You might want to be sitting down for this one, True Believers...Okay, you ready?

This morning Marvel Studios announced four new films slated for 2010 and 2011, including two Avengers-related movies!

With Iron Man's cinematic debut currently blasting through box offices throughout the country, fans can expect a second film to hit theaters on April 30, 2010! And a few months later in July, the mighty Thor himself will wield his enchanted hammer across the big screen courtesy of director Matthew Vaughn!

Pumped yet? You should beand you haven't heard the best part! The summer of 2011 will kick off in style with a Captain America movie, followed just two short months later with the July-debuting Avengers!

Want the very first looks at how the Marvel movie universe is already tying together? Be sure you stick to your seats until the very end of "Iron Man"yes, all the way through the credits! There's an extra special, extra exciting, extra scene guaranteed to thrill!

Plus, as first revealed at New York Comic-Con 2008, catch Robert Downey, Jr.'s cameo as Tony Stark in "The Incredible Hulk," smashing into theaters on June 13!

That noise you hear in the background is the sound of Marvelites the world over rejoicing, True Believer! So get ready, because these next few years are going to be one heck of a good time!

Zak Penn interview:
QUOTE
"Absolutely. It's not only something I've considered doing, but there's been the discussion about The Avengers doing some sort of next level Whatever the next iteration of computer animation is after this, the next step after Beowulf, is something we would definitely conisder for that."

"And I actually think it's worth considering for a lot of movies, I think it's amazing. It has a tremendous amount of potential. And I love animated movies, and I've produced animated movies, and I wrote the original story for Antz. It would definitely interest me."

QUOTE
From what it sounds like, Zak is implying that the Avengers movie could (key word) become something like an animated movie that is the next level beyond Beowulf, which was a 3D CGI movie.

But anyway, discussion-wise:

- Yes, yes, everyone who have seen it would have seen the obvious tie in Iron Man movie. For those who don't know, check it out after all the credits!
(heh, no spoilers lulz) tongue.gif

- Iron Man 2 is on April 30th 2010. Thor is on June 4th 2010. In Iron Man 2, we'll be seeing "oh hi there, Thor!" biggrin.gif

- As first revealed at New York Comic-Con 2008, catch Robert Downey, Jr.'s cameo as Tony Stark in "The Incredible Hulk," smashing into theaters on June 13. Again, Iron Man is like "oh hi there, Hulk!" biggrin.gif

- I quote from here, Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said. So here in Spidey 4, we'll be seeing Hulk saying "oh hi there, Spidey!" biggrin.gif

- Captain America, leader of The Avenger, will having his own movie in that same year as The Avenger Movie.

=================================

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

=================================

Some stuff:

- Antman is also in the running for a movie of its own.
- The Incredible Hulk 2 is said to have Hulk vs Iron Man! At the same time, the main villain is The Leader (one of Hulk's enemies).

just for ur information, nick fury have already had a movie on himself, and there's another upcoming movie with him at the centre in 2010.

the original movie in 1998 and the new 2010 movie. and owh, david hasselhoff was nick fury in the 1998 film biggrin.gif. but it sucked big time, so dont bother looking for it laugh.gif

perhaps firedauz should add nick fury's movies into the timeline?

This had became a debate of:

- Who are the actual prominent members in The Avengers?
- Who, of these prominent members, SHOULD be in that Avenger movie?
- Who should be the leader?

i think it's quite clear that they're gonna release virtually all characters in the eventual avenger movie as a solo superhero movie first. and then they're gonna use the same actor as the same actor who plays them in the avenger movie. it's gonna be a full all-star cast, i'm sure, and might be the most expensive film in terms of paying the actors of all time. well, that's what marvel intends.

iron man is the first film fully owned by marvel. it was a bold move to produce it independently from any other studios, but it was success, mainly becoz of their ability to stay true to the comics. so lets assume that they're gonna keep this up, we're gonna see similar qualities in the avenger movie.

my opinion is, if samuel l jackson is nick fury, there's a high possibility that they will follow the spirit of the ultimate avenger. so the lineup might be:

i. steve rogers/captain america as the leader
ii. bruce banner/the hulk
iii. tony stark/iron man
iv. hank pym/ant man
v. janet pym/wasp
vi. natalia romanoff/black widow
vii. thor
viii. nick fury agent of SHIELD

oh wait, where's spiderman?

well, i'm sure they're gonna squeeze him in somewhere. laugh.gif

i was hoping that x-men would be done in this format - introducing individual characters in several different films before going into an ultimate x-men movie.

but then again, x-men comics have always been a team first, individuals later, while the avengers were individuals first, team later. oh well, i still prefer individual characters though. wolverine and magneto is a good start.

well i can;t wait for this..

yes Captain America have a movie out before long time ago..offcourse it sucks coz the tech at that time cannot compare with nowdays..it's an early 80s movie if i'm not mistaken..it was shown in HBO or cinemax... even Flash (JLA - 1st time seein this movie during vhs rental time back when i was still in primary school), Fantastic Four also have an old movie before from the 80s or early 90's

can;t compare it la with all y2k above movie production..

leader for the Avengers is Captain America who was frozen in time...

Speaking of justice league..the cartoon movie out already..can't wait if they made the real movie...there was one sitcom in HBO before but the justice league costume sucks..it's a late 90's movie..u can download all these marvel or DC comic chrather movie from torrents..i mean those old movie version..anyone remember Flash Gordon?? Shown on TV 3-4 times..

Added on June 15, 2008, 4:03 pmspeakin'of JLA..heard Wonder Women movie should came out this year..the actress was from Bollywood

Sorry to say that Spider-Man, X-men or FF won't be making it to the Avengers movie anytime soon. Those properties are all still tied to Sony and Fox for the foreseeable future and they will keep making those movies with more shitty storylines. I can't wait till the rights revert back to Marvel.

Marvel Studios and Paramount Extend Distribution Agreement

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios today announced an agreement under which Paramount will distribute Marvel's next five self-produced feature films on a worldwide basis. The deal, an extension of the original agreement made by Brad Grey when he arrived as CEO and Chairman of Paramount Pictures, includes theatrical distribution in foreign territories previously serviced by Marvel through local distribution entities (Japan, Germany, France, Spain and Australia/New Zealand). The distribution pact capitalizes on Marvel and Paramount's successful efforts with Iron Man, which has grossed $574 million worldwide for Marvel.

The highly anticipated live action releases include Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010), Thor (July 16, 2010), The First Avenger: Captain America (May 6, 2011), and The Avengers (July 15, 2011). The distribution agreement also includes Iron Man 3.

"Coming off of 'Iron Man's' incredible success this summer, we could not be more excited about extending our relationship with Marvel," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures. "Marvel's iconic brand, its popular characters and its proven ability to create compelling and visually spellbinding films complement Paramount's great history of filmmaking. We look forward to a long and successful run together."

"Paramount is an excellent partner and an outstanding global distributor," said David Maisel, Chairman of Marvel Studios. "Through our experience on 'Iron Man,' Paramount has demonstrated a passion and ability to release Marvel properties theatrically, allowing us to focus on making great movies for the largest audience possible."

Marvel's Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau, was distributed by Paramount earlier this year and was one of the top films of 2008. The DVD, including a version in Blu-ray, will be released on September 30, 2008.

Paramount just got a sweeet deal up until 2011 biggrin.gif

Ghost Rider is not part of the Avenger. His relation with them is through The Champions and new Fantastic Four. He is not part of the SHRA in Civl War (compiled list of criminals), doesnt mean he's one of the Avenger fugitives.

Daredevil, Elektra and Blade (Midnight Sons with 2GRs, other than that....nope) are also not part of Avengers.

Wolverine at one point joined the group, but left. Forgot which comic???? He's against the SHRA in Civil War so..... doh.gif

Hulk to be a villain?

user posted image

IRON MAN screenwriter Mark Fergus spoke to MTV about his belief that the Hulk should be the villain in the upcoming AVENGERS movie that is being built towards:

"I hope ‘The Avengers’ embraces that... You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it’s based on love and friendship and that’s always the worst thing to have turn bad — is someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in.”

Louis Leterrier added:

“I left the door open for whoever’s going to direct ‘The Avengers’ with our last shot. Edward [Norton] and I, we consciously decided to make the last shot of the movie when he opens his eyes and he smirks at the camera... Is he enjoying it? Is he malicious? That’s what’s great about Edward. You don’t know if he’s a good guy or bad guy. He’s always on this edge and we’ve been sort of surfing that edge, that very thin edge during the entire movie.”

This, in my opinion, is an excellent choice. But what do you guys think?

Extra Tidbit: Leterrier sees the scene with Stark and General Ross in the bar as the first scene of THE AVENGERS.

The Beast May Be Unleashed As The Villain In The Avengers

user posted image

Can the big green be mean? Well, we know the Hulk can be easily misunderstood, but can he be evil enough to end up as the villain in the highly anticipated movie, The Avengers? According to MTV’s Splash Page, some seasoned players in the Marvel Film Universe are pushing for the film’s ultimate superhero team to battle a fellow hero, rather than a pure villain.

Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby told MTV News they would be all for making the Hulk the bad guy. When you have a team of powerhouse superheroes like Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor and Captain America, you can’t just have any old villain for them to take down. Fergus agrees. “You don’t want like 10 super-badass good guys fighting together. Where’s the fun in that? Let’s break it off a little. Friends or colleagues who become enemies is always an interesting thing because you know it’s based on love and friendship and that’s always the worst thing to have turn bad — is someone you actually care about and someone you actually believe in.” I couldn’t agree more. Without such an interesting plot twist, most comic book movies would be much too similar: the good guy takes down the bad guy. Pretty cut and dry. But with so many Hulkamaniacs out there and there already being sufficient background information on the character with the recent release of The Incredible Hulk, any audience member would be likely to feel the pain of a friend turned foe.

The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier, even left this opportunity open for whoever becomes the director of The Avengers. Leterrier wanted the audience to see the Hulk open his eyes and smile, leaving them wondering whether or not he is actually vicious. Leterrier didn’t stop there. He dubbed the scene during which General Ross and Tony Stark meet the first scene of The Avengers.

I’m not as well schooled in the comic book world as many of you out there, but this idea does seem to have potential. By convoluting the story with such as twist, plot development could be unlimited. So, the Hulk is a green light for me, but, then again, I am open to hearing more suggestions. And, considering the fact that The Avengers isn’t due until 2011, I’m sure there will be.

In the cartoon, Hulk was potrayed as the villain, and it works well.
With the same formula turned into live action, and with proven success of Iron Man and Incredible Hulk movie, I think the idea will continue to be awesome biggrin.gif

And according to one of Calvin's thread, Dr Strange *might* make an appearance as well, since a mystical being like Thor can be in the Avenger movie.

Robert Downey Jr. On ‘Avengers’ Movie: ‘If We Don’t Get It Right, It’s Really Going To Suck’

This week, MTV News named Robert Downey Jr. as the actor we’re most thankful for this year, and we here at Splash Page couldn’t agree more. After all, not only has Downey taken the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man and made it his own, there doesn’t seem to be an actor more excited about not only his place in comics-based films, but the future of the genre as well.

The internet damn-near gave the actor a standing ovation when news broke last month about Downey not only signing on for “Iron Man 2,” but also officially joining the cast of the absurdly-anticipated “Avengers” movie. So naturally, we had to get Downey’s take on the upcoming film that’s destined to be the Holy Grail for Geekdom, and you can rest assured knowing that the actor is well-aware of how important the film will be to not only Marvel, but the comics community as a whole.

“If we don’t get it right it’s really, really going to suck,” said Downey. “It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters.”

However, in taking on the role of a key member of the Avengers to such digital fanfare, Downey has in a sense become the face of the operation — at least until other Marvel films such as “Captain America” and “Thor” get made (and, likewise, until Marvel figures out how to handle the Hulk). To a lesser actor, this seems like an insurmountable amount of pressure, but Downey remains level-headed, and like any good soldier, knows he’s got a job to do, knows he’s already got a solid team at his side, and looks forward to seeing how the other films will play into the “Avengers.”

“I think its important that I do what I’m supposed to do which is keep my side of the street clean,” said Downey. “The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is [director] Jon [Favreau] was very certain that ‘Iron Man’ should be set in a very realistic world. Nothing that happened in ‘Iron Man’ is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants it warrants much further discussion.”

Never one to shy away from speaking his mind, Downey had plenty more to say not only just in terms of comic films, but his upcoming slate as well. Read more of Robert Downey Jr.’s thoughts on his past, present and future projects (and why we’re so thankful for him) at MTV.com.

Do you agree with Downey’s thoughts on the challenges facing an “Avengers” movie? Are you excited to see him playing the role of Tony Stark for the foreseeable future? We wanna hear from you in the comments!

Louis Leterrier Officially In The Running To Assemble THE AVENGERS!

I just finished an interview with CLASH OF THE TITANS director Louis Leterrier, and, wouldn't you know it, the topic of him directing THE AVENGERS came up! Now, Leterrier has lobbied in the past for the gig, but I'm pretty sure today is the first time he's revealed that he is on Marvel Studios' official shortlist to helm the big superhero soiree geeks have been clamoring for since Nick Fury's surprise cameo at the end of IRON MAN.

Here's what he had to say:

"I am on the shortlist, but I'm at the bottom of the shortlist, I'm sure. (Laughs) I don't know who the other guys are, but I have a great relationship with [Marvel], and I've been very vocal to them and everyone else that I am the one to direct it. I loved my time at Marvel. I loved those guys. They're fantastic. Kevin is such a passionate boss; he gets his hands dirty. It's a universe I want to keep exploring. I was frustrated with [THE INCREDIBLE HULK]. It was like, "That's it? Only one superhero? Can I do more???" We'll see. Time will tell."

As for "the other guys" in the running, feel free to speculate. Jon Favreau took himself out of the running last October. Of the directors who've been directly involved in Marvel's run-up to THE AVENGERS, this leaves Leterrier, Kenneth Branagh (THOR) and Joe Johnston (THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA). I suppose you could include Edgar Wright (ANT-MAN) and Zak Penn (who's writing THE AVENGERS) as well. Any favorites out of that group? I have one, but I very selfishly don't want to lose him to franchise filmmaking. Also, he has a very specific style that might clash with Marvel's insistence on a somewhat cohesive sensibility.

Finally, there's the very real possibility that Marvel's shortlist includes a director or two who has yet to work with the studio.

In the meantime, Leterrier's CLASH OF THE TITANS will Bubo your brains out on April 2nd.

Whedon to head 'Avengers'

user posted image

Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Incredible Hulk will soon start taking orders from Joss Whedon.

Marvel Studios is wrapping up a deal for Whedon to helm "The Avengers," which assembles the superheroes in one pic on May 4, 2012, that Paramount will distrib. Whedon will also rework Zak Penn's script.

Whedon, a favorite among fanboys, most recently penned the script for "Cabin in the Woods," a horror pic that he is also producing for MGM. Pic co-stars Chris Hemsworth, who plays the hammer-wielding Thor.

The creator of series like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Firefly" and more recently "Dollhouse," all for Fox, has been close to helming a superhero pic before, namely "Wonder Woman" for Joel Silver at Warner Bros., but Whedon wound up ankling the project due to creative issues.

He directed episodes of those series, and recently helmed an episode of Fox's "Glee." "Serenity" is his sole film directing credit. The sci-fi western, distribbed by Universal in 2005, was based on the short-lived "Firefly."

"The Avengers" extends Whedon's long relationship with Marvel. He wrote for the comicbook company's "Astonishing X-Men" series.

"The Avengers" would star Robert Downey Jr. (as Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Hemsworth (Thor) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). Edward Norton may also return as the Hulk.

"Iron Man 2" bows May 7, followed by "Thor" on May 6, 2011, and "The First Avenger: Captain America" on July 22, 2011. Paramount will distrib.

Downey Jr. Does His Avengers Homework

It looks like Robert Downey Jr. gave one comic book store clerk a day to remember. The "Iron Man" franchise actor was spotted buying both "Iron Man" and "Avengers" comics in Hollywood on Wednesday (June 2nd). It appears he's doing his homework for when he brings his Tony Stark/Iron Man to the set of Marvel Studios' The Avengers, which he'll film after shooting Sherlock Holmes 2.

EXCLUSIVE: Edward Norton is not the Hulk in 'The Avengers'... but he'd like to be

That’s the word from Hitfix, who cites “Marvel sources” as saying that the company have decided to part ways with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk, and will instead be hiring an unknown to play the role for Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”. Of course, like a lot of Marvel films nowadays, it’s all just conjecture and unnamed sources until the studio comes out and says it, and let’s face, there has been plenty — and I do mean plenty — of rushed “exclusive scoops” when it comes to Marvel movie casting, and this could very well be one of them.

Again, until Marvel makes it official via one of the trades, it’s just another Internet rumor, and should be treated as such.

What we do know is this: Robert Downey Jr. will definitely be playing Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth will definitely be playing Thor, Chris Evans is definitely Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson is definitely Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson is the Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner is most definitely Hawkeye.

The Hulk? Well, that’s up in the air. And in case you’re keeping count, if this turns out to be true, the Hulk will have gone through three actors since it resurfaced as a movie franchise in 2003. That is one confused superhero.

CONFIRMED: The Avengers Will be Assembling a New Hulk/Bruce Banner

Marvel Studios has confirmed  that Edward Norton won’t be reprising his role as The Hulk in “The Avengers”. This from Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige himself:

"We have made the decision to not bring Ed Norton back to portray the title role of Bruce Banner in the Avengers. Our decision is definitely not one based on monetary factors, but instead rooted in the need for an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members. The Avengers demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble, as evidenced by Robert, Chris H, Chris E, Sam, Scarlett, and all of our talented casts. We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements, and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks."

Edward Norton’s agent Brian Swardstrom has responded  to Marvel’s decision to re-cast The Hulk in Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers”:

"This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light. Here are the facts: two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention. When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project. Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast. Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith. This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.

We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige’s mean spirited, accusatory comments. Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his. Feige’s statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory. Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel’s fans.

Following Marvel Studios' president confirming Edward Norton not being involved in the upcoming "Avengers" movie and the actor's agent responding in a heavy statement, the man of the moment has released a high road statement on his FaceBook page involving the dispute.

As most of you know, I don't like to talk much about the business of making movies because it means a lot to me to protect the audience's fullest enjoyment of the 'magic' that films can have. But I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support from fans of the Hulk and the Avengers that I feel it would be rude not to respond. So here goes: It seems it won't work out for me to continue playing Bruce Banner for Marvel in "The Avengers." I sincerely hoped it could happen and be great for everyone but it hasn't turned out as we all hoped. I know this is disappointing to many people and that makes me sad. But I am very sincerely grateful to Marvel for extending the offer and even more so for giving me the chance to be a part of the Hulk's long and excellent history. And I really can't thank the fans enough for how much enthusiasm you've sent me way about what Louis and I tried to do in our turn with the legend. It means a lot to me. I grew up with Banner and Hulk and have been a fan of every incarnation. I'm really proud, and very blessed, to have been one of them and will be thrilled to see him live on through other actors. Hulk is bigger than all of us, that's why we love him, right?

Sincerely,
Edward Norton

user posted image

We're guessing that Marvel Studios was hoping to announce this at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 24th, but Deadline is reporting that the studio is in "late-stage discussions" with Mark Ruffalo to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, scheduled to hit theaters on May 4, 2012.

He would be replacing Edward Norton, who played Hulk in director Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and Norton both confirmed this week that he would not be returning for The Avengers.

Mark's a good actor, but I don't think this is a good choice for him.

Hulk Rumors to be Joaquin Phoenix

user posted image

If rumors are going to be true, then, Joaquin Phoenix might not be making a bad decision if he’d jump on the role that Ed Norton was reportedly fired from as Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk.

As opposed to his rapping career this might guarantee more positive audience reaction to the younger brother of the late 80’s child actor, River Phoenix.

It was in 2009 when Joaquin, formerly credited as Leaf Phoenix in his early works, announced he would be leaving the movies to pursue a rapping career.  After a very laughable admission and painstakingly humiliating publicity concerning his hip hop aspirations conflicting reports surfaced on whether this was a put-on or not. But if the supposed-to-be-documentary of Joaquin, 35, as he leaves his acting career and goes on to pursue the hip hop scene is an indication he might as well leave this desire of his and accept the fact that he can only settle on his talents as an actor, music video director and producer.

my guess money decision ruled Edward Norton out. they were only willing to pay star price to robert downing JR (which he tthorughly deserved because of his success rate currently.

Edward Norton is an oscar material actor but marvel aint willing to bulk to his fee.
(i like him as an actor too)

but with so much riding for this "the AVENGERS" to succeed (ie make money), norton is sacrificed

Joss Whedon confirms he will direct "Avengers"

user posted image

SAN DIEGO (Hollywood Reporter) - Joss Whedon confirmed at Comic-Con on Thursday that he is, indeed, directing "The Avengers."

"It's not an official thing, I think because Marvel couldn't afford a press release," the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator said during a panel with fellow fanboy favorite J.J. Abrams. "So can we make that an official thing? I'm directing 'The Avengers.'"

The project is based on a Marvel comic all-star series that brought together Captain America, the Hulk and Iron Man, among others.

"I am still writing an outline. I'm still in that stage," Whedon said. "I will say the thing I love about it, the thing that made me excited to do it, is how counterintuitive it is. These people shouldn't be in the same room -- and that is the very definition of family."

Mark Ruffalo is THIS CLOSE to Being the New Hulk in The Avengers

It won’t be officially official until Marvel makes an announcement, possibly at Comic Con later today. According to The Wrap, though, the deal is almost done, and the goal is to finish everything up so Ruffalo can fly over to San Diego to join his fellow Avengers in Geektown. The sticking point, as with most Marvel movies, is the studio wanting a major commitment and multiple films from the actor, while not paying a whole lot for it.

If the deal gets done and Ruffalo shows up, it’ll be a grand entrance, no doubt. At least, for those in attendance who aren’t still holding their breath for Edward Norton
to reprise his role as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk’s mild mannered alter ego. Things could get a tad frisky there when the announcement is made, I’d imagine.

It’s official, kids: The Avengers have assembled over at Comic Con at the big Marvel Studios panel, and here is the official cast:

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as SHIELD head honcho Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/The Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye …

… and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.

And Joss Whedon will, of course, direct.

So who is missing? Well, no Ant-Man, for one. But that’s about it. Check out the photo of the cast and director Joss Whedon on stage.

Edgar Wright Says His Ant-Man Script Is An Origin Story, Wouldn't Fit With The Avengers

At the end of the Marvel panel at this year's Comic Con, Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige had managed to get Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Clark Gregg all on stage to represent the cast of The Avengers, the huge ensemble movie that will finally unite all of Marvel's solo outings. But while that list contains all of the major players in the film, one hero conspicuously absent was Ant-Man, one of the original members of the series when it began in 1963. The lack of Ant-Man had been announced by director Joss Whedon a few hours before the panel, but it still left people scratching their heads. Why not include a hero that is such a key component to the team? Apparently Edgar Wright's script has a lot to do with that.

I had the chance to sit down as part of a round-table interview with Wright today during a junket for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World where he was happy to talk about the project, which won't be due out until after The Avengers hits theaters in the summer of 2012. According to the director, a major part of the script, which has been completed for some time now, is the characters origin story, something they didn't want to skip by simply planting him in the Whedon supergroup film.

I talked to Kevin Feige about that a while back where we just discussed about whether he would be in The Avengers. The thing is, the script that I’ve written, you know, whether it’s next or not I don’t know, the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do. And my film is very much an introduction to that character, and so it wasn’t something where it felt right to introduce him in that film. Maybe if I do the solo Ant-Man film and maybe there’s a later Avengers then they could draft him in later. But it didn’t work with the kind of the angle that we were going to do with the origin that I’d written.

As implied in the quote, Wright isn't sure yet what his next project is, be it Ant-Man, the completion of the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy (with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), or something else entirely. The Avengers will already have enough on its to-do list by trying to get those without comic book expertise to learn about the whole mythos and back story so this very well might be the best move. Don't give up Nathan Fillion. Your time may still may come.

EXCLUSIVE: Eva Longoria to join "Avengers" franchise as The Wasp, source says

user posted image

Eva Longoria-Parker is thisclose to starring in the second Avengers film as The Wasp, a source close to the project tells FOX411.com exclusively.

With filming just around the corner, Marvel is eager to tie up their final characters, and they have invited Eva back on several occasions as they have worked to fill the role, the insider said.

"Marvel is in negotiations with Eva and she is just right for the role," said the source. "First, she read for the part, then she went into the studio for camera tests. The team liked her for The Wasp so much that she did green screen work in the late spring. She's perfect in size and attitude. Eva is cute, sexy and full of energy for the part. The character is a bit like Gabby, her character on 'Desperate Housewives'."

But Eva's not the only ABC star whose name is being tossed around for the film.

"Nathan Fillion, a favorite of ["Avengers" director] Joss Whedon is set to play Ant-Man," our insider said. "Ant-Man is married to The Wasp in the comics. They would be a dynamic duo - both are hilarious and together they will have great comedy and chemistry. It's a win-win if Eva can tie up the role."

A rep from Marvel told FOX411.com that our information about Longoria's and Fillion's roles and casting was incorrect.

However our source said Eva would likely fill out her Wasp costume in New York, where we have learned much of the film will be shot in the coming months.

"The movie is going to start filming this fall. There's a lot going on, and scheduling all these busy actors is a task, but so far it seems like everyone's schedule is coming together," the insider said. "Right now, 'Captain America: The First Avenger', starring Chris Evans, is shooting in England and it will pretty much be back to back films."

This news comes on the heels of Comic Con's roll-out of the other big-name Avengers stars who are coming together for the first installment. They include Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk).

Know what I think of Eva Longoria as the Wasp?

Two things.

1. Yes, she would be the prefect Wasp. For both Avengers 2 and maybe in that solo Ant-Man movie.

2. BUT. And this is a BIG BUT. She might be doing the Halle Berry (in X-Men) and demands "a significant presence of her character comparable to the comic-book version." --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men:_The_Last_Stand#The_X-Men
If she does that, Marvel might do the Ed Norton and cut her off laugh.gif

Joss Whedon Talks Avengers, Puts the Kibosh on the Wasp

Joss Whedon hasn’t said much about his upcoming “The Avengers”, but he’s begun to open up, which is good news for the Interwebs and its legions of fanboys. Specifically, Whedon tells The Sunday Herald-Sun (via Moviehole) that the Black Widow (aka Scarlett Johansson) will indeed be the only female Avenger on the roster in his movie, though that doesn’t mean there can’t be other females in the cast. Well, that goes without saying, right? They just won’t be suiting up to fight supervillains, that’s all.

Basically: forget all those rumors of The Wasp (Eva Longoria or no) showing up. And if the Wasp isn’t showing up, does that mean no Giant-Man, either?

Whedon goes on to say a little bit about the storyline he has planned for the big-budget Marvel super team:

"It will be a new story that has many things from different arcs of the comics in it. There is no one Avengers story that you can just do the way that you can do the origin of Spider-Man. You really have to cull from the original and The Ultimates, which is one of The Avengers titles."

I’m still thinking The Hulk as the villain in the first movie, leading to the Skrulls showing up in the sequel. Some storylines I’ve heard had the Skrulls manipulating the Hulk on his rampage, and once their manipulation is discovered, leading to an all-out war between the Skrulls and Avengers in the sequel
. That could be fun. Expensive as hell, but really, really fun.

“The Avengers”, starring Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L.Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo, assembles in the Summer of 2012.

Jeremy Renner Talks Avengers, No Purple Costume

user posted image

In an interview with the boys at MTV while out promoting his crime film  “The Town”, Jeremy Renner talked about his upcoming appearance in Joss whedon’s “The Avengers” as Hawkeye. Specifically, his relationship with Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and Clint Barton’s choice of wardrobe in the 2012 feature.

On the character’s classic purple-themed costume:

QUOTE
I think it’s going to be a little more reality-based. You can kind of tell with Scarlett [Johansson]‘s character [in 'Iron Man 2'], it’s going to be more of a uniform . . . and not a big purple, comics  sort of thing. That’s why I think it’s more palatable to audiences — there’s almost a sense of reality to these superheroes. That’s what makes it interesting to me, anyway.

On Hawkeye’s relationship with Johansson’s Black Widow:

QUOTE
We will [have a relationship], I think, in this one as well. We’re kind of a team, and what that relationship is, is still to be discovered.

It definitely sounds like Renner’s Hawkeye will be patterned more after the Ultimates version and not the classic comic book look. Of course, given what happened with the Black Widow in the Ultimates universe, Hawkeye may want to watch his back around his fellow SHIELD partner. Just sayin’.

Mark Ruffalo to Actually Play The Hulk

We all know that Mark Ruffalo landed the part of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Marvel Studios' upcoming The Avengers. What we didn't know is that he'll actually do the motion capture for the Green Goliath!

He told Vulture: "I'm really excited. No one's ever played the Hulk exactly, they've always done CGI... They're going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I'll actually play the Hulk. That'll be fun."

Ruffalo added that he's going more for Bill Bixby's Banner: "I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one... I'm gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He's always on the run and trying to find love. It's really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and f*cks everything up."

Joss Whedon talks balancing action and character development for The Avengers

user posted image

Like many of you, I'm a bit worried about THE AVENGERS with Whedon at the helm. Not because I don't believe in the man, but it's just that expectations are so high, and the project is so ambitious, there are so many ways it could be a let down in the end.

Hopefully the man's genius will shine through, and give us a superhero epic for the ages, but he's got a lot of challenges on his plate to work through first. Whedon recently chatted with SFX UK (via AICN) about what it's like working with Marvel so far, and how he's going to balance the blockbuster action that has to be a part of the film, with the character driven stories we know and love the man for. And also he answers the question many of us were wondering a while back: Mark Ruffalo?

"There are definitely stipulations and restrictions, but Kevin Feige is very active as a producer and worked with me a lot on the story, but they are absolutely honouring the fact that this is my film. What I kind of think ultimately defines Marvel Studios was the first thing they did and that was cast Robert Downey Jr. They said, 'What if we got greatactors and let them have some time to be the people they're supposed to be instead of going through the paces of hitting this mark and that mark?' They don't always
get it right, but nobody does. But if
you look at who they already had, and who they allowed me to add to the cast, they are thinking about the integrity of the characters. Obviously we have to get from point A to point B, and fans really want to see this – and ideas for set-pieces which I said are great. Now I'm going to make them matter and they are completely on board with the idea."

"What I will struggle with, in the outline and throughout, is that I would like to put these actors in a room and just make Glengarry Glen Ross," he laughs. "We're talking about really exciting people and at the same time I have to keep the momentum of the thing going. I can't let it turn into a lull fest. Knowing that I have enough time to do both of those things – that by the end of the movie you will feel 'in' with these guys – is the trick. It's not an easy one but one that Marvel absolutely honours. They don't hire Mark Ruffalo [the new Hulk] to say one iconic line and strike a pose. They hire him because he has so much humanity in him. He's the antithesis of the iconic actor. He's so human. He was my first choice to play the part, and the fact he is playing the part is nuts! They went to great lengths to make that happen and they understood exactly why he was right for the part."

Considering the cast involved, I would LOVE to see them all in a room, chatting it up with Whedon scripted dialog. It's like some sort of fanboy wet dream. I'm sure we'll get a bit of that, but yes, gotta get those action scenes in there too.

I do have faith, and the man has yet to let me down. Despite the fact that I think an Avengers film won't work, I really do hope it does.

Extra Tidbit: Which Whedon favorite actor do you think he'll sneak in for a cameo or small role? Nathan Fillion? Felicia Day? Alyson Hannigan? He's gotta get one in there.
as a DC fan, i wish my rival Marvel all the best and hope they can pull this movie off mega_shok.gif

Concept Art For The Avengers’ SHIELD Heli-Carrier

user posted image

Will SHIELD’s famous heli-carriers make an appearance in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”? It would appear so, at least according to these early concept artwork (via I09).

The designs look more “submarine”-ish than the SHIELD heli-carriers I’ve seen in the comics. As far as I know, the heli-carriers spent most of their time in the air, while these designs would seem to indicate they’re going to be spending just as much time on the water.

In any case, we’ll find out for sure when “The Avengers” opens in May 4, 2012.

Disney Gets The Avengers and Iron Man 3, Paramount Keeps Thor and Captain America

user posted image

Looks like Marvel Studios is slowly but surely severing all ties with Paramount when it comes to their future properties. Marvel and Disney have struck a deal that should place all of their future characters under the Disney flag.

Press release:

QUOTE
BURBANK, Calif. – October 18, 2010 – The Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios announced they have reached an agreement under which Paramount will transfer its worldwide marketing and distribution rights to Disney for Marvel Studios’ The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Paramount will remain the worldwide distributor of the upcoming films, Thor and Captain America, as well as the previously released Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Under terms of the new deal, Disney will pay Paramount $115 million for the transfer of the distribution rights to Iron Man 3 and The Avengers to be paid on the theatrical release dates. These monies will serve as a minimum guarantee against the distribution fees.

“In completing this agreement, Disney will now assume worldwide marketing and distribution of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and leverage these two highly-anticipated films across the multiple global platforms of The Walt Disney Company,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We appreciate the tremendous momentum that Paramount established with these iconic Marvel characters and look forward to propelling the brand even further in the coming years.”

“Five years ago, when Paramount and Marvel made our initial deal, both our businesses were in very different places,” said Brad Grey, Chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures. “We are grateful for the partnership we have had with the terrific Marvel team over these years and proud of the work we have done together. Today, this new agreement is the right deal for Paramount, for Marvel and for Disney. We look forward to working together on Thor and Captain America, and we wish Disney and Marvel the utmost success, in what we know will be a very productive and wide-ranging partnership.”

“Paramount has been a wonderful partner in helping Marvel Studios bring our characters to the big screen,” said Alan Fine, Office of the President, Marvel Worldwide, Inc. “This agreement makes sense now that Marvel is part of The Walt Disney Company.”

Paramount will release Marvel Entertainment’s Thor and Captain America worldwide beginning on May 6 and July 22 of 2011, respectively. The Avengers will be licensed to Epix under Paramount’s existing pay television arrangement.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk Will be More Robert Downey Jr., Less Ed Norton

user posted image

That is to say, you can expect a lot more humor and charm to Mark Ruffalo and Joss Whedon’s version of The Hulk aka Bruce Banner than, say, the miserable, running-for-his-life Bruce Banner that showed up in Edward Norton’s portrayal of the character in “Hulk”, or the somber, father issues suffering of Eric Bana in Ang Lee’s version.

Ruffalo tells Digital Spy:

QUOTE
We want him to be an everyman, not so dour. A little more charming or accessibl. We’re still sort of working it out with the script. I’m not exactly sure what it’ll end up being but we’ve talked quite a bit about the Bill Bixby version of the Hulk.

I have a feeling there’ll be a little nudge, nudge, wink, wink. I think [Robert Downey Jr.] sort of reinvented that genre in a way and I talked to him quite a bit before I took the part, how it works and how to do it. He said, ‘C’mon we’ll have fun, we’ll work it out.’ I trust him a lot so I think we’ll have a good time playing with it.

This is certainy in line with Joss Whedon’s style, who is writing the script and will be directing for Marvel Studios. Whedon can get pretty dark at times when the need calls for it, but I’d say anywhere from 80-90% of his scripts are usually about the characters being charming or having fun. When you’re doing a movie about a group of superheroes fighting (from some rumors, possibly aliens from outer space), going “dark” is sort of silly.

“The Avengers” invade in 2012.

Apparently $160 Million is Not Enough to Make Joss Whedon’s The Avengers

user posted image

$160 million or thereabouts, anyway.

Rumors are running rampant that Marvel Studios, as they are wont to do, is trying to curb cost on Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers” even before the film starts shooting by limiting the budget to around $160 million (according to I09). That, says some insiders, isn’t nearly enough to make the movie, and as a result, there have been “delays” in the pre-production of the first-ever big-budget comic book superhero team movie.

QUOTE
Some people say it can’t be done. Others say it can be done – even if then, in certain well heeled Los Angeles bars, they assure each other that it can’t. And while some people have walked off the project, others are planning a longer game. Basically do the work, then when they run out of budget (which they believe they will) trust that Marvel Studios and their investors will pony up the extra necessary cash rather than leave the movie unfinished.

Only in Hollywood would $160 million not be “enough” to make a movie. Meanwhile, you give the South Koreans or Japanese $160 million, and they would probably hand you back 4 “Avengers”-sized movies. Or hell, Whedon could probably give you 10 “Firefly” movies with that much money.

Personally, I think this is all very silly. My guess is, Marvel just wants Whedon to know that he’s not working with an unlimited budget, but when push comes to shove, they will of course sign over more bucks to finish the movie. “The Avengers” is a sure-fire mega hit that will launch not just a franchise, but franchises. You don’t turn your back on that just to save, what, $50 extra million? Hell, this movie might make that on first-week DVD sales alone.

So I wouldn’t worry, kids. The Avengers will assemble as expected in 2012.

The Skrull and Kree Dropping by The Avengers Movie?

user posted image

That’s the word from the Albuquerque Journal newspaper (via AICN), who writes in the same article announcing that Marvel Studios will be shooting a hefty portion of “The Avengers” in New Mexico, the following:

QUOTE
“‘The Avengers” script will blend ‘Iron Man’, ‘Thor’, and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ story lines as the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree.”

It’s always been long rumored that the Skrulls (pictured, below left) would be involved in some capacity, perhaps even as the brains behind a “loose” Hulk that forces SHIELD to assemble the heroes to contain. And of course, it makes sense that the Kree (pictured, below right) would show up if those pesky Skrulls, their nemesis, were around.

This actually lines up pretty well with previous rumors about the movie. If you were going to assemble a superhero team like Thor, Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man, you’d need a pretty damn big threat to do it. An alien invasion by the Skrulls (or, ahem, a “secret invasion”) would do it.

I thought the Skrull and the Kree ideas were debunked...? drool.gif - but yeah, a big enough threat would be the logical reason for assembling the team.

No Punching Disney Princess in The Avengers, But Definitely Another Female Hero

user posted image

By now you’ve probably heard all the official denials that manufactured Disney princess Demi Lovato will not be in “The Avengers” as rumored, which apparently made a lot of nerds really happy. I don’t know, I think she would have made a fine addition; she’s not a really bad actress, per se. Or at least, it would have been funny watching her punch people in the movie, being that she got in trouble for that in real life. You know, as an inside joke kinda thing?

ANYWAYS. According to THR, though, the powers that be are actively looking at adding a second female character to the line-up to offset all the testosterone that will be provided by Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Thor, with only little ol Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) breaking up the boy’s club.

QUOTE
Sources say Marvel is looking for another actress to, um, (un)beef up the lineup, although in typical Marvel secretive fashion, the role is not being revealed. (Anyone want to take bets it’s the Wasp?)
It would make sense for the extra female character to be Wasp, or another female superhero. Adding an additional female character who is just someone’s girlfriend or background support or a SHIELD agent would be pointless, since I assume there would be plenty of that already. To really add something to the line-up, you’d need an actual superhero. So yes, the Wasp makes sense, not only because she’s an active member of the group and has been for a long time in its history, but also because the Wasp has been rumored since day one, and where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.

Or just a really, really smoky chimney.

Then again, if not Wasp, how about … Spider-Woman? There’s your new spin-off franchise in the making right there…

Filming Completely Shut Down Due to Reported Leaking of Samuel L Jackson's Script

"I have one hard copy that I am looking to sell and I will not be making any copies, therefore exclusivity is guaranteed," the script's owner told the UK movie site.

"Considering that the release of The Avengers is over a year away this script should generate a substantial amount of traffic for the website that acquires it."

The source then provided two pictures of script pages to prove its authenticity. The document, dated March 8, carries the title 'Group Hug' and is watermarked with Jackson's name.

Who Else Besides Loki Will Menace The Avengers? Find Out!

user posted image

If you’re a daily reader of this site, or heck, any movie site, then you probably already know that Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” won’t be fighting The Hulk in their first big screen outing (as they did in the comics), but instead will be facing the menace of Loki, Thor’s evil adopted brother.

This has been officially confirmed when Marvel released their “Avengers” press release at the start of production last month, with Tom Hiddleston prominently mentioned as returning, and there was that “Thor” easter egg scene to drive the point home in case you didn’t believe it. Yes, Loki will continue to menace Thor and the Avengers.

And of course, there were those rumors that the alien race known as the Skrulls would be invading Earth in “The Avengers”. Forget about it, it’s not a rumor — it’s pretty much true. At least, I haven’t heard/read anyone refuting this bit yet. From everything I’ve read, the Skrulls will indeed be attempting an invasion of the planet, as they are keen to do in the Marvel Universe. No word, though, on whether they’ll be making use of their shape-shifting abilities, but that seems likely given that it’s one of their biggest weapons.

But wait! There is actually a THIRD villain!

Latino Review, who have been pretty damn solid with their “Avengers” sources thus far, has another major news about yet another “Avengers” villain. I have to admit, you sort of saw this one coming given all the clues from “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger”.

The other villain that the Avengers will have to contend with, besides the Skrulls invasion and Loki manipulating everything in the background?

How about THANOS.

Oh come on, when you saw the Infinity Gauntlet sitting in Odin’s chamber, you sort of knew, right? Plus, the Cosmic Cube will play a huge role in the Red Skull’s schemes in “Captain America”. When cosmic weapons are involved, Thanos of Titan is usually smack dab in the middle of it.

More about Thanos from Wikipedia for the uninitiated:

QUOTE
Debuting in the Bronze Age of comic books, the character has featured in over three decades of Marvel continuity and a self-titled series. The character’s name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology. One of his more prominent storylines to date—the Infinity Gauntlet series—portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel’s multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe’s actual (and more powerful) embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love. Thanos has consistently recurred as a powerful villain, and has been featured across nearly Marvel’s entire product line, including animated television series; arcade and video games; toys and trading cards.

If you’ve never read the “Infinity Gauntlet” storyline by Jim Starlin, you’re missing out on some insanely good cosmic storytelling. Unfortunately, they couldn’t leave well enough alone, and it was followed by a bunch of lame sequels, but hey, that’s comic books for ya.

LR wouldn’t say how Thanos figures into “The Avengers”, just that he does. But given that the movie is already stuffed with villains (the Skrulls invasion itself should take up a huge chunk of the storyline), Thanos may not have all that big of a role … THIS time around. Who knows in a sequel?

Hey, beggars can’t be choosers, right? So, in that spirit, here’s your first look at an official teaser poster for Joss Whedon’s upcoming “The Avengers”, snapped by ESQ. (h/t CBM). The poster was on display at the Licensing International Expo, so it’s basically a very early, photoshopped-together poster to sell the movie’s merchandising licenses to various buyers who attends the shindig.

You shouldn’t expect the real thing to look too much like this, but it does give you an idea of what The Hulk, Hawkeye, The Black Widow, Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor will look like. In particular, it seems The Black Widow and Hawkeye really will have a pretty big role in this thing, and won’t just be supporting characters.

Whedon’s “The Avengers” assemble for real May 4, 2012.

Spiderman is not part of the 1st Avengers

In Comics, the first members of Avengers are Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp Man and Ant Man. Capt joined them later after he was revived by them
So basically what the movie is going is basically correct just minus Ant Man and Wasp Man, the rest of the cast are the originals

Wow, Hulk finally shown at 1:55...

This movie could be 50-50, might be mighty good or just plain bad. Putting 4 heroes each having their own movie(s) except Hulk is risky. It is a risky concept anyways... but just plain good to see such a thing happen.

"Genius, Billionaire, Philantrophist".

RDJ really wins for this.

Mark Ruffalo sounds so tame and timid, the post earlier doesn't do justice to show his anger. (Although, The Incredible Hulk was all about him trying to control his BPM)

Evans sounds and looks like true leader, but a HOODIE???

Hemsworth looks cocky, fitting for his style since he is also a god anyways.

Hiddleston looks more angry than Banner. laugh.gif I wonder why though, since Loki has always been so cool and calm.

I will be shocked if it's below par.
considering Joss Whedon wrote AND directed it..i'd say it's in good hands, since he has actually worked both behind the camera and done script work before-not to mention this:

QUOTE
Whedon wrote Astonishing X-Men in Marvel Comics' popular line of comics about the X-Men but finished his 24 issue run in 2008 and handed over the writing reins to Warren Ellis. The title, recreated specifically for Whedon, has been one of Marvel's best-selling comics as of 2006 and was nominated for several Eisner Awards including Best Serialized Story, Best Continuing Series, Best New Series and Best Writer, winning the Best Continuing Series award in 2006.

will reserve judgement till movie is out.

initial judgement, i still am not such a fan of this rendition of capt a, just on his characterizations. doesnt seem like much of an inspiring leader. his dig at iron man just reinforces my view, if i break it down and think up hypothetical causes.

as for the look of the tralier, its sort of have a noire'-ish filter to it. its not pure noire but it feels filtered a bit to deliver a look of its own. actually to think of it again, it feels 'filmic'. shooting on film looks different than using digital cameras, but somehow the 'filmic' quality seems slightly off. not sure if they shot digital and post processed to look filmic, or shot on film and post processed slightly but comes out slightly strange. that or it could just be my monitor, who knows.

yeah, capt a suit kinda hoodey like in that i think its the part of his head suit. so he can pull it back on and off.

scarlett johanssen is hot no doubt, not sure if her standalone movie wouldve been box office. it might, maybe this movie might jumpstart her solo black widow movie.

robert downey junior is already a legend. he's a classic. he's just pure brilliant actor, he's always expected to deliver brilliantly. its if he screws up that will be unexpected.

mark ruffalo aka the hulk. wouldve liked some continuity from earlier movies but what can you do. will give verdict when movies out.

nick fury, hawkeye, also will reserve further judgement will movie comes out.

thor is same, spot on. good initial casting.

who im interested to see is loki. how his character progressed from movie thor to this, the shift to wrecking havoc on earth. what are his motives?

btw, the start of tralier, the aura made it feel reminiscent of transformers 3 trailer... mightve been unintentional but certainly not good.

somehow i feel that mark ruffalo is more suitable as banner than eric bana or edward norton. bana's too well built and do not have that geekish look that often portrayed in the comics. edward norton is just way too different - he's way too athletic and agile.

Nah. Its likely the fact that Thor feels threatened because he's a God being led by a mere mortal. I think Thor wanted to challenge Steve for the leadership title.

Guess who won then. tongue.gif

(also, the Captain America Blu Ray will have a bit of the making of the Avengers in it. Releasing next week, it might be good to buy for the cause. Much like the same reason I paid RM 14 for a trailer of the Avengers rather than Captain America. laugh.gif)

They are going to follow the 'Ultimates' storyline abit as that's how the 'Ultimates' comic version was brought together(minus Giantman aka Antman and Wasp). Like Thor's Avenger outfit is also like Ultimate Thor's costume and Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury is also another Ultimates' version

The preview after Captain America was underwhelming and now this trailer looks completely and utterly devoid of any life. Basically, it looks like a promo for a WWE wrestling match. I'll watch this - only out of curiosity.

Cobie Smulders Talks Maria Hill in The Avengers, Gets Powers?

user posted image

Cobie Smulders is one of the stars of CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother”, one of those shows that I always end up watching if I run across it while channel surfing, but have never actually sought out. It’s funny enough, just not, well, my cup of tea.

Anyways, Smulders will be making a major splash in the movies when Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” assemble next year. She’ll be playing Maria Hill, Nick Fury’s right-hand man (er, woman) in the super spy agency SHIELD, the unit that has assembled Earth’s Mightiest Heroes together to battle the menace of Loki and some super secret villain types. Maria Hill in the comics is a tough-as-nails SHIELD agent, but she doesn’t have powers. According to Smulders, though, that might have changed for the movie.

Talking to NYMag, Smulders said this about her character in “The Avengers”, starting with her costume…

QUOTE
They’re very sleek, and very leather. And she has superpowers and is hyperintelligent; a very nice, fine woman who has all the answers.
Hunh. Interesting. I wonder if she’s just throwing it out there without thinking and confusing intelligence with powers, or if changes have been made to her character? Is Maria Hill’s “hyperintelligence” her superpower? Or is she using the term “superpowers” in the general sense? After all, The Black Widow doesn’t actually have any “powers”, and neither does Tony Stark aka Iron Man, or Hawkeye…

Anyways, just an interesting minor tidbit for you “Avengers” fans out there, since we haven’t gotten anything juicy from the film in what seems like ages now.

Great New Footage in The Avengers German Trailer

user posted image

If you’re tired of waiting for Marvel to release something new from Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”, then wait no longer — check out this new German trailer for the film, which shows a heck of a lot of new, groovy footage from the upcoming superhero team-up. I especially like all the action beats with Captain America myself, though the extra glimpses of Loki being his bad self and throwing the Avengers around ws pretty cool, too. By the way, hearing Captain America with a German accent is so, so disturbing, you have no idea.

QUOTE
When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

The combined might of Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Stellan Skarsgard assembles May 4, 2012.

Joss Whedon Promises The Avengers 3D Won’t Suck

user posted image

Hate 3D? Then yesterday’s news that “The Avengers” will be post-converted to 3D probably didn’t make your day. But wait! According to “Avengers” director Joss Whedon, he assures fanboys and fangirls and all fans in-between that the 3Dness of “The Avengers” will NOT suck.

The cult hero of Browncoats everywhere tells Joblo:

QUOTE
Whedon knew from the very beginning his film would eventually be converted to 3D saying he thought about the format “every second” while filming. Whedon is sensitive to the concerns of audiences admitting “there definitely are movies that shouldn’t be in 3D” while assuring fanboys “THE AVENGERS isn’t obnoxiously 3D.”

“There’s no, ‘Oh look, we’re going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it’s in 3D!’ And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it’s an action movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway.”
That’s a shame. I love 3D tunnels.

Whedon continues:

QUOTE
Yeah, it’s fun!…I’m not a big fan of extreme long lens, talky movies – I like to see the space I’m in and relate to it, so 3D kinda fits my aesthetic anyway. And the technology has advanced so far in the past couple years.

Damage control? The studio pushing Whedon out there to quell the fears of fandom? You decide.

A Look at the Avengers’ Quinjet and What About Those Mysterious Non-Loki Villains? (SPOILERS)

By now I think everyone and their grandma (even the ones who thinks computers are the Devil’s tools) know that Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) will be bringing his brand of villainy from the “Thor” universe to Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers”. But ol Loki, as mischievous as he can be, can’t possibly be the only threat to bring together the world’s greatest superheroes, can he?

hulk looks like from 2nd i think. the facial resembles 2nd closer. plus in terms of size, the 1st hulk supposedly got very very huge at the canyon deserts scene and is humongous. the 2nd hulk (norton) while he got big to an extent, it didnt go overboard huge.

the trailer looks epic. the cinematography is stunning during fight sequences. the only shot i thought was campy was the whole group in a circle facing outside the circle coz i thought cap a suit looked campy.

scarlett looks hot in the few scenes shes shown, wonder if she'll do bad ass stunts like in iron man 2

When Hulk came out in 2003 everyone was saying how bad the Hulk CGI was. The new Hulk looks like it has the same CGI.

I always thought Ang Lee's Hulk and its CGi were both brilliant.

that screencapture is good. i guess the new hulk really does resemble mark ruffalo. at the same time, it also reminded me of bill bixby?, is that his name, the original hulk from the tv series long ago?

continuity wise, its easier to say its from the norton version just coz iron man made a cameo. plus i think the movie is the better version overall.

There's been quite a debate about whether or not Skrulls will appear on the big screen in May 4th's Marvel's The Avengers and, while there's still no confirmation either way, MTV Geek managed to get their hands on some toy photos that should fuel the debate fire.

While the below figurine from the tie-in "Mighty Battle Skill & Strategy Game" certainly appears to be a Skrull, it's not uncommon for tie-in merchandise to sometimes borrow characters from the comics, even when they're not in the film. (Deathstroke, for example, was released as an action figure in the Dark Knight line).

Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel's The Avengers is the superhero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as SHIELD, finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson.

Wait till the end of credit scene in The Amazing Spiderman movie this May, we might get an 'extra scene' like we did in Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and Incredible Hulk.

I got question here. Why is Captain America is called the 1st Avenger?

If it is regarding on the timeline when the WW2 happened, I thought Thor was born and lives hundred years ago, should he be the 1st Avenger?

If so, the correct title for previous Captain America movie should be C.A: The Leader of Avengers, not The 1st Avenger.

Technically, according to movie timeline, Tony should be the first Avenger (personally invited to discuss on the Avenger initiative).

But I'm guessing Cap came first in the comic books rather than Thor? Its a bit weak since I'm unsure how to call it, but that's how I felt it went.

just a guess, cap a is 1st avenger coz he avenged buckys death in cap a movie.
although tony first invited to avenger initiative, we assume he's first coz his movie came out first. i dont recall the time lapse between cap a was found in antarctic and when he woke up and met nick fury. it could well be that nick fury came up with the idea of avengers initiative right after cap a was found.
the trailers suggest that nick fury met cap a in the boxing gym and said he wanted cap a to help save the world, and not just help him adjust to the new world, so the possibility is there that cap a would still be the first avenger. and nick fury couldve met tony before or after cap a woke up. either way, cant wait for the movie... this one wajib on 3d

It seems they're using the same helmet as The First Avenger but attached to a hoodie... Maybe they thought since it worked in the first movie, they won't kacau too much.. But clearly, it doesn't work as a hoodie.. It's aight.. The movie will still be awesome.. Whedon for the win!

The casting of Robert downing jr as iron man was spot on. Amongst all hollywood actors, he has that 'tonniee stark' persona.

Much like how Hugh jackman made wolverine(movies) his own, and as christian bale, the dark knight recently.

Movies is about "star power", the pull of such actors alone could help generated a portion of movie sales (like to admit or not)

Though I'm sure Tony stark will share equal screen time with the others, else it would not be called "avengers" but instead the iron man 3.0 + others laugh.gif

Probably the Midgard Serpent.Just my 2 posen.Dont hold me to it.

I hope this movie do justice to IronMan.In comic books you can clearly see how he act like a douchebag but in reality hes really self sacrificing.
In previous IronMan movies the elements are there but its too subtle.(most ppl that dont read the comics wont notice)
Im hoping to see a Hulk+IronMan moments where Hulk saw right through Stark like in the comics.

I can almost see it.

bad-ass... awesome soundtrack in trailer... movie looks epic.
pros- explosions and machines 'whirrings'/firing sounds like taken from michael bays school of transformers.. just hope dont follow bays storytelling style...

minor quips - nick fury didnt seem charismatic enough, especially when he said the avengers initiative part
- mark ruffalo pronunciation seems messy.. doesnt talk like an intelligent scientist (up for debate)
- cap a suit is still campy.. aiseh.... the rest all seems to work real fine almost believable as real world setting.

seriously though, the explosions, the machine sounds, the large machine snake all reminds me too much of transformers 3...

you dont actually expect a trailer to a movie, with a bunch of super heroes in it, to show the talky bits, do you?

im still very excited for this movie. havent seen a Joss Whedon movie since Serenity-and that was easily one of the best movies of that year.

So far Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern had their movie already. The Flash had his live action TV series long time ago whilst Aquaman and Hawkman appeared as a cameo in Smallville. Only Dragon yet to appear in live action version .

Question is, DC still have issues on their version of superheroes which they need to select to be in JL live action movie. Such as:-

-Will they used Brandon Routh or Henry Cavil for Superman?
-Will Christopher Nolan's too-realistic-Batman is suit to be appeared in JL?
-There is still some issues with Wonder Woman's custume though. It looked funny if you saw a woman wearing a starrish panties flying around.
-I dun see Flash, Aquaman and Hawkman will become an issue but it just that their costume need some 'upgrade'.

Well, back to Avengers 's discussion.

*
All your questions can actually be answered based on how a decision was made when the casting came in. Who would've thought Mark Ruffalo would be Bruce Banner? Eric Bana and Ed Norton never even had a chance.

Batman's suit? Heck it could be the Adam West version is needed.

Wonder Woman's costume? That is one debatable issue that we may never ever solve. laugh.gif

Seriously, I know it's off topic, but it's not impossible. It's the decisions made that will be the make or break. Also, I think DC (or in actuality WARNER) would want something once Avengers is out.

How is Black Widow a much more 'main character' than Captain America? He should be in 2nd place instead of 4th. Though we still have yet to know who is gonna be the leader in the movie version as the comics, he's always been the leader next to Ironman

Joss Whedon has confirmed that the movie will pretty much be seen through Cap's eyes.

I hope the movie has something interesting to offer now that all the trailers has pretty much revealed what's going to happen. Captain America should always be upfront in the line up as he's the only one that looks like a leader and is one.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Hawkeye is the weakest among all? The heroes with the weakest 'power effect'. Especially when the enemy is some 'big creature' as seen at the end of the trailer.

At least Black Widow has high agility, concentration, reflexes and all.

Likely you'd feel as such because you've never seen Hawkeye in action.

Or also, you've never held a bow and arrow. Could be both.

u underestimated him very much. As Green Lantern to Justice League..its quite the same for Hawkeye to Avengers..
he got >9000 accuracy lvl, and there's no telling what kind of arrow he had (could be like green lantern kryptone, flaming, explosive arrow etc)
and if i have to face-off between Black Widow @ hawkeye...i feared hawkeye bow more than glock 18 biggrin.gif

Tom Hiddleston on Avengers:

QUOTE
“['The Avengers'] is the first of its kind, because it’s a film about not just one superhero, but seven or eight, all of whom are beloved already… I’ve seen it now, I’ve only seen it once, it was very rough cut, but it’s absolutely thrilling. I mean, it grips you from the edge of your seat from the get-go and it does, it takes itself extremely seriously one moment and then doesn’t take itself seriously at all in the next moment, and so it has a huge sense of humor, but also a real heart and action. It’s more fun than should be allowed.”

Finished watching Angel season 1 to 5... I have faith in Joss Whedon to pull off the diff characters in Avengers as how he did in this

And also, there are scenes in the series where Angel is referred as The Dark Avenger and his team are dubbed Angel's Avengers.. There is also mentioning of Steve Rogers and Captain America.. Who would've thought he'd direct this movie one day rclxms.gif

Whedon's very actively involved in Marvel's comics.
he's penned a few stories for the X-Men in the past.(among other superheroes)

so it's not really that big of a surprise;more like a love letter to fans having someone who's actually familiar with Marvel direct the movie.

My expectations are sky high for this movie.I am afraid i will be disappointed when i walk out of the hall.I had a similar experience with tf3 dark of the moon.

I hope thor gets enough screen time. thumbup.gif

Joss whedon revealed that the runtime for this movie is 135minutes which will be the longest marvel movie.

You will.

That's why everyone is better off saying "hey this movie is going to be fun". That's it.

- For those who were worried about Joss Whedon helming this movie... You have been proven complete and total idiots.

- For those concerned that the large cast of characters would prove too much for one movie... NOT a problem.

- For those who think that underpowered Black Widow and Hawkeye would be underused and have smaller roles... Not so.

- For those worried that all the trailers, clips and commercials have shown all the good parts already... They didn't even scratch the surface.

- For those who don't believe THE AVENGERS will be THE comic book movie of the year... TDKR and Amazing Spider-Man will have to be surprisingly special to take the title.

That's from Comic Book Movie . com. Saying that it's not a review, but I think that's good enough (due to embargo. tongue.gif)

QUOTE
As most of you know, I had the pleasure of watching this film last night in an advanced screening. Not only do I think it is a fantastic movie, but I am very much looking forward to seeing it again and again opening weekend. I rarely pay to see a film more than once in theaters but I doubt can resist seeing this one every weekend for the next month or two. It's.. simply.. that.. good.

Were there disappointments? A few small ones, definitely. But that only has to do with personal preference and NOT because of the actual storytelling. There is triple the action from the first film, better dialog, sharper effects and a solid story any moviegoer with common sense and a bit of good taste will thoroughly enjoy.

To put it simply, if you liked the first film, you'll love this one. It's not only a fanboy or girl's wet dream but easily one of the best and most well thought out comic book movies we're ever been given.
That was the review for the insanely awesome......

Checking at GSC 1U for next week, available in 2D and 3D. A no brainer for me - - 2D. nod.gif I think even if the 3D was fine, I would choose 2D. Digital 2D beats 3D anytime. The clarity, the colour, the sharpness, the whole thing feels like a HD version of 'normal' cinema. 3D is grim/darker, glassy (I always feel the frame of the glasses restricts my view of the film) and your eyes keeps searching for money's worth of 3D pop-out.

Congrats... "The Avengers" does not suck. 24/25 reviews on RT are fresh, for a 96% approval. A remarkable feat to have four major superheroes in one film for an epic 2 hour 22 min of mayhem. It could have been totally the other way around. I was totally skeptical this film would work and get high praise from critics. Well done. nod.gif

Could there be post credit scene:

QUOTE
Will ‘The Avengers’ assemble again for a last-minute scene?
By Matt McDaniel

"Marvel's The Avengers" is hitting screens everywhere in three weeks.  This past Wednesday, the film had its big Hollywood premiere, and after the screening Twitter was ablaze with positive comments from those who saw it.  (Full disclosure: I was there and it is indeed awesome.)  But is the movie really finished, or are the Avengers assembling one last time?

On Thursday the cast came together for a press conference in Beverly Hills, and Robert Downey Jr. let it slip that the superhero group might not be done saving the world.  At the end of the event, Movieline reports Downey stated, "Not to keep you guessing, but we're actually not done shooting. We are shooting one more scene... tonight. Not kidding."  He followed it with a curt "No more questions!" and the panel ended.

Many of the gathered journalists assumed that Downey was joking.  Earlier in the press conference, after giving a heartfelt response about working with his costars, Downey said, "That will be my last sincere answer of the afternoon."  But his claim was later backed up by Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner and his towering green alter ego The Hulk (via computer animation) in the film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ruffalo said, "Yeah, yeah -- we're shooting a scene tonight... We don't even really know what it is yet, but we're shooting a scene tonight."  He said that a costume was delivered to his hotel room, but he didn't have any other details of what it is they would be doing.

While the studio has declined to officially comment on the matter, the creative team behind the movie was quick to deny the actors' statements.  /Film asked Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige about Downey's claim, and he responded, "Do you always trust everything Robert Downey Jr. tells you?"  The film's director, Joss Whedon, also rebuked Ruffalo's statement that he had his movie costume: "Mark Ruffalo's costume is made of CGI. Those guys are clowns."

It would certainly be odd to shoot an additional scene for a film just weeks before it was scheduled to open, not to mention after it had already premiered.  But it's not out of the realm of possibility.  One challenge of filming "The Avengers" is bringing the big cast of established stars together, but since they are all in Los Angeles this week for the premiere and press junket, that wouldn't be a factor.  Plus, digital filmmaking does make quick changes to movies possible.  Last year's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" shot an alternate ending just four weeks before it hit theaters.

If a new scene is being filmed, it stands to reason that it would be a brief scene after the credits like the one in the original "Iron Man" that introduced Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.  While it doesn't seem likely we'll get official confirmation from Marvel that the extra scene was in fact filmed, it's not a bad idea to stick around through the credits just to be safe.

Most of the time RT is just an indication as to whether a movie sucks or not... tongue.gif There are a few "rare" occasions I don't really agree with RT and that's when Metacritic comes to play. After all, RT does not differentiate a "good score" and a "great score" - - both are considered fresh.

At the end of the day, it is up to us to decide whether a movie is good or bad... but always look at RT/Meta as an indicator. I doubt a very badly rated movie will see the light of day as being an awesome film *cough* Transformers 2/3 *cough*.

Forget GSC Maxx. I've tried both and there's no way its sound system and 3D can match IMAX. Once you've tried IMAX you won't want to watch anywhere else. That is if you can afford it. Not even GSC 's gold or premiere class can match IMAX's viewing experience.

Gosh, thinking back... it all started out with just an idea of having an Avengers film and years later here it is in reality.

Those early folks lucky to see the film please give your feedback here. I also want to know if 3D is worth it or not, as I am very much towards digital 2D.
