your mobo has sata2 ports, so it should be fine (check also in bios settings if it support ahci)
*

that mobo got RAID, it should support AHCI.

If No support AHCI + Sata2 = better off go HDD. laugh.gif HDD already hit 210MB/s, compared to 300MB/s Sata 2 max bandwidth. You are not losing much.

Tho the seek time on SSD is what makes the huge different.

yeah it should be ok, as long as intel sata port is used.

for old systems that use sata2, ssd's iops improves system performance by a relatively good margin

Thanks for telling.Normal usage for VM since some old software driver like ocr only works on older window version.
Which linux guest ver you are using ? btw , to into swap will increase r/w on ssd ?

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. I didn't allocate any swap space currently to my VM. You should worry much about excessive usage on swap unless you barely have enough ram.

if swap is used, it will add r/w on ssd. however, if you're using it for normal usage, don't worry about endurance of ssd. it's like nothing.

for some work ssds, my use case is to build test vms (average 20 to 40gb each; usually 2 vms at least), and delete them after tests are done. it's been few years now, the ssds are still fine.

for normal usage, it's almost impossible for you to consume tbw that high.

Just putting this out here, anyone using old FM2 AMD boards with a SATA SSD on Win 10 ?
What SATA AHCI drivers are you using ? Default microsoft ones that came with Win 10 (dated 2006) or manually updated to AMD sata ?
Getting half the SSD speeds, lol on this AMD platform (office PC by the way).

Any recommendation for a cheap budget ssd? Budget around RM100. Want to upgrade my girlfriend's 2006 mac pro.

I have a spare 250GB 2.5 Samsung 850 as I've upgraded to a nvme ssd in my mac pro but no way I'm giving that haha

Have 2 models in mind. Kingston A400 or the Lite-on MU3. Both 120GB, both under RM100

EDIT: Mac pro as in the tower mac pro. It'll run on sata 2

My 850 used to get 250MB/s writes and 260MB/s read on sata2. Basically maxing out the sata 2 bus

on that mac pro sata 2? btw, latest HDD can hit 180-210MB/s already.

u better double check got AHCI support or not. Without it, it will affect performance, although I am not sure how much it will affect.

i doubt consumer hdd cannot run at those speeds persistently. secondly, ssd has another advantage over hdd, which is much higher iops. high iops helps to boost responsiveness in general.

guys, sorry if this has been asked before but are there any differences in speed (loading time in game) to get a nvme m.2 vs sata ssd. specifically for gaming.
