House type: Landed
Size of house: 22x75 (Double storey)
Features required: Antivirus, QoS, Bandwidth Limiter, VPN

Number of devices connected to WiFi: 20-30 on average + 1 LAN
- Around 12 of them being smart bulbs
- The rest are mostly phones, tv, laptops, printer
- Around 7 devices are connected to 5ghz and the rest are 2.4ghz

Internet Speed: 800mbps
Budget: preferably RM500 (may consider higher budget or get used)
ISP: TM Unifi

Current router: ASUS RT-AX55

Current concerns:
1. Unable to hit 500mbps even with LAN
2. Wifi usually around 200-300mbps
3. Poor coverage especially on second floor

4. Game high ping after the game server shifted from SG to HK, my ping went from 20-30ms to 110-170ms while my friend who is on TIME 200mbps plan, went from 20ms to 50ms with 6 devices connected. Another friend who is on the same Unfii plan as mine able to hit 50-70ms + better router with 10 connected devices. Both live in condo.

Apparently I am the only one with such poor ping. While it makes to have slower internet due to the amount of devices connected, it is my first time seeing such a huge disparity in ping. I am not sure if this is related to router limitation or related to the routing optimisation in my area.

Please advice! Also let me know if getting Wifi 7 router is a good idea for my usage and budget!

Thanks!

For those using Deco M9 Plus

I just replace Deco BE65 V2 as main node.

Currently using Times 600Mbps package
Only M9 hitting around 200-400, but not very stable. Need standing beside router only manage get >500

On BE65, as long as connect to Main node (within 5m) easily max out 600 ~700Mbs
If switch to M9 node, getting around 200-250Mbps (5Ghz), 100+ (2.4Ghz)
*
If you want your node points to reach close to maximum speed, just use ethernet backhaul for it. It will solve the problem.

Your current router is a great hardware, have you tried to update the firmware or do a hard reset for it???

Since you are already on Asus, i suggest get another wifi6 rated asus router and use the AI mesh function if you need to add coverage on 2nd floor.

High pings is due to the server routing, you can try to adjust DNS settings.

No for your speed, best stay at Wifi6, Wifi7 is more suited for 1Gbps and above imo.

Stay in 3 storey landed house. Been using the Maxis router and TM model since day subscribed to the Maxis Fibre. The speed seems unstable at times and coverage is limited. Currently using two routers one at ground floor and another one at the first floor. Both connected via CAT6 cable, using two different access point names. Very unconvenient because need to switch AP on and off whenever going upstsair and downstair.

I'm thinking to buy a third party router now, hopefully a single router can do everything with great coverage. ANy reocmmendations?

Since you already have the necessary backhaul Cat6, you may consider using mesh.

Not sure what speed are you on, but I assume you should be on 100mbps or above? Get a Wifi6 rated mesh/router.

For your 2nd floor, you can either use wireless backhaul or pull another Cat6 cable. That would solve your problem.

Or if I were you, I would get a good rated wifi6 router/mesh, and the remaining 2 floors just get a used wifi6 router and set is as an AP for the roaming to work.

Currently on a 1Gbps Unifi plan.

Modem : white Unifi modem. not sure of the brand. I also have the Skyworth modem/router.
Router : Asus AX4200 as main
Node : Asus AC86U upstairs

PC upstairs connected to AC86U wired

Currently, I'm able to get 700Mbps downstairs but only about 170Mbps upstairs where I have most devices. I am able to get 1Gbps using the Skyworth combo but upstairs is just bad. How do I improve the speed upstairs? I am considering Deco X20, X60, BE65 or even Asus XT8 or any suggestions.

If you are already on ASUS, better stick with Asus as their system is more robust and has free antivirus built into it. most of asus routers has AI mesh built into it. The only way is to backhaul it with ethernet cable or just get 2 new asus router with dedicated backhaul for maximum efficiency.

Hi. Just upgrade my unifi plan from 500mbps to 800mbps. Still using deco m9 plus with 3 nodes. My house is 2 storey bungalow around 5000sqft.

Need suggestion for upgrade as current mesh unable to deliver good speed. Prefer wireless backhaul between nodes. Only device connected to lan is hypptv box. Thanks.
Willing to spend around rm 3k.

Uhm according to TM Unifi's official thread, my router is unable to support my speed, especially when i have many devices connected. As for DNS, do you mean by changign the DNS of the router? I have been using various DNS on my phone, none of them really works

What???

Your AX4200 is more than enough to support 1Gbps. No such thing as not enough to support, any Wifi6 rated even at the lowest AX1500, can reach 1Gbps.

The only problem is how much devices are using concurrently from the 5Ghz Wifi at the same time. The higher the rating, the "bigger Wifi space" for it to serve.

And how many is many? 10?20? Please take into account that not all IoT devices consume high bandwidth at all time. Even if the other devices uses the same 5ghz wifi, with QoS turned on, you won't saturate the entire network at all, unless you set your device on high priority specifically.

Yes, change the DNS in the router settings page. I'm on unifi, and have been using nextdns, Onedns, adguard dns. But I dont do gaming except for mobile gaming, so I have no idea on the latency and routing for it on PC wise. but so far my pings are normal when on mobile, 8ms-20ms.

Stick with asus, is a good hardware. Many of the features are all built into the router firmware which compared to the Decos, I am using, Asus is way further more advance and more options to customise.

Heads-up for anyone with an Asus AX router and running AiCloud Malware killing ASUS routers? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/malware-k...752/post-932257 post #8 summarises the situation.

Looks like only the older, discontinued models are affected and only affect a small group of customer.

I suspect it's because these customers are running on much older firmware and didn't update their router firmware frequently.

Hopefully ASUS can come out with a solution soon.

seems like we do have one case with an ax86u in the asus thread

seems like the factory configuation data partition gets destroyed though, not good

Asus hasn't released an update for the AX routers, amazingly they've updated the RT-AC66U firmware https://www.asus.com/my/supportonly/rt-ac66u/helpdesk_bios/

Hi seniors, I'm still researching & I was watching TP Link Malaysia YouTube channel on how to link XE75/BE65 to Unifi using Dynamic IP, does this mean, I would not utilise the capable hardware of XE75/BE65 when its using Dynamic IP mode?

What do you anticipate you will gain with a static IP address? additionally most of the ISP provide a dynamic private address for ip4.

sorry, with my limited knowledge, im not anticipating static IP address, i just would want to know if using dynamic IP instead of PPOE direct from bridge mode of the D Link ONR, is the load heavy on the D Link ONR or the XE75/BE65, since one might spend alot for the equipment, if let's say the benefits of using XE75/BE65 is not fully utilized.

I am currently using MR80X but unfortunately the speed is a bit slow in my room at around 450Mbps. I'm looking forward to upgrade either to MR90X or AX73 or TPLINK BE230, may I know which one is more recommended to get better speed in my room? Try to avoid mesh as I cannot alter any wiring

Hello everyone, may I get a recommendation for a router:

House type: Landed
Size of house: 1500 square feet, 2 floors
Features required: The basics + antivirus protection would be good.
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 6-7 devices
Internet Speed: 200Mbps
Budget: RM400 (not sure if this is reasonable, let me know if it needs to be stretched)

Thanks!

Best get a router or mesh with dedicated backhaul band.

not recommended to do that, find their other video that sets it up with PPPoE
