.
Alternatively you can set it up yourself.

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply. AX56U seems like a good choice.
I have found the cause of the issue; the Huawei WA8025V5 was definitively not up to par in terms of network load. Maybe day-to-day activities it's an alright router. I like the compact size too.
I connected back the EC230 and the problem was resolved; I still would like to consider a new router.

Can I request for the SI on Self-care or is there a separate hotline for this?

You can request via CS hotline 1800 18 1818, or easier you setup yourself, afterall it's pretty simple, you will just need to setup pppoe credentials given by TIME.

Thanks.

It is very easy to do it yourself. You don’t really need TIME’s help for this. You just need your PPPoE username and password.

The agent offered us an upgrade few days back (with new contract of course) and she said this Huawei WA8025V5 is better than TP-Link EC230. But your report seems to contradict her claim.

The installation with new free Huawei WA8025V5 is scheduled mid of next week.

Can I cancel? How should I do that? Via app or email message? I don't want to upgrade if new router is worse than before.

Thank you in advance.

Google (primary) and Cloudflare (secondary) DNS.
Yes, the technician came over, logged on to the admin settings of the router and changed the necessary settings.

Very quick setup, less than 10 minutes. Not sure why TIME doesn’t give us access to change the DNS ourselves.

Both of these are almost on par in performance depending on your house layout. Huawei WA8021V5 has an advantage which you can mesh it up with another same unit, but don't expect too much from it.
EC230 can also be extended using TP-Link One-Mesh technology, yes get another same unit.

If you are having coverage issue on the current router, go for other more powerful models, perhaps AX series.

You can drop CS an email or simple call them up.

Thanks.

Thank you for both responses.

I guess I just proceed with the installation as the offer is quite good i.e. add RM10 to upgrade our internet speed from 100 to 300 mpbs.

I will consider the new router as a replacement or an extra to be used while I upgrade EC230 (which I think is the same TP Link AC1350) to OpenWRT's firmware (available at https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer_c60_v2?s[]=ac1350).

If any of you have the experience of upgrading EC230 to use OpenWRT's firmware, do share.

Thank you again.
