just got my 24" today guys. what's this input lag that i keep hearing about? i've experienced some problem though, dunno whether its the infamous input lag. i'm using a mx1000 with dinovo's wireless key, but when i was halfway thru playing wc3, the mouse pointer would get stuck sometimes and lag at others. my keyboard wouldn't respond properly as well. after i switched over to a wired mouse, the problem is gone though. is this input lag? even if it isnt, could the problem be caused by my new mon? my old one was a 172x, and things operated flawlessly back then. for reference, my gc is an ancient 7800gtx. any ideas guys? help much appreciated smile.gif

btw, any calibration software to recommend?

Guys, I m planning to buy the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP- HC 24" Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor. My current graphic card is AGP Radeon 9600XT. Can it support the 24" LCD monitor? My major task on it will be normal office works, internet browsing and movies. Not so into games. Please advice.

I'm only using 7300GT. I think that shouldn't be a problem.

Added on August 4, 2007, 4:12 amOh.. I just realized that 2407wfp-hc price has gone to 1849.. less 50bucks.. tongue.gif

dattebayo, there's no input lag. Have you thought things through? First of all, he's running a comparatively ancient 9800. If he's playing at native res, his graphics card is choking. If he isn't, he's playing at non native res which the monitor needs to scale.

Additionally, you haven't taken into account the fact that it takes you longer to move from one point to the other due to larger screen estate. A lot of people blame input lag on the fact that they are not yet "conditioned" to much a much larger screen and the change of aspect ratio.

I been playing CS:S with no problems and have found no difference.

I played CS with 1024X768 resolution cause i know my ancient 9800 pro can't run at 1900X 1200 resolution. It was fine with my 19' CRT but when i upgrade to 24' , there is this small mouse lag thing. At first i thought is the resolution but i was running at an average of 45fps for my CSS.

The mouse lag will be obvious if you try moving the mouse very fast from one point to another. I dont think is the largeness of the screen that makes it feel like mouse lag cause i can feel it even if is just a small mouse drag.

Anyone elses having the same problem as me? sad.gif

well, i think its time to upgrade ur gc or mouse smile.gif
get a gc that support widescreen resolution, and change to a gaming mouse..no need that super pricey, just a mouse that supports up to 1200@1600dpi is ok smile.gif

Mmm you're one of the pros at CS if I recall correctly.

The thing is tyss, there IS input lag if you don't play at native resolution. I have a 6800gt which is also quite old, about three years now. So I tried to play at 1680 so I could preserve some of the graphics settings, but there was a definitely non responsiveness. So I tried switching to native resolution and it was gone. Basically if you're not using native res, the monitor's scaler has to kick in and work out how to approximate it's pixels to match. This will be true for ALL monitors except the high end ones with more powerful scalers. And we're not talking just a few hundred ringgit more, more like a couple of grand.

Conclusion is - play at native resolution, and get a new graphics card to sustain that.

Addendum: I assure you the screen res is a factor - you should read the article I linked. This is like if you live in a room that's a square box, and know exactly how the furniture is arranged. You can navigate that without even trying. Or maybe a road that you are familiar with. You can drive on it faster as you can anticipate the bends, having prior knowledge and muscle memory. If the room dimensions and furniture layout changes, or the if you're forced to go on a different road, your reactions will much slower. It's "muscle memory."

Before i bought E228WFP, i was planning to get 2407WFP. But i think my Nvidia 5900XT graphic card is quite outdated and could have hard time to support the high resolution 1920 x 1200, so i decided to get E228WFP because i do not wish to upgrade my graphic card. So to everyone who wish to get 24" or above, must seriously consider whether your graphic card could support the big screen first.

so it means that if u wanna upgrade to 24" u need to get your vga too... hmm.gif
herm.. already above the budget if upgrade both.
so better get the 22" to be on the safe side if your graphic card is ancient one laugh.gif

Depends on the games. If you say STALKER, Oblivion, you will suffer from lagness at 1920x1200, but its playable with 1680x1050 with all max details. Games like NFS, Test Drive Unlimited, C&C3, GRAW 1 I've tested all still playable with native resolution and max settings.

how to check for Rev no.?
and is it possible to determine the panel used?
*
It's on the sticker at the back of the monitor. Also stated on the box. First version is Rev A00, then Rev A01, Rev A02 ...

Apparently, if serial ends in "S" = Samsung, "L" = LG Philips, etc. Don't know if the info is reliable or not, saw it mentioned in another forum. Too bad Dell removed the panel info from the service menu.

If you're playing at lower res than your monitor's native res, have you tried using 1:1 pixel mapping? Maybe this helps with the input lag since the monitor is not scaling the image to full screen.

Please give your feedback if you try this.

I browsed the Dell monitor CD, and found only the color profile, and ATI and nvidia GC drivers, can't find the Dell monitor driver

now the display properties still display Generic PnP Monitor with default ICC profile loaded... how to let windows recognize the Dell monitor?

tyss, I was also planning to save up for a new system and get it all at one go, but my CRT was getting so blurry that it was giving me vision problems EVEN when I wasn't looking at the monitor. So to save my eyesight I got the new monitor. Just give it a while and you'll be back to your pro self wink.gif
