Base on your situation, what I can understand of the logic: Astro is control it on the backend side (Database), for sure is will no have a solution. Nothing can by pass this algorithm/logic since is from Astro side. Unless modify APK source code.

the app can transmit the make and model of your device.
all this while, you guys have been kind enough to help them build list of devices to allow or to disallow.

IIRC, they have a blacklist that they would update on the play store which allow/disallow which devices can access it from the play store. So once they update the app version, you will find that you can't update it from the play store and the app breaks.

It's a simple solution since it does not really need much configuration.

In any case, this is the app that is in question: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...iew&hl=en&gl=US

EDIT: Yep, it's blocked on all of my AndroidTV devices now lol

Ridiculous, isn't it.

They decided to support 2 TV makers but left the others, even all the certified Android TV devices. Pretty sure it's not a security issue though, maybe just laziness to maintain or update the app.

It's not about that. Multiroom technically means that it's your 2nd astro in your house. They just don't want people to install it on a portable device and then lend it to someone else.

IIRC Sky also has the same limitations in the UK as well, since I've read similar thread to us in Reddit about getting the Sky app to work in Chromecast

As double checked, Animal Planet on Astro STB only has English audio track.
Subtitle tracks available are Malay and Chinese.

Yeah, I'm aware of it. Does the app work if we install it on TV at different address, though? If it does, I don't see the point of blocking it on Chromecast. The could just make location permission a mandatory. But I guess, if sky couldn't make it work, there would be no hope for astro then.

I just hate it as I have an entry level (7 series) Samsung TV, and now I have to use astro on that. The app lag so much, changing between channels takes 5+ seconds, the channel's info needs to load everytime etc. Plus, I just like all my app to be at the same place.

Contacting them to try to get some answers is just a waste of time. They can't even differentiate Multiroom app with astro go app. And Chromecast with Google TV with the old gen Chromecast (casting/mirroring).

Hi guys
I'm currently using Ultra Box-Satellite, going to move out soon with my new apartment have no centralize dish and the area to install individual dish is quite far from where I will put my TV.
So, i'm planning to change from using the Satellite mode to Plug & Play. I did ask through chat and Twitter, as expected , i get difference answer.
The chat support mention able to change to Plug & Play but with need to re-contract (which is I don't want to) and from Astro Twitter mention Plug & Play only available for a new customer.
So, anyone has similar experience like me? is it still able to factory reset and change to Internet mode by myself?
Thanks

If they change your account type from Satellite to Plug & Play, it will trigger re-contract on their system.

Keep things simple.
Just perform Restore Factory Settings, and then select Plug & Play.
Leave your account type as Satellite. No harm one.

You can update your account service address through My Astro.

In the future, let's say you wanna watch Astro via satellite again, so you perform Restore Factory Settings and select Satellite, then you might see the "SIM Card Error" or "We apologise for the service interruption" message. That's what will happen when your Astro box isn't connected to the satellite signal for more than few weeks. The simple fix for this is, just refresh your smart card, then you can watch your channels as usual via satellite already.

for service address do you mean Billing Address or Installation Address? If i update Installation Address I need to proceed with relocation. Still indecision whether to request for relocation officially or not because; 1) afraid they will get notified I relocate and using the Plug & Play then need to re-contract. 2) Currently staying family house and they have no plan to install new Astro once I moved out then no need to update them.

Yes as of now I will do as per your advice - perform restore factory settings, changed to Plug & Play.

Thanks!

Maybe try like this:
You inform Astro that you've hired own contractor to dismantle the dish and everything already installed at your new address.
So on Astro's end, they don't need to get a technician to come over and do this and that whatsoever.
All they need to do is just update the installation address and billing address in their system to your new home address, for record purposes.
That way, I don't think it will trigger recontract whatsoever.

Yeah, the one that I paid to install mine told me he also would do work for Astro.

Also aligning is not hard to be honest. If you live in a place where there are a number of Astro users, you can use their dish as your guide on where to point. We did this at a friend's house since he didn't feel like paying an installer after he moved.

Oltromen RipotWell... As what I know, most of the Astro installers out there don't fully rely on Astro company to give them "jobs".
I've been told that Astro installer's wages nowadays are getting lesser and lesser (compared to 10+ years ago) which is not surprised cuz Astro is been cutting costs here and there anyway. So most of the installers would find ways to get "job" elsewhere for extra income, so they'll have to be smart in managing their own daily schedule.

And one of it, is "building own network" by advertising your technical services to people. Technicians distributing their name cards or put the technician's name & phone number sticker on top of your Astro box is one of the old school method, but these days, you can easily search for technicians online.
It depends on that installer too... If he didn't go through Astro, then normally the things they can do would be limited to tasks that doesn't directly involve to your subscription, such as install dish, cabling related... Or in other words, especially when you experience Services Currently Not Available (SCNA) issue (no satellite signal) even when the weather is clear.

This will be considered as hiring own contractor/technician, and it'll be between you and the installer. Astro won't hold responsible/liability if there's any undesirable things happen between you two, which is a good thing for Astro company cuz it's equivalent to one less problem to them.
It's just like how you would call the aircond technician to service your aircond. If the problematic technician that you hired did a bad job, then your aircond brand itself has nothing got to do with it, something like that... Get what I mean? 🤷

Of course, if it is own hired ones, don't expect they'll do "free job" for you lah. The "remain active for 12 months, or else pay RM65" option is not applicable here, cuz only Astro customer service can give you such offer sweat.gif

So for those who don't want either paying RM65, or account remain active for 12 consecutive months ones, then you better start learning on how to install Astro satellite dish on your own 🤣

Yes, you can just press channel number on your TV remote control keypad. It'll work just like the regular Astro box.

The moment you see it reaches the home screen (On Demand UI), you just straightaway press the numbers on your remote control, then it'll tune to that channel already.

Tip:
- Press "OK" after pressing your desired channel number to quickly tune to that channel, without waiting for 3 seconds.
- Press "back" button to erase/backspace the channel number whenever you accidentally pressed wrong channel number.
