Yeah, the one that I paid to install mine told me he also would do work for Astro.
Also aligning is not hard to be honest. If you live in a place where there are a number of Astro users, you can use their dish as your guide on where to point. We did this at a friend's house since he didn't feel like paying an installer after he moved.
Oltromen RipotWell... As what I know, most of the Astro installers out there don't fully rely on Astro company to give them "jobs".
I've been told that Astro installer's wages nowadays are getting lesser and lesser (compared to 10+ years ago) which is not surprised cuz Astro is been cutting costs here and there anyway. So most of the installers would find ways to get "job" elsewhere for extra income, so they'll have to be smart in managing their own daily schedule.
And one of it, is "building own network" by advertising your technical services to people. Technicians distributing their name cards or put the technician's name & phone number sticker on top of your Astro box is one of the old school method, but these days, you can easily search for technicians online.
It depends on that installer too... If he didn't go through Astro, then normally the things they can do would be limited to tasks that doesn't directly involve to your subscription, such as install dish, cabling related... Or in other words, especially when you experience Services Currently Not Available (SCNA) issue (no satellite signal) even when the weather is clear.
This will be considered as hiring own contractor/technician, and it'll be between you and the installer. Astro won't hold responsible/liability if there's any undesirable things happen between you two, which is a good thing for Astro company cuz it's equivalent to one less problem to them.
It's just like how you would call the aircond technician to service your aircond. If the problematic technician that you hired did a bad job, then your aircond brand itself has nothing got to do with it, something like that... Get what I mean? 🤷
Of course, if it is own hired ones, don't expect they'll do "free job" for you lah. The "remain active for 12 months, or else pay RM65" option is not applicable here, cuz only Astro customer service can give you such offer
So for those who don't want either paying RM65, or account remain active for 12 consecutive months ones, then you better start learning on how to install Astro satellite dish on your own 🤣
